  • Jennifer Lawrence ‘Hunger Games’ Song Hits Top 40

For her new film The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1, actress Jennifer Lawrence recorded a song for the soundtrack, which hit the Top 40 music chart in the United Kingdom.

The song, entitled “The Hanging Tree,” features Lawrence’s vocals, and has charted at #14, according to the BBC. It will be revealed on Wednesday if the track breaks the U.S. Top 40 Hot 100 chart.

Mockingjay, Part 1 director Francis Lawrence claims that the Oscar-winning actress, 24, was reluctant to sing the song herself. The director commented, “I knew she didn’t love the idea of singing, but I didn’t realize how nervous she was until when we started the first take, and she was in tears. Not totally broken down, but she was unhappy. She would have much rather we used somebody else’s voice. I think she said she wanted Lorde (who sings the movie’s theme song) to do it!”

    Here is “The Hanging Tree”:

Commenting on how Lawrence’s vocals sound similar to her speaking voice, the director added, “It shouldn’t sound like a professional. It should sound like a real girl singing. So she did it. She did it all day. And she has a really cool sound to her voice. There’s kind of a raspy texture to it. So it was not terrible in the slightest.”

Here is the trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1:

According to studio estimates, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 raked in roughly $83 million during the five-day Thanksgiving holiday and $57 million for the three-day weekend. Since opening last weekend, Mockingjay has earned about $480 million worldwide.

Fans take to Twitter to discuss Lawrence’s new track:

Regarding Jennifer Lawrence and Twitter, the actress recently opened up on her views regarding social media.

“I will never get Twitter. I’m not very good on phone or technology. I cannot really keep up with emails so the idea of Twitter is so unthinkable to me. I don’t really understand what it is. It’s like this weird enigma that people talk about. It’s fine. I respect that,” Lawrence remarked.

  • Candice Swanepoel Tops Maxim’s Hot 100 List

There’s a new it girl in town this year, and her name is Candice Swanepoel. The 25-year-old Victoria’s Secret supermodel was just crowned No. 1 on Maxim magazine’s annual Hot 100 list. Rounding out the top three this year are Scarlett Johansson (who came thisclose to the top spot), and pop star Katy Perry. Surprisingly, last year’s number one – Miley Cyrus – was moved all the way down to #25 this year.

In an official Maxim press release, winner Candice said, “It’s a huge honor to be Maxim’s number one, among so many beautiful and talented women! It’s a great feeling.” Creative Director Paul Martinez added that Candice was the “ideal embodiment of the new Maxim brand: stunning, sophisticated, elegant. It’s not only her flawless beauty and effortless grace that have garnered her the coveted Number 1, but also her business acumen. She has risen to become one of the world’s top supermodels and has transcended the accolade to become a global brand. It’s hard to imagine a woman more perfect.”

Other honorees on the list include Jennifer Lawrence, Zooey Deschanel, and Mila Kunis. Making their debut on this year’s list are newcomer Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street), the Brazilian model Lisalla Montenegro, and famous reality star Kendall Jenner. Although most fans rejoice over the list, names such as Blake Lively and Adriana Lima were surprisingly left out this year.

However, Candice definitely earned the top spot this year; the South African supermodel (who was discovered at age 15 in a flea market) has built quite a name for herself already – Candice came in at number 9 on Forbes’s list of highest-paid models. Besides Victoria’s Secret, Candice shoots for Versace and Juicy Couture. She was also honored by wearing the $10 million Fantasy Bra at last year’s Victoria’s Secret fashion show (which had been previously worn by legends Gisele Bündchen and Alessandra Ambrosio).

Topping this year’s list seems to be just the start for Candice – we’re sure to see much more of the blonde bombshell in the future!

Katy Perry performed her No. 1 hit “Dark Horse” at the Grammys this past Sunday.

Quite a few YouTube users had a lot to say about the performance.

“The question we should ask ourselves is: who’s idea was to make this performance? Katy perry is a pop icon. shes the faces of a corporation and the mainstream music industry. people like her barely act on their own. there is always a team of experts telling her how to live her life, what to sing, and what to perform. shes just the face of an enormous corporate effort. there are people behind the scenes here. we shouldnt act like katy perry is author of what she does because she probably isnt,” said one user.

Another continued to say, “F****n haters……GET A F***N LIFE!…..Katty’s performance was awesome! it was one of the best at the Grammy’s…the bass beat was amazing, the dancing was even more amazing……KEEP IT UP KATTY! One of the best songs ever created, and I’m not even a fan…..”

  • Eminem and Rihanna Tease New Video “The Monster”

Eminem and Rihanna’s hit new song “The Monster” has been dominating the music charts. Soaring now at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, the duo decided to have a little celebration.

Eminem released a brief preview to the highly-anticipated music video yesterday, Dec. 13.

In the preview, Rihanna acts as a counselor of sorts, analyzing Eminem (who is playing the patient.) Eminem sits in a chair as he watches a series of words like “family” and “addiction” pop up on a television set. He slowly goes into some sort of trance as the sounds in the room begin to grow. It’s certainly a pretty sweet preview.

What do you think of the video?

“The Monster” appears on Eminem’s “The Marshall Mathers LP2.” The album hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in November.

Her first chart topping record was “Pon De Replay,” which as released in 2005.“Monster” is calculated as Rihanna’s 45th record to actually make the Billboard Hot 100. She and Mariah Carey are tied with 45 Hot 100 entries.

Billboard editorial director, Bill Werde, took to Twitter to personally congratulate the “Love the Way You Lie” singer for such a notable accomplishment.

She re-tweeted his post, and took a moment to thank her fans, whom she affectionately refers to as the “Navy.” The “Where Have You Been” singer showed expressed her gratitude by thanking fans for helping her achieve such an incredible feat.
