  • Alanis Morissette Bares Breast in Throwback Photo for World Breastfeeding Week

Alanis Morissette bared her breast in a recent throwback photo. She is shown breastfeeding her son Ever, who is now three years old, in support of World Breastfeeding Week–August 1st through August 7th.

Back in 2012 Alanis Morissette joined the debate over attachment parenting while talking with Good Morning America. At that time she addressed the effect of the recent Time magazine cover, and the stages of ‘appropriate’ childhood development. When asked if she would breastfeed her son, who was 17-months old at the time, even at five or six years old, she said she would, and that she would stop breastfeeding him whenever he wanted. She didn’t really care what other people thought. That, of course, is very true to Morissette’s view on just about everything, and just part of why she is so beloved by her fans.

“Some kids naturally stop at two, some stop at a couple of years later, it’s up to the child. I will stop when he says it’s time to stop,” she said back then. “For me, I protect his safety and his well-being and his attachment. That stage of development is a very important stage.”

Alanis captioned the breastfeeding shot, “family on tour đŸ˜‰ europe 2012 #worldbreastfeedingweek #isupportyou”

It seems the singer was in a mood for reminiscing in addition to supporting World Breastfeeding Week. She also shared this shot depicting the photo shoot for the cover of her album, ‘Jagged Little Pill.’

“The photoshoot for the cover of #jaggedlittlepill. We were up high on a cliff in Malibu. I had just moved to LA. I was 20 years old. There was much giddiness buzzing all around me. All I knew was that I wrote a record that I loved and represented me well. I was unwilling to stop until I had. I collaborated with many co-writers in both canada and america and persevered until I was in an environment that had no agenda for me other than that I was expressed well. I found this when I met glen ballard…who supported me in being ME. God bless him. And God bless this time period,” she captioned the photo.

Alanis Morissette has a lot to remember–and to be thankful for–with regard to ‘Jagged Little Pill.’ Both a commercial and critical success, the album sold over 33 million copies worldwide and even won the Grammy Award for Album Of The Year in 1996. Hit singles from the album include ‘You Oughta Know,’ ‘Hand In My Pocket,’ ‘Ironic,’ ‘You Learn,’ ‘Head Over Feet,’ and ‘All I Really Want.’

The singer has gone on to release five additional albums since that time.

Alanis Morissette’s throwback Thursday pics and memories aren’t just fun to recall–they’re insightful, too. What’s your take on breastfeeding? Do you support World Breastfeeding Week? Did or will you breastfeed your child or support a woman who did or will?
