  • Howie Mandel Says ‘Deal or No Deal’ is Risk Vs. Reward, Just Like NYSE

Howie Mandel Says ‘Deal or No Deal’ is Risk Vs. Reward, Just Like NYSE

Howie Mandel says that ‘Deal or No Deal’ is risk versus reward, just like the New York Stock Exchange. He says the decision process is the same. “That’s ultimately what the stock exchange is about,” says Mandel. “How do you divvy up your portfolio? By the same token, when there is somebody sitting on our floor what do they do?”

Mandel rang the stock exchange bell this morning in honor of “Deal or No Deal” being revived on the popular financial network CNBC. Mandel is both the star and the producer of the show.

Howie Mandel, host and executive producer of CNBC’s ‘Deal or No Deal,’ discussed on CNBC how his show and investing on the New York Stock Exchange are very similar:

Deal or No Deal – It’s Risk Vs. Reward

It’s real. That’s why I’m so thrilled to be a small part of CNBC. When we first did it in 2005 there are books on investment that have quoted, talked about, and studied what Deal or No Deal is. It’s risk versus reward. That’s ultimately what the stock exchange is about. How do you divvy up your portfolio? By the same token, when there is somebody sitting on our floor what do they do?

How do you walk away? I said that Wednesday night. The guy said that on the first offer, “That’s half of what I make a year.” Would you invest half of your earnings in the stock market right now and go for it? Ultimately, there is no divine answer. What’s the big strategy on Deal or No Deal? What’s the big strategy on the New York Stock Exchange floor? Taking the big risk or playing it safe? It’s somewhere in between. But it’s also where you are in your life and what your needs are. With more risk, there is probably more reward, but can you afford to do that? What are you putting at stake for doing that?

So when people walk away, like the first episode that actually aired during Christmas, there was a young man who had a wife and a baby and he played it risking it. All the way to the end he risked it. Two cases were left of $5 and $750,000, and an offer of $350,000 was on the board. There was an opportunity to negotiate. He said, “No Deal” and went All In and walked out with just $5. How many people have done this on this New York Stock Exchange floor right here?

Trend with Media is to be Aware It’s Always Changing

The trend with media is to be aware that it’s always changing. Whether it’s with Netflix, or whether it’s with some other digital or Facebook, how people and different sectors of our population are ingesting and buying into this there is not one answer. There may be an answer right this minute. Right now people are binge-watching on Netflix. Next year it could be Facebook or YouTube or ten-minute bites. I think we have to be kind of fluid and open.

  • Howie Mandel Sued For Damaging Restaurant

Howie Mandel Sued For Damaging Restaurant

Sometimes if you want to pull a prank of some sort, it’ll cost you some money, especially if you damage other people’s property.

That’s exactly what happened to comedian and actor Howie Mandel, as he was sued for a sum of $103,408 by the owner of a Los Angeles based restaurant named Cowboys and Turbans.

Reportedly, Mandel caused the damage when he was filming his TBS show “Deal With It,” where he and others pull pranks on random people in a public area. One of the women on the show had to curse up a storm, very loudly, while in the restaurant, and she also broke many dishes and jumped on expensive furniture, like a Yamaha piano.

The owner of Cowboys and Turbans isn’t only suing Mandel for the damages, he’s also suing TBS and the show’s production company, Alevy Productions.

With the impending court case, it’s clear to see that Mandel has his hands full these day, especially since he’s a judge on the popular TV show “Who’s Got Talent?” in addition to hosting his own prank show. But he’s also making the TV rounds talking about America’s mental health problem, as he himself sufferers from ADD and OCD.

In an interview with CNN’s Erin Burnett, the 58-year old said that he suffered a great deal as a child, because he never knew what was wrong with him, and he felt all alone. “As a child I didn’t know that these things even existed,” he said. “I knew that I felt isolated.”

Additionally, Mandel said that people need to take the same preventative steps with their mental health, as they do with the other parts of their bodies. “We take care of our dental health, we don’t take care of our mental health,” he said. “We are so behind in the world as to not have something in place that just teaches everyone how to cope.”

  • Howard Stern and Howie Mandel Have A Catfight

Considering who Howard Stern is, and considering his new job consists of critiquing people’s talents, it’s not really a shock that he’s getting snarky. In fact, I’ve been waiting for it since his first night on the show.

Apparently Stern didn’t take kindly to Howie Mandel taking the nice-guy approach with a contestant on Tuesday night’s episode and wasn’t afraid to call him out on it. When “Big Barry” butchered a version of Nina Simone’s “Feelin’ Good”, Mandel gave his critique with some niceties.

“Barry, I’m going to be totally honest with you. You’re not a good singer. But you’re an amazing character, and you’ve got this God-given stature and sound,” Mandel said. “I think you’re an incredible novelty act that people would come and see and pay for.”

Stern immediately ripped into Mandel by way of a passive-aggressive comment aimed at Big Barry.

“You know, the Howie filibuster is getting annoying to me actually,” Stern said. “I gotta tell you, Big Barry, this isn’t about you. This is about Howie and how he treats the show. This is about the apology you owe Flo Jo’s daughter [Mary Joyner], Andrew DeLeon — all the people who could have gotten through instead of Big Barry. It’s offensive.”

It almost seemed like Mandel wanted to push Big Barry through just to irritate the other two judges, who both voted to cast him out. Sharon Osbourne actually reached over and pushed Mandel’s buzzer for him before getting in the middle of their bickering to get them to stop.

Similar episodes of “American Idol” come to mind, when the judges were split two to one on whether or not to send someone through and it became something of a matter of principle rather than one of actual talent. We’ll see if Howie continues to rub Stern the wrong way; for now, watch the video of the episode and tell us what you think.
