  • Judge Joe Brown, Recently Jailed, Running for Office

The man who helmed a popular TV court show for 15 seasons is now running for office. But could he be up against his worst challenge yet?

Judge Joe Brown, the man whose namesake show gave him the opportunity to dispense justice in his own style, sometimes sitting on top of his bench.

Brown had formerly been a prosecutor in Memphis, Tennessee. In fact, he was the first African-American prosecutor in that city. He later became a judge on the State Criminal Court of Shelby County, Tennessee.

Brown was thrust into the national spotlight when James Earl Ray, the man who killed Martin Luther King, Jr. was filing the last of his appeals. The investigation was re-opened in the case. Judge Brown was presiding, but was removed due to some statements he had made about the murder weapon that led some to believe that he would not be an impartial judge.

But during this time, he was spotted by the producers of the Judge Judy program, a show that has run 18 seasons.

Brown was whisked away to head his own court TV show. But his show was canceled in 2013. Now Judge Brown is running for the of District Attorney back in Shelby County, Tennessee, picking up his judicial career where it left off, it would seem.

But something else has happened in the short time since his walking off the set of his show.

    Judge Joe Brown was arrested.

In a scene that was as ironic as anything before, urge Joe Brown was jailed for contempt of court. At the time, he was in the court helping a client in a child support case. Judge Brown says the hearing went ridiculously sideways and he got angry.

Brown was charged with contempt of court, arrested, and sentenced to five days in jail.

The question is, will the citizens of Memphis care that their D.A. has been to jail himself? Or will they see it Joe’s way, that his opponent set this up to try to beat him in the race?

His opponent in the D.A. race, Amy Weirich, made hay with the incident herself, “That sort of disrespectful circus stunt may get Hollywood ratings, but this is real life and real people, and Joe Brown knows better. He should be ashamed of himself.”

  • Judge Joe Brown’s Meltdown Landed Him In Jail

Judge Joe Brown, the star of the television show of the same name, Judge Joe Brown, in which he played a television judge, was arrested on five counts of contempt of court in Memphis, Tennessee. Brown was sentenced to five days in jail over an incident in Juvenile Court.

“Right now, he’s being processed at our facility,” said Chip Washington, a spokesman for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. “That’s about it for right now.”

When court workers informed Brown that they had no record of the case. Reports indicate that Brown then “lost control” and became “verbally abusive.”

The Commercial Appeal, states that Brown, 66, allegedly yelled at Juvenile Court Magistrate Harold “Hal” Horne during a child support hearing.

Horne instructed Brown to calm down, but he refused.

“He all but had that courtroom in a riot,” Juvenile Court Chief Magistrate Dan Michael told ABC News.

Judge Joe Brown was believed to be there representing a client accused of not paying child support, Michael said. According to Michael, Brown caused a spectacle in court by yelling and repeatedly challenging the juvenile court magistrate’s authority.

Horne had Brown arrested. He continued to protest, so Horne added four additional counts, making Brown’s sentence five days in jail.

Brown is currently running to be the top prosecutor in Shelby County. Memphis is the county seat. He is a former Shelby County, Tenn., Criminal Court judge.

Judge Brown’s reality TV show aired from 1998 to 2013 and was cancelled last year.

  • Judge Joe Brown Arrested And Jailed

Sometimes those who are responsible for sending people to jail get jailed themselves, which is exactly what happened to Joe Brown, the famous television judge who had his own court show for 15 years.

According to TMZ, Brown was representing someone in a child support case in Memphis, and when he arrived in court, he was told the case wasn’t on the books, meaning the judge, the court and the court officers had no idea a child support hearing was supposed to take place that day.

And that’s when Brown lost it.

Based on reports, he began yelling and swearing at court officials and he even had a few harsh words for the judge. After numerous warnings to calm down and plenty of threats to hold Brown in contempt of court, the judge gave Brown two days in jail, which eventually turned into three days after the cursing and yelling continued.

If you remember, back in 2013 Brown was seen in a video completely inebriated, flirting with women, and speaking badly about the television show that made him a household name.

“I do not do that bulls–t anymore,” he said, since the last season of Judge Joe Brown was in the 2012-2013 television season.

Now why the child support case was never on court records remains to be seen, and why Brown flew off the handle in the manner in which he did is another question entirely, but either way, it seems the 66 year old is losing himself, because this is the second embarrassing incident he’s had in less than a year, which isn’t good at all.

Back in March of 2013, CBS Television Distribution said it appreciated all the hard work Brown has done over the years, and it was sad to see him go.

“We would like to thank Joe for 15 great years,” said the company. “As well as executive producer John Terenzio and the entire staff for all their hard work and dedication to the show.”
