  • Jake Locker Injury: No Emergency Surgery Needed

The Tennessee Titans routed the Jets last night 38-13 at home, but that win felt a little empty after Titans quarterback Jake Locker went out with an injury. Locker was hurt just a few minutes into the third quarter and had to be carted off the field and transported to the hospital by ambulance.

After trying to throw a pass, Locker was hit by Jets player Muhammad Wilkerson and then hit by Quinton Coples. Locker went down grabbing at his right hip and was eventually carted off the field. While being evaluated on the field, the fans began chanting for Locker, saying “Jake, Jake, Jake.”

“I could tell he was in pain. He was wincing,” said fullback Collin Mooney. “The first thing he asked was, ‘Did he catch the ball?’ That’s Jake for you.”

Despite the obvious loss to the Titans’ offense, the Titans didn’t let that obstacle stand in the way of holding onto the lead and finishing the game. The Titans put up two more scores in the fourth quarter, giving them a 25-point victory over the New York Jets. That large margin of a victory would be certainly be something to celebrate over any other time, but many of the Titans players found it a little harder to enjoy given the situation.

“It is definitely bittersweet,” wide receiver Damian Williams said. “Obviously you have to enjoy the win. It is the first time we’ve performed like this together, offensively and defensively. But when your general goes down, when your captain goes down, it is definitely tough for the team. We’re all praying and hoping for the best.”

Jake Locker’s injury, which certainly scared fans and teammates alike, may not be as serious as some originally thought. Titans head coach Mike Munchak said that Locker didn’t go to the hospital for an emergency surgery, but to get the hip checked out. Munchak also said that from initial reports, it didn’t look like Locker’s hip popped out of its socket, so hopefully for the Titans, Locker won’t be out for long.

  • Titans’ Jake Locker Hospitalized Amid Hip Injury

Things can change in a matter of seconds, and Tennessee Titans’ star quarterback, Jake Locker, can definitely attest to that given his rapid turn of events during yesterday’s game. The Titans’ (3-1) have kicked off the 2013 season, hitting the ground running – literally and figuratively. But, in wake of Locker’s injury, it’s hard not to question if the team’s dynamic has been thrown a wrench.

At the top of the third quarter during the Titans-Jets game Sunday, New York Jets’ defensive lineman, Muhammad Wilkerson, charged Locker with an intense blow to the chest, right before he took another hit on the way to the ground. Locker landed on his right foot in an obviously awkward position. He immediately grabbed his right hip, which was a definite indicator that the starting quarterback was in pain.

He turned to lay flat of his back, as the team’s medical staff rushed the field before carting him off to the locker room. Locker laid immobilized as he reassured the crowd that he was okay, giving a thumbs up. But, his pain was quite blatant. Locker was quickly assessed and rushed to the hospital.

The Titans have not released any further details in regards to Locker’s condition. However, Tennesse Titans’ head coach, Mike Munchak, did state that Locker’s injury did not require emergency surgery, which hopefully is a good indicator that his condition isn’t season-ending.

Although Locker suffered an injury, all was not lost as there were, indeed, high points in the game. ABC News indicated that Locker did throw a NFL career-high of three touchdowns before his injury, and the Titans went on to clench a 38-13 win over the Jets. While the detailed status of Locker’s injury has not been thoroughly assessed and released as of yet, there’s still a glint of optimism for the quarterback and the team.

  • Jake Locker: Here’s What Twitter Thinks About Him Starting

The Tennessee Titans have confirmed that they will start quarterback Jake Locker in their season opener against the New England Patriots on September 9.

While the decision seems to have the approval of Titans owner Bud Adams, and Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck has even said he’ll help Locker in any way he can, fans are somewhat divided over the decision.

As one might expect, there seems to be a pretty even mix of criticism and optimism about the decision on Twitter:

The Titans selected Locker with the 8th overall pick in the 2011 draft, out of Washington. While filling in for the injured Hasselbeck last year, Locker threw for four touchdowns and rushed for another. After he plays in the Patriots game, I suspect Twitter’s reaction will be much more one-sided.
