  • Drew Barrymore: Half-Sister Jessica Barrymore Died of Accidental Overdose

Drew Barrymore received word in late July that her half-sister Jessica Barrymore had died. It has now been determined that the forty-seven year old died of an accidental drug overdose. Jessica was found dead in her car outside of San Diego on July 29th. Pills were scattered within the car’s interior.

According to a report from the San Diego Coroner’s Office, Jessica Barrymore died of ‘acute intoxication.’ She had methamphetamine, methadone, tramadol and nordiazepam–as well as alcohol–in her bloodstream at the time of her death.

Drew Barrymore and Jessica Barrymore shared a biological father–John Barrymore. Jessica’s mother is Nina Wayne.

Drew Barrymore didn’t know her half-sister personally.

“Although I only met her briefly, I wish her and her loved ones as much peace as possible, and I’m so incredibly sorry for their loss,” she told the media.

Drew Barrymore recently gave birth to her second daughter, Frankie, this past April. Daughter Olive is almost two. How sad that her she and her half-sister didn’t have a relationship and that Jessica never got to know Drew’s daughters.

Jessica Barrymore didn’t enjoy the kind of fame and fortune that half-sister Drew Barrymore lives. Instead she worked at a pet supply store in the San Diego area. It’s uncertain whether her drug and alcohol issues stood in the way of her finding Hollywood success or not–or whether it was ever an interest or possibility. Family dynamics can often play bizarre roles in how people turn out. It might be interesting to delve into what those were for both Jessica and Drew Barrymore.

  • Drew Barrymore’s Half-Sister, Jessica Barrymore, Died From an Accidental Overdose

The death of Drew Barrymore‘s half-sister, Jessica Barrymore, has been ruled an accidental drug overdose.

The 47-year-old was found dead in her car on a street in National City, California, near San Diego, on July 29, allegedly with dozens of white pills scattered on the passenger seat.

According to the San Diego Coroner’s Office, Jessica died of acute intoxication, and had alcohol, methamphetamine, methadone, tramadol and nordiazepam in her system at the time of death.

Jessica is the daughter of John Barrymore and Nina Wayne.

“Although I only met her briefly, I wish her and her loved ones as much peace as possible, and I’m so incredibly sorry for their loss,” Drew said in a statement to E! News after Jessica’s death.

According to local ABC affiliate 10News, police were called to the scene by Jessica’s neighbor, Marta Lopez, who told police she couldn’t get to work because Jessica’s Toyota Camry was blocking her driveway.

Another neighbor, Oscar Sandoval, told 10News Jessica’s car hadn’t moved since “around midnight” the evening before, explaining, “I thought she was sleeping or waiting for someone.”

Jessica apparently worked at a Petco animal supply store in the area.

“Jessica was always a helpful person,” her friend and co-worker Dawn Scott told 10News. “If we had any problems she would help us work things out. She would always put people first… She was one awesome, helpful person and she’s someone we’re all going to miss.”

“Jessica always had a positive attitude at work, great with customers, us and animals,” said Dawn Vaughn, a former Petco co-worker. “Awesome sense of humor and always had a smile for you, very generous in heart and spirit. This world lost a wonderful human being for sure.”

  • Drew Barrymore’s Sister Given Official Cause Of Death

Drew Barrymore’s half-sister, Jessica, was found dead in her car last month of a suspected suicide, and now a coroner has released an official cause of death.

Barrymore, 47, had a mixture of methamphetamine, alcohol, methadone, tramadol and nordiazepam in her system when she died, but the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office says it was likely an accidental overdose. She was Drew Barrymore’s half sister through their father, John, and had different mothers. Drew released a statement after Jessica’s death, saying the two of them had only met once.

“Although I only met her briefly, I wish her and her loved ones as much peace as possible and I’m so incredibly sorry for their loss,” the actress said.

John Barrymore had four children, but Drew reportedly has had a rocky past with her family and it’s not clear how close she was with her siblings. He died in 2004 after a battle with cancer, but the actress made sure he was taken care of while he was sick even though they were estranged for years before that. She said in January of this year that her famously difficult relationship with her mother, Jaid, had come to an impasse.

“I’ve always been empathetic toward my mom, and I was even more so when I had a kid and we had a really amazing conversation about it. However, [becoming a mom] hasn’t enabled me to lessen the distance. It’s the hardest subject in my life. I’ve never just been angry with her. I’ve always felt guilt and empathy and utter sensitivity. But we can’t really be in each other’s lives at this point,” she said in a Marie Claire interview.

  • Drew Barrymore’s Half-Sister Found Dead

Drew Barrymore’s half-sister was found dead in her car on Tuesday. Her neighbor Marta Lopez was trying to leave for work when she noticed a car was blocking her driveway.

She approached the car and found a woman inside. She said that the woman was reclined back in the seat and had an energy drink between her legs. Lopez asked the woman if she needed help several times and when she didn’t respond Lopez took a closer look to see if the woman was breathing.

She noticed that she was not breathing and saw a pile of pills on the seat next to the woman. She called the police.

Another witness had seen the car parked in the same location the night before Lopez found it. The witness said that he just thought the woman was waiting for someone.

The San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that the woman in the car was Jessica Barrymore, daughter of John Barrymore.

Drew Barrymore released a statement about her half-sister’s death.

“Although I only met her briefly, I wish her and her loved ones as much peace as possible and I’m so incredibly sorry for their loss,” she said on Wednesday.

Unlike her famous family, Jessica Barrymore had lived a simple life and worked at a Petco where she was well-liked.

Two of her coworkers spoke fondly of her after learning of her death.

“Jessica was always a helpful person,” friend and co-worker Dawn Scott said. “If we had any problems she would help us work things out. She would always put people first… She was one awesome, helpful person and she’s someone we’re all going to miss.”

“Jessica always had a positive attitude at work, great with customers, us and animals,” said Dawn Vaughn, a former co-worker. “Awesome sense of humor and always had a smile for you, very generous in heart and spirit. This world lost a wonderful human being for sure.”

  • Drew Barrymore Releases Statement On Sister’s Suicide

Drew Barrymore has released a statement regarding the suspected suicide death of her half-sister, Jessica, saying the two of them didn’t know each other very well.

Jessica Barrymore was found dead in her car on Tuesday, just two days before her birthday, and authorities believe she took her own life after they found bottles of pills in her possession. Her body was discovered after she parked in front of a neighbor’s house, partially blocking the driveway.

“Although I only met her briefly, I wish her and her loved ones as much peace as possible and I’m so incredibly sorry for their loss,” Drew Barrymore said.

Barrymore’s father, John, was married four times and had a total of four children, but it’s not clear how close Drew is with her siblings. He died in 2004 after a battle with cancer, but had been estranged from Drew before that. His half-sister Diana also died of a suspected overdose of alcohol and sleeping pills.

Drew Barrymore has had a famously rocky relationship with both parents throughout the years and has spoken openly about being allowed to party with the adults when she was just a child due to her television and film career. After struggling with drugs and alcohol in her teen years, she moved on to a hugely successful acting and producing career and is now happily married and the mother of two children. After reconciling with her mom, Drew said in January of this year that their relationship is just too complicated.

Our condolences to Drew and Jessica’s family at this difficult time.
