  • Irvington Shooting Leaves 3 Dead Christmas Morning

Three men are dead and two more injured after an argument lead to gunfire outside Slick’s Go-Go in Irvington, NJ, on Christmas morning.

The Star Ledger reports that the shooting took place around 12:45 a.m.

Woodley Daniel, 32, of Hillside, a bouncer at the bar, told the gun man and another man to leave after feeling a gun on the man while patting him down. According to reports, the man stepped back and shot Woodley.

He then shot Pierre Clervoyant Jr., 34, of Elizabeth, the manager and son of the owner,
    outside the bar.

Both were pronounced dead at University Hospital in Newark, as was a third victim, Mushir Cureton, 27, of Newark.

Pierre Clervoyant Sr., who owned Slick’s, said two men came to the bar at around 12:30 a.m. “They were clearly drunk,” said Clervoyant Sr. so his son approached the men “to calm the situation down.” When the argument with Daniel moved outside, one of the men pulled out a gun and fired, he said, killing Daniel and Clervoyant Jr., fatally wounding Cureton and injuring two others.

Outside the Hillside home of Woodley Daniel Wednesday afternoon, at least a dozen friends and relatives gathered to mourn the victim.

“We were born several days apart,” said Daniel’s cousin, Noah Joseph, 32. “Our mothers carried us in their wombs at the same time.” Joseph said Daniel was originally from Irvington and had moved to Hillside.

“He was very loved,” Joseph said. “He had many nieces and nephews and he was a father to all of them. He was a good man with a heart of gold. Anyone who knows him will say that about him. He was a protector. He was a hero.”

“He was trying to be the peacemaker,” said Stephanie Clervoyant, 25, the sister of the bar manager.

Candice Clervoyant, a maternity nurse at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston and the wife of Clervoyant Jr said, “Everyone knew Pierre because of his smile. He was better than a great father,” she said. “He was excellent. He was kind and compassionate.” They have a daughter who turned six on Sunday.

Clervoyant also worked for the city of Elizabeth, in the Office of Aging, which runs programs for senior citizens.

Elizabeth Mayor Christian Bollwage called him “A great young man who had everything going for him,” in an e-mail.

  • Irvington Shooting: Victims Named, Reward Offered

At 12:30 AM on Christmas morning, persons who were both armed and intoxicated were escorted from Slick’s Go Go’s in Irvington, NJ. Without warning, someone pulled out a gun and began shooting. In the aftermath of the violence, three men were pronounced dead at University Hospital in Newark at 1:00 AM and two more were admitted due to being caught in the crossfire.

It is a senseless tragedy that has produced far more questions than answers. Local law enforcement believe there’s a possibility that at least two or more people are responsible for the shooting, which is thought to have erupted after the armed suspects were denied entry to the club. This matches statements made about the shooting by the bar owner, who added that the reason they were not allowed inside was because “they were clearly drunk.” Chief Anthony Ambrose of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office stated that in addition to being intoxicated, the men were clearly armed, leading the bouncer to ask them to step away from the business before the suspect or suspects opened fire.

The three men who were killed early yesterday have since been identified. Pierre Clervoyant Jr., 34, was the son of the Slick’s Go Go bar owner, Pierre, Sr. and the second victim was a bouncer, Woodley Daniel, 32. The third victim was identified a short while later, Mushir Cureton, 27, of Newark.

As the victims and their families await answers, they try and comfort each other and remember those lost over the holiday season.

“Everyone knew Pierre because of his smile,” says Clervoyant’s wife, Candice. “He was always smiling.”

When he wasn’t helping to manage his father’s bar, Clervoyant also worked for the city of Elizabeth in the office of the aging. He was dedicated to programs which helped the senior citizens of the community.

Exact details surrounding the Irvington shooting remain sketchy. Witnesses described a gray sedan leaving the scene. In an attempt to get more information, police have offered a $10,000 reward for tips that would help in the investigation and lead to capturing whoever is responsible.

  • Irvington Shooting: NJ’s Unsolved Christmas Tragedy

The Star-Ledger tells us of a shooting outside of a strip club in Irvington, New Jersey on Christmas morning that left three men dead and two wounded.

A bouncer was first killed in the line of duty a little after 12:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. Woodley Daniel was attempting to escort drunken armed guests from Slick’s Go Go Bar when the gunman stepped back and opened fire. Pierre Clervoyant Jr., the son of the club’s owner, likely tried to assist the situation and was shot and killed shortly after.

The third victim, Mushir Cureton, has just recently died from his shooting injuries.

Known as a “hole-in-the-wall” bar, the club has endured a recent fatality in a similar manner in 2010. Neighbors have told reporters that the neighborhood is becoming more dangerous every day.

Not much information can be found on Woodley Daniel, but he honorably lost his life trying to protect approximately 100 people that were inside of the club. Pierre Clervoyant Jr. leaves behind a wife and young child at his death.

There is a $10,000 reward for information that assists in a suspect’s arrest; the only information authorities have as of now is that the two suspects possibly fled the Essex County strip club in a grey sedan immediately after the incident.
