You can expect Ridley to remain one of the top stars in years to come, as there is now no more highly-anticipated film than the next Star Wars. She’s already predicted another hit, saying the script is “very good.”
Ridley’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens character Rey has been the subject of some recent online back-and-forth, between some who think she is too perfect of a character – too strong and too talented in the film to be believable – and those who think that is nonsense.
I don’t know about you, but Ridley herself is pretty damn strong:
John Boyega and his costar Daisy Ridley walked the red carpet in Shanghai, China on Sunday for the Star Wars: The Force Awakens premiere. Director J.J. Abrams joined the actors.
Looking dashing in his maroon suit with satin lapels, John Boyega plays the role of Finn in the new Star Wars film. The handsome 23-year-old no doubt loved walking the red carpet alongside his beautiful costar Daisy Ridley, who wore a deep purple Jason Wu sleeveless gown. Ridley, who plays the role of Rey in the new film, accented her look with Meira T jewelry and a Tyler Alexandra clutch. She paired her gown with sexy Jimmy Choo shoes.
Both John Boyega and Daisy Ridley posed on the red carpet with a new Star Wars icon, a roly-poly droid called BB-8, as well as the classic robot R2-D2.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens, starring Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, and more boasts the biggest Christmas film opening ever, and in the days after Christmas has officially hit the $1 billion mark.
Have you checked out the new Star Wars film yet? What do you think of some of the new characters, including those played by John Boyega and Daisy Ridley?
Daisy Ridley isn’t quite as brave as Rey, the character she plays in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In fact, she had to overcome some fears in order to play the role.
Rey is a pilot and a scavenger in the latest Star Wars installment, and she’s the first person Daisy Ridley has portrayed on the big screen. The 23-year-old talked about the fears that initially stood in her way when she was cast in the film.
“It’s one thing for other people to see potential in you, and it’s quite another for you to understand that and see it in yourself,” Daisy Ridley told the Associated Press. “So of course everyone else being wonderful helps, but there’s a certain level of growth and stuff you have to do as a person. It’s just like life times a million.”
Ridley underwent months of physical training to prepare to play Rey. Her regimen included weight lifting, climbing, and even staff training–running and fighting with a staff.
“I had to look like I could look after myself in the desert and dragging and scavenging things across sand,” she said.
“Luckily, to have J.J. there, who is so kind and considerate and encouraging, and to have a crew of people who made me feel safe and not rushed and not pressured, that is precisely what took the pressure off,” she explained.
Ridley bonded with fellow Star Wars star John Boyega, too, and that helped allay some of her fears.
“We got on so well,” Ridley said. “It was so much fun all the time, and to have him with me through this whole thing, both in filming and afterward, has been incredible.”
Have you see Star Wars: The Force Awakens yet? If so, can you believe Daisy Ridley had to overcome fears to play Rey?
That certainly doesn’t translate to the big screen–does it?
John Boyega plays the role of Finn inStar Wars: The Force Awakens. During a recent interview the London-born actor recalls taking Harrison Ford out for dinner–for Nigerian food.
It was a little over a year ago, but the way John Boyega relives the scenario, one can almost picture Harrison Ford there.
The Nigerian restaurant is located beneath a block of flats in London. It doesn’t sound like it’s a particularly fancy place.
“I took him to a Nigerian restaurant in south east London, he walked up into that place like he was Nigerian,” John Boyega explains.
“He does walk too slow into restaurants. Harrison, you just have to walk in and go straight to the table, that’s the thing.
“You don’t have to (at this point, John Boyega impersonates the 73-year-old) ‘look around and see who’s here, and do they notice I’m Harrison Ford?’”
“You don’t always have to take the cheque Harrison. We know you’re rich, we know you’ve got nine planes, but let me pay for it sometimes!”
“Literally, we just had Nigerian food,” Boyega continued.
“People always said ‘when you meet Harrison, he’s casual, he’s laid back’. And he’s all those things, he is, but at the same time, he knows who he is.
“He knows that he’s Indiana Jones, he knows that he’s Han Solo, so that’s why when we walked into an environment where people didn’t expect him there he walks in slow motion. So they can take it in,” John Boyega concluded.
The restaurant owner recently dished about John Boyega bringing Harrison Ford in for dinner.
“Someone came out the back to see me and was like ‘Harrison Ford’s here’ and I didn’t believe it,” he told The Guardian.
“Staff were asking each other, are we absolutely sure that’s him?’”
“You just would never expect it so it took a few minutes to work out if it was really him. Seeing someone out of context, it’s hard for it to sink in, you know,” the owner added.
The next time John Boyega goes to dine on Nigerian food, restaurant staff and patrons will likely be starstruck over his presence, in light of his role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Daisy Ridley says she is not that into social media.
Unlike most starlets of her age, the 23-year-old British actress does not like to go to social media to share her life, saying that she has been turned off by the negativity and trolling that is all too common on the internet today.
“I kind of loathe to go on social media. I find the trolling unacceptable and I never wanted to look like I was someone who would accept that,” Daisy Ridley recently admitted to Refinery29. “But the 99 — no, I would actually say 100% of the people [who’ve interacted with me on social media] have been so wonderful so far.”
She added, “My life is real average, and it’s nice to share that with people. And to see people’s conspiracies and their theories, that’s fun. It’s really fun to be part of.”
Meanwhile, the Star Wars: The Force Awakens star shared a cute moment on stage with her costar John Boyega during the much-anticipated premiere held Friday night at the Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay Hotel in Urayasu, Japan.
The two actors were joined by co-stars Adam Driver, BB-8 and director J.J. Abrams for the opening of the film that is expected to earn billions of dollars for Disney and LucasFilms.
According to Just Jared, Jr., Daisy Ridley was a gracious star and took some time to take a photo or two with fans when she arrived back stateside at LAX airport in Los Angeles.
Daisy Ridley is only one of the promising new young actors in the new Star Wars movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Anyone who watched the highly anticipated new trailer on Monday night now knows that Daisy Ridley is on the road to be an absolute stand out in the field.
Daisy Ridley joins some Hollywood heavy-hitters for the new Star Wars movie, and from what we can tell, is just as blown away about what the movie has become.
For the pleasure of all those following the movie’s progress, Daisy Ridley and fellow newcomer John Boyega posted their reactions to the new trailer to Instagram.
It was so, so great. In fact, one might say that Daisy Ridley and John Boyega’s reactions were likely similar to many a super fan.
A treatment for the opening scenes of Star Wars: Episode VII has apparently leaked, along with plot details involving confirmed cast members John Boyega and Daisy Ridley. Be warned of a potential spoiler alert, though it might be advisable to take any leaked intel with a grain of salt.
Boyega’s character is described as a non-cloned (or cloned from a different template than Jango Fett) stormtrooper who goes empire-AWOL and aligns with Daisy Ridley’s character.
The leaked plot points were referred to Badass Digest:
Imagine the standard Star Wars crawl, and when it ends the camera pans up to the stars. But instead of a spaceship zooming into frame we see … a hand! A severed hand, tumbling through space. A severed hand gripping a light saber.
That hand falls onto a desert planet, [Ed.- they later said this is NOT Tatooine] where it is discovered by characters who will be our heroes. One is Daisy Ridley. The other is John Boyega, who is playing someone trying to change his path in life (again, I’m keeping it vague here). They recognize the light saber as a Jedi relic and decide to return it to the proper people.
Their quest takes them off world, and they meet up with Han Solo and Chewbacca, who aren’t flying around in the Millenium Falcon anymore but are piloting… well, that could be a spoiler. I’ll leave it. Anyway, Han and Chewie recognize the light saber as Luke’s, and they say they haven’t seen their friend in thirty years, since the events of Return of the Jedi.
So begins a quest to find the missing Jedi Master. Meanwhile, on an ice planet, nefarious forces are building a super weapon, one capable of destroying not planets but entire solar systems.
How would an old, filthy, dead hand survive an atmospheric entry? Though, disembodied body parts do work as plot devices at times, as seen in David Lynch’s Blue Velvet:
Perhaps the leak was planted to excite fans, much like when it was rumored that Kevin Smith was hired by Warner Bros. to pen a fake screenplay to be intentionally released for the upcoming Batman vs. Superman movie.
What has been confirmed is that Episode VII will feature an X-Wing with blue paint:
