  • Jessica Mendoza Gets An Apology, MLB’s First Female Analyst Victim Of Sexist Twitter Attack

Atlanta sports radio host, Mike Bell, apologized to Jessica Mendoza after his sexist comment on Twitter about her position as a Major League Baseball analyst.

“What I said was hurtful and I wanna [sic] take this opportunity to say to Jessica that what I said was dumb, and there’s just no place for it, and I apologize for putting that garbage on Twitter,” Bell said.

Last Tuesday, Mendoza made history as the first female analyst for MLB. And unlike other analysts who were bashed because of their style or opinion, Mendoza was criticized because of her gender.

Bell said in his post, “Really? A women’s softball slugger as guest analyst on MLB Wildcard Game? Once again ESPN too frigging cute for their own good.” He then followed another post saying, “You guys are telling me there isn’t a more qualified Baseball player ESPN can use than a softball player? Gimme a break!”

Mendoza said she saw the posts but chose to ignore the insults. Meanwhile, Bell was suspended from his daily radio show The Game on 92.9 for two weeks. “I accept his apology,” Jessica Mendoza said. “To me, it really was about the fact that he came after me because I was a woman.” “I feel very confident… I’m looking forward to the future,” she continued.

This was not the first time Mendoza received negative feedback for being a female sports analyst.

She was also bashed for being the first woman in the booth for an ESPN MLB broadcast during a match-up between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the St. Louis Cardinals in August.

Despite the backlash she got from other viewers, a lot of people offered positive comments to Mendoza. ESPN stated that it would continue to support her as well.

Jessica Mendoza, on the other hand, said that she’s looking forward to the day when women would be judged for their qualifications and not their gender.

“Yes, I am a female, but I want it to get to the point where, let’s think about what I am saying, what I am doing, and not so much the sex that I am,” Mendoza said.

  • Jessica Mendoza Replaces Curt Schilling on ESPN

Jessica Mendoza is replacing Curt Schilling, reporting baseball on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball for the remainder of the season. A two-time Olympic medalist and a Women’s Sports Foundation Sportswoman of the Year, Jessica Mendoza is also a member of the International Latin Sports Hall of Fame. Fans might have missed hearing her as a baseball announcer, however, had it not been for Curt Schilling’s recent comparison of Muslims to Nazis, in a Tweet that got him suspended for the rest of the baseball season. Schillings defense of said Tweets didn’t help him out any either.

Jessica Mendoza actually went on to make history as a baseball reporter when she announced the Cardinals-Dodgers game on August 24th.

“I was nervous,” Jessica Mendozan said in a recent interview with the New York Times. “I definitely tried to prepare as if I’d done it a million times so it wouldn’t seem like anything unique. My heart was pumping in the first inning like it was in the first inning of an Olympic game. But after that first at-bat–boom! It felt comfortable.”

Curt Schilling was impressed enough to compliment his ESPN fill in.

“Jessica Mendoza is a pro, I don’t care that she got to hit a ball twice the size of ours,” he wrote. “She is likely the greatest hitter in the history of Womens Fastpitch.

Do you think ESPN will allow Curt Schilling to resume his position once his suspension has ended?

Is there any chance that Jessica Mendoza might become his permanent replacement?

Kristen Bell Makes Touching Gesture To ‘Frozen’ Fan Suffering With Brain Tumor

Thanks to Frozen voice actress Kristen Bell, what started as another day of radiation therapy ended with probably one of the best moments of little Avery Huffman’s life.

Huffman is a 6-year-old girl diagnosed with DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma), an inoperable brain tumor which has caused her a lot of suffering at a very young age.

Bell learned of Huffman’s story through a friend of her father’s and decided to give the young Frozen fan a special gift: to be an honorary princess of the kingdom of “Arendelle”.

Brandon Huffman, Avery’s dad, emphasized his daughter’s fondness of the Disney animated movie. “Like roughly 93% of all little girls in the United States, Avery loved the movie Frozen,” he wrote. He also shared that both he and his daughter had watched or heard Frozen over 200 times and had sung duets to songs from the movie like “Love is an Open Door.”

Disguised as Frozen’s Anna, Bell delivered the young Frozen fan a heartfelt voice message. In her message, Bell included special details about Huffman such as her favorite toy and the names of each of her siblings.

Huffman was especially thrilled when Anna bestowed upon her the title of honorary princess of Arendelle, the kingdom ruled by Queen Elsa.

The proclamation, according to Bell, was a reward for Huffman being “brave” and being the “good girl” that she is.

Bell’s gesture was met with high praise and gratitude, especially from Huffman’s father.

“Despite being incredibly busy, Kristen Bell took the time to make a little 6-year old girl’s day. It was awesome for Avery and us, and emotional for us as well,” said Mr. Huffman.
