  • Planet Of The Apes Theme Wedding To Start New Trend?

It’s spring and love is in the air. Wedding season is kicking off as the weather warms up and brides begin to look forward to their big day. Some will have the traditional gown, church aisle, veil, and the whole bit.

Some may opt for a more modern spin on the ordeal or go for an outdoor wedding, perhaps barefoot on the beach. Some might take a hint from Judy Greer and her husband and go for an off the wall weird theme like Alice in Wonderland, Fairytale, or I don’t know, Planet of the Apes. So romantic.

Judy Greer said on Conan that those other played out themes are “cheesy”, and wanted to go with something else.

Her husband’s love for the Planet of the Apes movies as well as her upcoming role in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes influenced her choices. During the cocktail hour of the event, they had Rise of the Planet of the Apes playing on one screen and the original Planet of the Apes on another.

As for her husband’s gift, she gave him a Rolex watch with the phrase “Ape shall not kill ape”, admitting that it should have been “Ape shall never kill ape”. The guests ate wedding cake topped with two chimps, instead of the traditional bride and groom miniatures.

This is great to ponder for all of you brides-to-be. Perhaps considering your husbands likes could influence your choices a little more as you plan for the big kickoff of your new life together.

Could there be a new trend toward man-themed weddings this season? I could see Hooters weddings happening, with hot wings served to grandma by a young lady in orange hotpants. Or maybe some will go with a Top Gear theme or a wedding where nothing is served but meat.

    This could get interesting, people.

  • Judy Greer Has ‘Planet of the Apes’ Themed Wedding

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes co-star Judy Greer revealed to Conan O’Brien that she’d opted for a Planet of the Apes-themed wedding during her 2011 nuptials to television producer Dean Johnsen.

Greer told Conan, “During the cocktail hour, we had the TV screens in the bar with the movies playing. We had Rise (of the Planet of the Apes) playing on one screen and then the original, obviously, Planet of the Apes playing on the bigger screen.” Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is set to open on July 11, and is directed by Matt Reeves, of Cloverfield and Let Me In fame. Dawn also features Andy Serkis, Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke and Keri Russell. Russell had previously worked with Reeves on the WB drama Felicity, which was co-created by J.J. Abrams.

Here Greer relates to Conan her peculiar choice of a wedding theme:

Greer, 38, is best known for her roles as Kitty Sanchez on Fox’s Arrested Development, as well as Cheryl Tunt on the animated comedy series Archer. In 2011, the actress began hosting an online series of workout videos called Reluctantly Healthy, and in 2014 published her first book, I Don’t Know What You Know Me From: Confessions of a Co-Star.

In Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Greer plays an ape named Cornelia, set against the goings on of a growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar, who are threatened by a band of human survivors. Man vs. Ape action ensues. Here is the trailer:

Actor James Franco, who starred in the Dawn prequel, 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, was not included in the latest film, after Rise director Rupert Wyatt was replaced by Reeves. Freida Pinto, who played primatologist Caroline Aranha in Rise, was also excluded from the sequel.

  • Planet of the Apes Themed Wedding For Judy Greer

Some brides and grooms incorporate clever themes into their wedding ceremonies. It may be a beach theme or a country-western setting or even a rustic motif. When Judy Greer said “I do” to her husband, television producer Dean Johnsen back in 2011, the pair celebrated their big day with a Planet of the Apes theme.

During an interview on Conan, the actress said, “We had a chimp husband-and-wife cake topper at our wedding. At the cocktail hour, we played ‘Planet of the Apes’ and ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ on two separate televisions in the bar area. And on the wedding gift I bought him, a vintage Rolex, I had it engraved, ‘Ape shall not kill ape.’ I was then told that, technically, it’s ‘Ape shall never kill ape,’ but there wasn’t enough space for engraving purposes.”

Talk about being totally Planet of the Apes-obsessed.

Now in a Hollywood twist of fate, Greer is starring in the franchise’s newest installment that will be released this summer, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. She got advice on how to play an ape from several ape-gurus while on the set, “Andy Serkis is the master, but Terry Notary is the godfather, so he taught me everything I know. I got there late in the process, so I learned a lot on set from my amazing fellow apes. They were helping me out — when we were waiting around for set-ups, I’d be, ‘Can we practice quad walking? Can I get my half-crutches? Is this good?’ ‘No, keep your butt down!’”

You can check out Greer and the latest installment of the franchise in theaters on July 11. The tagline for the film is, “Survivors of the simian plague trigger an all-out war between humanity and Caesar’s growing forces.” Also set to star in the movie are Keri Russell and Gary Oldman.
