  • Whitney Houston: Family Has Nothing to Do With Upcoming Biopic About Late Singer

A Whitney Houston biopic is in its early stages, and already the family of the late “I Will Always Love You” singer has spoken out against it.

The film about Whitney Houston, which is being created for BBC Two, is helmed by Nick Broomfield, who is known for other controversial films including Kurt and Courtney and Biggie and Tupac.

BBC Two reports that Whitney “goes in search of the forces that made and then destroyed the singer who has been described as having one of the greatest voices of the last 50 years.”

It was a little less than a week ago when a spokesperson for Whitney Houston’s family issued a statement to Rolling Stone about the upcoming film.

“The Whitney Houston Estate has no involvement in this program whatsoever,” the statement reads.

In 2015, a Lifetime biopic about Whitney Houston–and also called Whitney–drew considerable criticism from members of Whitney Houston’s family, too.

“You should not be surprised that someone decided to do a made-for-TV biopic. And, I might add, without the family’s blessing and despite her mother’s request to not do this movie,” Whitney Houston’s sister-in-law, Pat Houston, said at the time. “It happens every day.”

In light of the recent passing of Whitney Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, there might be a renewed interest in the late singer’s life and death.

Do you have interest in viewing a biopic about Whitney Houston–especially while knowing her family is not at all in favor of its creation?

  • Whitney Houston Live Album Releases in November

Whitney Houston never released a live album while she was alive. Clive Davis is releasing a live compilation of her greatest live performances into an album that is set for release in November–more than two years after her untimely death.

Davis–who discovered Whitney Houston back in the early 1980s–appeared on The Today Show last week and shared his big announcement.

“She was without question the greatest vocalist in the world,” he told Hoda Kotb.

“Whitney Houston Live: Her Greatest Performances” will be out in CD, DVD, and digital format on November 10th.

“There was no one like her,” Davis added following his announcement.

“Whitney Houston Live: Her Greatest Performances” will include classic hits like “You Give Good Love,” recorded during a Tonight Show appearance. It will feature “The Star Spangled Banner” from Super Bowl XXV, back in 1991. And it will include one of Whitney’s most heartfelt hits of all time, “I Will Always Love You,” as recorded at The Concert for a New South Africa back in 1994.

Clive Davis told Hoda Kotb that he was often there for Whitney Houston’s “incredible live performances,” and added, “it was a marvel that she was as powerful and as incredible as she was. But bittersweet that she died too young.”

Whitney Houston died at the age of 48, back on February 11, 2012.

Clive Davis says “Whitney Houston Live: Her Greatest Performances” is being produced with Cissy Houston’s blessing. He added that Cissy–Whitney’s mother–helped him assemble the tracks for the live album.

“This is her legacy,” Davis said of Whitney Houston.

It’s all the world–and her fans–have left of the brilliant singer, gone too soon.
