  • Julie Chen Tours New “Big Brother” House

Julie Chen seems to be as excited as the rest of us that Big Brother is getting ready to premiere next week.

As the show’s host, Julie Chen gets the early dish on what the guests will be doing and, more importantly, where they’ll be staying.

Julie Chen got to tour this season’s house recently and took along Entertainment Tonight‘s Kevin Frazier.

The Big Brother house looks amazing and even Julie Chen seemed impressed!

The house has a very beachy feel to it and includes fun touches like a wave wall that stretches 22 feet into the air and a 155 foot skybridge lounge with a plexiglass floor.

Starting off the week right with @Mel_Rivers at #TheTalk table!

Julie Chen said of this particular feature, “This sky bridge lounge has a very Vegas-y feel to it, except what happens in the Big Brother house doesn’t stay in the Big Brother house.”

    Not even close.

To make sure nothing stays a secret, the house is also fully equipped with 122 two-way mirrors, 80 cameras, and 100 microphones.

I just couldn’t live like that! Well, maybe I could. Temporarily. For $500,000.

Julie Chen pointed out the second purpose for all of those two-way mirrors, saying, “We’re always on our toes as to when is it appropriate for us to jump in or jump out.”

Of course, Julie Chen will continue on in her role as a co-host of The Talk.

When Julie Chen was asked about what would happen if The Talk and Big Brother were to combine, she had some surprising ideas.

Julie Chen said, “I definitely would want an alliance with Sara Gilbert.”

Good choice! Sara definitely doesn’t seem to be the type that would go down quickly without a fight.

She added, “Who would I want out first? You can’t vote out one of your besties. I’d just leave it up to Sara.”

I don’t know if that plan would work out for Julie Chen or not! But, it sounds pretty entertaining for the rest of us!

  • Julie Chen Explores Her Polygamist Grandfather’s Past On Ancestry Show

Julie Chen announced in September of last year on The Talk during “Secrets Week” that her grandfather was a polygamist.

As the audience gasped, Julie Chen continued explaining that her grandfather had nine wives who bore him 11 children that they know of. But, he had many mistresses so that number could be much bigger.

“As you can imagine this was very hard on my grandmother,” continued Chen.

She also revealed that her grandfather’s wives lived in separate residences and that her mother never knew which wife’s home her father would be spending the night at.

it doesn't get much funnier than @LisaKudrow It was a joy working with her on #wdytya!

However, Julie Chen got to explore her roots a little further for the celebrity ancestry show, Who Do You Think You Are?.

The story Julie Chen knew about her grandfather was a gritty one, but the side she got to know on her visit to the small village he lived in changed her perspective quite a bit.

“I didn’t think of him beyond the rich successful guy who had lots of women,” Julie Chen said as she reviewed her experience for the show. “But this journey allowed me to see him as a patriot.”

Julie Chen’s grandfather started a school in the small village he lived in after his mother was captured by bandits for ransom. When his family couldn’t pay the ransom, his mother was murdered.

Julie Chen’s grandfather wanted the children of his village to know that with an education, there is a way to a better life than those bandits chose.

Julie Chen later got to meet some of the children from the school.

She said, “That was amazing, to see these little faces, the future of this town where my grandfather hails from and that they’re getting an education and they all knew who he was and they said it with pride. It really filled my heart.”

After exploring more about her grandfather’s past, Julie Chen found herself touched as she read the words of her grandfather’s obituary.

“That surprised me, because I never knew him,” Julie Chen admitted. “It wasn’t a revelation that I was going to read about his death, and it just struck me. Seeing his picture, that I saw in family photo albums growing up, in the newspaper article and talking about who he’s survived by, it just caught me off guard.”

What a cool concept for a reality show. So interesting!

Who Do You Think You Are? premieres March 8th on TLC.

  • Sara Gilbert and Wife Linda Perry Welcome Son

Sara Gilbert of The Talk and her wife Linda Perry are the proud parents of a new baby boy. The couple welcomed Rhodes Emilio Gilbert Perry into the world on Saturday.

“Our very own Sara and her wife Linda are the proud parents of a new baby boy and both mother and child are doing well,” The Talk co-host Julie Chen said Monday on the show.

Sara Gilbert and Linda Perry started dating back in 2011 and tied the knot in 2014. Perry is a music producer and the former lead singer of 4 Non Blondes. She has been instrumental in producing hit songs for Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera, and Adam Lambert.

Gilbert was best known for her role in the TV sitcom Roseanne, until she became one of the co-hosts of The Talk.

This is the third child for Sara Gilbert, who has a son named Levi, who is 10, and a daughter named Sawyer, who is seven, from a previous relationship.

Sara Gilbert announced on The Talk that she was pregnant, following a request for her to participate in a segment during which she was to ‘face her fears.’ Expected to lie down on a bed of nails, Gilbert had to spill the beans and announce her pregnancy–maybe a bit sooner than she planned to do so.

“I really do believe in facing your fears and doing things that make you uncomfortable, but I actually can’t do the dare because I’m pregnant,” Gilbert said.

How exciting for Sara Gilbert and Linda Perry that they now have their own son to raise. Sara’s kids must be excited to have a new baby brother, too.

  • Sara Gilbert: ‘The Talk’ Host is Pregnant

Sara Gilbert of The Talk is pregnant. She and wife Linda Perry are expecting their first baby together. This will be the third child for Gilbert, who has two from her previous relationship with Alison Adler. Sara Gilbert and Linda Perry tied the knot this past March.

According to a report from the New York Daily News, it was during a segment on The View that Sara Gilbert shared her exciting news with her colleagues. Refusing to participate in a rather frightening dare–having a bed of nails placed on her stomach–Gilbert spilled the beans.

“I really do believe in facing your fears and doing things that make you uncomfortable, but I actually can’t do the dare because I’m pregnant,” Gilbert said.

Sharon Osbourne, Aisha Tyler, Julie Chen and Sheryl Underwood were all stunned by the news. They could barely contain their excitement as they surrounded the mom-to-be with hugs and words of congratulations.

Cohost Julie Chen tweeted the good news.

Following the show, Sara Gilbert tweeted her thanks for the warm wishes.

Sister Melissa Gilbert tweeted about having kept Sara’s secret, but not needing to keep it any longer.

In addition to her role on The Talk, Sara Gilbert played Roseanne Barr’s on-screen daughter, Darlene Conner, on Roseanne from 1988 to 1997. She is also known for her recurring role as Leslie Winkle on The Big Bang Theory. Linda Perry is a songwriter and former front woman for the band 4 Non Blondes.

Congratulations to both Sara Gilbert and Linda Perry on their now-highly-anticipated baby-to-be. It will be fun keeping up with the The Talk host throughout the coming months of her pregnancy.

  • Sara Gilbert And Linda Perry Say “I Do”

Sara Gilbert And Linda Perry Say “I Do”

We will have to wait until next Monday to get all the juicy details surrounding Sara Gilbert’s wedding to former 4 Non Blondes singer and music producer Linda Perry. However, Gilbert’s The Talk co-hosts couldn’t hold back a few remarks. Julie Chen said on Monday’s show, “Let’s get started with a big congratulations for our own Sara Gilbert, who got married last night. It was magical. It was the most beautiful ceremony.”

Co-host Aisha Tyler agreed, “Amazing, amazing night. Beautiful, and it was at sunset and overlooking the ocean.” Then she remembered that the crew was going to let Gilbert talk about the ceremony after she returns to the show next week following her honeymoon. “I mean, we can’t tell too much about it because we want Sara to talk about it.”

The Roseanne actress, 39, has been engaged to Perry, 48, since April 2013. Gilbert who admits to normally being a shy and reserved person, gushed last year on the The Talk when describing how Perry proposed, “It’s like the most amazing proposal ever.” She added, “I’m sitting there listening and I’m kind of daydreaming and I’m thinking like, ‘If I ever proposed to her this would be an amazing way to do it.’ The people picnicking next to us pull out string instruments from under the blanket, walk over and they start playing [The Cure’s] Lovesong.”

Gay weddings are currently legal in 17 states: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, New Jersey, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington state, New Mexico and Hawaii, and Washington DC.

  • Jenny McCarthy Not Suited for ‘The View’

Jenny McCarthy isn’t suited for The View–at least according to Julie Chen. The comment came about during a visit both Chen and one of her costars on The Talk–Sharon Osbourne–made to Howard Stern’s satellite radio show.

The conversation turned to talk show ratings, and how The Talk might soon surpass The View. Stern then asked both ladies if The View made a big mistake in hiring Jenny McCarthy.

    Julie Chen said yes.

“What made ‘The View’ so popular and so good was that you had five different women from different walks of life discussing politics. And when… Joy [Behar] left and when Elisabeth [Hasselbeck] left, and they got Jenny in, I think they were trying to lighten the mood at the table. More gossip, more fun, more laughs. Jenny is beautiful and funny and talented and smart. In my opinion, ‘The View’ doesn’t know what it is now,” she told Stern.

Sharon Osbourne chimed in as well

“They knew what their path was,” she said of The View. “You knew what to expect. You watched it for their different opinions, and now it’s kind of all over the place. It’s not one or the other.”

Julie Chen was quick to point out, however, that Jenny McCarthy has talk show value–just probably not on a show like The View. She feels that McCarthy is far more suited for a show like The Talk.

The View’s Sherri Shepherd thinks Jenny brings something special to The View, and she shared her feelings just a day before Julie Chen’s comments hit the media.

“What a spirit of joy @jennyannmccarthy brings to @TheViewtv. Her excitement is contagious! I have known Jenny for over 10 years and her personality has never changed,” she wrote to accompany the following Instagram photo.

And while some may, in fact, agree that McCarthy brings joy–that’s not what makes the show tick. The View was never about a spirit of joy. It was a spirit of serious collaboration of women with concrete views on both serious and popular topics.

Was Julie Chen being vindictive when she made her comment about Jenny McCarthy? Or was she simply stating something that lots of people already believed?

If The Talk surpasses The View in the ratings race, do you think talk of dumping Jenny McCarthy will surface? It’s entirely possible they’re going on already–in hushed tones and behind closed doors.

  • Julie Chen Badmouths ‘The View’s’ Jenny McCarthy

The rivalry between ‘The Talk’ and ‘The View’ got turned up a notch Wednesday when ‘Talk’ hosts Julie Chen and Sharon Osbourne appeared on ‘The Howard Stern Show’. When asked by Howard Stern if ABC made a mistake in hiring Jenny McCarthy, Chen flatly said that “The View” made a big mistake because “No one wants to hear Jenny McCarthy talk about the New York mayoral race or politics,”

    http://youtu.be/ZuaWQoUuwFY

The harsh criticism may have left some wondering why Julie Chen feels the need to diminish another woman in the media who has done her no harm. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but why is Chen seemingly trying to give producers of “The View” reason to dismiss Jenny McCarthy from her job?

McCarthy joined ‘The View’ on Sept. 9. The 41-year-old single mother said she was grateful for the new job. Shortly after joining the show, McCarthy said,”This is the greatest show in the world. Thanks to the fans who supported me to get here. I hope I do you justice.”

Do the women on  ‘The Talk’  feel like they need to take jabs at ‘The View’ to boost their show’s ratings?

Recently, ‘The Talk’s’ 61-year-old co-host, Sharon Osbourne, flat out disrespected ‘The View’ when she said that except for Barbara Walters, the other ‘View’ host should “go f**k themselves.” She later realized that she embarrassed herself and had to apologize.

“I want to apologize to Jenny, Sherri and Whoopi, who are all accomplished, self-made women who have amazing careers. They have achieved so much. Please understand it was irreverent behavior and no disrespect meant.” said Osborne during an airing of  “The Talk”.

Ok, it was a rude statement, but it’s far from the worst thing that Sharon Osbourne has ever said or done on TV.

Julie Chen, however, who recently made news when she announced she had plastic surgery, continued to hack away at McCarthy and ‘The View’ on The Howard Stern Show. “What made ‘The View’ so popular and so good was that it was five different women from five different walks of life discussing politics.”  She continued by saying, “The View” simply “doesn’t know what it is now. What put them on the map and made them good and famous — they don’t do that anymore.”

However, Chen did soften her criticism of McCarthy with a few compliments.  “She’s beautiful, and funny, and talented, and smart,” Chen said of McCarthy. But were these compliments disingenuous? After all, when you admire and respect someone you don’t insinuate that they suck at their job.

What do you think? Is Jenny McCarthy bad for ‘The View” or is Julie Chen a hater?

  • Jenny McCarthy Doesn’t Belong On “The View”

Most viewers were delighted to hear that Jenny McCarthy would be joining the women’s talk show The View. However, there is one person that thinks the decision to hire McCarthy was a complete mistake. McCarthy joined the women of The View back in September after Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck left the show. She now co-hosts alongside Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, and Sherri Shepherd.

During a recent interview with Howard Stern, Julie Chen, host of the rival television show The Talk, didn’t hold anything back, and let Stern know exactly what she thought about McCarthy co-hosting The View. When Stern asked Chen if she thought it was a mistake to replace Behar and Hasselbeck,, she quickly replied saying: “Yes, because what made ‘The View’ so popular and so good was that it was five different women — from five different walks of life — discussing politics.”

Chen continued to dish on McCarthy telling Stern that “no one wants to hear Jenny McCarthy talk about politics.” “What put them on the map and made them good and famous, they don’t do that anymore. No one wants to hear Jenny McCarthy talk about the New York mayoral race or politics. They don’t. That’s not what you put Jenny McCarthy on for.”

Chen doesn’t agree with the reasoning behind hiring McCarthy. She says they only hired her to “lighten the mood”, but now The View has lost its identity. “When Joy and Elisabeth left and they got Jenny in, I think they were trying to lighten the mood at the table-more gossip, more fun, more laughs…what happened was, in my opinion, ‘The View’ doesn’t know what it is now.”

Chen’s co-host Sharon Osbourne agreed with Chen’s opinion, and also gave Stern her thoughts on McCarthy. “They knew what their path was … you knew what to expect,” Osbourne said. “You watched it for their different opinions and now it’s kind of all over the place. It’s not one or the other.”

Despite Chen’s criticism of McCarthy’s role on The View, she did comment that McCarthy would be a better fit on The Talk, which doesn’t talk about politics.

  • Julie Chen Criticizes “The View” for Hiring McCarthy

“The Talk” co-host Julie Chen criticized the ABC talk show, “The View,” for hiring Jenny McCarthy as a new co-host following the departures of Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

According to Ace Show Biz, when Chen Appeared on Howard Stern’s radio show on Wednesday with Sharon Osbourne, Chen was asked by Stern whether ABC made a wrong decision by bringing in McCarthy, a former Playboy model. “Yes,” she said. “Because what made ‘The View’ so popular and so good was that it was five different women-from five different walks of life-discussing politics.”

“What put them on the map and made them good and famous, they don’t do that anymore,” she continued. “No one wants to hear Jenny McCarthy talk about the New York mayoral race or politics. They don’t. That’s not what you put Jenny McCarthy on for.”

The Big Brother Host went on. “And when Joy left and when Elisabeth left and they got Jenny in, I think they were trying to lighten the mood at the table-more gossip, more fun, more laughs…what happened was, in my opinion, ‘The View’ doesn’t know what it is now.”

Osbourne agreed with her current co-host of “The Talk.”

“They knew what their path was…You knew what to expect,” she said. “You watched it for their different opinions and now it’s kind of all over the place. It’s not one or the other.”

Last month, Osbourne apologized after telling the ladies on “The View” to go “f***k themselves” before joining the rival talk show.

Chen, however, did say that 41-year old McCarthy, who is currently dating Donnie Wahlberg, is a “beautiful and funny and talented and smart” woman. She added that McCarthy would be a better fit with Chen and Osbourne’s current show, which doesn’t talk about politics.
