  • Bryan Adams, Ringo Starr Remember Joe Cocker

Bryan Adams, Ringo Starr, and a wealth other singers and celebrities paid tribute to the late Joe Cocker, who died Monday at the age of 70. The singer died following a battle with cancer. He is best known for his 1974 hit song, ‘You Are So Beautiful.’

Joe Cocker collaborated with Jennifer Warnes on his only hit to surpass ‘You Are So Beautiful.’ ‘Up Where We Belong’ was a quick chart climber–reaching the number one spot on the Billboard charts–in 1982.

Bryan Adams, Ringo Starr, Hugh Laurie, Steven Tyler, Josh Groban, and more took to Twitter to remember Joe Cocker following the announcement of his untimely passing.

As Bryan Adams said in his tweet, Joe Cocker was one of the best rock singers ever. Hopefully the family members and close friends he leaves behind find some solace in the words that each of these singers/musicians has expressed in an effort to ease just a tiny bit of their pain.

  • Katy Perry Opens Up About What She Learned From Divorce

Divorce is never easy for anyone, and Katy Perry is no different. In a recent interview for her August cover issue of Rolling Stone, Perry shared a few lessons she learned from her divorce from Russell Brand in 2011.

“Now I know—first and foremost, self-love, and then give love away,” she said. “Back then it was mostly just me giving love away. I went through my ‘return of Saturn,’ is what they call it. It’s this kind of astrological thing they talk about, when the planet Saturn comes to teach you lessons, and either you reject them or accept them. And I accepted those lessons that I needed to learn. And if you reject them, it’s your midlife crisis that comes around at 50.”

The Roar singer has had her share of celebrity romances — from long-term relationships with John Mayer and Brand to fleeting hook-ups with Josh Groban and Robert Pattinson — and knows what it can be like to try to nuture a relationship in the public eye. Even so, Perry says it is unlikely she would date anyone who wasn’t famous.

“I’ve done that before,” she said “It’s not that they have to be famous, although there’s a level of understanding when they’re in the same business, you know?”

The 29-year-old said she believes only a famous person could really understand what it means to live in the spotlight.

“They understand what it means when you’re tired from a show or the tour’s exhausting you or if an interview went wrong—they know all the ins and outs, so you can just walk in to the house with a certain face and they understand, you know? said Perry. “Rather than, like, having to explain everything and that takes two, three hours.”

  • Idina Menzel, Others Honored for Charitable Work

Idina Menzel, Iman, Claire Danes and others were honored Friday by Variety Magazine for charitable work in its “Power of Women: New York” issue.

Other honorees Sarah Jessica Parker, Susan Sarandon and A&E President and CEO Nancy Dubac, were honored at a luncheon hosted by designer Zac Posen at Cipriani in Manhattan.

Katie Couric, Gayle King, Josh Groban and others paid tribute at the ceremony sponsored by HTC One and FYIslo, A&E’s new television network.

Menzel was honored for her own foundation, A BroaderWay, which assists underprivileged young girls from urban communities. She read a heart-wrenching essay by one of her students, but also made the audience laugh after her introduction by long-time friend Groban.

“He got my name right!” she joked, referring to John Travolta‘s mispronunciation of her name at the Academy Awards this year.

Iman shared her experiences with the Dr. Hawa Abdi Foundation which helps provide medical attention, clean water and other basic necessities for people in need in her native Somalia, from which she fled decades ago.

“It’s amazing to me what has happened to my country. … It was once peaceful, progressive, an admirable country,” said the supermodel. “There was nothing that women could not do. Today, they are not even allowed to drive a car.”

Sarandon was presented an award for her support of the group Hope North, which provides educational opportunities for Ugandan children of war.

“The fact that we’re here means we are really lucky … so why do this?” said Sarandon. “It feels really good to know you have done something.”

Danes was cited for her work with Afghan Hands, a literacy program for Afghani women, and Dubac was honored for her work with Project Rubicon/The Mission Continues, which aids military veterans.

Finally, Sarah Jessica Parker was noted for her advocacy for the New York City Ballet.
