  • Samantha Bee: Late Night Show to Debut Next Month

Samantha Bee will debut her new late-night satirical talk show, set to air on TBS, on February 8. Full Frontal With Samantha Bee will be the only late night show hosted by a woman. Does she have what it takes to compete in late-night ratings war?

A former correspondent on Jon Stewart’s Daily Show, Samantha Bee plans to lean heavily into the big news issues, relying on satire to fuel her humor. One of her first on-air interviews involves a female veteran as she takes on the VA.

Her interviewee lost a foot and got a prosthetic, although it was made for a man. Samantha Bee learns there aren’t any words for female body parts in the computer system, and that they barely offer any OB/GYN services.

“So, the VA is the one place you can’t find a woman’s vagina online,” Samantha Bee deadpans. This prompts the official to respond, “We’re on the faster side of slow.”

If you liked the humor on the Daily Show, you will no doubt enjoy Full Frontal With Samantha Bee. That’s something she’s proud to admit.

“It’s natural,” Samantha Bee said on Thursday at the winter Television Critics Association gathering. “I loved doing that so much. But we’re expanding that world and going to mix up the styles and evolve the medium.”

Bee knows she will soon be the exception to the late-night rule. That isn’t something she fears, however, but she says hers won’t be a “woman’s show.”

“It makes complete sense to me that it would be part of the conversation. Women’s issues are completely important to me. But it’s not going to be the only thing we talk about on the show,” she says.

Will you be tuning in to check out Samantha Bee when her new show–Full Frontal With Samantha Bee–debuts on TBS on February 8? Do you think she stands a chance against the late night men?

  • Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence Fulfill Jon Stewart Prophecy With New Movie [Pics]

Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence are writing a movie together that will star both of them as sisters. That bit of news titillates fans of both actresses, many of whom could hardly contain themselves last month when pictures of the two on vacation together hit headlines.

Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence are burning through the writing of the script, which Jennifer Lawrence broke news of to the New York Times this week.

“We play sisters,” Jennifer Lawrence said. “We’re almost done writing. It just flowed out of us. We’ve got about 100 pages right now.”

“Amy and I were creatively made for each other. We have different flavors. It’s been the most fun experience of my life. We start the day off on the phone, laughing. And then we send each other pages. And we crack up. I’m flying out tomorrow to see her in Chicago. We’ll write a little bit with her sister, Kim, who worked with Amy when she was writing ‘Trainwreck.’”

“I emailed her after I saw ‘Trainwreck’ and said, ‘I don’t know where to get started. I guess I should just say it: I’m in love with you,’” Lawrence said. “We started emailing, and then emailing turned to texting.”

The sparkly-yet-grungy friendship between the two super-women of Hollywood blossomed into headline-grabbing Instagram posts that Schumer had to explain to Jon Stewart.

Amy Schumer told Jon Stewart how Jennifer Lawrence, the highest-paid actress in Hollywood today, ended up on a boat with her and her friends.

“I was like, ‘Oh, we’re going on a boat tomorrow. You should come.’ It was kind of a hypothetical,” Schumer said. “And she was like, ‘I think I’m coming.’ And I was like, ‘Oh my God!’”

“She’s the coolest chick you’ll ever meet,” Schumer said. “She’s the best hang, she was like one of the gang.”

That’s when Jon Stewart threw out the idea that Schumer and Lawrence do a film together. He said of one of the pics Shumer had posted with Lawrence:

“That’s your next movie poster. Tell me that’s not a cop movie.”

And now they’re doing a movie together. Jon Stewart is still giving gifts to the world.

  • Jon Stewart Secret White House Meetings: What Happened?

Jon Stewart has been twice summoned to the White House to meet with President Barack Obama. Is Stewart a Liberal operative, using his show as a base of operations through which to influence the minds of young people?

That notion has sprung from, though not necessarily originated with, a recent Politico “investigation.” The unearthing of proof of Jon Stewart’s secret meetings with President Obama wasn’t really all that hard. He was right there in the visitor logs. But when you put his visits and the other events of those days together, you may see patterns.

    Or not.

“Jon Stewart slipped unnoticed into the White House in the midst of the October 2011 budget fight,” Politico reports, “summoned to an Oval Office coffee with President Barack Obama”

“In February 2014, Obama again requested Stewart make the trip from Manhattan to the White House, this time for a midmorning visit hours before the president would go before television cameras to warn Russia that ‘there will be costs’ if it made any further military intervention in Ukraine.”

“To engage privately with the president in his inner sanctum at two sensitive moments — previously unreported meetings that are listed in the White House visitor logs and confirmed to Politico by three former Obama aides — speaks volumes about Stewart and his reach, which goes well beyond the million or so viewers who tune in to The Daily Show on most weeknights.”

This week, Jon Stewart himself twice addressed addressed the conspiracy theories about his visits to the White House.

“I went through the normal White House entrance like everyone else,” Stewart told his Daily Show audience, “and I told my mom what I was doing, and then she told her friends, and then her friends were like, ‘Still not a cardiologist.’ But the point is this: Something is not a secret just because you don’t know about it!”

Stewart said he and Obama discussed the Obamacare website fiasco. Of course, “discussed’ is a loose term.

“‘Really? The VA [Veterans’ Administration] can’t be fixed any quicker or healthcare.gov can’t come online without crashing my son’s Minecraft game?’”

Jon Stewart wrapped by saying, “To all future presidents, if you asked me to come to Washington, I will do that. Because I have no idea how to react to that other than, ‘What time?’ ”

  • Amy Schumer Explains Why She Turned Down ‘The Daily Show’

Amy Schumer has confirmed that she was asked to take over for Jon Stewart after he leaves The Daily Show, saying she didn’t feel as if the position was a right fit for the comedian.

Amy Schumer was one of the names floating about to take over for Stewart on the popular Comedy Central show. It wasn’t a stretch to think Schumer was a shoo-in to take over as host considering her long relationship with the network, including her own series, Inside Amy Schumer.

Schumer told The Daily Beast that she was offered the Daily Show hosting job but turned it down.

“I was so honored to be asked and considered,” Schumer said of the offer. “With Comedy Central, I project so much ‘You’re my parents!’ on the network and the people that run it, so them saying, ‘We believe in you and trust that you can do this,’ I thought, ‘Oh my god, thank you!’”

Amy said the excitement turned into something else the more she thought about it.

“And then I thought, ‘Well, I could give everyone I love a job and we could all be together for five years.’ But picturing being in a building and knowing what I was going to do for five years — I love not knowing,” Schumer said. “And I’ve never done anything safe or to make money for that reason. So, you know, I said, ‘I can’t start now.’”

Trevor Noah ultimately was named as Stewart’s replacement.

The New York Times reported that both Amy Poehler and Chris Rock had been approached to replace Stewart. The Times reported that Poehler gave them “the quickest no in history,” while Chris Rock told the newspaper he didn’t want to host the show after the 2016 election.

Do you think Amy Schumer would have made a great The Daily Show host?

  • ‘The Daily Show’s’ Jon Stewart: No Jokes, Talks Charleston Church Shooting

The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart became serious in a rare moment on Thursday. A somber mood overtook both the host and the show as Stewart spent five and a half minutes delivering a somber monologue about the Charleston church shooting.

“I have one job and it’s a pretty simple job,” Jon Stewart said Thursday night as he launched into his thoughts on the massacre that took place at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston. “I come in the morning and we look at the news, and I write jokes about it.”

“But I didn’t do my job today. So I apologize,” the Daily Show host continued. “I got nothing for you…because of what happened in South Carolina.”

Jon Stewart expressed his heartache and exuded a sense of despair when he looked to the coming days and what he expects will amount to ‘a largely non-response by Americans to the attack.’

He said he is baffled by “the disparity of response between when we think people that are foreign are going to kill us and us killing ourselves,” referring, of course, to the threat of Islamist extremism, both in the U.S. and abroad.

“This is a terrorist attack,” Stewart said of the Charleston shooting. “This is a violent attack on the Emanuel church in South Carolina, which is a symbol for the black community. It has stood in that part of Charleston for a hundred and some years and has been attacked viciously many times as many black churches have.”

The one time in this monologue that Jon Stewart elicited laughter from his audience came in a moment of bittersweet truth that likely hit everyone who listened to him right between the eyes. If it didn’t, then it fell on deaf ears.

“I’m confident, though, that by acknowledging it and staring into that, and seeing it for what it is–we still won’t do jack s–t,” he said.

In keeping with the somber mood of the evening, Jon Stewart segued from his monologue about the Charleston church shooting into an interview with 17-year-old Nobel peace prize-winner and human rights activist, Malala Yousafzai.

Those who follow Jon Stewart and are fans of The Daily Show no doubt realize they captured a rare segment where reality trumped humor–and Stewart slammed racism in this country–hard.

  • Samantha Bee Lauded by Jon Stewart in Lengthy Goodbye

Samantha Bee has been a correspondent on Jon Stewart’s Daily Show for 12 years, and Stewart knew that her years on the show–and the countless laughs induced by her presence–most definitely warranted a very noteworthy goodbye.

Jon Stewart said that poignant goodbye on Wednesday night. He lauded Samantha Bee with a montage of clips from her 12 years on The Daily Show.

Some of Samantha Bee’s best moments over the years included her interviews at the 2004 Republican National Convention and her coverage of Sarah Palin. Both, of course, were included in the montage.

Jon Stewart brought Samantha Bee out onto the Daily Show stage following the tribute, for a proper goodbye.

So what’s next for Samantha Bee? She’s headed off to work on a new show somewhat reminiscent of Jon Stewart’s, where she will both executive produce and serve as host. In addition, she’s working on a new scripted series with her husband, another former correspondent on The Daily Show–Jason Jones.

Samantha Bee served longer than any other correspondent on The Daily Show. She no doubt has what it takes, however, to make it on her very own show.

Fans will no doubt stay tuned to TBS–where both her hosted show and the scripted series–are set to air in the near future.

  • David Letterman: Aubrey Plaza Talks Sex With Robert De Niro

David Letterman and Aubrey Plaza both realized they have no plans for after the Late Show and Parks and Recreation come to an end. Plaza was a guest on Letterman’s show on Tuesday, and the two talked about their futures.

“I have no plan. At all,” Plaza said. “I was thinking of gaining skills–survival skills. Marksmanship, maybe.”

“What are you going to do when your show’s over?” she asked David Letterman.

“As I was asking you that question,” he admitted. “I realized I don’t have an answer either.”

Jon Stewart will take over for Letterman on the Late Show when he ends his reign.

Letterman and Plaza decided that at some point after both the Late Show and Parks and Recreation are officially done, they will do something together. And while David Letterman wouldn’t commit to any of Aubrey Plaza’s ideas–the Kentucky Derby or the symphony–he said he would, in fact, take her somewhere.

Aubrey Plaza wasn’t initially up front about her lack of future plans, however. She later divulge to David Letterman that she was to start filming on Thursday for a movie called Dirty Grandpa. The film stars Robert De Niro as the dirty grandpa, who is looking to get lucky.

“I play a girl looking for some action. … My sole purpose in the movie is to have sex with De Niro’s character,” she said.

It sounds like David Letterman isn’t going to have quite as much fun as Aubrey Plaza when his show comes to a close. The late night host hasn’t had much to say about what he actually might do, but fans are likely hard-pressed to believe he will step away from comedy–or TV–for good.

  • Jon Stewart Says America’s Enemies Are Not the X-Men

Comedian and Daily Show host Jon Stewart has a knack for simplifying things. His show is known for taking the hype and drama spun by the 24-hour “news” networks and reducing it to snips and bites that reveal what’s really going on. Jon Stewart is the kid who exposed the emperor as being naked, but that kid grew up to get a TV show.

Stewart took a break from that show back in the summer of of 2013 to go film a movie. His hiatus left John Oliver in the big chair on the Daily Show set for Comedy Central, which went on to launch Oliver’s own show, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver on HBO.

It is that film that Stewart made in his eight-week absence from his own show that is getting attention now. It is called Rosewater, and it is based on the memoir Then They Came for Me by Maziar Bahari and Aimee Molloy. After participating in an interview on The Daily Show in 2009 where he answered questions about the presidential election in Iran, Bahari was arrested and imprisoned for four months because of that interview on Stewart’s show. He was brutally interrogated by a man Bahari came to call Rosewater.

Bahari never saw his torturer. He would be blindfolded every time he was interrogated. But the man torturing him smelled like rosewater. Yet, in the film, Rosewater is not portrayed as some faceless representation of evil, but as a human. He is seen having a phone conversation with his wife. He has to deal with a pain in the ass boss.

Stewart spoke to Salon about his treatment of this torturer in the film. He says he deliberately chose to present Rosewater as human.

“Yes. Very much so. That was important for many different reasons. One is, they are human beings. So why not present them as such? You know, they’re not the X-Men. They’re not monsters, and if you’re going to battle something effectively, then to see it in a …”

Stewart trails off into a more specific application of his point. Not seeing our enemies as human is an American habit that does not serve America well.

“We have a tendency in this country, whether it be Ebola or ISIS, that whatever is the new threat becomes the new super-threat. It’s not a bug, it’s a superbug! It’s not a predator, it’s a super-predator! It’s this thing … We can’t bring prisoners from Guantánamo here because, for God’s sake, Magneto could break out of that cell. And what are we going to do then? They’ll wreak havoc throughout the land!”

Keeping with his general mission of deflating the hyperbole and rhetoric of what passes for “news channels” in America, Stewart feels that it is important for Americans to see things as they really are, not as Big Headline declares them to be.

“The general conversation between Iran and America has been this: ‘You are the axis of evil!’ … “Well, you’re the great Satan!” … So the bar has been set relatively low as far as nuance goes.”

Seeing our enemies as human is not so much about sympathizing as it is about realizing that they are beatable. And that they are not all the same, not some faceless mass of a society that all have the same opinion on topics like democracy and the West in general.

“More importantly, I wanted to portray not so much even his interrogator in that way, but that element of Iranian society, those kids and that [anti-Ahmadinejad, pro-democracy] movement as something that Westerners might look at and go, ‘Oh, you know, I had a sense of this culture as monolithic, but that’s very relatable.’ And it’s not exaggerated, it’s not unreal. That’s what is there.”

Despite his even-handed treatment of the subject, Stewart — who is Jewish — is being accused by Iran of serving Zionist interests. In Iran, the presidential election of 2009 is called “the American-Israeli sedition of 2009.”

“Jon has been directing an ultra-formulaic movie commissioned by his masters. Jon is filming Rosewater, the story of the American-Israeli sedition in 2009,” said an Iranian state TV report on Stewart’s film.

  • Jon Stewart NFL Rant A Thing Of Epic Beauty

It can be hard to inject humor the right way into topics that are gravely serious. Somehow Jon Stewart manages to do this, and do it better than most.

On Wednesday, Stewart put the embattled NFL organization on blast during a segment of his popular Comedy Central program The Daily Show.

“The National Football League used to have a good name,” quipped Stewart in reference to the league’s reputation suffering severe damage over the past few weeks.

Much of the backlash is due in large part to their poor handling of NFL players who’ve either been guilty of or stand accused of acts of domestic violence.

Of course, it must be pointed out that the majority of ongoing criticisms against the NFL and its handling of player behavior existed long before the explosive scandal involving former Baltimore Ravens player Ray Rice.

Stewart said the flip-flopping by the NFL organization on the treatment of players like Rice and Greg Hardy of the Carolina Panthers demonstrates “the kind of firm decision-making we’ve come to expect from people who don’t know what the f**k they’re doing.”

Stewart also pointed out that, not too surprisingly, the reversal in the decision on the part of the Vikings had a large part to do with the response of some of the league’s sponsors. Anheuser-Busch came out with a strongly worded response to the NFL’s handling of domestic abuse problems.

To be blunt, the money is being threatened and we all know few things will make a large organization move to do the right thing quite like lost revenue.

As for Sean Hannity’s comment that the response to the Adrian Peterson child abuse allegations would somehow snowball into laws forcing political correctness on parents, Stewart pointed out that Hannity’s “special brand of spiteful ignorance would always be legal”.

  • Hillary Clinton Drops Blatant Hints About Running

Ordinarily, when Hillary Clinton is being asked about her plans to run for president in 2016, she is very coy about the whole thing. She pivots effortlessly from talk of whether she will run or not to the kinds of problems that she would address if she, in fact, were President. And she does so without you seeing the sleight of hand.

Hillary hates the media. They have raked her over the coals many times, and she does not trust anyone to get what she says right or not twist her words. But Hillary let her guard down with Jon Stewart. He’s not one of them.

Hillary recently stopped by The Daily Show to push her new book, “Hard Choices”. Right from the top of the interview segment, Stewart got the ball rolling.

“I think I speak for everybody when I say, ‘No one cares.’ They just want to know if you are running for President.”

“Jon, I was going to make an announcement, but you kind of spoiled it,” Clinton responded with a laugh.

Stewart then proceeded to go through a series of questions with Hillary, with the comic intent of getting her to reveal if she was running. These included:

Q: Do you like commuting to work, or do you like a home office?
    A: Home office.

Q: Do you have a favorite shape for that home office? Would you like it to have corners or not to have corners?
A: I think the world is so complicated, the fewer corners you have, the better.

Q: Do you enjoy constant, non-stop criticism?
A: It sort of comes with the territory.

Stewart then stated, “It sounds to me like you have just declared that you are running for President.”

Clinton said that a “cottage industry” has sprung up around criticizing and pursuing her. Clinton has caught a lot of flack for how she worded an answer to one person and saying that she and Bill Clinton were “dead broke” when they left the White House in 2000.

  • Greta Van Susteren Criticizes Jon Stewart After Benghazi Coverage

Commentator and TV show host Greta Van Susteren is criticizing Jon Stewart after his recent comment on Fox’s Benghazi Coverage.

On The Daily Show which aired Monday night, Stewart mocked Fox for covering Benghazi, wondering why the network did not express the same outrage over Iraq War during the Bush administration. After that, Stewart stated his own opinions on the failures that happened when Bush was President.

“I commend you for finally getting in touch with your inner outrage. Because if I remember correctly, in the previous decade it was an emotion you did not seem comfortable addressing or expressing,” Stewart said on The Daily Show.

The Daily Show: Bullet Points Over Benghazi

On Tuesday, Van Susteren took the time to write on her blog about Stewart’s statements. She said that the Fox network is more aggressive about Benghazi than it was about Iraq. She also added a small note to Stewart saying, “2 wrongs don’t make a right.” Van Susteren praised Stewart for being clever and smart, but said that “like the rest of us, not always right.”

Last week, Obama administration critics were able to get hold of a controversial email. The email contained a message that the White House was seeking to put blame for the September 11, 2012 attack on the American compound in Benghazi as a reaction to an anti-Muslim video. The attack, however, was the result of a policy failure on the part of the administration.

Fox News reports on the Benghazi cover up.

Clips from Fox News were repeatedly shown. The news anchors from the network were slamming the email, and Stewart said that the Obama administration went to great lengths and made a “deplorable” decision to turn the story.

After the release of the email, House Speaker John Boehner made an announcement of plans to form a committee that will be dedicated to investigating the attack.

  • Greta Van Susteren Says Jon Stewart Is Smart, Clever, Not Always Right

Greta Van Susteren took to her blog this week to address a recent episode of The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, saying that although she thinks he’s a smart guy, he’s not always right.

Stewart’s take on Fox News–specifically their opinion on Benghazi intelligence failures under President Obama’s rule versus those that occurred when George W. Bush was in office–led to Susteren calling him out, saying that “two wrongs don’t make a right”.

“Last night Jon Stewart opened his show with a segment about Fox News Channel’s aggressive coverage of Benghazi. Stewart’s criticism of Fox News Channel is that Fox News Channel is more aggressive about President Obama and Benghazi than it ever was about President Bush and Iraq. Besides the obvious — that almost all the Democrats in Congress voted for the war in Iraq and other media reporting – my simple note to Stewart is: 2 wrongs don’t make a right,” she wrote.

Stewart will often call out Fox News for their choice of coverage, particularly when he feels the anchors are being a bit hypocritical in their outrage.

“I commend you for finally getting in touch with your inner outrage. Because if I remember correctly, in the previous decade it was an emotion you did not seem comfortable addressing or expressing,” he said.

Van Susteren’s response has triggered a reaction on social media, particularly on Twitter.

As of Wednesday, Stewart has yet to respond.

  • Don Rickles to Get Tribute from Jimmy Kimmel, Jerry Seinfeld, Bob Newhart

Don Rickles will get an all-star tribute from an impressive lineup of comedic celebrities such as Jimmy Kimmel, Bob Newhart, and Jerry Seinfeld next month. Robert De Niro, David Letterman, Tracy Morgan, Regis Philbin, Ray Romano, Martin Scorsese, John Stamos, and Jon Stewart are also slated to appear at the event.

The 90-minute tribute titled One Night Only: An All-Star Comedy Tribute to Don Rickles will be taped on May 6 at the Apollo Theater, a New York City landmark located in Harlem. The show will air May 28 on Spike Network.

“The genius of Rickles is in the danger, nobody is safe, and what you can expect is a night of comedy from these superstars worthy of a legend. It truly will be One Night Only,” said Casey Patterson, Executive Producer and Executive Vice President, Event Production & Talent Development, Viacom Entertainment Group, which owns Spike.

Rickles, a native of Queens, will turn 88 on May 8.

Often referred to as the “Merchant of Venom” or “Mr. Warmth,” Rickles is considered comedy’s master of the insult.

Early on, Rickles abandoned his dreams of becoming a serious actor to hone his nightclub act. In 1957, Frank Sinatra saw the act at Slate Brothers in Los Angeles and quickly became Rickles’ champion.

It wasn’t long before Rickles had caught the attention of Dean Martin and Johnny Carson and was headlining performances in Las Vegas.

”My humor is so over the top you’d have to be an awful fool to think I’m embarrassing you,” Rickles said in a 1996 interview with The New York Times. ”When I pick someone from the audience, their eyes say, ‘I can take it.’ But if I’m wrong, I’ll never let them know it. When you sell yourself you just can’t back down. I absolutely believe that. You’ve got to stay with what got you to the dance. It’s an old expression but true.”

Rickles and his wife Barbara celebrated their 49th anniversary in March. They’re the parents of two children, Larry and Mindy. Mindy followed in her father’s comedic footsteps.

One Night Only is a relatively new annual event on Spike. The first installment, which aired in 2012 and paid tribute to Eddie Murphy, remains the highest rated show in the network’s history.

  • Jon Stewart Compares CNN To Old Man With Metal Detector

Jon Stewart doesn’t mince words when it comes time to take on the media, particularly with news channels and their coverage of certain topics. In the case of flight 370, outlets like CNN went to the extreme in reporting and ended up looking like an old man with a metal detector on the beach, sure he’s found treasure when all that’s buried is a soda can pop-top.

The mystery of what happened to Malaysian Airlines flight 370 has only deepened over the past several weeks, and the families and friends of the victims have been left with more questions than answers. The constant media coverage has led to quite a bit of misinformation, which Stewart skewers in his report.

Several countries have contributed to the search over the Indian Ocean, but scores of trash and debris unrelated to the plane have dotted satellites and given false hope to those waiting for word about where it ended up.

  • Jon Stewart Expected More From New Jersey, Chris Christie

Daily Show host Jon Stewart is upset about the recent “Bridgeghazi” or “Bridgegate” scandal, but probably not for why you would think.

You may recall hearing recently about how New Jersey governor Chris Christie was allegedly behind the cause of some serious traffic issues for residents of Fort Lee, NJ, by ordering two lanes of the George Washington Bridge to shut down. He apparently did this in attempt to inflict revenge on Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich for not endorsing him for re-election.

Much to Christie’s dismay, emails were released that delve into details of the plan, and pretty much show the governor’s involvement.

The result? Traffic was backed up for days, and many of those involved in the scandal have lost their jobs. The worst part is that emergency personnel had issues reaching those who needed their aid because of the traffic jams. One woman even lost her life.

But these reasons are not why funnyman Stewart is angry about the scandal. No, the Jersey boy is upset about just how obvious those involved in the scandal went about making their plans.

“As a guy who grew up in New Jersey, I’m disappointed, I’m ashamed of the state I grew up in,” he said on his show. “Planning this over email, with non-coded email? You oughta be ashamed of yourself!”

Stewart said the way he would’ve handled the business goes a little something like this:

“Hey, did you take care of that thing?’ ‘Yeah, that thing? Yeah, I took care of that thing. Yeah, our good friend Lee? Yeah, he’s constipated, all right. … he’s gonna be all backed up.”

Stewart believes the storied history of his state, one that involves much corruption, should’ve played a role into how Christie’s team went about executing the scandal.

“Have you seen our state flag?” he exclaimed, speaking of how it features a horse’s head on the crest of a helmet. “There is literally a severed horse’s head on the state flag! That sends a message to every other state in the union.”

  • Jon Stewart Addresses The “Duck Dynasty” Controversy

Jon Stewart isn’t one to keep his opinions to himself when it comes to a controversy on television, so it was fairly inevitable that he’d have something to say about Phil Robertson’s comments on homosexuality, which appeared in a recent issue of GQ.

Robertson, one of the stars of the breakout hit “Duck Dynasty”, expressed his views on several things in the interview and said, in part, “It seems like, to me, a vagina — as a man — would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical…start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.”

The comments have gotten him suspended indefinitely from the show and A&E has apologized to viewers; however, Stewart takes issue with that. Although he disagrees wholeheartedly with Robertson’s views, he doesn’t believe the situation was handled correctly.

“I don’t actually watch Duck Dynasty,” Stewart said, “and I had assumed it was a show where ducks reenact the show Dynasty — which, by the way, would have a huge gay audience. But I also have an inclination to support a world where saying ignorant shit on television doesn’t get you kicked off that medium. I guess I stand with the free speech absolutists at Fox News, who don’t believe you should have to adhere to the culture norms of speech…mostly.”

Jon Stewart has had a field day with Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly’s proclamation that Santa Claus is, definitively, a white man, and now he’s issued an apology for taking her words and running with them.

When blogger Aisha Harris wrote last week about how difficult it was to see a white Santa as a child–and suggested that perhaps America should move towards a different icon for the holidays rather than a Caucasian man, such as a penguin–Fox News decided to debate the topic. But for Megyn Kelly, the answer was clear.

“By the way, for you kids watching at home, Santa just is white. But this person is arguing that maybe we should also have a black Santa,” Kelly said. ” But you know, Santa is what he is, and just so you know, we’re just debating this because someone wrote about it, kids.”

That comment started a huge buzz online, where social media blew up with comments about Fox News and about Kelly. Stewart fired back by saying, “Who are you actually talking to? Children who are sophisticated enough to be watching a news channel at 10 o’clock at night. Yet innocent enough to still believe that Santa Claus is real. Yet racist enough to be freaked out if he isn’t white. Yes, West Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.”

Kelly says her statements were meant as a joke, but Stewart wasn’t buying it, given Fox News’ history.

“I guess we all owe you an apology,” Stewart said. “What appeared to me to be another example of a Fox News segment expressing anger and victimization over the loss of absolute power and reframing that as persecution of ‘real America’ by minorities, freeloaders, and socialists — that’s trademarked, by the way. What I thought was that was a jest, a jape, a bit of wise-crackery.”

  • Creator Of ‘The Square,’ Netflix’s First Major Documentary, Was On The Daily Show

Jehane Noujaim, the documentarian behind The Square, appeared on The Daily Show this week in an interview with Jon Stewart:

Netflix announced last month that it had acquired the film about the protests in Tahrir Square in 2011, calling it its first major documentary.

The film has been getting some Oscar buzz, so it might help pad Netflix’s virtual trophy case (which may also include some People’s Choice Awards and Writers Guild Awards). Netflix’s House of Cards recently won three Emmys.

The Square will be available on Netflix in select cities (New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington DC and Boston) on January 17th as the film plays in theaters.

The Short Game, another recent high profile documentary acquisition made by Netflix, will be available on December 12th.

  • Jon Stewart Calls Out Toronto’s Rob Ford

Jon Stewart Calls Out Toronto’s Rob Ford

Jon Stewart of the Daily Show put on a hilarious display this week, calling out Toronto’s Mayor Rob Ford, and his recent crude references to oral sex during a press conference. No one but Jon Stewart could pull off a report like this–replete with comedic facial expressions and deadpan dramatic pauses. It’s what he is best know and loved for.

In a hilarious clip, now referred to as Throw Down the Mic, Stewart has no doubt left people all around the United States–and likely in Canada, too–in stitches over the debacle that is Toronto Mayor Rob Ford. On his show, he prefaced it by urging parents to call their children to the TV.

“You might want to go right now and wake them up and bring them downstairs. And gather them around the television set. It’s more important than school,” he said.

Of course he wasn’t serious. Any parents who followed his command either don’t get the gist of Stewart’s show, or require a serious psychiatric evaluation.

Twitter followers responded to Stewart’s report–urging others to check it out.

While it’s absolutely unfathomable to imagine someone like Rob Ford in the mayor’s office in a city like Toronto, comedians all over the world are no doubt reveling in his crude faux pas. For those still harboring some concern about the fair Canadian city, do note that Ford was voted out of office this past week.

If the world must, on occasion, deal with abominations like former Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, at least people like Jon Stewart offer deep sighs of comic relief. It’s quite likely that late night TV and other big name comics will follow suit as well.

  • John Stewart Gets Pizza from Chicago Mayor Emanuel

John Stewart is in deep (dish) trouble in Chicago. After his Chicago-focused rant on Wednesday night’s “Daily Show“, he may have lost numerous viewers from the Windy City. His rant was in response to the anger surrounding the decision to name the new One World Trade Center the tallest building in America, over the current title holder, Chicago’s Willis Tower, according to CBS.

Stewart’s rant lasted over 6 minutes and made fun of Chicago’s homicide rate, Chicago’s weather and Chicago style hot dogs, but in all fairness, Chicago started it, according to the New York Post, by going and insulting New York’s famous thin crust pizza. Watch the hilarious ranting:

He began his rant by insulting Chicago’s famous deep dish pizza. “Deep dish pizza is not only not better than New York pizza, it’s not pizza.” It went downhill from there. He called it “[expletive] casserole,” “a cornbread biscuit,” and “tomato soup in a bread bowl.”

Nice. Unfortunately, it doesn’t stop there. There’s also this wordy jewel, “When I look at your deep dish (expletive) pizza, I don’t know whether to eat it or throw a coin in it and make a wish,” Stewart said. “And if I made a wish, it would be that I’d wish for some real (expletive) pizza.”

He screams, “It’s a cornbread biscuit which you’ve melted cheese on and then — in defiance of God and man and all things holy — you poured uncooked marinara sauce atop the cheese. Atop! The sauce, naked, cold on display like some sort of sauce whore!”

In response to Stewart’s rant, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel had a little jab of his own.

So the tower thing has come to blows. We shall see how this plays out! Who do you think will win the war of the cities?
