  • ‘House Of Cards’ Season 2 Gets An Early Review

We have just over two more weeks until Netflix releases House of Cards: Season 2, which will debut on February 14th. Fans have been waiting for a year, which has seemed like an eternity, to see what happens with the Underwoods and their friends (and enemies). Soon they will have to wait no longer (until they watch the entire season in one weekend and have to wait another year).

Unfortunately, we don’t have early access to the season, but Variety TV columnist Brian Lowry was able to get a glimpse at the first four episodes, which he deems “a winning hand.”

He begins, “The first season of ‘House of Cards’ achieved the dual feat of instantly emerging as a first-rate drama while simultaneously being seriously overrated – riding the ‘Netflix reinvents TV’ angle and juicy inside-the-Beltway bits to front-page coverage. No fools they, season two generally proceeds with more of the same, exhibiting a show with abundant strengths – foremost among them Kevin Spacey’s showy performance as an unscrupulous politician – but also underplayed weaknesses, including a continuing failure to present its scheming protagonist with equally matched foes. Dense and smart, ‘Cards’ is still partially skating by on reputation – and for Netflix’s purposes, that’s good enough.”

Just to give you a little context regarding the reviewer, Lowry said this of the first season last year: “The Kevin Spacey vehicle isn’t without some annoying tics, and feels a little late boarding the bandwagon of projects with Washington politics as a backdrop,” but went on to say other, more positive things about it.

I’ll let you read the rest of his Season 2 review at Variety, but suffice it to say, I still feel fairly confident that we’ll get another entertaining season of Netflix’s flagship original series. The trailers have helped with that confidence too.

By the way, the House of Cards Tumblr has put up a couple more of those cinemagraphs:

  • ‘House Of Cards’ Season 2 Gets More Cinemagraphs

Earlier this month, House of Cards showrunner Beau Willimon told fans that a “slew” of new cinemagraph GIFs for Season 2 were on the way. He shared the first one featuring Kevin Spacey at the time:

  • Awards Season Has Led To Big Spikes In Viewership for Netflix Originals

We’ve been covering most of the awards recognition that Netflix’s original content has been getting over the past few months, and as it turns out, all of those awards and nominations are having a substantial boost on viewership.

Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos talked about viewing trends in the company’s Q4 earnings interview on Wednesday, specifically referring to House of Cards and Orange is the New Black.

“The audience for those shows is continuing to grow as we’d hoped, particularly in the last few months around all of the awards recognition and awards publicity the shows have received,” he said. “We’ve seen nice spikes in viewership of the first episode of these shows, and there’s a lot of re-watching going on as well.”

“With all the buzz around the new season of House of Cards starting up February 14th people have gone back and are re-watching the first season,” he added. “In fact, we’ve done thing like added director’s commentary to that to make it a differentiated experience to go back and watch the show again so we’re seeing both the overall audience expand and the viewing hours grow with these shows month over month over month.”

More on the director’s commentary here.

“We’re pleased with the growth,” CFO David Wells added. “We’ve got some big second seasons coming out this year, and we’ll continue to monitor it, but right now it’s as expected.”

The two indicated that the company’s original content spend will continue to account for a bigger piece of its content spending pie as time goes on.

Netflix’s shows have so far won Emmys and Golden Globes, and a Netflix original documentary is currently up for an Academy Award.

  • Robin Wright Gets Golden Globe For ‘House Of Cards’ (First For A Netflix Series)

Add another award to the Netflix trophy case. Actress Robin Wright scored a Golden Globe Sunday night in the Best Actress In A TV Drama category for her role as Claire Underwood in House of Cards.

Wright was up against Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife, Tatiana Maslany for Orphan Black, Kerry Washington for Scandal and Taylor Schilling for Netflix’s Orange is the New Black.

Netflix shows actually had a total of six nominations among them. In addition to Wright’s and Schilling’s, Kevin Spacey was up for Best Actor in a TV Drama (HoC), Corey Stoll was up for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Mini-Series or TV Movie (HoC), House of Cards was up for Best TV Series, Drama, and Jason Bateman was up for Best Actor in a TV Comedy for Arrested Development.

House of Cards took three Emmys last year. The new season is set to debut on February 14th. It will be Netflix’s first foray into 4K ultra HD video, though most people probably won’t see it that way for a while.

Last week, Netflix released director’s commentary for all of the first season.

Netflix’s Orange is the New Black won a People’s Choice Award last week. The company is also looking for some Oscar love with a recent documentary acquisition. The nominations will be announced on Thursday.

  • Netflix: All Originals (And ‘Breaking Bad’) To Be 4K, 3D Support May End

Netflix: All Originals (And ‘Breaking Bad’) To Be 4K, 3D Support May End

All of Netflix’s original shows will be produced in 4K, according to the company. CEO Reed Hastings said as much at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas, where he promoted the company’s use of the ultra HD video format along with partnerships with TV makers.

We knew that House of Cards: Season 2 was produced in 4K, and a new trailer (also in 4K) was made available this week. Now we can expect upcoming seasons of shows like Hemlock Grove and Orange is the New Black to follow suit, not to mention initial seasons of shows that have yet to debut (like Sense8 and the untitled project from the Damages creators).

Netflix reportedly has partnerships in place with Sony, LG, Vizio and Samsung for 4K video. The Hollywood Reporter shares some comments from Hastings:

“Netflix is working with Sony to create a fabulous entertainment experience. When 4K started to be talked about, we saw the Internet as the natural medium to deliver it because most 4K content was going to be available online. We know that content creators are very excited about 4K because of the additional picture range they get to play with. All new original content from Netflix, including season two of House of Cards, will be shot, edited and produced in 4K…and we’ve been working with Sony to show Breaking Bad in 4K.”

He added that Netflix’ 4K service will require 15Mb/s of in-home bandwidth compressed using HEVC. “This is very practical,” said Hastings. “You can stream 4K over WiFi if you want to. It’s testament to the work we’ve been doing on encoding and what Sony has been doing on decoding.”

Hastings also appeared at LG’s press conference at CES, which saw the launch of LG’s Web OS-powered Ultra HD smart TVs.

As Netflix focuses on 4K content, 3D appears to be taking a backseat. A year ago, Netflix launched Super HD and 3D streaming, but now the company is indicating that 3D will likely go away due to lack of interest.

Giga Om’s Janko Roettgers spoke with Netflix’s Joris Evers at CES, and was told that the company may end support for 3D in the future. Evers also reportedly said that Netflix will not charge consumers any extra money to watch content in Ultra HD.

  • Here’s A 4K Video On YouTube (House Of Cards Trailer)

Last week, reports came out indicating that YouTube would be showing off 4K video at the Consumer Electronics Show this week.

Netflix has just put out a new trailer for House of Cards: Season 2, which comes with a 4K viewing option (2160p), in addition to 1440p, 1080p and 720p HD options.

According to a report from Giga Om, Google has nineteen hardware partners lined up for 4K. These include ARM, Intel, Broadcom, Marvell, Samsung, Sharp, Toshiba, LG, Panasonic and Sony.

Google is offering its 4K video via its own ultra HD VP9 codec, which is to reportedly serve as a royalty-free alternative to the H.265 codec.VP9 is epxected to hit PCs and mobile devices first, and then TVs by 2015.

Netflix revealed late last year that House of Cards: Season 2 would be its first original content shot for 4K. The season debuts on February 14th.

  • ‘House Of Cards’ Season 2: Netflix Releases New Trailer

Netflix has released a new official trailer for the upcoming House of Cards: Season 2:

This is the third trailer Netflix has released for the second season of its flagship original series. The first was just a teaser, then a real trailer was released a few weeks ago (“And the butchery begins.”).

The season will be made available to Netflix subscribers on February 14th. Netflix is also putting out some cool cinemagraphs to promote it.

It’s worth noting that the new trailer is available in 4K, as House of Cards: Season 2 is the first real Netflix material to be shot for it. This is also a confirmation that YouTube is offering 4K streams, which it is supposed to be showing off at CES this week.

  • Netflix Starts Offering DVD-Like Extras With ‘House Of Cards’ Director’s Commentary

A few months ago, we learned that Netflix was planning on offering DVD-like extras for some of its streaming content.

It appears that it has begun to do so, as it announced today that you can now watch the first season of House of Cards with director’s commentary.

Every episode from the first season is now available with commentary. The first two episodes feature David Fincher. The rest feature James Foley, Joel Schumacher, Charles McDougal, Carl Franklin and Allen Coulter.

It will be interesting to see if the second season debuts with commentary or if it will come later. Perhaps they’ll eventually add some behind-the-scenes stuff and/or actor commentary (it would be nice to get some from Kevin Spacey). The second season will include an episode directed by Jodie Foster. Perhaps we’ll hear what she has to say about the experience.

We could be seeing similar features appear for Netflix’s other originals in the near future. It would also be nice to see actual DVD extras for the various films Netflix offers via its streaming option. It seems like a strong possibility.

    Engadget reported in October:

Netflix’s VP of Product Innovation, Todd Yellin, mentioned at the GigaOm Mobilized conference today that the company will begin testing enhanced content or extra features around its original shows such as House of Cards or Orange is the New Black. If that works out, he says Netflix is open to offering DVD extra-style content to other partner providers as well. “Hopefully if we try something like that,” said Yellin, “We have that lightning bolt of an idea that it’s more than just a tiny percent user game.” For those who’re in the process of giving up physical media, additional extras like these could certainly be welcome.

    Stay tuned.

  • Kevin Spacey Will School The Content Marketing Industry This Year

Kevin Spacey Will School The Content Marketing Industry This Year

Well, you if you weren’t already planning on attending Content Marketing World this year, you have a big reason to do so now. It was announced on Friday that Kevin Spacey will be headlining the event, providing the closing keynote.

And if you’ve seen this speech he gave last year at the Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival, you’ll probably be even more compelled to attend:

In fact, that speech prompted the Content Marketing Institute, which hosts Content Marketing World, to put out a blog post in August about “corporate storytelling lessons from Kevin Spacey”. Now, content marketers will get to hear some advice from Spacey directly.

“We are beyond thrilled to have Kevin Spacey joins us for this year’s event,” said Joe Pulizzi, founder of the Content Marketing Institute. “Mr. Spacey is a dynamic actor, writer, producer and director. His critically-acclaimed Netflix original series, House of Cards, has broken content distribution barriers in television. We believe he has great insight that applies to content marketing and corporate storytelling that will resonate with our audience.”

The Cleveland event drew 1,700 marketing and PR professionals from 46 countries last year. With this announcement, we expect interest to be even higher this year.

Other confirmed speakers for 2014 include representatives from brands like Kraft Foods, Microsoft, Facebook, SAP, Cisco, Coca-Cola Brazil, as well as various other industry professionals.

Content Marketing World – Cleveland 2014 from Content Marketing Institute on Vimeo.

The event will take place from September 8th to September 11th at the Cleveland Convention Center. Registration is open with early bird rates being offered until the end of February.

Spacey will return to Netflix in the second season of House of Cards on February 14th. Check out the new cinemagraph Netflix just put out to promote it.

  • ‘House Of Cards’ Season 2 Gets Promotional Cinemagraphs (Here’s The First One)

‘House Of Cards’ Season 2 Gets Promotional Cinemagraphs (Here’s The First One)

On Wednesday, House of Cards showrunner Beau Willimon took to the House of Cards subreddit to tell fans, “We created a slew of cinemagraph GIFS for Season 2 and I wanted to share this one with you first. Just a taste for now, but LOTS MORE to come, so keep your eyes peeled, your ears to the ground, and your smart-devices at your finger-tips.”

The post linked to the following GIF in Imgur.

Netflix posted it to YouTube today:

  • ‘House Of Cards’ Season 2 Is Made For 4K Ultra HD

Last month, Netflix added a handful of videos to its streaming catalogue as part of a test for 4K Ultra HD video content, which the company will launch next year.

It just so happens that the first real Ultra HD offering from the company will be the second season of House of Cards, which debuts on February 14th.

Stuff shares some comments from Netflix Chief Product Officer Neil Hunt, who said that the company is working with several major TV manufacturers who will be producing 4K capable TVs, which will be announced at CES. These will be the only way to watch the show in 4K at first.

In other words, while House of Cards: Season 2 may be available this way, you probably won’t get to watch it that way for a while.

Hunt told Stuff Netflix is working specifically with David Fincher on the show, and it’s shot and edited for 4K delivery. He says there will be some other “additional pieces,” but just a “set of sample offerings, not a big part of the catalogue.”

Netflix expects 4K-ready TVs to get much cheaper over the coming years, so while it may take a while, you’ll probably be watching a lot more Netflix content this way somewhere down the road.

  • ‘House Of Cards’ Season 2 Gets New Trailer (And The Butchery Begins)

Netflix has released a new trailer for the upcoming second season of House of Cards. The company released a teaser, and announced the season’s February 14th release date last week.

    “And the butchery begins.”

    Chills.

House of Cards is currently up for SAG, Writers Guild and People’s Choice Awards.

  • Breaking Bad Snags Multiple Golden Globe Nominations

Breaking Bad just finished its five-year run, and as one of the most popular television shows of all time, it is no wonder that the show received all of the television nominations that it could get at the Golden Globe Awards. The fan favorite aired on AMC, and it is the only show from the channel that also includes hit shows The Wakling Dead and Mad Men, to get a nomination.

The Golden Globes have several surprises in terms of shows that are nominated this year, although everyone knew that Breaking Bad would come up big when the Golden Globe nominations were announced. Breaking Bad was very popular in its final season especially, after all of its fans were able to catch up, and had one of the best series finales in history.

The nominations were announced this morning for the show that honors the top performers in both film and television. The full list of nominees can be seen here, with Breaking Bad leading the pack, along with The Big Bang Theory, and the Netflix original, House Of Cards.

With the success of House Of Cards, among others, Neflix was able to earn six nominations for this year’s award show, second to only HBO, which tends to dominated TV cateogries.

Breaking Bad also came away with similar results when it came to the nominations at the SAG Awards, which were released yesterday. 30 Rock is also a big contender this year, despite only airing a few of its episode this year.

In terms of films at this year’s Golden Globes, American Hustle and 12 Years A Slave will be leading the way with seven nominations each.

Breaking Bad features an outstanding cast that was also nominated for the Best Ensemble category in the SAG Awards, and the show received Golden Globe nominations for Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, and Best Television Series-Drama. Coming off of the success of Breaking Bad, Aaron Paul also recently got a new gig accompanying a talking horse in an animated Netflix original show called BoJack Horseman.

While it is nominated for everything else, the surprising snub for the show is the fact that Anna Gunn, who played Skylar White, was not nominated for her performance. One of the other biggest snubs is certainly completely leaving out both HBO hit Game of Thrones and Showtime’s Homeland.

It is no surprise that Breaking Bad has snagged more nominations than other television show after becoming Netflix’s most popular show, being ranked far ahead of its original shows House Of Cards, and Orange Is The New Black, which was surprisingly left out of the Golden Globes ceremony in the Best Television Series-Drama category.

Breaking Bad leads the pack of television shows, in a very competitive year that saw Netflix change the way people watch television more than before with its own original shows. Tune in on Sunday, January 12th in order to see who will win.

  • Netflix Shows ‘House Of Cards,’ ‘Orange Is The New Black’ & ‘Arrested Development’ Net Six Golden Globe Nominations

The award nominations just keep coming for Netflix’s original series. The Golden Globe nominations are out now, and Netflix shows have combined for six of them – four for House of Cards specifically.

HoC’s Kevin Spacey is up for Best Actor in a TV Series, Drama. He’s going against Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Michael Sheen (Masters of Sex), James Spader (The Blacklist) and Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan).

Spacey’s co-star Robin Wright is up for Best Actress in a TV Series, Drama, facing off against Taylor Schilling for Netflix’s Orange is the New Black, as well as Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife), Kerry Washington (Scandal) and Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black).

Corey Stoll is up for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Mini-Series or TV Movie for House of Cards against Rob Lowe (Behind the Candelabra), Josh Charles (The Good Wife), Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) and Jon Voight (Ray Donovan).

House of Cards itself is up for Best TV Series, Drama, against Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, Masters of Sex and The Good Wife.

Finally, Arrested Development’s Jason Bateman is up for Best Actor in a TV Series, Comedy against Don Cheadle (House of Lies), Michael J. Fox (The Michael J. Fox Show), Jim Parsons (The Big Bing Theory) and Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine-Nine).

Spacey is also up for a SAG Award. Meanwhile, House of Cards and Orange is the New Black combined for seven Writers Guild Award nominations.

House of Cards, Orange is the New Black and Arrested Development are competing with each other for a People’s Choice Award.

Netflix shows combined for fourteen Emmy nominations and three wins. The wins were all for House of Cards.

As if all of this wasn’t enough, The Square, a documentary Netflix recently acquired is also generating some Oscar buzz.

House of Cards: Season 2 is set to debut on Netflix on Valentine’s Day. The second season of Lilyhammer, Netflix’s first original, debuts on Friday.

  • Netflix’s ‘House Of Cards’ Gets Kevin Spacey SAG Award Nomination

The Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations for 2014 were announced today. Kevin Spacey has received a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series for his role on Netflix’s House of Cards.

He’s up against Steve Buscemi for Boardwalk Empire, Bryan Cranston for Breaking Bad, Jeff Daniels for The Newsroom and Peter Dinklage for Game of Thrones. Not exactly a gimme.

While this is Spacey’s first nomination for the category, he’s no stranger to the SAG awards. He won two in 2000 for American Beauty, and was nominated in 2009 for Male TV Movie Or Miniseries for Recount, in 1998 for Motion Picture Cast for L.A. Confidential and in 1996 for Male Support for The Usual Suspects.

The 2014 nomination only adds to the increasing number of awards Netflix shows, and House of Cards in particular, have been nominated for. It started with fourteen Emmy nominations for Netflix originals, nine of which were for House of Cards. The show ended up winning three of them. The show is also up for a People’s Choice Award (competing against its Netflix peers Arrested Development and Orange is the New Black) and three Writers Guild awards. Orange is the New Black is also up for four Writers Guild Awards.

House of Cards: Season 2 is set to debut on Valentine’s Day.

  • Netflix Shows Nominated For 7 Writers Guild Awards

Netflix shows continue to rack up award nominations. The Writers Guild Awards nominations for 2014 are out, and House of Cards and Orange is the New Black make a total of seven appearances.

House of Cards is nominated for Drama Series, New Series and Episodic Drama – Episode 101. Orange is the New Black is nominated for Comedy Series, New Series, and twice for Episodic Comedy – Pilot and Lesbian Request Denied (the latter was the famous Jodie Foster-directed episode).

People’s Choice Awards nominations came out a month ago with Netflix’s Arrested Development, House of Cards and Orange is the New Black all competing in the same category – Favorite Streaming Series.

Netflix shows were nominated for a combined fourteen Emmys, and ultimately took home three – each for House of Cards (directing, casting and cinematography). Hemlock Grove and Arrested Development also had a few nominations, but no wins. Orange is the New Black was released too late for eligibility, but look out for it in 2014.

Netflix announced this week that House of Cards: Season 2 will make its debut on Valentine’s Day. Orange is the New Black: Season 2 is currently in production, and will be released on an unannounced date in 2014.

  • House Of Cards: Season 2 Premiere Date Announced

The House Of Cards season 2 premiere date has finally been announced, and fans of the show will be excited to hear that it is not too far off. One of the first Netflix originals, House Of Cards became an Emmy winning show after its first season, gaining a lot of popularity with Netflix users.

The binge-watching favorite is back, and in a matter of months fans will be able to feast their eyes on the power-hungry character of Frank Underwood, played by Kevin Spacey. House of Cards will return to Netflix with its full 13 episode season on February 14.

In addition to Kevin Spacey, the show features a top-notch cast including Robin Wright, Kate Mara and more. The first season of the critically acclaimed show was nominated for nine Emmys, including acting nominations for both Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright.

House Of Cards features a Congressman (Spacey), who works with his equally conniving wife (Wright), to exact revenge on the people who betrayed him. The second season will feature the couple continuing their rise to power, as threats build up on multiple fronts. At the same time, Zoe Barnes (Mara), an ambitious reporter, will continue to get closer to the truth about his crimes.

As it did with the first season, Netflix will present the entire season of House Of Cards at once, allowing for fans to binge-watch, a practice that is becoming more popular with shows such as House Of Cards, and several others.

A new teaser trailer was also presented that reveals the date, and with no sound, simply shows Robin Wright’s character smoking a cigarette. Much is left to the imagination of the fans of the show, allowing for people to get even more excited about the upcoming season that premieres on Valentine’s Day.

House Of Cards is a political drama that has gained a lot of attention over the past year, as fans continue to spread the word, and convince other people to get hooked on the popular show.

  • House of Cards Season 2 Release Date Now Official: Valentine’s Day 2014

House of Cards Season 2 Release Date Now Official: Valentine’s Day 2014

It’s official, you guys. Netflix’s hit original series House of Cards will be back for its second season on Valentine’s Day, 2014.

That means that season two comes just over a year after the show premiered its first season (February 1st, 2013). Netflix’s official House of Cards Twitter account just tweeted out this simple message: 02.14.14.

Oh yeah, and a teaser –

A few weeks ago, we told you that filming on the second season was just about to wrap.

Will the second season be the final season? Well, that’s still up in the air. Earlier this year, one of the show’s producers suggested that House of Cards would probably be a two-and-done series. But Netflix’s content chief Ted Sarandos recently said that a season three may happen after all.

“Our intent is that the show keep going for sure. It was a 26-episode commitment. It was not our intent that it just run for two seasons…talks are in progress right now, so stay tuned,” he said at Film Independent’s annual confab back in October.

If House of Cards did end its run after just two seasons, it wouldn’t be for lack of popularity or critical acclaim. Not only did the show give Netflix a few Emmys, but the show seems to have played a big part in Netflix’s success over the past year.

  • ‘House of Cards’ Season 2 Is About To Wrap

Netflix’s House of Cards: Season 2 has been filming since well before Season 1 was winning Emmys, and now, it’s finally about to wrap.

    Showrunner Beau Willimon tweeted today:

Can you feel it getting closer?

While no release date has been set for Season 2 yet, the first season debuted in February. It’s hard to say if they’ll get the new one out at the one-year anniversary, but if they do, it’s really not that far off.

It remains to be seen if House of Cards will continue past Season 2. One of the show’s producers recently suggested that it would probably be the last one, but Netflix has been implying that it would like to keep it going. We’ll see.

House of Cards is currently up for a People’s Choice Award, facing off against other Netflix titles Arrested Development and Orange is the New Black.

  • Netflix Shows Compete For People’s Choice Award

The 2014 People’s Choice Awards nominees are out now, and that includes the five nominees for the Favorite Streaming Series category.

Believe it or not, Netflix has a presence here (I know, hard to believe considering its shows already garnered fourteen Emmy nominations and three wins). Hemlock Grove isn’t present this time, but Arrested Development, House of Cards and Orange is the New Black are competing against one another for the prize, along with Between Two Ferns With Zach Galifianakis and Losing It With John Stamos.

Common thinking is that OITNB would have been nominated for some Emmys if it were released in time, and is largely expected to have a presence at next year’s awards, so it’s no surprise to see it nominated for a PCA.

As far as these awards go, the streaming category should only get more interesting in years to come as more players offer more high quality streaming content (look for titles from Amazon and Hulu, for example, not to mention a whole lot more from Netflix).

You can see all the nominees across categories and cast your votes for the 2014 People’s Choice Awards here.

  • ‘House Of Cards’ Season 3 May Happen After All

Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos gave a keynote speech at Film Independent’s annual confab over the weekend, suggesting that we might just see a third season of the Emmy-winning House of Cards.

Things hadn’t been looking very promising for the continuation of the series past the second season after comments recently made by one of the producers. Earlier this month, reports came out that Rick Cleveland, co-executive producer on the first two chapters of the series, said at the Vancouver International Film Festival that the first two seasons would probably be the only ones ever produced, noting that stars Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright like to do movies.

Showrunner Beau Williamson had indicated in the past, however, that he would like to continue on with the series, though the original Netflix deal was only for two seasons.

    Deadline quotes Sarandos as saying:

“Our intent is that the show keep going for sure. It was a 26-episode commitment. It was not our intent that it just run for two seasons.”

    ..

“Talks are in progress right now, so stay tuned.”

Obviously things could still go either way, but it is somewhat encouraging that Kevin Spacey recently gave an amazing speech about the Netflix model and how it’s changing the game. During that, he didn’t strike me as someone who was ready to walk away from the show.

I doubt money will be too big of an issue for Netflix, given that they’re planning on doubling their investment in original content. Keeping their biggest Emmy winner (so far) on the slate is probably a pretty big priority.

House of Cards: Season 2 is due out in 2014.
