  • New iPad TV Spot Focuses On Retina Display

Well it’s no “1984” but then again that was a sixty-second piece of advertising history that is considered by many in the advertising industry to be the greatest television commercial ever created for the greatest brand ever launched. It ran only once and during the Superbowl that year. The new Apple television commercial for the new iPad is smart and expected and pretty much in line with the launch of Apple’s latest product.

Apple has been focusing on keeping their advertising simple, focused and product-oriented for a long time. This commercial is consistent with that very successful strategy. The spot is focused on what Apple believes will set the New iPad apart from all other tablets in the market and the competition: the retina display.

The commercial shows the new iPad being used to edit a photo, read a book, watch a movie and draw a picture. Under a simple piano soundtrack, a clear voice doesn’t mention price or any specifications but the copy delivers the message simply, “When a screen becomes this good, colors are more vibrant. Words are pin sharp. Everything is more brilliant. Because when a screen becomes this good, it’s simply you and the things you care about. The stunning Retina Display on the new iPad.”

  • iPad 3: Who’s Buying And Why? [Infographic]

iPad 3: Who’s Buying And Why? [Infographic]

The iPad is expensive, we get that. Although it is a luxury item some are still going to fork over the cash and get the latest and greatest from Apple. But the question I ask is: who are these folks? Who will be lining up to get the new iPad?

I can’t answer that question exactly, but we can gage pretty well based on information that’s already out there. For instance, aytm, a research firm, has compiled an infographic on who will be likely to buy an iPad3 based on consumer research.

Let’s take a look at what they found:

    iPad 3 Statistics

So there it is, some pretty good evidence to tell us about who the iPad 3 buyers are likely to be and what’s motivating the purchase. Almost 60% of of people are using them on the couch and in bed. I think this statistic is key and goes relatively unnoticed. iPad is replacing magazines and books as a primary form of relaxation, at least in my opinion.

Honestly, the laptop was a great invention for exactly the same reason, I don’t want to be seated at a desk just to surf the net. Consumers are choosing to have access to the net in more comfortable and convenient ways. This is no surprise. Thank Apple for the iPad. It is revolutionizing the World.

  • iPad HD to Rival Ultrabooks in Key Features

IPad HD, aka iPad 3, may prove to bring tablets to the forefront of the laptop market. Boasting a super high-resolution display, built in 4G LTE, and faster graphics silicon, all in a smaller lighter package, it’s easy to see the appeal. And with so many keyboard peripherals already on the market for the previous iPad, laptops and ultrabooks will have some tough competition ahead.

With a stunning 2048×1536 pixel display, the iPad HD already surpasses the MacBook Air and Intel Ultrabooks in screen resolution. The Air maxes out at 1440×900 on the thirteen inch display; Ultrabooks are similar at 1366×768 for most models. This is a huge jump on the 9.7 inch iPad 3 screen.

Neither of those have built in broadband as a standard feature, let alone 4G LTE, the latest and most promising of the 4G networks.

Apple is even catching up on the chip front, with the A5X or the A6 still as possibilities, Intel may no longer have the advantage in this category.

OnLive Desktop will help convert laptop owners by making Microsoft Office available on to iPad. This latest app uses the superior computing power of the cloud to run Windows while making these features available on the thinner, lighter iPad. This may not be the exact advantage as having Office on your local hard drive, but people may be willing to exchange speed for portability.

The new iPad HD may or may not be equivalent to a laptop, but the technology is definitely catching up to the point where people are going to have to make a decision on what they value in portable computing.

  • Apple To Revamp iPad Pricing (Rumor)

Apple To Revamp iPad Pricing (Rumor)

Rumors have been flying for several weeks about Apple’s next generation iPad. Most expect Apple to follow a similar pattern as with previous iPad launches, both in terms of device lineup and pricing. DigiTimes, however, has been insisting that Apple plans to split the line. Citing sources in the supply chain, they have repeatedly claimed that Apple will release two iPads, one to appeal to higher-end customers, and one aimed at the mid-range.

Today, DigiTimes is offering more details about what they expect from the next iPad lineup. They claim that with the launch of the two iPad 3 models, Apple means to drop the price of the iPad 2 to $299, which would put it solidly in the middle of the price range of competing Android tablets – including the Kindle Fire. Considering that Apple currently rules the tablet market anyway, such a maneuver could put the iPad in an even stronger position against the competition.

As to the iPad 3, the report claims that both models will have an A6 processor – the successor to the A5 chip currently in the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. The main difference between the two will be that the high-end model will get a retina display, while the mid-range model will get the same panel as the iPad 2.

As always, a rumor is a rumor, and should be treated as such. While Apple splitting a product line to appeal to a wider audience is hardly without precedent – they’ve done it with most of their computer lines – it is something they’ve consistently resisted doing with iOS devices. Rumors of a mid-tier iPhone have cropped up almost every year since the original iPhone’s release. While the iPad 2 pricing rumor seems pretty likely, I still don’t buy that Apple will split the iPad 3 line.

What do you think? Should we expect two iPad 3s, or will Apple keep doing what they’ve always done. Sound off in the comments.

  • iPad 3 Release Date Rumored Early 2012

iPad 3 Release Date Rumored Early 2012

It’s Friday morning, how about some new Apple rumors to start the day?

According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple is currently working with suppliers to begin a trial production of its next-gen tablet device, the iPad 3. The trial production is apparently set for October, which would mean an early 2012 release date for the finished product.

The WSJ cites “people familiar with the situation” who say that the Cupertino company has “ordered key components such as display panels and chips.”

Earlier reports indicated that Apple was eyeing a fall release of the iPad 3, just in time for the holiday season. On Tuesday, we told you that a 2011 release was probably unlikely due to delays involving the retina display technology.

“Suppliers will ramp up production and try to improve the yield rate for the new iPad in the fourth quarter before its official launch in early 2012.”

As far as the specs of the iPad 3? Apparently we can expect the high resolution display after all. The screen is said to be 9.7 inches with a 2048 by 1536 resolution:

Apple Inc. is working with component suppliers and its assembler in Asia for the trial production of its next generation iPad from October, people familiar with the situation say, as it looks to stay ahead of the competition in the fast-growing tablet computer market. The next generation iPad is expected to feature a high resolution display – 2048 by 1536 compared with 1024 by 768 in the iPad 2 – and Apple’s suppliers have already shipped small quantities of components for the sampling of the iPad 3. Suppliers said Apple has placed orders for a 9.7-inch screen device.

Of course, iPad 3 rumors have taken a backseat to iPhone 5 rumors these days. The latest rumor sets that release for October 7th with a pre-order period starting September 30th.
