Lolo Jones To Become Bobsled Champion

It’s not unusual for athletes to excel in one sport and then transfer their energies to either learn another sport or diversify themselves within the originating sport. After becoming the name in basketball, Michael Jordan moved onto baseball for a period of time. Michael Phelps competed in multiple swimming competitions.

So, the recent career switch for the talented Lolo Jones should come as no surprise. Lolo Jones has already competed in the Olympics through the track and field competition where she participated as a 100-meter hurdler in track. She is now competing in the bobsled sport. Her diet has been adjusted to consume 9,000 calories a day in order to gain thirty pounds.

Lolo Jones understands the need to muscle and as an Olympic hopeful in the bobsled arena. “You’re with the bobsled at the truck and inhaling the smoke fumes from the exhaust pipe, just holding on. It’s a very blue-collar sport. It takes a tough person,” Lolo said.

Lolo’s past athletic record and prowess has not gone unnoticed. “Transitioning to bobsled, having her speed and power, and also that experience as an elite athlete … she’s at the top of her game in her respective sport. So I think she brought a lot of knowledge and maturity that way and was super open to bobsled,” Jazmine Fenlator said.

Bobsledding is a unique sport, which usually is not at the forethought of an aspiring athlete’s mind. Most bobsledding athletes have been actively involved in other sports. Elana Meyers, who is a U.S. pilot, explained the strength of this tendency where athletes from all different sports can use their knowledge and skills to advance the sport of bobsledding.

“Whenever we bring in new people, we tell them to use their experiences from the previous sport and bring what they already know into our sport. That’s the thing, everybody from our sport comes from a different sport. Nobody grows up bobsledding,” Elana Meyers said.

  • Jehue Gordon Hurdles His Way to Victory

Jehue Gordon Hurdles His Way to Victory

Humble, appreciative, and hard-working are just a few words that can be used to describe Jehue Gordon, the gold medal winner for the men’s 400-meter hurdles at the IAAF World Championships, which has been taking place in Moscow.

Jehue, who is originally from Trinidad and Tobago, completed the competition in 47.69 seconds. Michael Tinsley, from the United States, completed in 47.70 seconds just 0.1 seconds after Gordon. While the race was won through a split second, the gold medalist vocalized his appreciation via Twitter.

One may expect a gold medalist, to take a moment to celebrate the victory; however, Jehue Gordon has plans to rest and prepare for other potential competitions. Isn’t that what makes a winner? Hard-work and continually striving to reach higher?

Fans of the disciplined athlete have also taken to Twitter to express their support and admiration.

While there is no surefire recipe for success, it seems that rigorous discipline and perseverance help increase the odds that someone can achieve long-desired goals. Jehue Gordon is a testament to that philosophy. Of course having a mother who gives excellent advice is also an ingredient that may lead to success.

  • Michelle Jenneke Might Be Sexy, But She’s a Damn Fine Athlete, Too

Michelle Jenneke dancing at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona could be looked upon in a number of different ways. The first, and probably most popular, opinion being spread around is that the video objectifies women. Seeing as how the majority of folks live with their minds permanently stuck to the proverbial gutter, that argument makes sense. Plus, it’s kind of hard to argue the point when people have taken said video and slowed it down, allowing her jiggling and gyrating to last a bit longer than it should. I totally get it.

However, what a lot of people are missing is this: 19 year-old Australian hurdler Michelle Jenneke is a pretty spiffy athlete, as well. If she had lost this event in a miserable fashion, face flat on the ground with her rump stuck straight up in the air, I’d say that people are just perverts and dismiss the clip entirely. However, Jenneke kicks some serious butt, and smiles the entire time she’s doing it. So what if she’s in good shape? So what if she dances around as a way to loosen up before an event? It obviously helps her dominate her opponents. Get over it.

So take a peek at the clip embedded below. You know you want to, regardless of whether or not you’re willing to admit it. However, while you’re watching a 19 year-old bounce around before a competition, know that she’s much better at hurdling than you will ever be.

That, to me, is sexier than anything else.
