  • The iPhone 5S May Come In Multiple Sizes [Report]

One of the most prevalent rumors surrounding the next iPhone is that Apple is working on a larger phone. Some suggest that the larger display won’t come into play until next year’s iPhone 6, but others are now suggesting that we’ll get a larger iPhone with this year’s iPhone 5S.

Brian White, analyst for Topeka Capital Markets, said that Apple will release the iPhone 5S with three separate screen sizes. He reportedly got his information from a company in Apple’s supply chain.

“We believe Apple is coming around to the fact that one size per iPhone release does not work for everyone and offering consumers an option has the potential to expand the company’s market share,” White said.

This isn’t the first time that White has predicted the iPhone 5S will come in multiple screen sizes. He said the same thing back in January, while adding that Apple would be using Sharp’s new IGZO display panels for the larger screens. He also said that the iPhone 5S would be offered in more colors than just the traditional black and white.

White also addressed the persistent rumor that Apple will be releasing a cheaper iPhone this year for the Chinese market. Some rumors suggested that Apple would go as low as $99 for the cheaper device, but White says that Apple can’t possibly go below $300 without a subsidy. The reason being that Apple never sells at a loss or at cost. Even if it’s cheaper, Apple has to make a tidy profit on every iPhone sold to keep investors happy.

All of this is speculation for now, but we may find out more about the mythical iPhone 5S sooner rather than later. The latest rumors peg the iPhone 5S release date for June. If that’s the case, we could see a reveal in late May/early June.

  • Yeah Yeah Yeahs Want You to Put Your Damn iPhone Away

Heading to a Yeah Yeah Yeahs concert in the near future?

You better leave that smartphone in your pocket.

“Please do not watch the show through a screen on your smart device/camera,” says the band. “Put that shit away!”

SPIN magazine tweeted out this hilarious sign posted by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs at a recent show in New York.

    (image)

I know it’s tempting, but they’re right. Live life through your own eyes. Maybe snap a photo or two, but you’re going to want to put away your smartphone for most of the show. If not for you and your experiences, at least do it for the guy behind you that may “accidentally” pour his beer down the back fo your shirt.

  • You Can Play Injustice: Gods Among Us Right Now… On Your iPhone

Injustice: Gods Among Us, the DC fighter from NetherRealm Studios, isn’t set to launch on consoles until April 26. If you really need your Injustice fix now, however, you might want to try the recently released game for iOS.

Thankfully, the iOS version of Injustice isn’t a poorly constructed fighting game for mobile platforms. Instead, the team has created a thoughtful title that combines the cinematic fights of its console brother with an accessible collectible card game mechanic that players can use to level up their fighters.

As an added bonus, Injustice for iOS unlocks exclusive content in the console version of the game. It’s not being said what can be unlocked, but it’s probably a few costumes or other aesthetic rewards. Still, it’s better than nothing.

You can grab Injustice for iOS here. It’s a free-to-play title supported by microtransactions that aren’t exactly micro. There’s something definitely wrong when an in-game item costs $100, but that debate is for another time.

  • Apple CEO Apologizes To Chinese Consumers

Apple CEO Apologizes To Chinese Consumers

Apple CEO Tim Cook apologized to China this week in a letter posted to the company’s Chinese site. The apology is for the company’s lack of communication with regards to its warranty policies for the iPhone 4 and 4S.

The apology comes after customers in the country complained of not getting the same treatment as those in the U.S. who get full replacements from the company when they get a defective device. Chinese customers were only getting their devices repaired with replacement parts.

This is the second apology Apple’s CEO has had to issue in recent memory. Cook also apologized for the lackluster Apple Maps product that accompanied iOS 6. This was the subject of numerous complaints from users who were used to Apple’s previous Google Maps-based offering.

Here’s the full text of the new letter as translated by Google Translate (obviously it’s not perfect):

    To our Chinese consumers:

In the past two weeks, we have received a lot of feedback about Apple in China repair and warranty policy. We are not only a profound reflection on these views, together with relevant departments to carefully study the “Three Guarantees”, and also look at our maintenance policy communication and combing our management specifications of Apple Authorized Service Provider. We are aware that, due to the lack of external communication in this process and lead to the speculation that Apple arrogance, do not care or do not attach importance to consumer feedback. We express our sincere apologies for any concerns or misunderstandings this gives consumers.

In order to further improve the level of service, we are implementing the following four major adjustment:

Improved iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S repair policy
Provide a concise and clear on the website of the official Apple repair and warranty policy statement
Increase the intensity of the supervision and training of Apple Authorized Service Provider
Related issues to ensure that consumers can easily contact Apple Feedback Service
At the same time, we also realize that operating in China, and communicate much we need to learn the place. Here, we assure you, Apple for the commitment and enthusiasm indistinguishable from other countries. Bring the best user experience for consumers and satisfactory service is our ideals, our commitment, and it has been deeply rooted in Apple’s corporate culture. We will make unremitting efforts to achieve this goal.

iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S repair policy improvements are as follows:
So far, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S repair this in one of three ways: as from the purchase date of 15 days found the problem, we will be entitled to a refund or replacement for consumers recalculated 1 year warranty period iPhone; 15 days after discovery problem, Apple will replace the part depending, such as camera modules or batteries; replacement parts also can not quickly repaired the iPhone, Apple will provide consumers with a part reassembled new parts, retaining only the consumers existing iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S back cover.

Nearly 90% of customers expressed satisfaction with our repair services, and consumer satisfaction is the most important criterion for Apple to measure its own success.

But others suggested that part of the re-assembly of repair almost replace the machine, so the direct replacement of a device will be more beneficial to consumers. Therefore, since April 2013, Apple iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S service pack upgrade for all 1-year warranty on new equipment replacement parts and replacement date recalculated.

Consumer iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider has been part of the re-assembly kit maintenance, we will replace them as whole and for maintenance after the iPhone recalculated from the date of repair year warranty. Apple’s warranty system has been updated for the information and, therefore, affected consumers do not need to take any additional action.

Now, all consumers can see on our site clear and comprehensive maintenance and warranty policy terms and conditions.
We are pleased to provide consumers with information who wish to learn more about the after-sales service. For example, we have been to provide 2 year warranty for the MacBook Air and Mac computer motherboards and other major components. Likewise, the the iPad main components has been entitled to a 2-year warranty period, and other components for 1 year warranty.

We realize that our site before this is not clearly stated policy. Hope the following will answer all the questions about Apple provides services.

Apple is to make greater efforts to ensure that Apple Authorized Service Provider to follow our policies, and make every effort to provide consumers with the highest quality service.
Week since March 18, 2013, we made a new training materials for all Apple Authorized Service Provider to ensure that each staff provide services for Apple products is not only familiar with our policies, but also to grasp three guarantees “provisions and related policies. The same time, we have taken the initiative through face-to-face meetings and other forms of verification and to ensure that each Apple Authorized Service Provider have opened training courses to update the knowledge of the staff for the maintenance and warranty policies. We will make unremitting efforts and continuous monitoring of the performance of the Apple Authorized Service Provider to ensure that consumers can get the highest quality service.

Now, the feedback service-related issues is also very convenient.
As the consumers of the services provided by any Apple Store retail store or an Apple authorized service provider doubt, to Welcome www.apple.com.cn/support/service/feedback/ directly get in touch with us. Our goal is to consumers where to buy Apple products or receive services, users can enjoy world-class experience.

Heartfelt thank you to give us valuable feedback, we always harbor immense respect to China, the Chinese consumer is always the top priority of our hearts.

  • T-Mobile Lets You Put $99 Down On iPhone 5

T-Mobile Lets You Put $99 Down On iPhone 5

Not only did T-Mobile announce the availability of the iPhone 5 today, but it announced that consumers can put $99 down on the device, with monthly payments to make up the difference ($20 per month for 24 months). And that’s with no annual service contract plus unlimited talk, text and Web and 4G.

The device will be available from Friday, April 12.

In addition, T-Mobile is offering the iPhone 4S for $69.99 down and $20 per month for 24 months and the iPhone 4 for $14.99 down and $15 per month for 24 months.

While the 4S and 4 will be available in select markets, the iPhone 5 will be available nationwide.

“This is an important day for people who love their iPhone but can’t stand the pain other carriers put them through to own one,” said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile USA. “We feel their pain. I’ve felt the pain. So we’re rewriting the rules of wireless to provide a radically simple, affordable iPhone 5 experience — on an extremely powerful network.”

T-Mobile also announced today a new simplified rate plan, and eliminated the need for customers to enter into contracts.

  • iPhone 5S Rumor: Launch Could Come As Early As June

Earlier this month, a rumor suggested that we’d be seeing the iPhone 5S launch in August. Other rumors have backed the claim up, but an analyst has come forward with speculation that we could be seeing the iPhone 5S even sooner.

In a recent investors note, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster said that Apple will likely launch the iPhone 5S in late June. He also predicts that Apple will sell 4 million units before the end of the month. As for total iPhone sales, he expects those to be around 30 million by the end of the June quarter.

Beyond his speculation of an earlier release date, Munster doesn’t really offer much in the way of new information in regards to the iPhone 5S. He regurgitates previous rumors that state the new iPhone will feature updated specs and whatever the next version of iOS brings to the table. He also suspects that Apple will incorporate NFC into the iPhone 5S.

With all this talk about the iPhone 5S, it’s easy to forget that Apple may be launching a cheaper iPhone this year as well. A report from earlier this year suggested that the device would meld the designs of the iPod Touch and iPod Classic for a plastic chassis iPhone that would significantly reduce manufacturing costs. Munster predicts that we’ll be seeing this cheaper iPhone at some point in September, and that it will cost $250. Don’t expect it to see it in the U.S., though, as the phone is reportedly targeted exclusively at emerging markets like China and South America.

Outside of phones, Munster drops some new speculation about the Apple TV and the rumored iWatch. He suspects that the oft-rumored Apple TV will finally be announced later this year with an iWatch announcement coming soon after.

Like always, you should take anything analysts say with a grain of salt. They are only providing guidance to investors, and can be wrong. That being said, a June launch for the iPhone 5S would help Apple better combat the impending launch of the Galaxy S 4 and other top-tier Android handsets launching in the next few months.

  • iPhone 5S Launches In August, New iPads Due Next Month [Rumor]

Following yesterday’s rumor of an August 2013 release for the iPhone 5S, iMore reports that another source has confirmed the information. That’s now two reports saying that we should expect the iPhone in August. All of this could turn out false, but two reports confirming the same month seems pretty legitimate.

Aside from launch date rumors, the iPhone 5S’ general design is also touched upon. It’s reported that the 5S will have the same basic design of the current iPhone 5, but feature a spec bump comparable to the bump seen between the iPhone 4 and 4S. It’s specifically mentioned that the iPhone 5S will be getting a better camera, and hopefully one that doesn’t suffer from purple tint.

Interestingly enough, iMore is reporting that Apple may be revealing its next iPad in April. We’ve already heard that the next iPad would be a marked improvement over last year’s surprising, but underwhelming, fourth generation iPad.

It’s also rumored that the company will announce a new iPad Mini next month as well, but it’s unknown if it will feature a retina display.

I don’t know if we should expect a new iPad this early in the year, but Apple has generally announced at least one major product during the first few months of the past few years. Last year’s announcement was for the expansion of iBooks into educational materials, and a similar announcement, alongside new iPads to compliment the feature, would make sense for this year.

  • Chrome For iOS Updated With New Features

Chrome For iOS Updated With New Features

Last week, Chrome for Android received a pretty substantial update that added a slew of new features to the mobile browser. At the time, I suggested a similar update would hit iOS sooner rather than later. Google didn’t disappoint as the company has released a new version of Chrome for iOS today.

Unlike the Chrome for Android update, the newest version of Chrome for iOS focuses on adding new functionality to the browser instead of additions to its HTML5 capabilities. The big new feature is a revamp to how searches are displayed in Chrome for iOS. Now you can see your search term in the Omnibox instead of Chrome displaying a long URL.

Chrome For iOS Updated With New Features

Google says that they’ll be rolling out the above change to search over the next few weeks so don’t freak out if you don’t see it immediately after updating. What you will see immediately after updating, however, are two new features that should make any Chrome user happy:

To quickly view your tab history, simply press and hold the back button to access any page you had previously visited from that tab. Head to “Menu” then “Share” to share a web page via email or to your favorite social network. Now you can also share any web page via Messages.

You can grab the newly updated Chrome for iOS here. If you missed the Chrome for Android update from last week, you can grab that here.

  • Apple’s ‘iWatch’ Could Be Out As Soon As This Year

Apple is known to launch several products throughout the year, but this year may be the first time that Apple will launch two iPhones in the same year. To compliment these devices, Apple may be launching its oft-rumored iWatch later this year as well.

Bloomberg reports that Apple is planning to launch its iWatch at some point later in the year. It’s unknown if the device will be shown off alongside the iPhone 5S’ rumored August reveal, or if Apple would wait to show it off at its own event. I’m more inclined to the latter as Apple likes to give completely new products, like last year’s iPad Mini, their own press event.

As for the iWatch itself, a few more details on the device have leaked out. According to a course close to Apple, the team of 100 product designers working on the iWatch are considering a number of features to be implemented into the device. Some of the features include the ability to make calls, caller ID for incoming calls, checking map coordinates and a pedometer. The latter would obviously be used in conjunction with fitness apps on the iOS.

Speaking of iOS, some speculate that the iWatch would run a slimmed down version of Apple’s mobile operating system. The smaller screen ensures that the iWatch wouldn’t be able to take on all of the duties of the iPhone, but the integration of iOS would mean that it could at least work with iPhones to provide a complimentary experience that could extend far beyond simple functions like incoming calls. For example, an iOS game could use the iWatch as a secondary input for when players can’t take their iPhone out.

With both the iWatch and Google Glass reportedly launching later this year, we may see the first wave of market fights in wearable computing. The iWatch would obviously be cheaper than the $1,499 Google Glass, but it remains to be seen if consumers would pay upwards of $200 for a watch to go along with their iPhone. It worked for Pebble (pictured above), so it’s safe to assume that Apple will at least have some success with it.

  • New iPhone Release Date Set For August 2013 [Rumor]

The new iPhone release date is one of the last pieces of the rumor puzzle that we have yet to put together. There’s been no clear indication when the new wonder device from Apple will launch, but a recent rumor indicates that it may be out before the end of summer.

AppleInsider reports that the iPhone 5S release date is set for sometime in August. It’s claimed that the cheaper iPhone will be out in August as well. It would be a first to have two iPhones released in the same year, let alone the same month.

The iPhone 5S is reportedly being marketed as a world phone. In short, the device will work on any network in any market without any significant internal modifications. If Apple could get enough supply built in time, we could see a same day global launch. That would be a big deal for Apple as past iPhone releases were tiered over several months as it built iPhones specifically for each market’s wireless networks.

Speaking of China, the rumored cheaper iPhone will reportedly be built to work on China Mobile’s LTE. That furthers the rumors that this cheaper iPhone is being built specifically for the Chinese market. It’s not known if Apple will release its cheaper iPhone in other emerging markets, like South America and India.

So, now we have a release date, but what about the price? The cheaper iPhone was originally reported to cost as little as $99, but the new rumor pegs its unsubsidized price at $330. The low price is the result of Apple building the device out of polycarbonate. The company may also be using last generation components to keep prices low.

  • Photoshop Touch Now Available For Smartphones

Photoshop Touch Now Available For Smartphones

Photoshop Touch is the very popular version of Adobe’s photo editing program built specifically for mobile devices in mind. Unfortunately, the app was only available for tablets, but now Adobe has managed to squeeze it onto phones.

Adobe announced that Photoshop Touch is now available on the iPhone (4S and 5 only) and Android (4.0 and up only) smartphones. The app costs $4.99, and features a new UI that’s built specifically for smartphones. That being said, it features almost all of the same features and toolsets from the tablet app:

Much like the tablet version, Photoshop Touch on the phone has core Photoshop features like layers, advanced selections tools, adjustments and filters. We also packed in features exclusive to Photoshop Touch, like Scribble Selection for high-precision selections using only your finger, and Camera Fill for real-time creative blending of your camera feed with layers. This app features the same creative filters as the tablet version, like Color Drops and Acrylic Paint, and also a new Ripple filter.

Photoshop Touch also takes advantage of Adobe’s Creative Cloud to allow creators to share projects across different devices:

With Photoshop Touch and the Adobe Creative Cloud, I can start a project on my phone, continue it on my tablet, and polish it off at my desk in Photoshop CS6. Photoshop Touch will automatically keep my projects in sync on each device, at the full resolution and with all the layers intact. This capability is available to every customer with a free Creative Cloud account. There is no paid subscription requirement for syncing.

You can grab Photoshop Touch right now on the Apple App Store and Google Play. It may just be what you need to touch up that Instagram photo with some extra filters before you upload it.

  • Source No Longer Claims To Have Leaked ‘iPhone 5S’ Motherboard Images [Updated]

Update: iOSDoc, which first published these photos has now come out and said they found out they are fake. More from them here.

Every so often, we see sources indicating that they have leaked images of Apple’s new devices, and the iPhone 5S (or iPhone 6, or whatever you want to call it at this point) is no different. Obviously, they’re not always legit, so a grain of salt is always required.

Recently, some assembly line photos showed an alleged look at the device, but were later reported to be “likely an iPhone 5 clone”.

Now, iOSDoc claims to have received some new photos from a “very reliable source,” showing an A7 quad-core CPU and GPU, and 2GB of RAM.

    Alleged leaked motherboard photo

    iOSDoc says:

The iPhone 5S will come with a new quad-core Apple A7 processor, clocked at 1.2Ghz and iOS 7. The phone’s design will probably be very much similar to the iPhone 5, getting only hardware and software improvements. iOS 7 will also come with a highly improved Siri, able to “do a lot of new cool stuff.” Unfortunately our source didn’t want to speak very much about this aspect.

The new A7 SoC was to be expected, but we didn’t anything until now about the amount of cores or clock rate. It should be much faster than Apple’s dual-core A6, which is clocked at 1.3Ghz. A7 will also feature the PowerVR quad-core SGX554MP4 graphics processor, also featured in the 4th generation iPad. This amount of power will definitely be able to widen the possibilities of gaming, but should get us worried about battery life.

Obviously we can can’t confirm the legitimacy of the image, so take it as you will.

  • That Bigger iPhone Won’t Be Out This Year [Rumor]

Despite claims to the contrary, it’s pretty much all but confirmed that Apple is working on a bigger iPhone. Previous reports had pegged the launch of this larger iPhone for next year, and a new report further corroborates the story.

AppleInsider says a recent report from Jefferies analyst Peter Misek found that Apple is indeed planning on launching a larger iPhone. The new device will reportedly feature a 4.8-inch screen, similar to the display found in rival Samsung’s Galaxy S IV. What’s interesting about this latest report, however, is that Apple was reportedly trying to get the bigger iPhone out this year before it ran into supply issues.

Misek’s report found that Apple tried to bump the phone into an October launch, but recently ran into trouble with its suppliers. They’re reportedly having trouble scaling the 4-inch display of the iPhone 5 to a 4.8-inch display. The issue has caused Apple to cancel its plans for a launch this year, and wait to launch the larger iPhone next year.

So, if Apple was planning on launching a larger iPhone this year, why did Apple CEO Tim Cook defend the size of the iPhone 5 earlier this year? Misek believes that Cook was trying to downplay any rumors of a larger screen size to keep people from waiting for the next iPhone instead of buying the iPhone 5.

Beyond display size, Misek’s report also features some details on what we can expect hardware wise from 2014’s iPhone. Apple is reportedly skipping the 28nm fabrication process entirely to build a 20nm processor that will feature four to eight cores instead of the dual-core now found in the iPhone 5. 2014’s iPhone may also feature an OLED screen, which would allow Apple to make the device thinner and less power hungry.

All of this is rumor for now, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility to see a larger iPhone in 2014. What about 2013 though? Will we see any major changes to the iPhone 5S that’s rumored for this year? All current rumors point to Apple not making any significant design changes, but this year may see the release of a cheaper, plastic iPhone designed for China and other emerging markets.

  • This ‘iphone’ From Brazil Runs Android, Much To Apple’s Chagrin

Most of us know the iPhone to be Apple’s prized smartphone – the device that ushered in the current mobile era we’re experiencing. Unfortunately for Apple, a different company has the rights to the “IPHONE” name in Brazil.

That company is IGB Eletrônica SA (Gradiente), and it applied for the “IPHONE” trademark all the back in 2000. Apple released its first iPhone in 2007. The Wall Street Journal reports that the agency who oversees patents in Brazil said that it denied Apple’s trademark application because of IGB’s rights to the name. Matthew Cowley and Loretta Chao report:

Marcelo Chimento, spokesman for Brazil’s National Institute of Industrial Property, or INPI, said Apple is contesting the decision, charging that Gradiente failed to make use of the trademark within a five-year window, as required by Brazilian trademark law. An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment.

Apple Defends Proxy in Response to Greenlight Suit Unlike in the U.S., Brazilian trademark regulations stipulate that registrations be rewarded on a first-come, first-served basis, regardless of which party used the trademark first, or which party brings more value and recognition to the brand.

The company, according to the Journal, only utilized its “iphone” power a few weeks before the deadline for when it was required to actually use it to keep the trademark. They used it to put out a device running Android, called the “iphone neo one”. Here’s a look:

  • Home Depot Drops BlackBerry In Favor Of Apple’s iPhone

When it was unveiled, BlackBerry 10 was seen as the shining light for RIM BlackBerry as it heads back to the path of profitability. The platform’s fans think this is the one that will succeed, but the company still has a major problem ahead of it. It’s traditionally strong enterprise customer base is shrinking.

Tom’s Hardware reports that Home Depot is taking its employees off BlackBerry in favor of Apple’s iPhone. It’s a pretty hard hit for the company as Home Depot had 10,000 employees on the BlackBerry platform. It’s unknown if the transition to the iPhone occurred before or after the BlackBerry 10 announcement.

This isn’t the first major loss for BlackBerry as other major businesses and government agencies have been moving their employees off BlackBerry in favor of iOS or Android devices. Late last year, Yahoo kickstarted the migration away from BlackBerry when the company offered to buy every employee a smartphone, but only offered iPhones or Android devices. Soon after, government consulting firm Booz Allen and the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board also moved their employees off of BlackBerry.

Despite all of this bad news, BlackBerry 10 may be doing decently well. BlackBerry announced last week that first day sales of the Z10 was the best the company had ever seen. In a statement to Tom’s Hardware, the company also said that “over 2,7000 unique businesses in North America already registered for our BlackBerry 10 Ready Program.”

In short, BlackBerry is losing business, and that’s a bad thing. To counter this, it’s Z10 handsets seem to be doing decently well, and it still has quite a few Enterprise customers. That’s a good thing. We’ll have to wait a bit longer to see if the good outweighs the bad when BlackBerry 10 launches across all major carriers in the U.S. next month.

  • Apple Is Working On Its Own Smart Watch [Report]

The smart watch is a good idea that has yet to hit the mainstream. It seems that consumers just don’t really see the need for a watch that syncs with their smartphones just yet. That may all change if Apple gets into the game, and a recent report suggests the company is doing just that.

Bloomberg reports that Apple has a team of over 100 product designers currently working on a smart watch. The device will reportedly handle some of the functions that are already performed by the iPhone. If it’s like other smart watches, it will also presumably sync with an iPhone or iPad to provide information such as texts, messages and other relevant information directly on the watch’s display.

Why would Apple be investing in a smart watch though? They’re not exactly taking off into the mainstream. The prohibitive cost for something that does very little, while needing to be charged every day, isn’t exactly what consumers are looking for. Would Apple be able to circumvent these problems, and emerge with another product that the masses will lap up?

Former Apple employee Bruce Tognazzini certainly thinks so. He wrote in a blog post last week that an “iWatch” would “fill a gaping hole in the Apple ecosystem.” He also said that the value of such a product would “be underestimated at launch” but then “grow to have a profound impact on our lives and Apple’s fortunes.”

This all merely rumor and speculation for now. An iWatch, as its presumably called, does sound like the natural evolution of the iOS platform. Google is already heavily invested in wearable computing, so it’s only natural to assume that Apple is investing in it as well.

  • iOS 6.1 Update May Be Causing iPhone Battery Woes

iOS 6.1 went out to iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users at the end of January. The update added LTE capabilities to 36 more iPhone carriers and 23 more iPad carriers around the world. That’s all well and good, but the update may have brought a nasty little bug on board as well.

Macworld reports that iOS 6.1 may be adversely affecting battery life in phones upgraded to the latest operating system. Complaints are reportedly popping up on forums all over the Internet. It seems that those who are worse affected are seeing their battery drain in about hours after a full charge.

So, what’s causing the problem? Nobody knows for sure, but many are theorizing that it could be a bug that’s causing an infinite loop with Exchange mail servers. Some are reporting this to be the case as the problem went away after they deleted their exchange and iCloud accounts, and then adding them back after a reboot. The problem also seems to have been fixed for those who reinstalled iOS 6.1.

If you’ve already installed iOS 6.1 and are experiencing battery issues, you may want to try one of these potential solutions. If neither work, you’re probably going to have to wait until Apple issues a fix.

If you have yet to update to iOS 6.1, you’re probably better off waiting until Apple issues the fix. There’s no reason to update when there’s a chance a bug will render your phone’s battery worthless.

  • New iOS 6.1 Adds Fandango Movie Purchasing To Siri’s Capabilities

Back in November, developers who were beta testing Apple’s iOS 6.1 indicated that in the then upcoming version of Apple’s operating system, Siri would let users purchase movie tickets through Fandango. Now, Apple has released the iOS update to all users. Sure enough, Fandango has announced the functionality.

    Here’s a bit from Fandango’s announcement:

iOS 6.1 makes it convenient to purchase tickets through Fandango’s award-winning mobile app. Using iOS devices, moviegoers simply ask Siri to find a specific movie, nearby theaters or desired showtimes. Siri then offers the option to “Buy Tickets” and launches the Fandango app for customers to complete their ticket purchase. For added convenience, moviegoers can add their Paperless Mobile Tickets to Passbook, which lets them scan their iPhone or iPod touch to get into the movie at select theaters.

“Fandango is committed to innovating across all platforms and helping shape the future of moviegoing,” said Paul Yanover , President of Fandango. “With this new Siri feature, movie fans can quickly and easily discover the nearest theaters, find the most convenient showtimes, and buy tickets through Fandango to help make movie night perfect.”

    Siri movie ticket purchases

The feature can be used on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices (though we may see Siri make her way to Macs at some point).

  • That Cheap iPhone 5 Will Borrow Design Elements From The iPod Touch And iPod Classic [Report]

A cheaper iPhone 5 for emerging markets has been hinted at for a while now. Apple has denied all such rumors, but a recent report from iLounge suggests otherwise.

After revealing pretty much everything about Apple’s latest redesign for the next-generation iPad, iLounge’s Jeremy Horwitz now has the scoop on the cheap iPhone 5 that’s been rumored since early this year. He confirms a number of rumors about the device that we’ve been hearing for a while now, but there’s some new information to be had as well.

First and foremost, the cheap iPhone 5 will indeed be made out of plastic. That being said, Horwitz says that it won’t just be an iPhone 5 made out of plastic. The new device will reportedly borrow design elements from several products of Apple’s past and present to create a pretty unique device.

According to Horwitz, the cheap iPhone 5 will still remain about the same size as its more expensive brother. Specifically, the cheaper version will only about half-millimeter taller, half-millimeter wider and a half-millimeter thicker. The display will still be 4-inches, just like the iPhone 5. Since most people won’t notice the size difference, the cheaper iPhone 5 will look almost identical to the current iPhone 5 from the front.

The device’s design, however, will reportedly change once you start to look at the side, back and bottom of the device. For starters, the curves of the device will be more similar to that of the iPod classic in that the back and sides are flat, but connected by a curve. The volume buttons on the side will also shift from the circular buttons of the iPhone 5 to the elongated pill designs of the iPod Touch.

Finally, the back of the device will feature a camera, microphone and rear flash that are almost identical to the layout of the iPhone 5. The bottom is also similar to the iPhone 5 in that it features a headphone port, Lightning port, bottom microphone and speaker in roughly the same positions.

The cheap iPhone 5 isn’t the only iPhone coming out this year. The next iteration, dubbed the iPhone 5S, is also reportedly on the way later this year. Check here for more details.
