  • Julianna Margulies Confirms “The Good Wife” to End

Julianna Margulies has confirmed what those who missed yesterday’s Super Bowl hoped was nothing but a rumor. The Good Wife is ending its run with its May 8 episode.

While most Julianna Margulies fans came to know the actress through her role as Nurse Carol Hathaway (who romanced George Clooney’s character) on ER, she has long been the beloved Alicia Florrick on The Good Wife.

Following the Super Bowl ad on Sunday, both the network and Julianna Margulies followed up with statements.

“It’s never easy to say goodbye to one of the crown jewels of your network and studio, much less to a show that is among the best on television. But it also feels very right to end with the seven-year story its creators envisioned, and to celebrate the show’s final run while at the top of its creative game. It has been CBS’s sincere privilege to broadcast and produce ‘The Good Wife’ for seven extraordinary seasons. We thank and applaud the outstanding cast, led by the impeccable Julianna Margulies, and the consummate writing and producing team, headed by the brilliant Robert and Michelle King, who brought to life a smart, sophisticated series that has delivered audiences so many memorable characters and unforgettable moments. It is a series that will only grow in prestige as its episodes are watched again or discovered by new viewers for many years to come,” the CBS statement reads.

The Good Wife executive producers and co-creators Robert and Michelle King issued the following statement.

The Good Wife has been the creative experience of a lifetime. Collaborating with the finest actors, writers, producers, staff and crew on ‘The Education of Alicia Florrick’ has been a dream. We can’t imagine working with a more talented, professional, generous lead than Julianna Margulies or more supportive partners than Leslie Moonves, David Stapf, Glenn Geller and Nina Tassler at CBS and CBS Television Studios. We’re looking forward to using this seventh season to bring Alicia’s story to its natural conclusion. We couldn’t be more excited and grateful.”

Julianna Margulies sounds like she is comfortable with the end of The Good Wife.

“Being a part of The Good Wife has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. As an actress and a producer, it has been an absolute honor to be a part of a series that, throughout seven years, never settled on being just good… but always strived to be extraordinary. I have witnessed magic happen when Robert and Michelle King put pen to paper, and it has been a privilege to be in the company of their brilliance,” her statement reads. “To the most amazing and talented cast and crew, there will always be a special place in my heart for our ‘Good Wife’ family. As we close the book on our beloved show, I am humbled and grateful to know that together, we created and were a part of something truly remarkable.”

  • Julianna Margulies Reveals Why She Admires Her ‘The Good Wife’ Character Alicia Florrick

Julianna Margulies, best-known for her roles as nurse Carol Hathaway and love interest to George Clooney‘s character on ER and as Alicia Florrick on The Good Wife, says she can relate and admire her Good Wife character because of her ability to keep her emotions in check.

In an interview with Jane Pauley, the two-time Emmy winner dished on why she loves the character who returns to work as a lawyer after her disgraced philandering political husband goes to prison.

“I admire the way she is silent more than she speaks,” she told Pauley. “And you can see the wheels turning in her head. And I realize it’s so much more powerful to actually think before you speak than to just go off the top of your head, which was so the way I used to react as an actress. I hold my emotions on my sleeve, and she holds them so deep down.”

In its seventh season, The Good Wife has been very good to the actress. Margulies said yes to playing Alicia Florrick a year after giving birth to her son Kieran with husband Keith Lieberthal.

Julianna Margulies, 49, says she has much for which to be grateful.

“There’s a different appreciation you get for things when you’re at a different time in your life. And I obviously waited for the right time, and I got lucky, I got so lucky. I mean, I pretty much say it every night when I go to bed, how lucky I am, and with everything. I love my job.”

The Good Wife, starring Julianna Margulies, airs 9 p.m. Sundays on CBS.

  • ‘The Good Wife’ Signs Actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan as New Investigator

The Good Wife will have a new investigator when the show returns for its seventh season this fall. Jeffrey Dean Morgan has signed on as a regular on the series, playing Alicia Florrick’s (played by Julianna Margulies) latest hire.

Alicia may have hired Alex, who CBS describes as “a calm, experienced hourly investigator,” but no one has yet divulged whether he will work for the new firm Michael J. Fox’s character proposed at the end of season six–or for Lockhart Argos.

The Good Wife executive producers Robert and Michelle King issued a press release about the new character.

“We’ve loved and admired Jeffrey Dean Morgan for years, and we were thrilled to hear that Julianna did too, so it was a no-brainer to ask him to join our troupe,” they wrote.

When Jeffrey Dean Morgan arrives on The Good Wife, viewers might think he looks a bit familiar. That’s because he currently stars alongside Halle Berry in Extant, and he also appeared in Texas Rising–a recent miniseries.

Us Weekly speculates that Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s new character might be The Good Wife’s new Kalinda.

Fans will simply have to tune in for themselves to see if he plays a similar role.

Are you a fan of The Good Wife? Will you be checking out Jeffrey Dean Morgan in his new role starting this fall?

  • Julianna Margulies Showed Up At The Golden Globes With Dashing Husband

Julianna Margulies had a lot of reasons to attend the 2015 Golden Globe Awards. Not only was she nominated for a Best Actress award for her portrayal of Alicia Florick in the TV show The Good Wife, but she was also there to present the Cecil B. DeMille Award to her former ER co-star, George Clooney. As her date, Margulies brought along her husband Keith Lieberthal. The couple posed together at the red carpet, with Margulies looking striking in her elegant red dress while Lieberthal wore a simple but dashing suit.

The TV star opened up about her marriage and family life in an interview with Good Housekeeping. In the interview, she revealed that she wasn’t the “marrying type” until she met Lieberthal. She said that what changed her mind was “meeting someone I could actually imagine spending my life with”.

Margulies adds, “And, as corny as it sounds, it’s the little things, not the big things, that make the marriage. Because anyone can be hot and sexy and have a fun night, but when you look forward to waking up together, that’s someone you probably want to be with for the rest of your life.”

“I had been in relationships that weren’t really working and decided I needed to live as a person who wasn’t trying to constantly take care of everyone,” Margulies said in the interview about the time before she met Keith. “I always say to friends who haven’t found love that until you are completely content by yourself, you’re not going to find it. You’re going to be searching too hard.”

Margulies and Lieberthal got married on November 10, 2007 in Lenox, Massachusetts. Lieberthal is an attorney and is the son of academic Kenneth Lieberthal. The couple are currently living in Manhattan with their son Kieran. Keith was Julianna’s first boyfriend after her split from actor Ron Eldard back in 2003.

Julianna Margulies Dishes on Her Emmy Award, Josh Charles, and Vices

Julianna Margulies, who stars as lawyer Alicia Florrick on CBS’s The Good Wife, spoke with People recently and shared “one last thing.”

The 48-year-old Emmy-winner said she’s not someone who spends a lot of time resting on her laurels. In fact, Margulies said the attention makes her a little too uncomfortable.

She told People the last time she looked at her Emmy Award was “when I was doing the press rounds after I won.

“I haven’t really seen it much since then,” she admitted. “I was embarrassed by the attention. I wanted to deflect it. It was too much!”

It was quite the shocker for The Good Wife fans when Josh Charles‘ character, Will, was killed off last season. Margulies said the last time she told her former co-star she missed him was just before Labor Day weekend.

“I was sitting in court, and one of our recurring judges, Brooks, makes me laugh so hard. I’ll never say his last name [Ashmanskas] right; he’s a friend of Josh’s. I was texting Josh saying, ‘I miss you so much, I can’t believe you’re not here laughing with me right now,’” she recalled.

Margulies said that last advice she was given came from her parents, who told her, “Honey, you must rest.”

It seems the actress does try to take some time for some rest and relaxation and enjoys indulging with family and friends.

“This past weekend we had some friends up at our house [with husband Keith Lieberthal] in the country,” she said. “I cooked a huge steak dinner, and we had the best red wine. I don’t regret it.’

Meanwhile, Margulies made an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and performed a hilarious skit with the late night host. The duo channeled their best high school administrator personas and presented “Monday Morning Announcements.”

  • Julianna Margulies Talks ‘The Good Wife’ Shocker

Julianna Margulies kept quite a secret from fans of The Good Wife. It seems she knew for quite some time about the killing off of Will Gardner (played by Josh Charles) on the most recent episode of the award winning show on Sunday night. The show’s creators Robert and Michelle King kept Margulies apprised from the very beginning about their plan.

“They are so respectful, they ran it by me first before bringing it to the Network, and Josh and I both thought it was a brilliant idea,” Margulies wrote on The Good Wife’s Facebook page, where she also answered many dismayed and shocked fan’s questions following Will Gardner’s shooting death.

Robert and Michelle King also shared their sentiments via Facebook in a letter written to the show’s–and Josh Charles’s character’s–fans following Sunday night’s shocking episode of The Good Wife.

Julianna Margulies was asked if Alicia Florrick will ever find love again now that Will Gardner is dead.

“I hope so, don’t we all wish that for anyone who has lost a love in their life? That being said, it will take a long time,” she answered.

She was also asked what might come next for Alicia Florrick and her husband–played by Chris Noth.

“Watch, the episode following next week, Alicia comes up with the answer for her and Peter,” she replied.

One of the most fun questions Julianna Margulies was asked was whether George Clooney or Josh Charles was more fun to play love scenes with. Her answer to this one was very diplomatic.

“I got lucky two times!!” she said.

  • Julianna Margulies Has Known About Shocking Episode For A While

Julianna Margulies opened up to her Facebook fans today about the shocking episode of “The Good Wife” that aired on Sunday night, saying she’s known about the decision to kill off a main character for a while and was okay with it.

The episode sent fans to social media immediately as they tried to come to grips with what had just happened, and the show’s writers penned an open letter to explain why they chose to do what they did.

    *Caution: Spoiler alert!*

Margulies said she thought the plan to kill of Will’s character was “brilliant” during a Facebook Q&A on Monday afternoon and added that her character, Alicia, won’t be seeing another man anytime soon despite what fans may want for her.

“I think the reason everyone wanted Will and Alicia together was because they weren’t together…I actually never thought they could make it, too much baggage on both sides,” she said. “I really encourage you to watch this coming Sunday’s episode, you will see what she really thinks about Will. And bring tissues.”

The show’s creator, Robert King, released an open letter to fans this morning on behalf of himself and his wife, Michelle, saying that actor Josh Charles will be missed and explaining their decision.

“We, like you, mourn the loss of Will Gardner. And while Will is gone, our beloved Josh Charles is very much alive and remains an integral part of our family,” they wrote. “The Good Wife, at its heart, is the “Education of Alicia Florrick.” To us, there always was a tragedy at the center of Will and Alicia’s relationship: the tragedy of bad timing. And when faced with the gut punch of Josh’s decision, made over a year ago, to move on to other creative endeavors, we had a major choice to make. We could “send him off to Seattle,” he could be disbarred, or get married, or go off to Borneo to do good works. But there was something in the passion that Will and Alicia shared that made distance a meager hurdle. The brutal honesty and reality of death speaks to the truth and tragedy of bad timing for these two characters. Will’s death propels Alicia into her newest incarnation.”

  • Julianna Margulies’ Beautiful New Apartment Flooded

It’s a good thing that Architectural Digest decided to shoot some photos of Julianna Margulies’ beautiful apartment, because she may need those photos to remember how it looked. Just a few weeks after the magazine asked to use her home in an issue, her upstairs neighbor’s radiator busted and flooded her newly decorated apartment.

Margulies was recently nominated for a Golden Globe and appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show to talk about her role of Alicia Florrick on the CBS drama The Good Wife. While on the show, she also talked about the apartment flooding. She explained that the family had been on vacation and returned home to find the apartment a wet mess.

“The whole time I kept saying to my son, ‘We have our health,’ ” she said of travel delays during a winter storm. “We actually enjoyed it. We went and stayed at the Marriott in Denver. The airport Marriott, the beds were very comfortable. We were fine and then they lost our luggage, and that’s fine. It happens.”

“We walked into our brand-new apartment with this [magazine] – it was in the mail – and everything was flooded,” she continued. “The whole place had completely flooded from the guy upstairs.”

The actress was happy to have the photos of her home before the flood and did not comment on how much the repairs to the flooded home will cost.

It is not uncommon for radiators to bust in cold weather, when they are working their hardest. If you happen to live below a neighbor with a busted radiator, you are in a position to deal with flooding.

Hopefully Margulies can get her apartment repaired quickly and have it redecorated to meet her likings. Even if she can’t get it back to what it looked like before the flood, she will always have the magazine photos to remember the way it used to be.

  • Julianna Margulies: Architectural Digest Look Floods

Julianna Margulies may be a hot Hollywood star, known for her role as Alicia Florrick in The Good Wife, but that in no way makes her exempt from the banes of home ownership. Featured in the February issue of Architectural Digest in an elaborate spread showing off the utmost in New York City apartment design, she and hubby Keith Lieberthal eagerly anticipated receiving the magazine with the photos of their home. The issue awaited them upon their return from a Christmas skiing vacation, but something else did, too. When they walked into their apartment they quickly learned their upstairs neighbor’s radiator exploded–leaving everything below it–namely Margulies’s home–flooded.

Even the trip home, preceding their discovery of the apartment catastrophe, was wrought with a bit of stress due to weather across the country. It actually took the family 30 hours to get to New York from Colorado.

“The whole time I kept saying to my son, ‘We have our health,’ ” she told Ellen DeGeneres earlier this week. “We actually enjoyed it. We went and stayed at the Marriott in Denver. The airport Marriott, the beds were very comfortable. We were fine and then they lost our luggage, and that’s fine. It happens.”

When they finally arrived home–a bit travel-weary, but grateful–they were greeted with an uninhabitable mess.

“We walked into our brand-new apartment with this [magazine] – it was in the mail – and everything was flooded,” Margulies says, showing Ellen the issue of Architectural Digest, featuring a much different take on their apartment. “The whole place had completely flooded from the guy upstairs.”

“His radiator exploded,” she added. “So at least we have pictures.”

“Of what it used to look like,” DeGeneres quipped. “It looked amazing.”

It really did look spectacular as seen in this Twitter post from Architectural Digest.

Fortunately Julianna Margulies stars in The Good Wife. That aforementioned tidbit of information definitely lends itself to her current household hell. It, at the very least, means she has everything required (namely money) to gut her family’s New York apartment and start from scratch–or at least pay for fancy digs while the renovation takes place. They probably aren’t staying at an airport Marriott during the renovations, however. It sounds like this mess is going to take quite a while to repair.

  • Julianna Margulies Talks “The Good Wife” And Divorce

Julianna Margulies sat down for a recent interview about the fifth season of “The Good Wife”, and said if she had one wish for her character it would be to see her “let her hair down”.

“What I root for in Alicia is for her to let her hair down and to do what feels good, not what feels right,” she said. “I, as the fan of the show, want to see her come undone again. Because I think she’s so buttoned up and so afraid, she holds her cards so close to the vest. And as soon as she starts playing them out, she can’t stand up. So I’m looking forward to seeing that from her and I think many factors are going to start happening.”

With Alicia receiving an offer from Cary to leave Lockhart Gardner with him and several other associates, fans may be seeing some big changes this season. Of course, the thing many fans tune in for is a love triangle between Alicia, Will, and her husband Peter, played by Chris Noth. As Alicia deals with her husband’s cheating ways, she unravels a little at a time.

“I think she knows as long as she’s at Lockhart and Gardner, there’s no way to make her marriage work. Because she’ll always be seeing Will. I think she knows, that last scene, it was one of my favorite scenes, where she’s in the car with Will and she’s completely come undone. It’s that feeling of, unless I’m away from you, this will keep happening. So she has to make that choice. Otherwise it will be divorce and she wouldn’t be starting out her own law firm,” she said.

As for the firm? It’s not going to be pretty, she says.

“There is this incredible arc that’s about to start in episode one, and shift dramatically in episode 15. And the only way I can explain it without giving it away is that it’s sort of like this bloodbath that happens. Alicia left with their three biggest clients. It generates a lot of money per year. And they gave her her chance. So it’s a bloodbath and then what I would call an explosion and then there’s going to be a bizarre sort of, emotional journey that she’ll be on for a little bit.”

“The Good Wife” premiered on Sunday and you can catch the rest of the season on CBS at 9 p.m.

  • Julianna Margulies In Legal Battle

Does life imitate art? For some it does. Julianna Margulies, star of the popular series The Good Wife, in now in the middle of some real-life, heated legal situations herself after having played the prominent, tough-talking attorney known by the stage name of Alicia Florrick.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the former management team behind Julianna is suing based on uncompensated commissions from previous work. Steve Dontanville, her old agent, and Frank Frattaroli are the two main individuals from D/F Management responsible for filing the lawsuit. The suit was filed by Los Angeles attorney, Mathew Rosengart, who is representing the interests of the D/F Management members involved in this case.

Julianna Margulies and Steve Dontanville began working together in 2009. During their time as an agent and star double team, Julianna received several business opportunities. She was selected as the representative for L’Oreal Paris, chosen for The Good Wife, and even received television appearances for ER. The suit claims that these business ventures were made possible due to the efforts of Steve Dontanville where additional unpaid compensations have yet to be divvied to Mr. Dontanville. The famous actress ended her contract with the D/F Management team on April 29, 2011. Why is this suit being filed now instead of back in 2011?

In March of this year, The Good Wife was sold into syndication, promising a hefty allowance for Julianna. Since her previous management team initially signed on for a 10 percent cut, the same team feels that they are still entitled to that cut. In addition to that cut, the firm claims that $420,000 still needs to be paid for other commission dealings.

The suit specifies that commission payment should have flowed in regards to stereotypical Hollywood industry standards where payment policies include, “Ongoing payments following termination for any and all entertainment industry employment secured during the period that the management company was providing management services to the client.”

Lacey Rose from The Hollywood Reporter explained the situation. “It is incredibly rare to have a dispute like this with a star as big as Julianna go to trial. There is potentially millions of dollars on the line for her, and the potential embarrassment that comes with going to trial,” Lacey said.
