  • Hope Solo Makes Court Appearance, Her Domestic Abuse Trial Set for January

Hope Solo, who was arrested in June on domestic violence charges, will be facing a jury of her peers in January, according to the Seattle Times.

The soccer star and her lawyer made an appearance Tuesday at Kirkland Municipal Court in Washington, where her trial date was set for Jan. 20, 2015.

The judge in the case also ruled during Tuesday’s court appearance that her attorney could depose the alleged victims in the case: Solo’s half-sister and nephew, who have allegedly refused to participate in a recorded interview with defense attorneys.

Solo, 33, is accused of assaulting family members during a drunken encounter at the home of the soccer star’s half-sister.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist has continued to play on the US national team since her arrest, causing some controversy. Some critics say she should not be allowed to play, noting that several NFL players accused of or having admitted to domestic violence have been removed from the sport.

Back in June, police officers were sent to the home of the singer’s half-sister on reports that a woman was “going crazy and hitting people.” During the altercation, Solo’s half-sister and nephew were allegedly injured.

After her arrest, Solo took to Facebook to apologize.

“I understand that, as a public figure, I am held to a higher standard of conduct,” she wrote. “I take seriously my responsibilities as a role model and sincerely apologize to everyone I have disappointed.”

Solo also touched on her family issues in the post. An affidavit indicates that she had been estranged from her half-sister and nephew until recently.

“I love my family dearly,” Solo wrote. “We, like all families, have our challenges, but my sincere hope is that we are able to resolve this situation as a family. Adversity has always made us stronger and I know this situation will be no different.”

  • Hope Solo’s Domestic Violence Trial Set for Nov. 4

Hope Solo‘s domestic violence case, which stems from an alleged incident that took place at her sister’s home in June, is set for Nov. 4 in Kirkland, Washington.

The 33-year-old soccer star appeared Monday before a Municipal Court judge with her husband, former NFL player Jerramy Stevens.

“We were hoping for a trial as early as possible,” said Solo’s attorney, Todd Maybrown, in an email to the Seattle Times. “Looking at the schedule, November was the earliest date possible.”

The goalkeeper for the Seattle Reign and a University of Washington graduate, who helped the national team to gold medals in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, has pleaded not guilty to gross-misdemeanor charges. If convicted, Solo could face up to six months in prison.

Police were dispatched June 21 to her sister’s home, where she was allegedly “going crazy and hitting people.”

According to court documents, police arrived to the sounds of shouting from Solo, who was reportedly drunk. Her sister and 17-year-old nephew were said to be crying with visible injuries. During a two-day stint in jail, she entered a plea of not guilty on two counts of fourth-degree domestic assault. She was then released on her own recognizance.

On June 26, she took to Facebook with an apology, calling the incident “highly unfortunate”.

“I understand that, as a public figure, I am held to a higher standard of conduct,” she said. “I take seriously my responsibilities as a role model and sincerely apologize to everyone I have disappointed.”

She added that she was confident her name would be cleared.

Solo continues to practice with the Seattle Reign, and the trial date is not expected to conflict with Reign matches nor the October qualifying matches for the 2015 World Cup. The team has said it will decide her future with the team following the trial’s outcome.

Hope Solo Could Spend Six Months In Jail

Hope Solo was hoping that the fourth-degree domestic violence charges against her would be dropped. Her court date for the charges was originally scheduled for November, but she appeared in court on Monday to request that the case be dismissed.

Solo has been accused of assaulting her nephew and half-sister and if convicted, she could be sentenced to up to six months in jail.

In June Solo was visiting her family when she got into an argument with her nephew and later, her sister. Solo then got violent with them and hit them repeatedly.

According to several sources, Solo’s nephew called 911 for help and said that Solo had attacked him and his mother and was continuing to threaten them. They had talked her into leaving the home once but she returned and started attacking them again.

Solo was still at the home when the police arrived and they witnessed her yelling and screaming at her sister and nephew. The police also noticed that Solo’s sister and nephew both had scratches, red marks and scars on their bodies from the attack.

Solo was arrested and stayed in jail for two days. She pleaded not guilty to the charges and issued an apology to her fans saying,

“I would like to apologize to my fans, teammates, coaches, marketing partners and the entire US Soccer and Seattle Reign FC communities for my involvement in a highly unfortunate incident this past weekend.“I understand that, as a public figure, I am held to a higher standard of conduct. I take seriously my responsibilities as a role model and sincerely apologize to everyone I have disappointed.”

“I understand that, as a public figure, I am held to a higher standard of conduct,” she later added. “I take seriously my responsibilities as a role model and sincerely apologize to everyone I have disappointed.”

Solo’s lawyer claims that she was the victim of the crime and has asked that all evidence be excluded from the trial. She will appear in court again in November.
