  • David Crosby Talks Joni Mitchell’s Aneurysm, Disses Kanye West

David Crosby of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young fame has long been a close friend of Joni Mitchell’s. Crosby recently confirmed that the ‘Big Yellow Taxi’ singer did, in fact, suffer an aneurysm when she was mysteriously hospitalized back in March. Earlier reports said she suffered from Morgellons Disease. There had been some speculation that she had an aneurysm, too, but Crosby is the first to confirm it. He also said she is unable to speak as a result.

“I have not spoken with her. To my knowledge she is not speaking yet. She is home, she is in care, she is recovering,” he said. “She took a terrible hit. She had an aneurysm, and nobody found her for a while. And she’s going to have to struggle back from it the way you struggle back from a traumatic brain injury.”

David Crosby and Joni Mitchell first became friends back in the 1960s, when folk music was all the rage. Mitchell also dated David Crosby’s former bandmate, Graham Nash.

“She’s a tough girl and very smart. So, how much she’s going to come back and when, I don’t know and I’m not going to guess,” David Crosby said of Joni Mitchell. “I love her…She’s probably the best of us–probably the greatest living singer-songwriter.”

In addition to talking to the Hollywood Reporter about Joni Mitchell, David Crosby also expressed his feelings about Kanye West. He wasn’t nearly as kind, however. He was asked about a tweet he posted several months ago, in which he called Kim Kardashian’s husband “an idiot and a poser.”

“Yes, I said that!” he said. “It all stands on what you produce, what you actually put down. Kanye West can’t write, sing, or play. So I have trouble with him as anything but a poser. Produce? That means he sits in a chair while the engineer does the work. He’s a poser! And I’m not backing off it.”

There’s something about those hippies from the 1960s. They’re outspoken, but typically very down-to-earth. And they don’t like bullsh*t.

Kudos to David Crosby for keeping fans apprised of Joni Mitchell’s condition, and for speaking his mind about Kanye West.

“>Joni Mitchell and a former member of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, confirmed that Mitchell suffered an aneurysm and is unable to speak.

Joni Mitchell was hospitalized in March, which led to much speculation about her health. It wasn’t until David Crosby confirmed her condition this week that fans of the beloved folk singer knew exactly what was ailing her.

“I have not spoken with her. To my knowledge she is not speaking yet. She is home, she is in care, she is recovering,” he told HuffPost Live. “She took a terrible hit. She had an aneurysm, and nobody found her for a while. And she’s going to have to struggle back from it the way you struggle back from a traumatic brain injury.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Crosby and Joni Mitchell first became friends in the 1960s during the folk music boon.

Joni Mitchell also dated Crosby bandmate Graham Nash.

“She’s a tough girl and very smart. So, how much she’s going to come back and when, I don’t know and I’m not going to guess,” Crosby said of Mitchell “I love her… She’s probably the best of us — probably the greatest living singer-songwriter.”

Meanwhile, Crosby shared a different viewpoint when it came to talk of Kanye West in the same interview. Earlier this year, Crosby tweeted that the rapper was “an idiot and a poser,” and Crosby stands by that sentiment.

“Yes, I said that!” David Crosby said. “It all stands on what you produce, what you actually put down. Kanye West can’t write, sing, or play. So I have trouble with him as anything but a poser. Produce? That means he sits in a chair while the engineer does the work. He’s a poser! And I’m not backing off it.”

  • Joni Mitchell Improving, Still Hospitalized–What is Morgellons Disease?

Joni Mitchell remains hospitalized several days after being rushed to the hospital after a collapse. Doctors say her condition is improving. Her medical scare has prompted people all over the world to wonder about the mysterious disease she claims to suffer from–Morgellons disease. What is it? More importantly–is it real?

The Mayo Clinic says Morgellons disease is both mysterious and controversial. It remains unexplained. People with the condition present with a skin disorder that is characterized by sores, crawling sensations on and under the skin, and fiber-like filaments emerging from the sores. It’s not certain what these strings are. Some say they are wisps of cotton thread, probably coming from clothing or bandages. Others say they result from an infectious process in the skin cells. Further study is needed.

Attitudes among medical professionals toward Morgellons disease tend to fall within three specific categories.

    1. Some health professionals believe that Morgellons disease is a specific condition that needs to be confirmed by research.

    2. Some health professionals believe that signs and symptoms of Morgellons disease are caused by another condition, often mental illness.

    3. Other health professionals don’t acknowledge Morgellons disease or are reserving judgment until more is known about the condition.

In Joni Mitchell’s memoir, Joni Mitchell: In Her Own Words, the ‘Both Sides Now’ and ‘Big Yellow Taxi’ singer described how the disease affected her.

“I couldn’t wear clothing. I couldn’t leave my house for several years. Sometimes it got so I’d have to crawl across the floor. My legs would cramp up, just like a polio spasm. It hit all of the places where I had polio.”

Back in 2010, Joni Mitchell said she wanted out of the music business, so she could devote her time for raising awareness for and supporting those with Morgellons disease.

“Morgellons is a slow, unpredictable killer–a terrorist disease: it will blow up one of your organs, leaving you in bed for a year,” she said. “Morgellons is always diagnosed as ‘delusion of parasites,’ and they send you to a psychiatrist. I’m actually trying to get out of the music business to battle for Morgellons sufferers to receive the credibility that’s owed to them.”

CBS News reports that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has made efforts to respond to the Morgellons community by conducting investigations, and even at one point enlisting the U.S. Armed Forces Institute of Pathology and the American Academy of Dermatology to help with research. A handful of studies suggest Morgellons is simply an indication that a person may need to seek treatment for depression, skin-picking disorder, anxiety and even substance abuse.

Do you think Joni Mitchell is physically ill or has an illness that has caused delusions?

Either way, fans are no doubt happy to learn that the 72-year-old singer’s condition is improving, and that she will likely be released from the hospital before too long.

  • Joni Mitchell Remains Hospitalized, ‘Getting Stronger Each Day’

Joni Mitchell, who has been hospitalized with Morgellons Disease, is reportedly getting “stronger each day,” according to an update on her official website.

On March 31, the Canadian folk singer was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital suffering from the affects of the rare disease.

“Joni remains under observation in the hospital and is resting comfortably,” the April 3 statement on JoniMitchell.com reads. “We are encouraged by her progress and she continues to improve and get stronger each day.”

Joni Mitchell, 71, was rushed to the hospital after reportedly being found unconscious in her Los Angeles home.

Mitchell has long suffered from a little-understood condition called Morgellons disease, which forced her to stop working.

Joni Mitchell told the Los Angeles Times in 2010 that she had “this weird, incurable disease that seems like it’s from outer space.”

“Fibers in a variety of colors protrude out of my skin like mushrooms after a rainstorm: they cannot be forensically identified as animal, vegetable or mineral,” said Mitchell at the time.

In 2013, Mitchell told The Star: “I haven’t been doing much lately because I’ve just come through about seven years of a flattening kind of illness. I’m not cured but I’ve found a helpful physician way outside the box. Western medicine says this doesn’t even exist; it’s a psychotic disease. It’s not.”

According to an article by Billboard magazine, “sufferers say fibers grow from lesions in the skin, potentially because of tiny parasites. Crawling sensations, extreme itching, and general fatigue/mental fog are also named as symptoms of the condition.”
