Leaker: Apple May Bring macOS to the iPad Pro

Apple is rumored to be taking a step fans have clamored for — bringing a version of macOS to the iPad Pro.

The iPad Pro is an incredibly powerful piece of hardware, one that outperforms all but the most powerful computers on the market. The device’s Achilles heel, however, has always been the software.

According to a leaker, Apple is currently testing a trimmed-down version of macOS on the M2 iPad Pro.

According with my source Apple would be testing a smaller version of macOS exclusively for the new iPad Pro M2! “Mendocino” should be the codename for macOS 14. A simplified version should be planned for the M2.

    — Majin Bu (@MajinBuOfficial), October 20, 2022

It should be noted that Majin Bu doesn’t have the same track record as some of the more well-known Apple leakers. Nonetheless, the rumor is sure to raise the hopes of iPad fans.

  • iPad Pro Models With Larger Screens May Be Coming

iPad Pro Models With Larger Screens May Be Coming

Apple is working on an all-new iPad Pro design with an even larger screen, if reports are to be believed.

The largest iPad Pro has been the 12.9-inch model since its introduction in 2015. The screen size puts it roughly on par with the MacBook Air and the 13-inch MacBook Pro.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman (via AppleInsider), Apple is ready to expand the iPad Pro even more, with engineers working on a design that’s even larger. Users hoping to see it in the 2022 refresh will be disappointed, however, as the new models are “a couple of years down the road at the earliest.”

Many users have been clamoring for better multitasking on the iPad Pro, specifically requesting a multi-windowed interface, similar to macOS. The larger screen size would certainly make such a transition easier, and could pave the way for a whole new generation of iPadOS innovations.

  • Zoom Adds iPad Pro Center Stage Support

Zoom Adds iPad Pro Center Stage Support

Zoom is releasing a major update to its iPad client, adding support for the iPad Pro’s Center Stage, as well as 48-person Gallery View.

While the move to the M1 processor and mini-LED display stole the show when Apple introduced the new iPad Pro, it was the Center Stage announcement that had many professionals ready to upgrade.

For individuals using an iPad Pro as their primary machine (such as yours truly) the offset camera is a constant irritation. It’s impossible to look at the camera without appearing to the other participants as if you’re staring offscreen.

Center Stage solves that problem, using a wide angle camera and machine learning, to keep you centered onscreen. Apple quickly announced the feature would not only work with FaceTime, but with third-party video apps as well.

Zoom’s latest release adopts the feature, bringing a welcome improvement to company meetings.

With support for Center Stage, you can participate more naturally in our Zoom video calls. Never again worry about whether you’re out of frame during a workout, teaching a class, or celebrating with friends and family over Zoom.

Another major new addition to this release is expanded Gallery View, with support for 48 video tiles, up from 25 in the previous version. While only the 2021 iPad Pro will increase to 48 tiles, Zoom says previous models will get an expanded Gallery View as well, although the number of added tiles will depend on the device and screen size.

  • iPad Pro’s Center Stage Will Work With Third-Party Video Apps

iPad Pro’s Center Stage Will Work With Third-Party Video Apps

Apple has answered a big question about the upcoming Center Stage iPad Pro feature, stating it will work with third-party video apps.

One of the most frustrating things about videoconferencing on an iPad is the placement of the camera. Because the camera is placed at the top of the screen when held in portrait mode, it is off to the side when in landscape mode, such as when it’s in a keyboard case. As a result, looking at the screen during a video conference makes it appear as if the person is looking off to the side — because they are, in relation to the camera.

When Apple unveiled the new iPad Pro at its Spring Loaded event, one of the most promising features was one called Center Stage. Using the iPad’s Ultra Wide camera, in combination with machine learning, Center Stage keeps the user centered in the screen, appearing to look directly at the camera.

One of the biggest questions was whether the new feature would only work with FaceTime, or if it would support third-party apps, such as Zoom, Skype or Teams. Apple has clarified on its iPad Pro page that the feature will work with third-party apps.

The all‑new Center Stage uses the Ultra Wide camera and machine learning to change the way you participate in video calls. As you move around, it automatically pans to keep you centered in the frame. When others join in or leave the call, the view expands or zooms in. Center Stage works with FaceTime and other video conferencing apps for an even more engaging experience

The news will remove a significant irritation for anyone primarily using an iPad Pro for their work and virtual meetings.

Apple uses its “Spring Loaded” event to unveil the new iPad Pro and an M1 iMac.

Cook highlighted the revolutionary impact of the transition to Apple’s custom M1 silicon, before giving the stage to John Ternus to discuss the latest addition to the M1 family: the iMac.

The new iMac is a throwback to the original iMac, coming in seven different colors. Unlike previous generations, however, the M1 allows the iMac to achieve an all new degree of thinness. In fact, the new model is only 11.5 millimeters thick.

iMac stays under 10 decimals under most situations, barely audible to the human ear.

Navpreet Koloty showed off the progress Apple has made on the iMac’s cameras, the best the company has ever put in a Mac. Cameras were always a weak point for the Mac, something that became more apparent during the pandemic, as people started relying on videoconferencing.

The iMac’s speakers and microphones also received a major upgrade, resulting in the best sound system ever put in a Mac.

The new machines are up to 85% faster than previous models, with up to 2x faster GPU performance and up to 50% faster than the fastest discrete graphics iMacs. Machine learning is up to 3x faster.

The iMac is the first desktop to offer Touch ID. Touch ID can be used to log in, make purchases and activate fast user switching, to switch between user accounts.

Raja Bose took the stage to announce the iPad Pro now has the M1 chip as well. The M1 in the iPad Pro delivers 50% faster performance than the previous generation. The 8-core GPU delivers up to 40% faster GPU performance than the previous model.

The new model includes support for the latest Playstation and Xbox controls, complete with haptic feedback.

The new iPad Pro has 2x faster storage access, and is now available with up to 2TB storage. New model includes Thunderbolt support with USB 4.

The new iPad Pro supports 5G, including mmWave in the US, giving it the ability to have 4Gbps download under ideal conditions.

Fiona O’Leary showed the improvements Apple has made to the cameras. One of the biggest announcements was the introduction of Center Stage. Using the new 122-degree, Ultra-Wide camera and machine learning, Center Stage keeps the user in the center of the view, addressing one of the biggest complaints of the iPad’s current cameras.

The new models also include the much anticipated mini-LED display, complete Liquid Retina XDR, a first for the tablet line. The Magic Keyboard is also available in white.

The 11-inch model starts at $799, while the 12.9-inch starts at $1,099.

  • MacBook Pro and iPad Pro Facing Delays Due to Chip Shortage

MacBook Pro and iPad Pro Facing Delays Due to Chip Shortage

Apple may be delaying production of the highly-anticipated MacBook Pro and iPad Pro amid a global semiconductor shortage.

The coronavirus pandemic sparked a series of events that have led to a severe shortages of chips. At the outset, production was hurt as companies were forced to shut down their factories due to lockdown measures. As the pandemic drug on, however, stay-at-home orders and remote work helped drive a significant increase in demand for computers, gaming consoles and tablets.

Companies in many industries have been experiencing the impact of the chip shortage. Some automakers have had to halt production due to the shortage, and some vehicles are shipping without the usual slate of chips, impacting their long-term fuel mileage.

The shortage may now be impacting Apple’s upcoming products, according to Nikkei Asia, causing production delays for the upcoming MacBook Pro and iPad Air. Apple is expected to be on the verge of releasing a MacBook Pro 16”, as well as the biggest iPad Pro update ever. Unfortunately, it appears the MacBook production has been delayed at the point where the components are mounted on circuit boards. Meanwhile, the iPad production has hit delays as a result of shortages of displays and display components.

As a result, Apple is pushing back some of the component orders from the first half of the year to the second half. If the report is true, we may see both devices previewed at WWDC in June, but not released until sometime between August and October.

The news is even worse for the industry as a whole, given Apple’s legendary supply chain efficiency. If Apple is experiencing significant delays, smaller companies, and ones without as efficient a supply chain, will likely be impacted far worse.

  • Apple Announces ‘Glow and Behold’ WWDC 2021

Apple Announces ‘Glow and Behold’ WWDC 2021

Apple has announced its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) for 2021, with the tag line: “Glow and behold.”

WWDC is Apple’s premier event of the year, where the company previews its upcoming operating system releases, as well as new hardware. Some of the company’s biggest products have debuted at WWDC.

This year’s event will be held June 7 – 11 and, like last year, will be “an all-online program with exciting announcements, sessions, and labs at no cost.”

Many have been expecting Apple to hold an event sooner, possibly to debut a new iPad Pro and possibly a new iMac, but as of yet there has been no announcement. Now that Apple has announced WWDC, it’s possible we won’t see another event until then.

  • Apple Event Expected March 23 for iPad Pro, AirTags, AirPods and Apple TV

Apple Event Expected March 23 for iPad Pro, AirTags, AirPods and Apple TV

The latest rumors point at March 23 being the date of Apple’s anticipated event to release an updated iPad Pro, as well as AirTags, AirPods and Apple TV.

The event was originally rumored to be held March 16, but March 23 now seems to be the most likely date. Jon Prossner, an Apple leaker with a solid tracker record, provided the details.

Experts have been expecting a March refresh of Apple’s flagship iPad line. Although the device was updated in 2020, that update was relatively minor and offered minimal improvements over 2018. Many believed the 2020 refresh was simply a placeholder update until a more substantial one could be readied. The 2021 iPad Pro is rumored to have a mini-LED screen, 5G and a processor to rival the M1 Macs.

The AirTags are Apple’s rumored tracking tags that can be placed on devices, in purses, on keys, etc, to make it easier to find easily lost items.

There are numerous rumors surrounding the new entry-level AirPods, although most of them indicate a smaller size similar to the AirPods Pro. It’s believed the new models could feature the same pressure equalization technology as the Pros, a feature that equalizes ear pressure and makes it more comfortable to wear the devices for long periods. Noise cancellation, however, will likely remain a Pro feature.

An updated Apple TV would be a welcome addition to the March event. The Apple TV has gone years without a refresh, leaving many to believe Apple might be abandoning it in favor of making its Apple TV app available for various smart TV platforms. Given the widespread concerns about the privacy of smart TVs, however, it seems unlikely Apple would steer people toward that option. In addition, Apple has always preferred to offer a more integrated experience. With the increased importance of streaming, not to mention Apple’s own Apple TV+ service, an updated, compelling Apple TV could make some major headway in the market.

We will continue to provide updates, as well as coverage of Apple’s event — whenever it is.

  • 2021 iPad Pro Will Rival M1 Mac Performance

2021 iPad Pro Will Rival M1 Mac Performance

The 2021 iPad Pro, expected later this month, is rumored to have an upgraded processor that will rival the M1 in Apple’s recent Macs.

The iPad Pro is the high-end iPad model targeted at professionals and creators. As such, it consistently delivers features and performance that best Apple’s other iPads, and leaves Android tablets in the dust.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, that lead is set to expand in a big way, with the next-generation iPad Pro rivaling the M1. Apple introduced the M1 Macs in November. The M1 is based on the same chips already used in the iPhones and iPads, but boasts significantly better performance, thanks to its 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU.

In addition to sporting a more powerful chip, the larger iPad Pro will also feature a mini-LED display, offering greater brightness and contrast. The new display will make the tablet slightly thicker, although it will retain the same overall design. Ideally, this should allow the new model to use the existing Magic Keyboard and Smart Keyboard peripherals.

Gurman rounds out his iPad Pro predictions by saying the new model will also feature better cameras, as well as 5G. Apple is expected to include both the high-band mmWave, as well as low-band support. This would enable it to take advantage of carriers’ nationwide 5G networks, as well as their fastest 5G in cities and urban areas, much like the iPhone 12.

The combination of 5G and world-class performance should make the iPad Pro an ideal option for professionals, creators, students and remote workers. Notably, Gurman has an excellent track record with his Apple predictions, making it almost certain the iPad Pro released in March will match the specs he’s provided.

  • Apple Event Rumored For March 16, Likely New iPad Pro & AirTags

Apple Event Rumored For March 16, Likely New iPad Pro & AirTags

Apple is rumored to be holding an event March 16, likely to unveil a new iPad Pro, iPad mini and AirTags.

Apple usually releases new iPad Pros every two years. The 2020 refresh, however, was only marginally better than the 2018 model, leading many to believe a full refresh would still happen in 2021.

Recent rumors have suggested a 2021 iPad Pro will include 5G, as well as a mini-LED display. According to Korea’s Economic Daily News, via MacObserver, Apple is holding the unveiling event March 16. The iPad Pro and iPad mini are expected to be refreshed, with Apple also expected to release the much-anticipated AirTags.

AirTags are small tracking devices the company has been rumored to be working on. Images of them were first spotted in an internal iOS 13 build. The devices could be used to keep track of things, such as keys, bags and other items easily misplaced.

Apple has yet to officially confirm the March 16 event.

  • Apple Bringing Popular Features Back In MacBook Updates

Apple Bringing Popular Features Back In MacBook Updates

Apple is preparing updates to the MacBook Air and Pro that will bring back some of their most popular features.

Apple’s MacBooks are its most popular computers, but the company was accused of letting them languish toward the end of the Intel era. In addition, some customers vehemently disagreed with some of Apple’s decisions that seemed to place more emphasis on form over function. This included removing popular features, such as the SD card slot and the MagSafe power adapter.

According to Bloomberg, the company is looking to bring these features back in upcoming models. The MacBook Pro is rumored to be getting the SD card slot back, with the Air slated to get MagSafe back. MagSafe magnetically attached the power cable to the Mac, rather than plugging it into a port. As a result, if it was snagged on something, it would simply disconnect without any risk of damage. Although Bloomberg’s report doesn’t mention the MacBook Pro, it’s likely it would receive this upgrade as well.

Apple is also reportedly working to add cellular connectivity and Face ID to the MacBook line. Both features have been notably missing from Apple’s portable Macs, despite being available on the iPad Pro. Adding these two features would be a big hit with current and future Mac users.

Now that Apple has tighter control over the Mac’s hardware, it’s a safe bet we will see a faster pace of innovation on the platform.

  • iPad Pro With 5G and Mini-LED Expected First Quarter 2021

iPad Pro With 5G and Mini-LED Expected First Quarter 2021

Apple is reportedly planning on releasing a new 12.9-inch iPad Pro in early 2021, featuring 5G and a mini-LED display.

Many have been eagerly anticipating a refresh of Apple’s flagship iPad Pro in view of recent developments. The iPad Air was refreshed in September 2020, powered by a new A14 Bionic chip. Similarly, Apple unveiled its new line of Macs in November, powered by its M1 custom silicon. In contrast, the iPad Pro is still powered by the older A12Z Bionic chip.

According to a report by DigiTimes, Apple is preparing the next version of the iPad Pro, one powered by a newer A14x chip. The new iPad Pro will also feature a mini-LED display, a major improvement over existing models. The new display will provide sharper, brighter colors, as well as improved power-efficiency.

The new model will also reportedly be the first iPad with 5G connectivity. Given Apple’s efforts to position the iPad Pro — especially the 12.9-inch model — as a professional work device, including 5G makes a lot of sense.

Apple often releases new iPad models in March, meaning we may have less than three months before the latest version of Apple’s revolutionary platform.

  • New Apple Hardware On December 8?

New Apple Hardware On December 8?

Apple has issued an internal memo this week, telling technicians to be ready for AppleCare-related changes next Tuesday.

MacRumors obtained a copy of the memo from a reliable source. The memo is similar in nature to ones that have gone out before other major hardware releases of late. In the memo, “Apple has advised technicians to prepare for new product SKUs, new/updated product descriptions, and new/updated product pricing.”

The fact that the memo includes information related to new product SKUs and descriptions would seem to indicate new hardware, and not just an update to the AppleCare service itself.

There are a number of possibilities, although our money is on additional M1 Macs, or possibly an update to the iPad Pro. Other possibilities include the rumored AirTags, over-ear AirPods or an update to the Apple TV.

  • Apple May Be Bringing Magic Keyboard to Other iPads

Apple May Be Bringing Magic Keyboard to Other iPads

A leaker has claimed that Apple is bringing the Magic Keyboard to other iPad models, rather than just the iPad Pro.

When Apple recently refreshed the iPad Pro, the Magic Keyboard and trackpad stole the show. Marking a return to the more reliable scissor mechanism, as opposed to the much-reviled butterfly mechanism, the Magic Keyboard is a significant step toward Apple’s goal to make the iPad a laptop replacement.

Now leaker L0vetodream is claiming other models will get a version of the Magic Keyboard.

in my dream Magic keyboard not only for the iPad Pro

    — (@L0vetodream) June 11, 2020

While cryptic, the leaker is developing a reputation for solid leaks. Only time will tell if this leak is accurate.

  • Apple Moving to ARM Processors by 2021

Apple Moving to ARM Processors by 2021

It appears Apple is finally ready to begin making the move to ARM processors, with models expected to start showing up in late 2020 or early 2021.

AppleInsider saw a note to investors by TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo has a good track record when it comes to Apple predictions. In the note, Kuo says Apple is proceeding with an “aggressive processor replacement strategy,” with ARM-based desktops and laptops hitting the market in Q4 2020 or Q1 2021.

Apple has long been rumored to be working on ARM-based Macs, and there is a strong case for the company to make the transition. In recent years, Intel has struggled to keep up with processor development and demand, with even some of its staunchest allies looking to rival AMD. Intel’s processors have also been plagued with critical security flaws, the latest of which has been labeled “unfixable.” To make matters worse, Intel’s chips have struggled to deliver the performance mobile users demand, while still keeping heat low enough for the sleek designs Apple is known for.

In contrast, Apple’s line of ARM chips have established themselves as strong performers. The A12X and A12Z in the iPad Pros are more powerful than the majority of laptops on the market and, importantly, achieve that performance without a single cooling fan being needed. The iPad Pros are also able to deliver all-day battery life—thanks in large part to the efficiency of the ARM chips—a feat that very few laptops can match.

Moving to ARM-based Macs would allow Apple to duplicate the “whole widget” advantage it has with its iOS devices, controlling both the hardware and software, ensuring they work together as well as possible. In addition, because Apple has already went through several processor migrations in the past, the company has vast experience building in backward compatibility, as well as providing developers with the tools they need to swiftly (pun intended) and easily port their apps.

All in all, this is good news for the Mac community and will likely usher in a new era of performance for Mac users.

  • Coronavirus: Apple Limiting iPhone Orders

    Coronavirus: Apple Limiting iPhone Orders

Amid supply chain constraints as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Apple is limiting online iPhone orders.

According to CNBC, “Apple’s online store began limiting U.S. customers to two units of each iPhone model per person this week. Customers can still buy more than two iPhones in one order, but they would have to be different models — for instance, two iPhone 11s and two iPhone 11 Pros.

“The restriction applies to the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Max.” Apple is also limiting orders of the new iPad Pro the company announced on Wednesday.

The news is the latest indication the coronavirus has had a significant impact on Apple’s supply chain. The company previously announced it would miss its quarterly guidance as a result of the virus, while analysts believe the supply chain issues could persist and impact Apple’s 2021 earnings. Apple also warned its store personnel that warranty replacement iPhones were in short supply.

Apple taking the drastic step of limiting purchases is further evidence the company doesn’t see its supply chain catching up anytime soon.

  • Apple Upgrades MacBook Air, Lowers Price

Apple Upgrades MacBook Air, Lowers Price

Along with Apple’s announcement of a new iPad Pro, the company also announced a new MacBook Air with faster specs and a lower price.

    Performance

The new MacBook Air offers quad-core processors for the first time ever. The processors are the “latest 10th-generation Intel Core processors up to 1.2GHz quad-core Core i7 with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.8GHz.” The new processors give the laptops “up to 80 percent faster graphics performance, letting customers breeze through daily activities and play more games.”

As an added benefit, by using Intel’s 10th-generation processors, the new MacBook Airs should be immune to the CPU flaw that plagues all previous generations of Intels chips.

    Keyboard

The new models also include the Magic Keyboard, first introduced on the 16-inch MacBook Pro. The “redesigned scissor mechanism delivers 1mm of key travel for a comfortable and stable key feel,” and should be a major improvement over the problem-plagued keyboard on previous models.

    Storage

MacBook Air Performance - Image Credit: Apple
MacBook Air Performance – Image Credit: Apple

The new models also start with 256GB of storage. Just as important, the MacBook Air offers up to 2TB of SSD storage, double what was previously available.

“From students and consumers buying their first computer to customers looking to upgrade, everyone loves the Mac, and they especially love MacBook Air. Today we’re giving it a huge update, with two times faster performance, the new Magic Keyboard, double the storage, a new lower price of $999 and an even lower price of $899 for education,” said Tom Boger, Apple’s senior director of Mac and iPad Product Marketing. “With its stunning, thin and light design, brilliant Retina display, all-day battery life and the power and ease-of-use of macOS, MacBook Air is the world’s best consumer notebook.”

Taken as a whole, this is a well-rounded upgrade that makes the MacBook Air a powerful computer that has the ability to punch well above its weight. It should appeal to a broad user base, far beyond the students and casual users it is aimed at.

  • Apple Unveils New iPad Pro As Full Laptop Replacement

Apple Unveils New iPad Pro As Full Laptop Replacement

Apple has announced a new iPad Pro that is clearly aimed at the laptop market, with a slew of powerful new features.

The new iPad Pro is powered by the A12Z Bionic chip and an eight-core GPU, allowing the tablet to outperform most PC laptops on the market today, according to Apple. Given that the 2018 iPad Pro was touted as being faster than 92% of notebooks on the market at that time, Apple’s claim about the new model is probably pretty accurate.

iPad Pro Cameras - Image Credit: Apple
iPad Pro Cameras – Image Credit: Apple

The camera on the new model is equally impressive. The iPad Pro includes a 12MP Wide camera, as well as a 10MP Ultra Wide camera. There are also “studio-quality mics and a breakthrough LiDAR Scanner that delivers cutting-edge depth-sensing capabilities, opening up more pro workflows and supporting pro photo and video apps. The LiDAR Scanner, along with pro cameras, motion sensors, pro performance, pro audio, the stunning Liquid Retina display and powerful apps, extends the lead of iPad Pro as the world’s best device for augmented reality (AR).”

iPad Trackpad Support - Image Credit: Apple
iPad Trackpad Support – Image Credit: Apple

The feature that will catch most users’ attention is full trackpad support. iPadOS 13.4 brings trackpad support to the iPad, and the feature particularly shines when paired with the upcoming Magic Keyboard. The new keyboard is designed to offer a laptop-style experience, suspending the iPad magnetically and giving 130 degrees of viewing angle—far better than the older Smart Keyboard. The Magic Keyboard also features pass-through USB-C charging, leaving the USB-C port on the iPad free for peripherals.

“The new iPad Pro introduces advanced technologies never before available in mobile computing,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Combining the most advanced mobile display with powerful performance, pro cameras, pro audio, the breakthrough LiDAR Scanner and new Magic Keyboard with Trackpad, this is another huge leap forward for iPad. There’s no other device in the world like the new iPad Pro and we think our customers are going to love it.”

“We’re making iPad even more capable and versatile by bringing trackpad support to iPadOS,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “We carefully considered the best way to integrate trackpad use into a touch-first environment while retaining everything our customers know and love about iPad. We’re thrilled to bring this new way of interacting with iPad to the millions of people using iPadOS today.”

For years, the iPad has been a beautiful and powerful piece of hardware held back by the OS. Similarly, users have been clamoring for trackpad support to help with more tedious tasks. With today’s announcement, Apple goes a long way toward addressing those issues, making the iPad a much stronger laptop replacement than it has ever been.

  • iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max Likely to Have 6GB of RAM

iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max Likely to Have 6GB of RAM

MacRumors is reporting that the next iPhone is likely to come with a RAM upgrade, coming in at 6GB.

According to the rumors site, “Barclays analyst Blayne Curtis and his associates recently traveled to Asia to meet with manufacturers within Apple’s supply chain, and…they shared their expectations for 2020 iPhones based on information they gathered.”

One of the biggest takeaways was the amount of RAM the new models are expected to have. While the base iPhone 12 is believed to maintain 4GB, the two Pro models are both expected to have 6GB. The extra RAM is useful primarily for multitasking, increasing the number of applications and their contents that can be held in memory.

For example, many users have experienced the frustration of trying to fill out a website form in Safari, only to have all their work cleared out because they switched to another app and then back to Safari, prompting the browser to reload the page. This is a classic example of iOS running out of RAM and clearing a program’s contents as a result. With more RAM available, iOS can switch back and forth between apps without refreshing them and clearing their contents.

The iPad made a similar leap with the 2018 Pro models. The lower-end units all had 4GB of RAM, while the 1TB model had 6GB, to help it better meet the needs of the creative professionals it was aimed at.

With Apple similarly positioning the iPhone Pro models for creatives and professionals, it’s not surprising the high-end models are making the same transition.

  • Apple: The Biggest Change to iPad Since iPad (Watch New Commercial)

Apple: The Biggest Change to iPad Since iPad (Watch New Commercial)

Apple introduced the new iPad Pro today at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Howard Gilman Opera House. Apple says it is the “Biggest change to iPad since iPad”. It includes an all-screen design with Liquid Retina display, Face ID, A12X Bionic chip, USB-C, Smart Keyboard Folio, and a redesigned Apple Pencil. Check out their new iPad Pro commercial below.

Here’s how Apple describes the New iPad Pro, Pencil and Keyboard:

It’s all new, all screen, and all-powerful. Completely redesigned and packed with our most advanced technology, it will make you rethink what iPad is capable of. And what a computer is capable of.

The new all-screen design means iPad Pro is a magical piece of glass that does everything you need, any way you hold it.

The new Liquid Retina display goes from edge to edge. True-to-life color and ProMotion technology make everything look gorgeous and feel responsive. You’ve got to see it — and touch it — to believe it.

Face ID comes to iPad. It’s engineered for secure unlocking and works seamlessly whether you hold it in portrait or landscape. It’s the world’s most secure facial authentication in a tablet. And in a computer.

Use Face ID to unlock your iPad Pro, log in to apps, and pay with a glance. It’s one password you can’t forget.

A12X Bionic is the smartest, most powerful chip we’ve ever made. It has the Neural Engine, which runs five trillion operations per second and enables advanced machine learning. Translation: It’s faster than most PC laptops.

Put all that power to work by multitasking with just a few swipes. Work on a creative project, message with a friend, search the web for inspiration and make a FaceTime call. All at the same time.

A12X Bionic delivers 2x faster graphics.2 Which makes iPad Pro the perfect machine for augmented reality and a great way to play immersive games. Reality just got really fun.

Introducing the New Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard

Apple Pencil now responds to your touch. With a double tap, you can quickly change brushes or switch to the eraser, without interrupting your flow.
