James Lipton Says He Was a Pimp in France

James Lipton is best known for hosting the TV show Inside the Actors Studio, in which he conducts serious interviews with big-name Hollywood actors and actresses. It turns out, however, that the 86-year-old Lipton has a much more interesting past that involves French bordellos.

In an interview this week with Parade, Lipton confirmed that he was a pimp in Paris during the 50s. He stated that he befriended a prostitute in the city, who arranged the job for him after he ran out of money. Lipton said that he represented an entire bordello of women, taking a cut of the revenue.

Lipton emphasized that he believes the women, who were desperate for money just after World War II, were not exploited. He stated that his efforts were “completely regulated” and that the girls received medical inspections on a weekly basis.

“The great bordellos were still flourishing in those days before the sheriff of Paris, a woman, closed them down,” said Lipton. “It was a different time.”

Lipton called the experience “a great year” of his life. He also stated that he doesn’t think people should buy sex, and that if someone can’t “earn it” on their own, they don’t deserve it.

Lipton also mentioned his role in the comedy series Arrested Development during the interview. He has reprised his role as Warden Gentles in the Netflix-produced fourth season of the show, which was released this weekend.

  • Top Hooker TV Series to Air on Animal Planet

The producers of the reality show The Ultimate Fighter are bringing a new reality series to TV called Top Hooker.

It’s not what you may be thinking – reality TV hasn’t quite stooped that low. Yet.

The producers have gathered “America’s best and boldest fishermen to take on Animal Planet’s extreme fishing competition.” The show will air on the Animal Planet channel. From last year’s casting call:

On this brand new TV show, you and a handful of daring fishing enthusiasts will tackle exciting and intense challenges on America’s rivers, lakes, streams and even the open ocean. Are you ready for adventure?

We are looking for competitive, outgoing, and skilled anglers, spear fishermen, game fishermen, fly fishermen, trawlers and trappers from all walks of life. It doesn’t matter if your experience is commercial, sport or recreational. As long as you’re skilled, adaptable, and confident enough to take on anything we throw at you, you could win a big grand prize and the title of Animal Planet’s first Top Hooker.

So, the real Top Hooker isn’t likely to be as interesting as a different sort of Top Hooker might be. However, the world is probably better off with the reality TV show America’s Next Top Hooker remaining only a dark parody from the video game Grand Theft Auto IV.

  • Hookers Advertise Half Price Deals on Twitter

CBS Philly recently did an undercover story in which they went disguised as a “John” to see a hooker that was advertising on Twitter.

They found out that prostitutes were using Twitter to advertise, and to even set up appointments.

Their hidden camera team set up an appointment with a hooker at a Motel in Wilmington, Delaware by communicating with her exclusively on Twitter. The met with another in Cherry Hill, NJ, also listing her availability on Twitter.

According to CBS Philly, these prostitutes are constantly tweeting to tell prospective clients where they are, and when they will be available: “She posted tweets like: ‘Philly, I’m back for 2 days only’ or ‘One more day til my AC Trip,’ advising her followers to ‘book early.’”

Their investigation took them to Mount Laurel Police Detective Ed Pincus, who said his department didn’t have enough resources to crack down on them: “We don’t have the manpower to be out there doing this non-stop. We could be.”

“It gives [prostitutes] that ability to reach their customers immediately,” says Rob D’Ovidio, a cyber crime expert at Drexel University to CBS Philly. “If it’s a slow day, and they want to lure in customers, they can quickly get that blurb out there, half price specials, happy hour specials.”

Really this should come as no surprise. Social Media is a way to connect people. Odds are someone out there is going to use new communication channels like Twitter to illicit sex.
