Here’s What’s New On Netflix (Including It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia: Season 9)

As you know, content comes and goes on Netflix. Each week, we’re bringing you a list of titles that you’ll be able to stream in the U.S. in the coming days. As always, dates are subject to change.

We’re getting this week’s list up a few days late but there are some solid titles. I know you Sunny fans are happy now. Stay tuned, as we should have the next list up on Friday.

    Available on 11/01:

    Artifact (2012)

First known as an actor, Jared Leto has also found success in the music industry with his band 30 Seconds to Mars. This documentary follows the band as it makes the album “This is War” while battling recording giant EMI in a pivotal lawsuit.

    Babes In Toyland (1961)

Ray Bolger, Tommy Sands, Annette Funicello, Ed Wynn, Tommy Kirk, Kevin Corcoran, Henry Calvin

Composer Victor Herbert’s operetta comes delightfully to life in this 1961 fantasy starring Annette Funicello as Mary Contrary, whose fiancé, Tom Piper, (Tommy Sands), is abducted by a pair of goons. It seems that dastardly Mr. Barnaby (Ray Bolger) — who covets Mary and her inheritance — dispatched the thugs to get Tom out of the picture. When the dim-bulb duo double-crosses the boss, it sets off a search for Tom and a slew of comical chases.

    Bali: Season 1

Facing the everyday incidents of childhood with curiosity and imagination, thoroughly modern preschooler Bali enjoys life in the city with his family.

    Hell is for Heroes (1962)

Steve McQueen, Bobby Darin, Fess Parker, Harry Guardino, James Coburn, Bob Newhart, Nick Adams

When a weary infantry squad is sent back into battle against a massive German force, unruly ace soldier Reese (Steve McQueen, in strong antihero form) devises a ruse to trick the Nazis into thinking the tiny Allied platoon is a much larger battalion. Renowned action director Don Siegel (Dirty Harry) helms the tense, well-acted war film, which also stars Bobby Darin, Bob Newhart and James Coburn as the flamethrower-wielding Henshaw.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Season 9

Narcissistic friends Charlie, Mac, Dennis, and Dennis’s sister, Dee, run Paddy’s Pub, a downtown Philadelphia Irish bar, where everyone’s judgmental (and juvenile) behavior usually brings situations from uncomfortable to hysterically horrible.

    Kingpin (1996)

Woody Harrelson, Bill Murray, Randy Quaid, Chris Elliott, Vanessa Angel

The Farrelly brothers dumb down and goof up pro bowling — and gross us out in the process. After bowler Roy Munsen (Woody Harrelson) swindles the wrong crowd and is left with a hook for a hand, he settles into impoverished obscurity. That is, until he uncovers the next big thing: an Amish kid named Ishmael (Randy Quaid). So, the corrupt and the hopelessly naïve hit the circuit intent on settling an old score with Big Ern (Bill Murray).

    Portlandia: Season 4

Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein send up the righteous, artistically inclined and 100% organic residents of Portland, Ore., in this sketch-based comedy series. Typical targets include artisanal light bulbs, feminist bookstores and indie rock.

    The Rocketeer (1991)

Billy Campbell, Jennifer Connelly, Alan Arkin, Timothy Dalton, Paul Sorvino, Terry O’Quinn, Ed Lauter
In this stylish action-adventure, a stunt pilot stumbles across an experimental Nazi jet pack that transforms him into a one-man air force — and soon becomes a target for mobsters, spies, FBI agents and millionaire Howard Hughes.

    Trading Mom (1994)

Sissy Spacek, Anna Chlumsky, Aaron Michael Metchik, Asher Metchik, Merritt Yohnka, André the Giant

Sissy Spacek plays four different characters in this unusual family comedy about three young siblings — Elizabeth, Jeremy and Harry — who magically banish their overworked single mother and try out several new models found at the “Mommy Market.”

    Spike (2008)

Alexis Tomassian, Richard Duval, Med Hondo, Daniel Kamwa, Gilbert Levy, Michel Mella

Carrying the bag containing the letters to Santa Claus sent by children all around the world, one of Santa’s elves loses the letters and must attempt to retrieve them from a bank vault guarded by penguins and targeted by a polar bear.

    Total Recall (1990)

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rachel Ticotin, Sharon Stone, Ronny Cox, Michael Ironside, Marshall Bell

Paul Verhoeven’s violent sci-fi adventure follows construction worker Douglas Quaid, who discovers a memory chip in his brain during a virtual-reality trip. He also finds that his past has been invented to conceal a plot of planetary domination.

    Available on11/03:

The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004)

Anne Hathaway, Julie Andrews, Hector Elizondo, John Rhys-Davies, Heather Matarazzo, Chris Pine
As the newly crowned princess of the tiny European country of Genovia, teen Mia Thermopolis is still trying to get used to her title — and as she’s groomed to become the nation’s future ruler, Mia learns an arranged marriage may be in store.

    Available on 11/04:

    Altman (2014)

  • When Will ‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’ Season 8 Hit Netflix?

Update: Season 8 is now available for streaming. American Horror Story: Season 2 is due in December.

With the ninth season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia already in progress, fans are no doubt wondering when the last season is going to hit Netflix. We haven’t heard a date for when it will be available for streaming yet, and it’s already out on DVD.

In fact, Netflix currently offers it through its DVD service:

    Sunny on DVD

While we can only speculate, it seems like a December release is likely at this point, considering that Netflix debuted the other seasons in December last year.

Netflix does continue to add streaming content from FX. It recently added seasons of Louie and The League, for example.

Still, fans continue to wait for Netflix to catch up on the last seasons of Sunny, American Horror Story and Sons of Anarchy. Perhaps lending more weight to the speculation of the November addition of Sunny: Season 8, these other two shows have also yet to reach their anniversaries of prior season Netflix releases.

Season 4 of Sons hit Netflix in late October last year, with the first season of American Horror Story appearing in late November. If these shows follow suit this year, it will certainly give us a better idea of what to expect next year, provided unforeseen circumstances don’t change anything.

Either way, Sunny fans can expect to see a McPoyle brother in Netflix’s House of Cards early next year.

  • “Always Sunny” Has A New, Surprising Cast

“Always Sunny” Has A New, Surprising Cast

If you’re a fan of the FX show “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” (and you should be), you’re probably aware that the last couple of seasons haven’t been up to the same disgusting, depraved, hilarious level that former seasons have been. While there were some gems–Frank and his “rum ham”, for instance–recent episodes haven’t been able to touch the comedy gold that is the McPoyles, or Frank dropping acid and getting trapped in an RV, or Sweet Dee getting all ‘roided out, or Frank and Charlie fighting over who pooped the bed. Or “Nightman”, for Thor’s sake.

Over the past couple of years, the cast members have had children (Kaitlyn Olson (Sweet Dee) and Rob McElhenney (Mac) married each other and have two kids; Charlie Day is married to Mary Elizabeth Ellis (the Waitress), and since then, it’s almost seemed like their hearts haven’t been in it. Although, Rob gaining fifty pounds to play Fat Mac is up there in terms of commitment.

But it seems like the old crew might be ready to knock us out with the upcoming season, as they’ve put together a charming little promo for the show under the guise that they’ve all been replaced by the most random group of people ever (except Haley Osment as Mac. That one I called years ago).

The new season begins Thursday, October 11th on FX.
