  • Gina Carano “Very Open” to a Return to MMA

Gina Carano said in an interview with Fox Sports earlier this week that she is “very open” to the idea of returning to MMA under the right circumstances.

Carano’s last fight in Strikeforce was in 2009, and she has since focused her energy on her acting career. She has taken roles in feature films including Fast & Furious 6, Blood and Bone, Haywire, and the TV series, Almost Human. Carano’s latest film is In the Blood, which opens in theaters next month.

In her newest film, Carano stars in the role of Ava, a woman whose husband goes missing during their honeymoon in the Caribbean. Ava strikes out on her own to take down the men she believes are responsible for his disappearance. Carano co-stars in the project alongside Danny Trejo, Luis Guzman, Treat Williams, and Stephen Lang.

“I’ve never retired. I never officially said that,” Carano said about MMA.

“For some reason a part of me has always kept it open. I don’t know, there’s a certain part of me that thinks if circumstances were right, and I could keep doing what I’m trying to make my future into, that’s an ideal world. If circumstances were right, you never know. I’m very open to it,” Carano continued.

Carano said she could not reveal too much about how far her discussions have gone with MMA about returning, but she did say that it was a possibility, if she could do so without sacrificing her acting career.

“I feel like I can’t say too much. I’ve got all this information that if I could just speak freely, this is actually what’s going on,” said the 31-year-old.

“I think to sum it up in a nice, safe way for me is if circumstances were right, and if it’s a good enough circumstance (I would come back) because my first love is MMA,” she explained.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Carano started training in Muay Thai at the age of 21. She made history by becoming the first female fighter to earn $100,000 for a fight in August 2009 against Brazilian Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos in the first Women’s Championship. Carano is classified by the Unified Women’s MMA Rankings as the third best 145 lb (66 kg.) female fighter in the world, and her current MMA record stands at seven wins and one loss.

In the Blood, directed by John Stockwell, opens in theaters April 4.

Gina Carano ‘Very Open’ to Returning to MMA

In an interview with Fox Sports’ Damon Martin, actress, television personality and fitness model Gina Carano has expressed that she’s “very open” to returning to the MMA cage.

Carano commented, “I’ve never retired. I’ve never officially said that,” and added that, “For some reason a part of me has always kept it open. I don’t know, there’s a certain part of me that thinks if circumstances were right, and I could keep doing what I’m trying to make my future into, that’s an ideal world. If circumstances were right, you never know. I’m very open to it.”

Carano, 31, left the ring for an acting career 5 years ago, and has been featured in films including Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire alongside Channing Tatum, as well as Fast & Furious 6, which starred the late Paul Walker.

UFC president Dana White has expressed enthusiasm at having Carano return to MMA, though Carano realizes that five years outside of the ring will have diminished her Muy Thai fighting skills. “I would definitely take something like that extremely seriously,” Carano said, adding, “I would dedicate myself to it, and need the time because you’re taking somebody who hasn’t fought in a while, that hasn’t been in the fight camp-type environment; and it would have to be done in a time where there would be enough time for me to get ready for that and be able to support myself during that time because that’s all I’d be doing is taking that seriously, and it would take me away from other projects or potential projects that I’ve been working this far in my life to get to.”

UFC fans are excited about a possible rematch between former Strikeforce champion Carano and current bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey. Carano said she’d return to the ring if the circumstances were right.

Carano recently filmed “In The Blood,” directed by John Stockell, which costars Luis Guzmán and Danny Trejo.

  • Gina Carano Action Thriller Slated For 2014 Release

Gina Carano, the fierce MMA fighter who is moving on to action star, will see her latest project released in theaters next year by Anchor Bay Films.

“In The Blood” will see a limited theatrical release in 2014 before moving on to a DVD/Blu-Ray release in partnership with Twentieth Century Fox. Carano, who previously starred in “Haywire” and “Fast And Furious 6”, garnered quite a bit of attention in Hollywood with her fighting style; in fact, her character in Haywire was actually written around her.

“The first time I saw Gina Carano fight with Pro Elite, I knew I had to make a movie with her,” said Kevin Kasha of Anchor Bay. “‘In The Blood’ is the perfect film for Gina and we at Anchor Bay Films are proud to be releasing it.”

Carano plays a newlywed whose husband disappears on their honeymoon, and after she begins a quest to find out what happened to him, she discovers that nothing is what it seems. The opportunity for a woman to play the lead in an action film is not lost on the producers, who know what that could mean for the box office.

“‘In the Blood’ represents the start of a strong female franchise character and audiences are going to love seeing Gina Carano as ‘Ava,’” said producer Shaun Redick.

“In The Blood” also stars Luis Guzman, Amaury Nolasco, Cam Gigandet, Danny Trejo, and Treat Williams, among others.
