Awesome: Elon Musk & Jay Leno Drive the 2021 Tesla Cybertruck

“At Tesla, we always want to have the production car be better than the show car,” says Tesla CEO Elon Musk. “It always drove me crazy when manufacturers would come out with this cool looking show car and then the actual production car would be way worse. You’re like man you got us all excited about this sweet looking car and then the production one was terrible. We’re five percent too big. We (plan to) just take all the proportions and drop them by about five percent (for the actual production version of the Cybertruck). It’s got to fit in a normal garage.”

“There are lots of little details that people wouldn’t necessarily pick up consciously,” says Musk. “Just improving visibility and having the glass like this is actually quite hard because it’s so sloped. We are going to be using effectively a form of armored glass for the car. The door panels of the car are 300 series stainless steel and it’s so tough that it’s bulletproof to a handgun. It’s badass and super cool. When the apocalypse comes you should be glad it’s bulletproof. We want to be a leader in apocalypse technology.”

  • Howard Stern Jumps on Jay Leno Over Jimmy Kimmel “Mean Streak” Comment

Howard Stern is taking Jimmy Kimmel’s side following a comment Jay Leno made about the late-night host.

It was during an interview with the New York Daily News that Jay Leno remarked about Kimmel, saying he’s third place in the late-night ratings because “he’s got a mean streak.”

“It’s funny, I always thought Jimmy Kimmel was the (late night) guy that I was going to be close to,” Jay Leno said during the aforementioned interview. “We have similar blue-collar, Italian roots–but he chose to go after me so he could get into the whole Howard Stern camp and never really understood what it was all about. I think he’s talented, I think he’s funny, but he’s got a mean streak and I think that’s the reason he’s in third place and I think that people sense that.”

Blasting Leno with a declaration of his own, Howard Stern hit back during his radio show.

“No one is more cruel than Jay Leno,” he said. “Jimmy Kimmel is one of the nicest guys on the planet.”

Howard Stern took a bit of an underhanded jab at Leno, too.

“Jay is putting his enormous chin where it doesn’t belong.”

Jimmy Kimmel blasted Jay Leno when he returned to The Tonight Show in 2010 following NBC’s handing the reins to Conan O’Brien, and then taking the show away from him.

Howard Stern firmly believes Leno’s beef with Kimmel is because of his (Kimmel’s) overt respect for David Letterman.

“Jimmy loved Letterman and didn’t like when Jay plotted against him [to become the host of The Tonight Show in 1992],” Howard Stern said.

It’s really all water under that proverbial bridge now–isn’t it? Jay Leno has retired for good from the late night scene, passing the reins on to Jimmy Fallon, who is topping the ratings charts.

Jay Leno “filled in” for Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon earlier this week.

What’s your take on Howard Stern’s comments about Jay Leno? Is he simply a huge Jimmy Kimmel fan who is standing up for his friend–or does he have an old beef with Leno?

Is it possible Howard Stern was simply having a slow news day and opted to diss Jay Leno as a result?

  • Jimmy Fallon Welcomes Jay Leno Back to “The Tonight Show”

Jimmy Fallon surprised his audience on Tuesday night when he welcomed Jay Leno back to The Tonight Show in a surprise appearance.

Fallon started the show as usual–easing into his monologue. Then he suffered some sort of “injury.”

“I think I pulled a hammie on that one. I don’t think I can continue,” Jimmy Fallon said. “I think I’m going to have to sub out. Can someone tag in for me please?”

That’s when longtime Tonight Show host Jay Leno took the stage to thundering applause. He took over Jimmy Fallon’s monologue, immediately launching into several one-liners about presidential candidates.

“You know, a lot of people think that when the Republican feud begins to clear, it’ll be between Jeb Bush and Donald Trump–kind of like the race between the tortoise and the bad ‘hair.’”

Leno made sure to poke fun at Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, too, during the monologue.

Jimmy Fallon rejoined Jay Leno on stage when he started mocking the state of the economy.

“(The economy) is so bad even the Kardashians are losing their ass!” Jay Leno cracked.

“How bad is it?” the Roots replied.

“The economy is so bad Hillary Clinton wants people to look through her deleted e-mails to see if there’s anything from that Nigerian prince,” Jimmy Fallon added.

Did you catch Jay Leno when he appeared on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night?

Leno is promoting his new CNBC show Jay Leno’s Garage, and in doing so is making the rounds of daytime talk shows in addition to his stop at The Tonight Show. Fans were no doubt thrilled to see him back–if only for a short visit.

  • Jimmy Fallon: Jay Leno Takes Over Tonight Show Monologue, Jokes About Kardashian Ass

Due to a comedic injury, Jimmy Fallon had to call in a sub to finish his Tonight Show monologue.

Fallon pulled a hammy on a joke about President Obama and Bernie Sanders, and asked if anyone could tag in for him – as the show must go on.

Thankfully, someone with a bit of monologue experience was there to help.

Check out Jay Leno’s return to The Tonight Show:

Leno’s last time on the stage was for a guest monologue back in November. How do you think he did? Pretty classic Leno, whether that’s good or bad in your opinion.

Other than the joy Leno must get from returning to the show he captained for so many years, the comic was there to promote his new CNBC show, Jay Leno’s Garage.

  • Melissa Rivers Says Jay Leno Snubbed Her Over Feud With Her Mother

It seems that old habits – and old grudges – die hard.

Melissa Rivers appears to be holding a grudge against Jay Leno for holding a grudge against her mother Joan Rivers.

The 47-year-old opened up on Howard Stern about how the former Tonight Show host snubbed her just months after her mother’s death.

Melissa recounted that she was asked to speak at The Hollywood Reporter Women in Entertainment breakfast in December, just 3 months after her mother passed away.

She said she got a text from her friend Sarah Silverman who informed her that Jay Leno would be seated at their table. When she started freaking out about it, her friend just said “I’ll take care of it.”

Joan was famously banned from The Tonight Show by Johnny Carson after she launched a short-lived show on rival network Fox.

The ban appeared to continue even when Carson was succeeded by Leno as Joan was never invited back during the host’s 20-year run on the show. Leno later admitted in an interview that he didn’t think Carson “wanted to see her on the show.”

Howard Stern talks about Jay Leno’s ban f Joan Rivers on ‘The Tonight Show’ (explicit dialogue)

While Silverman was able to make other seating arrangements for Melissa, the actress still had a run-in with Leno.

“I walk in, and I’m standing, having a coffee in the reception area, and Jay….looks right at me, and looks away,” she described to Stern on his radio show.

Melissa added that she thought he would at least approach her and offer his condolences.

“It would have been closure, and it would have been the right thing to do,” Melissa said.

She then shared that she thought to herself that Leno had “no courage” for not making an effort to talk to her.

But in a statement, Leno’s rep said that it was all a misunderstanding and that the host didn’t recognize Melissa.

“Had he done so, he would’ve come over to extend his condolences,” the rep said.

  • David Letterman: Jay Leno Invited to Appear on ‘Late Show’

David Letterman and Jay Leno have long been what many described as arch rivals. Now some media outlets are reporting that Letterman’s Late Show has extended an invitation to Jay Leno to appear as a guest.

Reuters is reporting that Jay Leno has in fact been invited to appear on The Late Show some time before David Letterman retires in May. The offer was extended some time late in 2014.

CBS is supposedly looking to capitalize on the hype surrounding Letterman’s upcoming retirement. If Jay Leno agrees to go on the show, it could definitely up the ratings. Leno retired from The Tonight Show last year–passing the torch to Jimmy Fallon. Fallon has thus far been very successful in his new late night spot.

Last week, Jay Leno was asked about whether or not he was actually invited to appear on David Letterman’s show while speaking at the National Association of Television Program Executives conference in Miami.

“I haven’t heard that,” he replied. “I’ll have to check into that.”

Shortly before his retirement, Jay Leno told TVInsider.com that he was open to visiting David Letterman on the Late Show.

“That could happen, why not,” he said. “It’s certainly a possibility. Some of my best moments were doing the show with Dave.”

Leno also added that even if he appeared on the Late Show, he didn’t expect much of anything to change between him and David Letterman.

“It’s the same. I don’t think it changes anything,” he said.

Check out Jay Leno and David Letterman on Dave’s show back in 1985.

TV history would definitely be made if Jay Leno were to appear as a guest on The Late Show. It will be interesting to see if this comes to fruition before David Letterman retires in the spring.

  • Trista Sutter On Jay Leno’s ‘Bachelorette’ Tale

Trista Sutter reacted this weekend to a story Jay Leno shared with Craig Ferguson during the final episode of the Late Late Show last Friday.

Craig Ferguson mentioned to Jay Leno how exhausting it was to entertain the many celebrity guests he met throughout the years. Leno remarked that sometimes the people he had to interview were boring.

“The classic example is I had one of these reality stars on… Trista!” Leno recalled of the first-ever Bachelorette, who first rose to fame back in 2003. “From one of these Bachelorettes… So, I’m sitting and I’m looking at the side of her head. I couldn’t be less interested. I’ve never seen this stupid reality show–you know what it was.”

Jay Leno continued, saying that once the interview was over, he ran into Trista Sutter in the parking lot.

“She goes, ‘Hey, can I have a picture?’” the former Tonight Show host said. “And I go, ‘Sure, what’s your name?’”

Trista Sutter reacted to Jay Leno’s story via Twitter.

Trista Sutter is the author of Happily Ever After: The Life-Changing Power of a Grateful Heart.

What do you suppose Jay Leno would have to say had he interviewed the former Bachelorette about her book? That might not have been nearly as humorous an anecdote–or it would have fallen at the very top of that ‘boring’ list–probably even higher than some of those guests he interviewed throughout the years.

  • ‘Bob Newhart Show’ Finale Honored On Craig Ferguson’s ‘The Late Late Show’ Farewell

The Bob Newhart Show finale was honored by Craig Ferguson during his farewell to the The Late Late Show Friday.

In a surprise twist, Bob Newhart was revealed to be Secretariat the Pantomime Horse all these years as he got Friday’s The Late Late Show finale under way in a Newhart-style ending.

As the 52-year-old host chatted with Geoff the robot, he wondered who it might be inside the horse costume.

“Lift up your head, let’s see who you really are,” he hollered to Secretariat, who was hanging out in his stall. As Secretariat complied and took off the head of the costume, it was revealed to be Newhart.

“What are you doing here?” Ferguson asked.

“Hey, guy, it’s YOUR dream,” replied the Newhart, referring to the classic final scene from his sitcom.

Ferguson woke up from his dream in bed beside Drew Carey, wondering if the past 10 years had been a dream all along, spoofing the sitcom’s ending when Newhart woke up with Suzanne Pleshette beside him.

Ferguson’s only guest for the evening was Tonight Show host Jay Leno.

“Just two guys with nothing to do,” said Ferguson.

“They may take our talk shows,” Leno added, “but they will never take our freedom!”

Ferguson ended the show thanking his viewers.

“The people that made this show are you,” he said. “You came to a show that was like, let’s be honest, a bit of a fixer-upper, and it kind of stayed that way.”

The Scottish-born host, who became an American a few years back, marveled at the impact the show has had on him.

“I think that what was more overwhelming, more than anything else in the experience of doing this show, was making a connection with a country, which I became a part of, which is astonishing to me,” he said.

“Even in the course of this show, I became an American… officially, and particularly for my friends at the IRS, I am now a fully-fledged American. … I wanted to do this show and now we’ve done this show, and if you will indulge me in whatever I am doing now and come to whatever I do next, I’d be very grateful, because my kids are still young.”

  • Angie Harmon, Jason Sehorn to Divorce After 13 Years of Marriage

Angie Harmon and Jason Sehorn are splitting after 13 years of marriage.

A rep confirmed the news to People on Monday.

“For the sake of their children, they ask for respect and privacy as they navigate this time in their lives,” said the rep.

The ex-NFL star proposed in a very public, lovely and memorable way to Harmon live on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 1998.

The couple married in 2001 and went on to have three daughters — Finley, 11, Avery, nine, and Emery, five.

Harmon, Sehorn and their family removed themselves from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood and set up housekeeping in Charlotte, N.C. But, it didn’t always prove to be an easy task for Harmon, traveling to and from Los Angeles to work on her TNT drama, Rizzoli and Isles, as Harmon told CBS News in February.

“I shoot six months out of the year,” said Harmon, who portrays Boston detective, Jane Rizzoli, on the series. “So I’m on the other side of the country for six months out of the year. The silver lining in this is that I’m from Texas. They get on a plane from Charlotte, I get on a plane from LA. We fly, we meet in the middle. They get to spend time with their grandparents and grow up with their cousins. It’s not the ideal situation, but it works.”

“A large part of it is when you spend five or six months a year away from your spouse, it gets really tough,” an insider told Us Magazine.

According to the insider, there was no cheating or other betrayal involved in the couple’s decision to separate.

“They’re good, devout Christian people,” the source said. “The split wasn’t shocking to their close friends.”

  • Pam Dawber of ‘Mork and Mindy’, Other Co-Stars Remember Robin Williams

The world has reacted with shock and sadness this week to the death of Robin Williams, who was found dead in his Tiberon, California home on Monday. The 63-year-old, beloved actor’s death was ruled a suicide by hanging.

Those who worked with him and knew him well shared their thoughts following the tragic news.

“I am completely and totally devastated. What more can be said?” — Mork and Mindy co-star Pam Dawber, in a statement.

“My life is a better place because I knew Robin Williams. To my children he was Uncle Robin, to everyone he worked with, he was the best boss anyone had ever known, and to me he was not just an inspiration but he was the Father I had always dreamed of having. There are not enough adjectives to describe the light he was, to anyone that ever had the pleasure to meet him. I will miss him everyday, but I know the memory of him will live on. And to his family, I thank them for letting us know him and seeing the joy they brought him. Us crazy ones love you. God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” — The Crazy Ones co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar, in a statement.

“Heartbroken. Thanks chief — for your friendship and for what you gave the world. Robin had a ton of love in him. He personally did so much for so many people. He made Matt and my dreams come true. What do you owe a guy who does that? Everything. May you find peace my friend.” — Ben Affleck, in a statement, referring to Williams starring in his and Matt Damon’s first acting/writing venture, Good Will Hunting.

“His kindness and generosity is what I think of. How kind he was to anyone who wanted to connect with him. And he could not help but be funny all the time. He would do something as long as it would keep you laughing. He made many, many film crews laugh out loud before the audiences ever saw it. He made such a big impact on the world. So there is the man, and his talent, and I think in his case both were extraordinary.” — Night at the Museum co-star Ben Stiller, in a statement.

“I feel I have to say something more than just ‘heartbreaking and shocking,’ which everyone has said and I feel as well, but something a little more personal. Thus the following: One day in 1995 while riffing in the character of a snobby French toy store owner, Robin made me laugh so hard and so long that I cried. It seemed to please him to no end. Yesterday, I cried again at the thought that he was gone. What I will always remember about Robin, perhaps even more than his comic genius, extraordinary talent and astounding intellect, was his huge heart — his tremendous kindness, generosity and compassion as an acting partner, colleague and fellow traveler in a difficult world. My heartfelt condolences to his wife and family.” — The Birdcage co-star Nathan Lane, in Time magazine.

“I feel stunned and so sad about Robin. I’m sad for the world of comedy. And so very sad for his family. And I’m sad for Robin. He always lit up when he was able to make people laugh, and he made them laugh his whole life long…. tirelessly. He was one of a kind. There will not be another. Please God, let him now rest in peace.” — Mrs. Doubtfire co-star Sally Field, in a statement.

—”Robin was a lightning storm of comic genius and our laughter was the thunder that sustained him. He was a pal and I can’t believe he’s gone.” — Steven Spielberg, in a statement.

“I saw him on stage the very first time he auditioned at the Improv and we have been friends ever since. It’s a very sad day.” — Jay Leno, in a statement.

“We have lost one of our most inspired and gifted comic minds, as well as one of this generation’s greatest actors. To watch Robin work, was a magical and special privilege. His performances were unlike anything any of us had ever seen, they came from some spiritual and otherworldly place. He truly was one of the few people who deserved the title of ‘genius.’” — Hook director Chris Columbus, in a statement.

“Robin and I were great friends, suffering from the same little-known disease: depression. I never could have expected this ending to his life, and to ours with him. God bless him and God bless us all for his LIFE! I cannot believe this. I am overwhelmed with grief. What a wonderful man/boy and what a tremendous talent in the most important art of any time – comedy! I loved him.” — Chevy Chase, in a statement.

“I’ve never known a sweeter, brighter, more considerate person than Robin. Robin’s commitment as an artist to lifting our mood and making us happy is compared to none. He loved us all and we loved him back.” — John Travolta, in a statement.

“To see Robin perform was an experience. He was more than a comedian. He was a comedy force of nature. I remember hearing that Robin was once doing a press junket in Germany. One of the reporters asked him, ‘Why is it that Germany is not known for comedy?’ Robin answered, ‘Well, you killed all your funny people.’ I laughed out loud when I heard that. I thought, how sick and how wonderfully truthful.” — comedian Gilbert Gottfried, in a statement.

“I was lucky to work with him as an actor and witness first hand the magic of what made him a legend, the wit and other worldly improv skills.” — Hook co-star Dante Basco (Rufio), in a statement.

The couple quietly finalized their divorce in June and reports are only now emerging about the end of the couple’s marriage. According to TMZ, who broke the story, the divorce was filed in June and the two settled all the terms themselves.

It was Duchovny, 54, who filed for the divorce, citing an irretrievable breakdown of the relationship.

The couple will share legal custody of their 12-year-old son, Kyd Miller, and 15-year-old daughter, Madelaine West, although they will reside with the 48-year-old actress. The couple met at The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and married in 1997. They separated in 2008 when Duchovny was treated for sex addiction, and after a reconciliation following his rehab stint, they separated once again in 2011.

  • Behati Prinsloo, Adam Levine Marry in Mexico

Behati Prinsloo and Adam Levine tied the knot in Mexico on Saturday. The Voice star and Maroon 5 front man married the Victoria’s Secret Angel in front of 300 guests. Behati wore a stunning Marchesa gown and the couple asked friends and family members to make charitable donations in lieu of wedding gifts.

Some of those friends included a long list of celebrities. Jonah Hill was on hand, as was Candice Swanepoel, Jason Segel, and most of the members of Maroon 5. Band mate James Valentine performed during the ceremony that included 20-minute-long vows.

“It’s just another gig for me. I’m gonna be playing some solo acoustic guitar during the ceremony when people are walking [in],” Valentine–who served as Adam Levine’s best man–said during an interview prior to the nuptials.

Fellow Voice coach and half of Adam Levine’s TV bromance, Blake Shelton, was unable to attend the wedding. Blake is on tour in Chicago. Stevie Nicks, who will serve as mentor for Adam’s upcoming team on The Voice, flew in for the big day.

The night before that big day, Behati Prinsloo and Adam Levine hosted a ‘rehearsal dinner beach party.’ Held at the El Dorado Golf & Beach Club, guests enjoyed authentic Mexican cuisine that included mini churros and ice cream for dessert.

Just hours before his wedding, Adam Levine took to social media with excitement.

Behati Prinsloo started dating the ‘Maps’ singer back in 2012. They split for a short time, but Adam Levine gave the relationship his all after that–proposing to Behati almost exactly one year ago.

“Famous last words, ‘I’ll never get married,’” Adam Levine said to Jay Leno on The Tonight Show last fall. “I still don’t necessarily think you have to get married unless you meet someone that makes you want to marry them. And then you marry them and it’s wonderful.”

Of course not everyone is thrilled that Adam Levine got married.

This guy seemed to get it, however.

Behati Prinsloo and Adam Levine and now en route to a honeymoon in South Africa. May they enjoy some relaxing time together as husband and wife, and return to their insane world to experience their happily ever after.

  • Jay Leno: Producer’s Book Spills Beans on ‘Tonight Show’ Antics

Jay Leno’s longtime Tonight Show segment producer David Berg has written a book about his years with Leno and the snafus and occasional difficulties the staff and host ran in to with a handful of guests. Called Behind the Curtain: An Insider’s View of Jay Leno’s Tonight Show, the book shares some things Jay Leno could not while at the Tonight Show helm. Since passing the torch to Jimmy Fallon in February, however, these former guests and the stories about them are all fair game.

For example, Jesse Jackson suffered from horrible stage fright and following a segment during which he shook horribly both backstage and even after he went on, Leno came up with an idea for calming such awful cases of nerves. He called it The Jay Bar and it featured a station replete with beer and wine for guests to enjoy before going on the show. It likely would have worked just fine for Jesse Jackson, however some guests didn’t know when to call it good. In 20013 Quentin Tarantino drank so much at The Jay Bar he was visibly slurring his words during his conversation with Leno.

David Berg says Paula Abdul was what he considered a ‘risky guest.’

“Her behavior was consistently erratic. She would cancel appearances for strange reasons, and when she did show up, her speech was often so slurred we could barely understand her,” Berg writes. He was responsible for making sure she was “coherent enough to appear.”

Since Abdul brought with her hefty ratings she was a frequent visitor on The Tonight Show, too.

Berg also tells of an unnamed guest whose towel dropped suddenly when both Jay Leno and Berg entered her dressing room. Jay initially chalked it up to an accident or ‘wardrobe malfunction,’ and not missing a comic opportunity to say, “How could any towel withstand that kind of pressure?” However when it happened again during her next appearance on the show he was rendered speechless.

Jay Leno’s segment producer no doubt has lots of great tales to tell in Behind the Curtain: An Insider’s View of Jay Leno’s Tonight Show, and even though some former guests of the funny man will likely be less than thrilled about the tattling, it certainly sounds like it makes for interesting and very funny reading.

  • Jay Leno to Receive Prestigious Comedy Award

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts this week announced that Jay Leno will be awarded this year’s Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. A ceremony to award Leno the prize will be held on October 19 at Kennedy Center Concert Hall in Washington D.C.

The Mark Twain Prize is an annual award given to comedians who have impacted American society in a similar way to 19th century satirist Mark Twain. Twain is best known for novels such as Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court. Twain’s novels provided both an accurate portrait and a scathing, humorous critique of post-Civil War America.

“What an honor! I’m a big fan of Mark Twain’s,” said Leno. “In fact, A Tale of Two Cities is one of my favorite books!”

Leno is best known as the host of the The Tonight Show, having taken over the show’s hosting duties from Johnny Carson in 1992.

Leno will be the 17th comedian to be awarded the Mark Twain Prize. Past recipients of the award include comedy legends such as Carol Burnett, Bill Cosby, George Carlin, Steve Martin, Lily Tomlin, Bob Newhart, and the recently deceased Jonathan Winters. Contemporary comedians such as Ellen DeGeneres, Will Ferrell, and Tina Fey have also been awarded the prize. The first recipient of the Mark Twain Prize in 1998 was Richard Pryor.

Mark Twain Prize ceremonies typically feature other famous comedians who gather to praise the recipient’s work and life. The ceremony also serves as a fundraiser for the Kennedy Center. “Sponsorship” packages for this year’s event are available from anywhere between $1,000 to $50,000 and include perks such as admission to a rehearsal brunch, a pre-ceremony dinner, and a post-ceremony reception with Leno and other comedians.

Tickets for this year’s ceremony will be available for Kennedy Center Members starting July 28 and for the general public starting August 6. The ceremony will also be taped for a PBS broadcast on November 23.

  • Jay Leno to Receive America’s Top Humor Prize

Jay Leno to Receive America’s Top Humor Prize

Jay Leno may have retired from The Tonight Show and handed the reins to fellow funny man Jimmy Fallon back in February, but he’s still known as being among the funniest people around. He will be awarded for his uncanny sense of humor–and deliverance of said humor–this fall when the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor is bestowed upon the comedian during an event in Washington, D.C. This is the nation’s top award for humor.

A performance by fellow comedians will take place on October 19th at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. It will be broadcast on PBS stations on November 23rd. The prize Leno will receive is given annually to those “who have had an impact on American society through their humor and social commentary.”

“Like Mark Twain, Jay Leno has offered us a lifetime’s worth of humorous commentary on American daily life,” Kennedy Center Chairman David Rubenstein said when he announced the recipient of the award. “For both men, no one was too high or too low to escape their wit, and we are all the better for it.”

After learning that his name was announced as the recipient of the prestigious prize, Jay Leno issued a statement saying he’s honored and is a big fan of Twain’s. He also said A Tale of Two Cities is one of his favorite books.

Ummm, Jay? A Tale of Two Cities was written by Charles Dickens–not Mark Twain. He must have been kidding–right?

Jay Leno inherited The Tonight Show seat from Johnny Carson back in 1992, beating out David Letterman, and was the top-rated late-night host for years. Letterman was the first between them to win the Kennedy Center Honors, but Leno was first to win the top humor prize. Kennedy Center producers aren’t saying which of the two comedians and late night hosts they think are funnier.

For many years Leno also has kept an incredibly busy schedule of stand-up gigs. In fact he tests his humor in nightclubs and theaters with more than 100 performances a year.

Since leaving NBC’s late-night schedule, Leno has gained a huge international following on the internet with his new creation, JayLenosGarage.com, which highlights his love of cars. His YouTube channel now boasts more than 938,000 subscribers.

Congratulations to Jay Leno on receiving this prestigious honor. Now if only the former late night funny man would somehow find his way back to network TV–even occasionally–his fans would love him even more.

  • Jay Leno Is Enjoying His Retirement

Jay Leno Is Enjoying His Retirement

Jay Leno became one of America’s favorite comedians while serving twenty consecutive years as the host of everybody’s favorite late night show The Tonight Show.

So, when Leno announced that he would be retiring in February, fans were devastated. However, during a recent interview with the Associated Press, Leno assured his fans that he is enjoying his retirement and praised his replacement former Saturday Night Live star Jimmy Fallon.

Leno says that he feels “liberated” and is enjoying traveling and investing in his stand up comedy routines. “Write joke. Tell joke. Get check. It’s pretty simple. It’s not a hard plan,” he joked to the AP, while he was in Israel to host an award ceremony that is to honor former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg for his philanthropic work. Leno will also be performing, in Jerusalem, in front of Bloomberg, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the other dignitaries, during the first ever Genesis Prize ceremony.

While Leno says he has no plans of immediately returning to television, he did say that he would gladly make an appearance with Fallon if he was invited. “I have no problem doing that, but I think that once you leave you’ve got to let the ground lay fallow for a while,” he explained.

Leno admitted that Fallon is doing an excellent job, and he is glad to have the burden of the show taken off his shoulders. “He’s [Fallon] a great friend of mine and I think he is doing a terrific job,” Leno said. “At some point you realize it is time to step down … I’m having a good time now.”

“You don’t have to watch Noah and all these other films, these kinds of kid movies. You get to a certain age where ‘OK, I’m over the superhero thing,’” he added. “I don’t have to do that anymore so that’s fantastic!”

  • Jay Leno Retirement Plans Pan Out

Jay Leno Retirement Plans Pan Out

America may have been sad to see Jay Leno leave The Tonight Show, but at least one person is glad he did it.

    That person is Jay Leno.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Leno explained that he feels “liberated” to spend the time working on his stand up routines while traveling around the world. This week, he was in Israel. Next week, who knows?

“Write joke. Tell joke. Get check. It’s pretty simple. It’s not a hard plan,” he said, explaining that doing stand up is easy compared to doing The Tonight Show every night, “You don’t have to watch ‘Noah’ and all these other films, these kinds of kid movies. You get to a certain age where ‘OK, I’m over the superhero thing. I don’t have to do that anymore so that’s fantastic!”

He also said he has no plans to get back in television anytime soon, but he wouldn’t mind appearing as a guest on his former show: “I have no problem doing that, but I think that once you leave you’ve got to let the ground lay fallow for a while.”

The last episode of The Tonight Show hosted by Leno had Billy Crystal as a guest who said this of the former host: “You work so hard because you love this job, and more than anybody I know, you love being a comedian. It’s been such a thrill to watch you be one of America’s friends, who they turn to before they go to sleep at night.”

Jay Leno’s Twitter feed has been noticeably silent since he left The Tonight Show a few months ago. But you can still give a look and see the wonderful messages posted there wishing him well.

It looks like their wishes came true.

  • Jay Leno Surprises Arsenio Hall On His Show

It’s been all about Jimmy Fallon the past couple of weeks, that’s for sure, because ever since he took over the Tonight Show for Jay Leno the buzz surrounding the ex-Saturday Night Live member has been huge.

But what about Leno, what has he been doing since making his Tonight Show exit? Hardly anybody knows, because he’s done a good job of staying out of the limelight, except for this past Wednesday when he showed up on The Arsenio Hall Show to reveal some very important news.

While Hall was in the middle of his monologue, Leno–dressed in jeans and a blazer–pulled a white envelope from his pocket, opened it and read the news: The Arsenio Hall Show has been picked up for a second season, which made everyone clap and cheer in complete happiness, as it seemed nobody on the show knew if they were coming back or not, not even Arsenio.

“How are you so juiced into everything?” Hall asked Leno. “How come I don’t get my news first?”

Afterward, the two talk show hosts joked around a bit and talked about how long they’ve known each other. “We’ve known each other, what 35 years?” asked Leno. “Yup, you’ve been a big brother to me,” Hall answered. “You’ve given me too much advice sometimes.”

But Hall and Leno haven’t always been the best of friends. In the 90s, when Hall’s original show took off, the competition between him and Leno was at an all time high, and the two talked a little smack to each other through the press. However, for the most part, their rivalry was friendly and Hall has been on the Tonight Show as a guest many times.

And for Hall’s show, it wasn’t a definite it would be renewed because some had questions whether the 58-year old could still hold the attention of young and hip audiences like he used to. Apparently, he still can and it’ll be interesting to see how he improves the show next season.

  • Jay Leno Might Appear on Letterman Soon

Arguably, this past week has been the best week of Jimmy Fallon’s career, because not only did he do wonderfully when he took over the Tonight Show from Jay Leno, but he’s been the talk of the Internet, as just about every skit he’s done has gone viral.

So now the folks at the Late Show with David Letterman are starting to sweat a bit, because Fallon is pulling all the top guests and winning the ratings battle between the two shows.

And that’s why Letterman is trying to get Leno on his show as a guest, because if he does, it’ll likely cause viewers to watch in larger numbers, and tune out of Fallon’s show for at least one night.

“There’s been quiet talk behind the scenes for months that Dave will have Jay Leno on as a guest,” said a Daily News source. “[Letterman’s] producers waited until Fallon debuted [on his show], give him space out of respect, but are now ready to pull out all the stops.”

In addition, the source says there’s currently a booking battle going on between the two shows, and producers of the Late Show with David Letterman are keeping an eye on Fallon to see who he’ll book in the future.

“Letterman’s booking department is keeping track of everyone who has appeared on Fallon so far, and considering if they’re worth having,” said the source. “Letterman’s people aren’t taking leftovers.”

Many folks are probably wondering if Fallon will be able to maintain the high ratings he’s received so far, because for one, he’s been able to snag Olympics viewers this past week, plus, a lot of folks are tuning in to him out of sheer curiosity, and they might not do the same in the weeks and months to come.

“The audience will definitely shrink down to a more normal size in a few weeks,” predicted the Daily News source. “Especially after the Olympics are over.”

But we’ll see if that prediction holds true, because there’s a good chance that Fallon’s show will only become more popular.

  • Jimmy Fallon’s Debut On The Tonight Show Goes Over Well, Joined By Several Guests

There has been plenty of talk and controversy about Jay Leno leaving, and Jimmy Fallon taking over The Tonight Show, and last night, it finally happened. Fallon made his debut with a couple of big scheduled guests, and many more who came in to surprise everyone.

On his debut of The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon was host to Will Smith as an interviewed guest, and U2 as the musical guest. It is hard to imagine two others to match their star persona for someone’s debut show. His flashy new credits also debuted, with direction from Spike Lee, and musical accompaniment by his house band, The Roots.

Before his transition to the late night talk shows, Jimmy Fallon became famous as a cast member on Saturday Night Live. He was the co-anchor of “Weekend Update,” and after leaving in 2004, he went on to a career in film–but it did not last long. His film credits include Fever Pitch and Whip It.

Will Smith graced his show as the first guest, and as Jimmy Fallon has been known to do funny skits with guests, he got up for a hip hop dance routine with the popular actor, who is also a former hip hop artist.

U2 performed their new song “Invisible,” and after that, sat down for an acoustic version of “Ordinary Love,” the Oscar-nominated song from the film Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom. “Invisible” was preformed on the roof in a surreal looking setting, which made for quite a performance for their debut of the song.

In addition to Will Smith and U2, the stars continued to show up throughout the show, and it seemed that all of Fallon’s celebrity friends wanted to welcome him in his new time slot. The long list of celebrities that showed up included Tina Fey, Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga, Sarah Jessica Parker, Seth Rogen, Lindsay Lohan, Mariah Carey, Joan Rivers, Tracey Morgan and Mike Tyson.

He had previously proved to be a natural while hosting NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and has earned his spot on The Tonight show, with its earlier time, and legendary brand name. With his new show, Fallon showed a bit of honesty, and a touch of nervousness when saying “I just want to do well. If you guys let me stick around long enough, maybe I’ll get the hang of it.”

A significant part of the new version of The Tonight Show is that it has been moved back to New York, and while the show had spent more than 40 years in Los Angeles, it has now been moved back to Rockefeller Plaza. Jay Leno was the host of the show for much of the past 20 years in Los Angeles. The show now airs in the same studio that was once witness to well-known host Johnny Carson, and before him, Jack Paar.
