Katy Perry and John Mayer were together for more than a year, and now that the relationship has hit the rocks, Perry says she’s gotten pretty deep into art appreciation.
The pop star says she’s gradually going to become an art collector and has been perusing pieces that she might be interested in lately.
“I’m going to slowly become an art collector,” Perry said. “Today, we had an all-day art crawl. We got to see some private collections from some people’s homes and then we went to a couple of galleries.”
Perry has always incorporated creativity into her stage shows–including candy-inspired outfits and set designs–and says she’s drawn to pop art but is also a fan of photography.
“What I’m really drawn to is modern contemporary art and pop art, of course,” she said. “Also some key photography. I’ve always loved Cindy Sherman and today I got interested in Lee Friedlander … This is all brand new. I’m really interested in having an art history education.”
Perry and Mayer collaborated together on the song “Who You Love” for his latest album, Paradise Valley, and Perry said she was a huge fan of his before they even met so the pairing seemed like a natural progression. Their breakup was widely speculated upon, however, after she was spotted on a solo trip to London and Milan.
“I’ve been such a fan, I think he’s so incredibly talented and gifted and a genius songwriter. So to be a part of anything he was doing was just natural,” she said.
