  • Keith Urban Feels Very Blessed For Nicole Kidman

Keith Urban may seem like he has it all. Not only does he having a stunning wife, he also serves as a judge for the number one American music competition American Idol, and has an extremely successful career as a country music superstar.

However, his life hasn’t always been full of bliss. During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Keith opened up about his struggle with substance abuse and how his wife Nicole Kidman helped intervene when he was spiraling out of control.

Urban and Kidman married in 2006, and hit one of the lowest points of their marriage not long after. Shortly after the couple said their nuptials, Keith checked himself into a rehab facility.

“I was very, very blessed to have Nic call an intervention on me. I had a tight group of friends around me for the intervention,” Keith revealed. “I didn’t give a shit about anything except turning a corner in my life and doing whatever it took for that. And off I went.”

Keith’s decision to go to a treatment facility fell around the same time as his album Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing was scheduled to be released.

“The first thing that I think about with this record is how everything’s about to come undone, not long after this [cover] picture was taken, actually. I’m already in a bit of trouble,” Urban explained. “We shot this over in England where Nic was doing something at the time. I think we were mixing [the album] to coincide with her being there.”

“I wasn’t in any recovery program of any sort. I wasn’t in AA. I didn’t have a sponsor,” he added. “I didn’t have anything. Meeting Nic and falling in love with Nic and starting a relationship with Nic became — I realize now in hindsight — my sobriety. That was how I was able to keep it together.”

Keith didn’t make the decision to go to rehab lightly. He put a lot of thought into it, and then put his whole heart into the treatment program. While in treatment, Keith even won the CMA award for Male Vocalist of the Year, and didn’t even realize it. That is how focused he was on getting better.

“I was very ready [for rehab],” Keith said. “I remember having been in rehab a few weeks, and the CMAs happened while I was in there. I forgot they were on. That’s how much I had gotten into this recovery.”

“I had gone to bed and I remember our night tech coming in and him saying, ‘You just won something. Male vocalist? CMAs or something?’ And I was like, ‘Really?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, off to bed,’ and he shut the door,” he explained. “And I said to my roommate, ‘Hey, I just won Male Vocalist of the Year,’ and he’s like, ‘That’s awesome.’ I just lay there in the dark going, ‘How weird is this?’”

Since Keith’s stint in rehab, his marriage to Nicole has remained stronger than ever. They welcomed their first child Sunday Rose in 2010, and then their second child Faith Margaret in 2012.

  • A&E Cancels Intervention, 13th Season Will Be Its Last

A&E is canceling its award-winning documentary series Intervention this year. The 13th season, which is set to start airing on June 13, will be it last.

Intervention’s final season will be comprised of five episodes that feature “fan favorites” from the series’ long history. Some of the addiction specialists tapped to return include Jeff Van Vonderen, Candy Finnigan, Donna Chavous and Ken Seeley. A&E says the final season will feature some rather intense episodes.

“As Intervention comes to an end, we’re proud to have paved the way for such an original and groundbreaking series,” said A&E and BIO Channel’s executive vice president of programming David McKillop. “We’re honored to have been a part of the 243 interventions since its premiere in March of 2005, leading to the 156 individuals that are currently sober to this day.”

You may have never watched the series, but one episode from the A&E series became a short lived Internet sensation on the Internet a few years ago when the emotional climax was auto-tuned:

  • Gmail Stages “Email Intervention” To Save People From Outdated Email

Google has just launched a campaign to attract more users to its already popular Gmail service. It asks current Gmail users to “save their friends from outdated email” by helping them jump on board the Gmail train. The way to do this is with an “email intervention.”

Did you hear that AOL, Hotmail, and Yahoo? Google thinks you are so bad that they have compared you to hardcore drugs. Yikes.

    From the official Google blog

I have one friend, Andy, who’s the straggler in the group. A couple months ago, I sent out an email about a barbecue I was having. On the “To:” line, there were 15 Gmail addresses and then Andy. He stuck out like a sore thumb. Shortly thereafter, Andy was complaining to us about how much spam he got. That was the last straw.

We all have a story like this. On the Gmail team, we affectionately refer to them as “email interventions.” We hear about them all the time: the cousin who finally switched from an embarassing address like hottie6elliot1977 to a more professional [email protected], a co-worker who helped his dentist switch after he heard her grumble about having to pay for IMAP access, etc.

And that’s the story Google gives behind emailintervention.com.

When you visit the site, you’ll see a big red button asking you to “start the intervention.” Once you click that, you will be asked to enter your personal Gmail address as well as the weird, funky email address of your friend who needs the intervention. There, you can also sign in to your Gmail account in order to have access to your full contact list.

Next, you get to select your message for your friend. You can either choose one of the pre-written messages that range from “straightforward,” “concerned” and “outraged” in their sentiment, or you can create your own. The email will also include a video, either the standard intervention video like the one above or one you create yourself.

Lastly, this finished product or something like it will be sent to your friend with the “embarrassing” email address.

Would you advise your friends to switch to Gmail? Do you think it is the best email service? Let us know in the comments.
