  • iOS 7 Update Hits iPhones, iPads & iPods Today

    Update: A lot of people are having trouble downloading the update.

    The long-anticipated iOS 7 update comes to various iDevices today. The new operating system was first unveiled earlier this year at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, and the release date was made official at the iPhone 5s/5c unveiling earlier this month.

    Starting today, the update will be available for free for iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, iPad mini and iPod touch (fifth generation). US English, French and German will be immediately available with additional languages to be added over time.

    “iOS 7 is completely redesigned with an entirely new user interface and over 200 new features, so it’s like getting a brand new device, but one that will still be instantly familiar to our users,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “Next month we’ll be shipping our 700 millionth iOS device, and we’re excited about what our hundreds of thousands of iOS developers are doing to bring great new features to their apps.”

    200 new features. That’s a lot to take in. You can learn about a bunch of them here, but here are the big ones Apple is highlighting:

    • Control Center, which gives you quick access to the controls you want in one convenient place with just one swipe from the bottom of your screen;
    • Notification Center, now available from the Lock screen so you can see all your notifications with a simple swipe, and the new Today feature gives you an at-a-glance view of your day with a summary of the important details such as weather, traffic, meetings and events;
    • improved Multitasking that gives users the ability to switch between their apps in a more visual and intuitive way, and iOS 7 pays attention to which apps you use most and automatically keeps your content up to date in the background;
    • AirDrop, an entirely new way to quickly and easily share content with people nearby;
    • new Camera app filters so you can add real-time photo effects, a square camera option, and you can quickly and easily switch between your four cameras—video, photo, square and panorama—with just a swipe;
    • a redesigned Photos app that introduces Moments, a new way to automatically organize your photos and videos based on time and location;
    • full-screen browsing with Safari’s new redesigned user interface, the new smart search field helps simplify searching, and there’s a new view for your bookmarks and your Safari tabs;
      Siri with new male and female voices,* Twitter search integration, Wikipedia integration and Bing web searching within the app; and
    • iTunes Radio, a free Internet radio service featuring over 200 stations and an incredible catalog of music from the iTunes Store®, combined with features only iTunes can deliver.

    Note that not all features are supported on all devices. In the U.S., the release comes with iTunes Radio at launch.

    Here’s what people are currently saying about iOS7:

    The iPhone 5s and 5c will become available on Friday.

  • No, You Can’t Use A Disembodied Finger To Get Past The iPhone 5S’ Fingerprint Scanner

    The iPhone 5S was pretty much everything we thought it would be when it was revealed last week. All the rumors, including the fingerprint scanner, turned out to be true. That doesn’t make this kind of technology any less intriguing, however, and now people are starting to ask questions.

    For example – can a thief chop off your finger and use it to access your iPhone 5S?

    The above scenario was humorously spoofed by NMA, but it’s a serious concern. Are we going to start seeing people getting their fingers cut off alongside iPhone 5S thefts? It’s certainly a possibility as some thieves might not take the time to research the topic and find that Apple’s Touch ID system can’t be fooled so easily.

    The Unofficial Apple Weblog reports that Apple’s Touch ID system can’t be fooled by the disembodied finger of its owner simply due to the fact that the scanner relies on two aspects of human anatomy that no longer function upon tissue death – electricity and radio waves.

    For starters, the Touch ID sensor on the iPhone 5S is powered by a capacitive touch sensor. In other words, it’s powered by the small electric current that runs through every human. Upon being cut off from the main hand, a finger loses that small electric charge.

    Now, what if an incredibly intelligent thief was somehow able to generate a small charge through your disembodied finger? At that point, the scheme still wouldn’t work because the Touch ID sensor uses radio waves to scan the living tissue beneath the top layer of skin to gain your fingerprint. Upon being cut off, the scan is completely useless as it can no longer find living tissue to scan.

    So take heart future iPhone 5S owners – your data is safe even in the scenario of a thief chopping off your finger. As for any would be thieves, please don’t chop off fingers in a misinformed attempt to steal somebody’s iPhone 5S. You shouldn’t be stealing in the first place, but adding disembodiment to the mix is just not cool.

  • No iPhone 5S Pre-Orders, iPhone 5C Doesn’t Sell Out

    Earlier this week, Apple unveiled its next iPhone, the iPhone 5S. The device featured all of the upgrades that had been leaked in the weeks before the announcement. In addition, Apple unveiled a second, lower-priced, colorful iPhone called the iPhone 5C. The 5C is designed to replace the iPhone 5, and has much of the same hardware.

    The iPhone 5S did not open up for pre-orders this morning, leaving Apple fans to wait outside Apple stores on September 20. In previous years, new iPhone models have broken pre-order records on an annual basis. However, as the morning fades into afternoon, the lower-priced iPhone 5C, which is up for pre-order, is still very much available. The 5C can still be pre-ordered in each of its five colors, on every one of the top four U.S. mobile providers.

    Though market watchers and Apple fans had anticipated nearly every aspect of the iPhone 5C, the price of the device was somewhat contentious in the lead-up to this year’s iPhone presentation. The smartphone markets in the U.S. and Europe have begun to saturate, and analysts are predicting much of the market’s growth in the coming years will be from low- and mid-priced smartphones sold in emerging markets such as Brazil, India, and China. Predictions have already been made that the iPhone 5C’s price ($549 for the 16GB model, $649 for the 32GB model) is not nearly low enough to compete with cut-priced Android handsets.

    As the open pre-orders for the iPhone 5C seem to suggest, Apple may have a hard time offering products for these markets. The company, even before the advent of the iPod, has positioned itself as a premium brand with higher-priced products. Though Apple will continue to be a major influence on the smartphone market for years to come, it now appears that it will have to pioneer a new market segment if it hopes to sustain the explosive growth the company has seen over the past half-decade.

  • iPhone 5C = 5 Babies In This Taiwanese Animation Version Of Apple’s News

    NMA is at it again. The Taiwanese animation studio has put out its parody of Apple’s new iPhone 5C and 5S unveilings.

    The video includes such scenes as a woman trying to trade a baby for an iPhone 5C, only to be greeted with a sign from Tim Cook indicating that one of the devices is worth five babies. Another involves a criminal stealing somebody’s iPhone 5S, and also chopping off the victim’s finger and wearing it on a necklace to get around the fingerprint security.

    Yeah, it’s classic NMA stuff.

    Don’t worry. They’re not biased. The other day, they some fun with the Android Kit Kat announcement too.

  • Here’s What The iPhone 5S Camera Can Do [Video]

    Apple has released a video showing off the camera and related features on the new iPhone 5S. This is perhaps one of the biggest selling points of the device (which now also comes in gold).

    “Any digital camera is only as good as its sensor,” explains Dan Riccio, Apple SVP, Hardware Engineering. “While more pixels produce a bigger picture, we prefer bigger pixels because they mean an even better picture. With iPhone 5S we started with a wider f2.2 aperture. That combined with our new state of the art 8 megapixel backside-illuminated CMOS sensor that is fifteen percent larger than before means each 1.5 micron pixel can convert thirty-three percent more light into image data. This is all processed by the new A7 chip with 64-bit desktop class architecture.”

    “That’s a lot of numbers that basically mean the pictures you take will have greater dynamic range with more details in highlights and shadows and less overall noise in the image,” he adds.

    Craig Federighi, SVP Software Engineering, says, “A really great sensor is only the beginning of how iPhone 5S takes really amazing photos and video.”

    “In low light, iPhone 5S uses the new auto image stabilization,” he says. “When you press the shutter, it imperceptibly takes up to four very quick photos, intelligently merging them to reduce blurring from camera shake and subject motion. And in really low light, it uses the all new True Tone flash. iPhone 5S measures the color temperature of the available light, then fires the white and amber flashes together in just the right ratio to create a balanced image. The colors in your photos will look truer your skin tones more natural.”

    It also has photo burst mode, which captures ten images in a second when you hold down the shutter. Algorithms then help select the individual photos or sequence of photos you might like best.

    There’s also a new slow motion feature, which lets you shoot HD video in slow motion. It will let you select a specific section you want played back at a quarter speed.

    This is all in addition to the new photo-taking features offered on iOS 7, which will come on the device, and be available for other iOS devices starting on September 18th.

  • Jimmy Kimmel Convinces iSheep That an iPad Mini Is the New iPhone

    Let’s face it. Apple is going to to continue to come out with a few new products every year, and you’re just going to buy them. You’re not going to ask questions. You’re just going to buy them. You’re going to open up your sweaty wallets and fork over your hard-earned cash for whatever new iDevice that Tim Cook forces down your gullet. That’s just what’s going to happen.

    And you’re going to like it. You’re going to like it so much that you’d be willing to buy an iPhone that’s bigger than your head. Don’t lie, you know this is true.*

    Jimmy Kimmel, who has a knack for showing just how gullible the average human can be, went out on the street and convinced people that an iPad Mini is actually the new iPhone. And it was hilarious.

    Apple needs to hire that last guy, by the way. That’s a future spokesperson if I’ve ever seen one.

  • iPhone 5C: Here’s Apple’s Jony Ive And Craig Federighi Explaining Why It’s So Great (And So Plastic)

    How many times have you heard the words “unapologetically plastic” in the past 24 hours? Well, get ready to hear it one more time.

    Apple has released a five-minute video looking at the new, more inexpensive iPhone model, which comes in a variety of colors (hence the “For the colorful” tagline).

    Now, watch the parody version.

    The device appears to be aimed at markets in the developing world, but while it’s certainly less expensive than other models, some don’t think it’s cheap enough, and based on Apple’s stock, investors appear to agree.

  • iPhone 5C, or iPhone ‘Cheapass,’ Gets a Great Parody Ad

    As you may have heard, Apple unveiled its new lower-cost, plastic-bodied iPhone yesterday, called the iPhone 5C. While Twitter has already been speculating as to what that “C” might stand for, Dartanion London already figured it out a couple of days before the launch.

    They called it the “Cheapass” (pronounced Cha-Pahs).

    “We decided to use more plastic,” says Gary Miller, Minerals Scientist and Secret Keeper. “But this isn’t some garden variety material – we harvest the plastic when it’s still a baby so it’s soft and supple. It’s like the veal of plastic.”

    Great job, guys:

    Despite the iPhone 5C’s $99 price tag (with a two-year contract, of course), analysts are already saying that it’s not cheap enough to compete in emerging markets. Oh well, at least enthusiastic iPhone 5C buyers will be able to cover their plastic iPhone in a $29 plastic case. Take that, you metal-loving assholes.

  • iPhone 5C Not Cheap Enough, Says Analyst

    iPhone 5C Not Cheap Enough, Says Analyst

    Yesterday Apple held its yearly iPhone presentation, unveiling the anticipated iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C smartphones. No surprises were seen in the hardware, which had been heavily leaked in the months leading up to the announcement. The price, however, had been much debated in the lead-up to the Apple event. Now, with the lowest price of the iPhone 5C set at $99 with a two-year contract, it remains to be seen whether the colorful new device can compete in the markets Apple intends it to.

    Market research firm IHS today jumped out with a prediction on the matter, stating that the price of the iPhone 5C is not quite low enough to compete, particularly in emerging markets such as China and Brazil, where market watchers have predicted smartphone growth will be centered in the coming years. Though the price tag is low for an iPhone, the firm predicts that the unsubsidized price of the iPhone 5C will not entice buyers in the market for low cost phones. In emerging markets, Apple will be pitting the iPhone 5C against a range of even lower-priced Android-based handsets.

    “At an unsubsidized cost of $549, the iPhone 5C remains at the same price point as the existing mid-range model in Apple’s smartphone line, the iPhone 4S,” said Francis Sideco, director of the consumer electronics division at IHS. “In light of this pricing, the 5C appears to be a midrange product that cannot significantly expand the available market for the iPhone line to lower-income buyers. As a result, the arrival of the 5C will not spur a major increase in iPhone sales in the second half of 2013 compared to previous expectations.”

    Though IHS does not expect the 5C to significantly increase Apple shipments, the firm is still predicting an overall increase in Apple’s shipment numbers. It sees iPhone shipments hitting over 86 million units in the second half of 2013, up from 68 million unit shipments during the first half of the year.

  • Apple Close To Crossing ‘The 700 Million iOS Devices Shipped’ Barrier

    Apple’s iPhone event is the talk of the Internet at the moment–well, for those who aren’t talking about Miley Cyrus getting kind of naked in her new video–as people huddle around the modern-day transistor radio, waiting breathlessly for any nuggets of information regarding their next mobile device. With the announcement of some iPhone 5 updates, Apple once again delivered some wave-making information. Before that, however, Apple CEO Tim Cook took a moment to boast about his company’s success.

    During his keynote speech, Cook indicated that, by the end of next month, Apple will have shipped 700 million iOS-enabled devices. Naturally, this includes such devices like the iPhone, iPad, and the sometimes forgotten iPod Touch. When you look at a mobile operating system market share graph, you’ll quickly notice that this is clearly an “Android versus iOS” world, and the rest of the flock is struggling to catch their table scraps:

    Who knows? Maybe Microsoft’s acquisition of Nokia will shake things up a little.

    The question is, do consumers really want a viable third option, especially when you consider how companies like BlackBerry have fallen to the side, while Android and iOS have risen above the competition? Or are people so conditioned by thousands of hours of iPhone/Samsung Galaxy commercials, the other options will continue to remain on the outside, looking in, regardless of how well received their commercials are?

  • iTunes Radio Release Date Is Officially September 18th

    As one of many announcements today, Apple revealed that iTunes Radio will be available on September 18th as part of the iOS 7 update.

    Apple revealed iTunes Radio back in June when it revealed iOS 7, and it has been expected to be part of the update, but at the time, they just said it would be available in the fall. Now we have a hard date for both the operating system and Apple’s new Pandora competitor.

    We learned last month that launch partners would include McDonald’s, Nissan, Pepsi, Procter & Gamble and possibly a couple others. The deals range from “the high single-digit millions of dollars to tens of millions of dollars, and include a 12 month ad campaign,” according to a report from AdAge.

    iTunes Radio will debut with over 200 stations and a catalog of music drawing from the iTunes Store. People can listen to stations, then download the songs if they like them. It can be used from an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Mac, PC or Apple TV. It will include stations inspired by music users have already listened to, as well as stations curated by Apple and personalized genre-focused stations. Users will be able to create new stations based on specific songs.

    The service will also provide exclusive premieres from top-selling artists, and will host special events like live streams from the iTunes Festival and other exclusive iTunes sessions. It will be integrated with Siri. You’ll be able to give it commands like “play more like this” or “play jazz radio” or ask who plays a particular song.

    iTunes is free, with the ads. iTunes Match users will get the service without them.

    Apple also revealed the iPhone 5S and 5C devices today.

  • iPhone 5S Gets A Faster CPU, Fingerprint Scanner

    After a year of leaks and rumors, the iPhone 5S is finally here. Is it everything that we were expecting, or did Apple manage to surprise us?

    At today’s Apple event, Phil Schiller announced the iPhone 5S after showing off the cheaper iPhone 5C. Schiller says that the iPhone 5S represents “the most forward thinking phone anyone has ever made.”

    Schiller began by showing off the three new colors for the iPhone 5S – Gold, Silver and “space grey.” As expected, the case is made of aluminum.

    Next, Schiller announced the chip inside the iPhone 5S – the A7. He revealed that the A7 is the world’s first 64-bit chip for a smartphone. This will lead to enhanced performance in apps and games. In fact, he says that the CPU is 40 times faster and the GPU is 56 times faster.

    He says that iOS 7 has been completely reengineered to support 64-bit apps. Developers will be able to easily upgrade their apps to the new 64-bit architecture. It also supports OpenGL|ES version 3.0 which will allow for greater graphical flourishes in games. To showcase that, they brought Epic Games to talk about Infinity Blade III. It will launch alongside the iPhone 5S.

    The iPhone 5S is getting another smaller processor called the M7 that will help process motion data. In short, it will keep track of the accelerometer, compass and gyroscope so the main A7 CPU can focus on core processing tasks. The M7 processor uses the new CoreMotion API to detect if the user is sitting, walking, driving, etc.

    As for battery life, Schiller says that it can provide 10 hours of 3G talk time, LTE browsing, Wi-Fi browsing and video. For 3G browsing, you’re looking about 8 hours of life.

    The camera has received an upgrade with a “five-element Apple-designed lens” that can capture a 15 percent larger active area. Instead of going for more pixels, however, Apple will instead of going for bigger pixels. To that end, the iPhone 5S captures photos in 1.5μ pixels. For panorama shots, it can capture images at 28 MP.

    The camera software has also been revamped to automatically apply all the settings needed for the best photo. As for the flash, there’s two – a white and amber flash – to help provide the best lighting. A new burst mode has also been added to take pictures at 10 frames per second.

    For those who like to record video, Apple is implementing slow motion software that can capture 720p video at 120FPS. Now you no longer have to buy an expensive camera to record video of your friends smashing watermelons in slow motion.

    Next, Schiller moved onto security. He says that most iPhone users don’t bother with setting up a passcode for security so they’re implementing the oft-rumored fingerprint scanner. It’s called Touch ID and it scans sub-epidermal skin layers to make sure that you’re you. It can be used for both logging into your phone as well as making purchases on iTunes.

    For those worried about the privacy implications of handing over your fingerprint, Apple says that all scans are encrypted and placed inside a secure enclave. That means that your fingerprint will never be stored on Apple’s servers.

    The iPhone 5S starts at $199 for the 16GB variant, $299 for 32GB and $399 for 64GB on a two year contract. The cases will be $39 each and will be available in multiple colors.

    You can start pre-ordering the iPhone 5S on September 13. It will be available to purchase on September 20. By the end of the year, it will be available in 100 countries on over 270 carriers.

  • Apple Event: iWork, iMovie, iPhoto To Be Free With New iOS Devices

    Apple announced today that its iWork suite of productivity apps will be free with the purchase of new iOS devices. That includes Pages, Numbers and Keynote. iMovie and iPhoto will also be free.

    “We think that iWork is a really key advantage for our customers’ productivity, and iPhoto and iMovie are great for their creativity,” said CEO Tim Cook is quoted as saying. “Almost all of our customers want these apps.”

    The news came out of Apple’s big event where it unveiled the iPhone 5S and 5C, and announced that iOS will be released on September 18th.

    In June, at Apple’s WWDC, the company announced iWork for iCloud, making the iWork suite essentially a direct competitor to Google Docs.

  • iPhone 5C Officially Announced: $99, Launches September 13

    For months now, the normal late summer iPhone rumors have been swirling. Rather than just leaks about the newest iPhone, Apple fans have been greeted with rumors about two new iPhones. One is the iPhone 5S, of course, but the other is a less expensive, entry-level handset. Today at Apple’s big fall iPhone event the rumors of the iPhone 5C proved to be true.

    Apple’s Phil Schiller took the stage early in the presentation to officially unveil the iPhone 5C. The device is made using mostly the hardware found in the iPhone 5, but now comes in a variety of colors. The device has a single piece of hard-coated polycarbonate plastic that makes up its back and sides. The smartphone will come in bright colors of green, white, blue, pink, or yellow.

    Inside the device the plastic cover is lined with a steel frame on the inside that acts as an antenna. The 5C has a 4-inch display, an A6 processor, and an 8MP rear camera – the same as last year’s iPhone 5. What’s new is that the 5C has a slightly larger capacity battery and a slightly better front-facing camera.

    The colors are a large selling point for the iPhone 5C, but Apple is giving customers even more choices than just the five colors the device comes in. Apple will be selling custom silicon rubber cases in a variety of colors for $29 each. The cases, bizarrely, have a 5 x 7 grid of holes on the back, so that the original color of the device can be seen and an eye-numbing variety of color combinations can be made.

    The iPhone 5C will come in two varieties, a version with 16GB of storage for $99 (with two-year contract) and a version with 32GB of storage for $199 (with contract).

    The iPhone 5C will launch in the U.S. alongside the iPhone 5S on September 20. Pre-orders for the device begin on September 13.

  • iOS 7 Release Date Is Officially September 18th

    At its big press event, Apple just announced that iOS 7 will be available on September 18th. Tim Cook introduced the event and talked about a few of the company’s latest stats before turning the stage over to Craig Federighi, who revisited the features of the operating system Apple introduced back in June.

    The OS has a completely new design and over 200 new features. Apple has provided images and explanations of these on its site since the announcement, and iOS 7 has been available to developers. The news here is that we now know when the general public of iPhone users will get it on their phones.

    Update (from the press release):

    iOS 7 will be available as a free software update starting on Wednesday, September 18 for iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, iPad mini and iPod touch (fifth generation). Some features may not be available on all products.

    *US English, French and German will be available with the launch of iOS 7. Additional languages will be added over time.
    **iTunes Radio will be available with the launch of iOS 7 in the US.

    Following the announcement, the company proceeded to announce the new iPhone 5C and 5S.

    Apple Event: Here’s What Twitter Is Saying In Real Time

    As you probably know, Apple’s big event is getting ready to start. There are tons of liveblogs that you can follow, but here’s a real-time look at how the Twitterverse is reacting:

    You can keep an eye on our general coverage here.

  • iPhone 5S Fingerprint Scanner: Would It Be Secure?

    iPhone is set to make a big announcement on September 10, and the Internet is abuzz with speculation. iOS7 is a given. Will we see a low-cost iPhone 5C in addition to a 5S? Will we be able to purchase iPhones in something other than the standard black and white – say, Champagne and Graphite?

    One of the newest rumors, and one that’s getting considerable buzz, is that the new phone will feature fingerprint scanning. Apple has remained silent on the issue, but Wall Street is taking the speculation seriously enough to adjust price-range estimates on Apple shares upward. Wells Fargo financial analyst Maynard Um was quoted in USA Today as saying that “Everyone is looking at what this new phone can do, and one of the key things is fingerprint authentication.”

    It’s called biometric security and Apple acquired a company that specializes in it – AuthenTec – in 2012.

    Security technologists and others in the field agree that fingerprint scanning on the iPhone would be a good thing overall. But according to Bruce Schneier in his opinion piece on Wired.com, the technology may not be as secure as it first sounds. Like most technology, it’s not 100% reliable. Not only could it fail to keep unauthorized users out, but it could fail to let authorized users in. In Schneier’s opinion, the latter scenario would actually be the least desirable.

    As Schneier points out, “… if some bad guy has your iPhone and your fingerprint, you’ve probably got bigger problems to worry about.”

    According to Um, it’s companies who will be most enthusiastic about fingerprint scanning capability on the new iPhone. “Enterprises want to know devices are in the right hands, and this pretty much guarantees it.”

    Will you be checking in on Apple’s iPhone page to see the big announcement tomorrow morning?

  • iPhone 6 Rumor: Device Could Have 5-Inch Screen

    Tomorrow, Apple is set to unveil its latest flagship smartphone, the iPhone 5S, as well as the low-cost iPhone 5C. Over the past month, daily leaks have made sure that there will almost certainly be no surprises at tomorrow’s event. So, with no new information to be had about the 5S, the tech rumor mill is, of course, turning its focus to next year’s iPhone.

    9 to 5 Mac this weekend reported that the iPhone 6 could have a screen size of up to 5 inches. The report cites a KGI Securities analyst as saying next year’s iPhone could have a screen between 4.5 and 5 inches in size.

    The larger screen size seems reasonable, given Apple’s history of keeping its iPhone screen sizes smaller than premium Android handsets, some of which have screens that have grown to over 6 inches. The iPhone 6 rumor comes amid recent reports that Apple has been testing larger displays, some up to 6-inches.

    In addition to a larger smartphone, supply chain rumors from last month held that both Apple and Samsung are working on mega tablets with screen sizes of 12-inches or larger. Of course, all of these predictions are coming before even the iPhone 5S has been officially announced. Apple has over one year to finalize its 2014 product lineup, and early predictions in previous years have tended toward the silly.

  • Apple To Host Event On September 10, It’s Probably The iPhone 5S

    Are you tired of waiting for the iPhone 5S? Well, you won’t have to wait much longer as Apple has pretty much confirmed when we’ll be seeing it.

    Apple sent out some invites this week for an event that it’s hosting on September 10. The invite only has one thing to say – “This should brighten everyone’s day.” An iPhone 5S reveal would probably do that.

    Apple To Host Event On Sept. 10

    The invite doesn’t explicitly state what we’ll be seeing on September 10, but a report from earlier last month pretty much confirmed that the iPhone 5S would be revealed on that date. It makes sense anyway as Apple revealed its last two smartphones around this time of the year.

    So, is that it? Surely, Apple would have something else to show off at its upcoming event, right? As a matter of fact, there are reports that the cheap iPhone, now called the iPhone 5C, will be unveiled at the September 10 event as well. The iPhone 5C is reportedly a plastic iPhone that’s more reminiscent of an iPod and it will come in multiple colors. The device is primarily intended for emerging markets like China, but don’t be surprised if Apple announces it for North America as well.

    Beyond the reveal of two new iPhones, we can probably expect some more details regarding iOS 7. Apple revealed its next generation mobile OS at WWDC back in June, but it’s been through a lot of revisions since then thanks to developer feedback. Apple may take some time out to announce some small changes being made to the OS based on that feedback.

    As for a new iPad and iPad Mini, that’s still up in the air. I’m more inclined to believe that Apple will give its tablets a separate event later in the year. The iPad Mini was revealed in October of 2012 and I bet that we’ll see something similar this year as well.
