  • Jayne Mansfield And Sophia Loren’s Iconic Photo Explained!

It’s one of the most iconic old Hollywood photos of all time – Sophia Loren and Jayne Mansfield sitting at a dinner table, with Loren eyeing Mansfield’s risqué dress and exposed nipple. Loren, now 80 years old, finally talked about what was going on in the photograph. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she discussed the events that led to the famous photo.

“Paramount had organized a party for me. All of cinema was there, it was incredible. And then comes in Jayne Mansfield, the last one to come. For me, that was when it got amazing,” Loren said.

Loren continued, “She came right for my table. She knew everyone was watching. She sat down. And now, she was barely… Listen. Look at the picture. Where are my eyes? I’m staring at her nipples because I am afraid they are about to come onto my plate. In my face you can see the fear. I’m so frightened that everything in her dress is going to blow — BOOM! — and spill all over the table.”

The party happened back in 1957 and was thrown to welcome Loren to Hollywood. It was also the same year when she starred in one of her earliest Hollywood films, The Pride and The Passion. She was 22 years old, while Mansfield was about to turn 24.

Mansfield was a popular sex symbol at the time, and when she arrived at the party, she clearly upstaged the Italian film star.

While the photo was the most famous photograph of Loren and Mansfield together, Loren refuses to sign any autographs on it. She discussed her reasons for not signing it in her memoir Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow: My Life which was released on November 4. In it she says, “I refused to autograph it. Hidden behind Hollywood’s enchanted kingdom were some coarse and grotesque sides, which I refused to have anything to do with.”

  • Sophia Loren Explains Why Jayne Mansfield’s Nipples Caused the Side-Eye Picture

In 1957, Sophia Loren gave Jayne Mansfield a serious judgmental side-eye. A picture of that incident became almost as iconic as the two women.

Loren reveals a lot about her life in her memoirs, Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow: My Life, which was just released this Tuesday. To help promote the book, and her AFI Fest tribute, she spoke to Entertainment Weekly.

Entertainment Weekly did a phone interview with Loren from her Switzerland home. The photo was among the topics of discussion.

Loren revealed that a party was thrown to welcome her to Hollywood. Loren, then 22-years-old, had just starred in The Pride and the Passions. This film was one of the Italian beauty’s first American movies.

She told EW that, “Paramount had organized a party for me. All of cinema was there, it was incredible. And then comes in Jayne Mansfield, the last one to come. For me, that was when it got amazing,” said Loren.

Loren continued by saying, “She [Mansfield] came right for my table. She knew everyone was watching. She sat down. And now, she was barely… Listen. Look at the picture. Where are my eyes? I’m staring at her nipples because I am afraid they are about to come onto my plate. In my face you can see the fear. I’m so frightened that everything in her dress is going to blow—BOOM!—and spill all over the table.” EW also asked Loren about the other pictures showing them laughing and having fun. She dismissed those photos and said, “This is the one that shows how it was. This is the only picture.”

The American Film Institute honors Loren at the AFI Fest in Hollywood on November 12.

  • Jayne Mansfield Side-Eye: Sophia Loren Explains

Jayne Mansfield and Sophia Loren share one of the most iconic and hilarious photos of a bygone era in Hollywood glamour.

In the photo, Loren is giving Jayne Mansfield’s barely-contained assets a leery side-eye glance.

The look on her face; it’s just so great!

We have seen some serious shade-throwing from Jayne Mansfield and Sophia Loren’s modern counterparts, but nothing quite this amazing.

The look on her face, well, it just says it all. The message, Sophia Loren admits, is as clear as can be.

She told Entertainment Weekly about the fateful night the photo was taken. Loren was at one of her first Hollywood parties, meant to be her “baptism” into Hollywood culture.

The party was going well, but it was only when Jayne Mansfield entered the scene that things got real.

“She came right for my table. She knew everyone was watching. She sat down.”

She continued, “And now, she was barely… Listen. Look at the picture. Where are my eyes? I’m staring at her nipples because I am afraid they are about to come onto my plate. In my face you can see the fear. I’m so frightened that everything in her dress is going to blow—BOOM!—and spill all over the table.”

You really can see the fear!

However, while this photo is one of the most famous of Sophia Loren and it is the go-to when fans ask for an autograph, she doesn’t out of respect for Jayne Mansfield.

“Actually, many, many times I am given this photo to autograph it. And I never do. I don’t want to have anything to do with that. And also out of respect for Jayne Mansfield because she’s not with us anymore.”

  • Mariska Hargitay Looks Just Like Mom Jayne Mansfield

It’s uncanny how much Mariska Hargitay looks like her mother, 1950s actress and sex-symbol Jayne Mansfield.

It’s clear that Hargitay is missing her mother as Mother’s Day approaches. She’s always made a point of posting pics of her mom on Instagram, but a recent split photo on Instagram reveals just how much she looks like her late mother.

She also posted a old snapshot of Mansfield posing in a sombrero with two small dogs wearing matching hats for Cinco de Mayo.

Jayne Mansfield tragically died in a car accident when she was only 34 years old, while 3-year-old Hargitay slept in the back seat of the car.

Hargitay said in a Redbook interview that she doesn’t remember the accident at all, but has acknowledged that it left mental scars. Those scars resurfaced when she faced her own mortality during a severe on-set accident that left her in a hospital bed facing many surgeries to repair a collapsed lung.

“Losing my mother at such an early age is the scar of my soul. But I feel like it ultimately made me into the person I am today. I understand the journey of life. I had to go through what I did to be here,” said Hargitay.

News that NBC renewed its contract for Law & Order: SVU was welcomed by diehard fans that feared the show would be canceled.

However the show’s ratings have seen a jump in the ratings not seen since 2005.

“We’re up 5 percent on the year. Modern Family is down and Criminal Minds is down, they’re still in the Top 10. But it’s a tough slot, up against two Top 10 shows, but we’re up and they’re down,” executive producer Warren Leight told E! News in April.

“We’re up for the first time since 2005 and the critics are responding. You would like to think that counts, but then you get into the arcane—the complicated relationship Dick has had with the network. It’s like a very strange marriage that just goes on and on and on and sometimes nobody pays attention to the kids in the fight.”

  • Mariska Hargitay’s Star On Hollywood Walk of Fame

After 14 years playing Olivia Benson on “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit”, Mariska Hargitay has finally been awarded her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Her star, the 2,511th, was strategically placed right next to her mother’s, actress Jayne Mansfield. Mansfield was a beloved actress whose life ended too soon. On June 29, 1967, Mansfield was on her way home from a nightclub event with her friends, Ronnie Harrison and Sam Brody, and her three children, Mickey Jr., Zoltan, and Mariska. As they rounded a curve, her car slammed into a semi-truck killing those in the front seat instantly. Mariska and her siblings survived with minor injuries, but lost their mother forever.

Despite her tragic loss at such a young age, it didn’t stop Mariska from following in her mother’s footsteps and becoming an actress. Her role on “SVU” has forever changed her life, and has helped thousands of woman across the United States. Because of her time spent on “SVU”, she found her true calling in life… to help those who have been subject to sexual abuse, domestic violence, and child abuse. She started the Joyful Heart Foundation in 2004 and has since devoted her time and energy to help those who may not be strong enough to help themselves.

“It all started when I began my work on ‘Law & Order: Speical Victims Unit’ over a decade ago,” she says on the foundations website. “In my research for my role, I encountered statistics that shocked me: One in three women report being physically or sexually abused by a husband or boyfriend at some point in their lives. Every two minutes in the United States, someone is sexually assaulted. More than five children die every day in this country as a result of child abuse and neglect, and up to 15 million children witness domestic violence in their homes each year.”

Dick Wolf, the creator of the iconic series, was there to congratulate Hargitay as she received her star. “I love you, you’ve done an incredible job. You are one of the icons of television, and certainly, I think the female icon for millions of women not only here, but all around the world,” Wolf told Hargitay.

Also there for support was Hargitay’s long-time friend, Hillary Swank. Swank took a trip down memory lane, describing the first time she met Hargitay on the set of “E.R”.

“Mariska is rare that in her success she finds a way to inspire and empower other people,” said Swank. “There is one wish I have when it comes to Mariska, it would have been wonderful to meet her mom, who from the pictures we see, had the same bright light. But it is so beautiful that today their two stars are shining together here on Hollywood Boulevard for the rest of time.”

Hargitay was obviously emotional as she received one of the highest honors possible. “The thing about our stars is they exist in constellations, they have more meaning together than they do alone, and the one that is most obvious to me is the constellation that I make with my mother,” she said. “This very precious and very private and very public constellation of two is now a beautiful symbol of us together in this very special place.”

  • Mariska Hargitay Follows in Mom’s Footsteps

Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay followed in famous mom Jayne Mansfield’s footsteps this past week. She received her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She received the 2,511th star to be awarded.

Hargitay’s star is next to her late mother’s. Jayne Mansfield received her star more than 50 years ago. Hargitay was just three years old when her mom passed away in a car accident seven years after receiving her star.

Known for her role as Detective Olivia Benson on Law & Order: SVU, Hargitay is honored by her star, but her real passion lies elsewhere. It is her work for the Joyful Heart Foundation. The foundation’s stated mission is to ‘heal, educate and empower survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse.’

Benson launched the foundation back in 2004. She claims her role as Olivia Benson made her acutely aware of the needs the foundation meets.

“It all started when I began my work on ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ over a decade ago,” she says in a statement on the Joyful Heart Foundation’s website.

The work Mariska Hargitay does for the Joyful Heart Foundation is what makes her a real star in the eyes of those who have directly benefitted from her foundation. Her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, next to mom Jayne Mansfield’s, is a bonus.

Not too many Hollywood actors can say they have taken their role and learned enough from it to start a program that helps lift victims of abuse from their individual trenches. Mariska Hargitay is one-of-a-kind, both on TV and in real life.

  • Mariska Hargitay Gets Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Mariska Hargitay is officially a Hollywood legend. The Law & Order: SVU actress got her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday, making her the 2,511th person to be honored. And in a very nice sentimental gesture, Hargitay’s star was placed next to her mother’s, actress Jayne Mansfield, who died in a car accident when Hargitay was just three years old.

The Emmy and Golden Globe award winning actress is currently filming her 14th year as Detective Olivia Benson on SVU. The popular series, which investigates sexually oriented crimes, was the first spinoff stemming from the Law & Order franchise. The hour long show typically takes its plot lines from current headlines and events and delivers the narrative from two separate vantage points. The first half of all Law & Order shows depict the investigative part of the crime, that is where Hargitay’s character Detective Benson does her police work. While, the second half of the episode, shows the audience the prosecution part of the crime.

The 49-year-old actress played bit parts in television and film before being cast in a recurring role in the hospital drama ER in 1997. From there, she got the attention of Law & Order creator Dick Wolf. Both Mr. Wolf and Hargitay’s long-time friend Hilary Swank were present at the ceremony. Mr. Wolf spoke at the event. “I love you, you’ve done an incredible job. You are one of the icons of television, and certainly, I think the female icon for millions of women not only here, but all around the world.”

SVU inspired Hargitay to help victims of sexual assault and violent crimes. In 2004, she started the Joyful Heart Foundation. Their mission statement is “to heal, educate and empower survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse, and to shed light into the darkness that surrounds these issues.”
