  • Joe Manganiello: Sofia Vergara’s Hubby Joins Cast of History Channel’s Military Drama “Six”

Joe Manganiello, probably best known as Sofia Vergara’s husband and one of the stars of Magic Mike XXL, has signed on to the cast of the History Channel’s upcoming military drama Six.

Taking on the role of Rip Taggart, who Deadline describes as “a gruff, haggard, and aggressive military man who was once the squad leader of Seal Team Six,” Joe Manganiello will soon find his character working in Africa, providing protection to a small village from Boko Haram.

Six is written by William Broyles (Jarhead) and David Broyles, and is inspired by actual military events.

Manganiello stars opposite Barry Sloane in the eight-episode military drama.

In addition to Barry Sloane and Joe Manganiello, Six will star Dominic Adams and Juan Pablo Raba.

Besides Magic Mike XXL, Joe Manganiello also appeared in True Blood. He will also soon appear on the big screen alongside–wait for it–Pee-wee Herman. If that gives you an icky feeling, you’re certainly not alone.

    Really?

It is uncertain when Six will begin airing, or if production has begun.

Are you a Joe Manganiello fan? Does this new show on the History Channel sound intriguing?

  • Corey Harrison Of Pawn Stars Loses 192 Pounds

It looks like “Big Hoss” isn’t so big anymore!

Corey Harrison of the History Channel’s Pawn Stars recently revealed his dramatic weight loss- 192 pounds to be exact.

At his highest weight, Corey weighed approximately 400 pounds. The doctors realized that Corey’s weight could have tremendous side effects on his health, so they put him on a preventative medication for diabetes in 2010. Corey said this was an instant wake-up call that he needed to make a major lifestyle change.

“I literally drove straight from the doctor to the lap band center and had the surgery almost immediately,” Harrison told PEOPLE of his weight loss procedure. “Back then, the surgery was too expensive for my bank account, so I had to pay with four credit cards, but it was something I had to do – I was not going to get diabetes!”

Harrison underwent a gastric band procedure, and was able to drop 50 pounds in the first six weeks post-surgery. Within the next year, Corey lost another 100 pounds. “I could never go back to weighing as much as I did,” he said. “It made me realize what I ate, how I ate and what I did to myself. It was a WOW moment.”

Corey now weighs in at 210 pounds and continues to live a healthy lifestyle. “I’m actually excited to go to the gym now. I box 12 rounds a day five days a week,” Harrison admitted. “When I was a teenager I loved snowboarding, but in my 20s I was too big to strap my feet in the boards. Being able to finally touch my toes made me realize I could snowboard again, so I went out and got new gear immediately.”

Corey’s extreme success has inspired the rest of the Pawn Stars cast to change their eating habits as well, including Corey’s best friend and co-worker Austin “Chumlee” Russell. “It was time for me to get healthy,” Russell said. “I started at 320 lbs. and now I’m down to 225. When I first began, I eliminated all processed foods except mustard. Now, ‘everything in moderation’ is my motto.”

  • ‘Ice Road Truckers’ Driver Tim Zickuhr Charged With Kidnapping Vegas Hooker

‘Ice Road Truckers’ Driver Tim Zickuhr Charged With Kidnapping Vegas Hooker

Tim Zickuhr, one of the drivers on History Channel’s show Ice Road Truckers: Deadliest Roads, is facing felony charges for purportedly kidnapping a prostitute named Lisa Cadeau, also called “Snow White.”

According to police reports, Zickuhr went to an ATM machine and asked Cadeau to use his credit card to withdraw cash so that he could pay her for sexual services. Cadeau withdrew too much cash, which angered Zickuhr. He then allegedly tied up the prostitute and locked her in a closet back in his apartment. Zickuhr told Cadeau to give him a phone number that he could call so that he could get back the money she owed him.

In addition to locking her up, reports also indicated that Zickuhr punched Cadeau in the face while threatening to kill her if she didn’t give back the money.

What the reality star didn’t know was that Cadeau was a “citizen source,” and that the phone number she gave him was for a Las Vegas police officer’s phone.

According to the officer who received the call, Zickuhr told him to show up at a phone booth and bring $1000 or else he would kill Cadeau. He also mentioned that he heard Cadeau screaming through the phone before that call was disconnected.

The officer eventually followed the lead and was able to arrest Zickuhr behind a casino in Las Vegas.

Roy Nelson, Zickuhr’s attorney, said that his client maintains his innocence to “any criminal wrongdoing.” He also explained that Cadeau, the alleged victim, has credibility issues. Authorities will be performing an investigation regarding the events that transpired on the night of the incident.

The History Channel has not released a statement regarding the issue. It was noted, however, that Zickuhr has not been part of the show since the second season.

Zickuhr is due to appear in court in May.

  • ‘Ice Road Truckers’ Star Arrested for Kidnapping Prostitute

The show Ice Road Truckers on The History Channel showcases multiple different truckers driving on frozen lakes and rivers near the Arctic in places such as Canada and Alaska. The show’s appeal comes from the adrenaline rush viewers receive by watching these truckers narrowly escape peril after peril, all for the sake of making some extra cash. The show debuted on The History Channel in 2007, and by 2010 had enough of an audience that it spawned a spin-off entitled Ice Road Truckers: Deadliest Roads. Apparently the thrill wasn’t enough for one IRT: Deadliest Roads driver, however, as he has been charged for the kidnapping of a Las Vegas prostitute, along with extortion and coercion.

Tim Zickuhr was arrested on December 18, 2013 following a bizarre series of events involving the prostitute Snow White, real name Lisa Cadeau.

According to the police report, Zickuhr had solicited Snow White for sexual favors on the night of December 18. Instead of getting the money to pay her himself, however, he gave his credit card to Snow White and told her to go to the ATM to withdraw the money herself. And then things went downhill in a hurry.

After performing the sexual favors, one presumes, Zickuhr informed Snow White that she had withdrawn too much money and that he wanted the $1,000 she overdrew back. According to Snow White, however, she did not withdraw such a large amount of money.

“I only withdrew the $80 I was supposed to and an additional $120 that I wasn’t,” Cadeau revealed.

When the two met up the next day to settle said dispute, things got out of hand.

“I met with him because he was searching for me door to door in the neighborhood and I paid him $300. He held the grudge and needed $1,000 to pull himself out of a rut from the steroids he was in debt over,” recalled Cadeau.

When Snow White arrived at Zickuhr’s apartment, he attacked her, punching her in the face before tying her up with backpack straps, dumping dirty water from a mop bucket on her, and then forcing her into a closet.

After discovering that Snow White did not have the $1,000 to hand over, Zickuhr demanded that she call someone who could post the debt for her. That’s when Snow White’s street-smarts kicked in. Instead of giving him the number to a close friend or a pimp, Snow White gave Zickuhr the number of a police officer friend who had given Snow White his number in case she ever found herself in a precarious situation.

Upon connecting with the police officer, Zickuhr stated that he, “…had Snow White, and if [the officer] didn’t bring $1,000 to a phone booth at Lynwood and Sahara, he was going to go to Mexico to kill Snow White.”

Little did Zickuhr know that his neighbors had heard Snow White screaming in the apartment and had called the police. When the Las Vegas police department arrived at his apartment, the nervous Zickuhr forced Snow White to jump out of the second floor window onto a car port.

In the meantime, Zickuhr met with the police officer he had made the previous arrangements behind a casino and was promptly arrested.

Zickuhr is charged with first-degree kidnapping, extortion, and coercion. His court date is currently set for May 6.

  • ‘Pawn Stars’ Chumlee Not Dead, Despite Rumors

In further proof that internet websites will do absolutely anything to increase page-views, the recently spread rumor that Pawn Stars character “Chumlee” is dead has been proven to be a hoax.

Yesterday, the site eBuzzd ran an article entitled, ” ‘Pawn Stars’ Funnyman Chumlee Dies of Apparent Heart Attack,” in which the site stated that sources revealed Chumlee, real name Austin Russell, had died of a devastating heart attack caused by his rapid weight loss of 75 pounds over one year.

The site went as far as to quote an “actual” physician about the effects rapid weight-loss could have on the body. Unfortunately for the website’s credibility, the physician correctly stated that “From what I know, Mr. Russell lost 75 pounds in about a year’s time. This can be a healthy and safe amount of weight to lose in a year but it all depends on the method and lifestyle in which the weight was shed.”

If that wasn’t going far enough with the hoax, eBuzzd also quoted the reaction from a “family friend”: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend Chumlee. This is all so sudden and shocking. He was truly one of the sweetest men I knew. He will be missed.”

In order to debunk the false rumors of his death, Chumlee took to Twitter to ensure all of his friends that he is still alive and well:

And if this message was too cryptic, boss Rick Harrison added more credibility to the fact that Chumlee is most certainly not dead:

Apparently, reporting news of this sort is nothing new to eBuzzd. The little-known website has run other false stories this year including the reported death of Betty White, Tom Cruise quitting Scientology, and Justin Bieber being involved in a serious car accident.

This is also not the first time Chumlee has been reported as dead. Last year, The Internet Chronicle ran a story which reported that Chumlee had died of a marijuana overdose, a story which Snopes quickly identified as false.

  • ‘Son of God’: Jesus Remains, Satan is Cut

‘Son of God’: Jesus Remains, Satan is Cut

The New Testament story of Jesus Christ will once again hit the big screens on February 28th. This time it has taken a different approach to Mel Gibson’s 2004 film The Passion of the Christ, which focused more on the final moments of Jesus in Jerusalem up until his torture and crucifixion.

The movie Son of God, however, will go more in depth about the birth of Jesus, his teachings, execution, and resurrection.

According to a synopsis on the film’s official website, this is an experience you would not want to miss:

Told with the scope and scale of an action epic, the film features powerful performances, exotic locales, dazzling visual effects and a rich orchestral score from Oscar®-winner Hans Zimmer.

For leading actor Diogo Morgado, conducting a little research prepared him for his role as Jesus.

The 6’2, Portugal-native portrayed Jesus once before in The History Channel’s Emmy nominated miniseries The Bible. As a Christian, Morgado’s new cameo gave him the opportunity to learn even more about his faith just by observing his surroundings.

While visiting the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, Morgado told Good Morning America Wednesday that he encountered an experience that put everything into perspective.

He expressed how his portrayal of the Biblical leader inspires him to educate people, but especially children:

I saw this father and a young kid, they were praying. And I stood for like two hours there. By the time I left, they were still praying and I realized whatever I was about to do would be connectinore with that kid than his father. We live in a visual world now. Kids can learn a lot by seeing things rather than reading it. So I really understood the responsibility…

There’s a lot of people out there. A lot of kids, especially. They don’t know who exactly Jesus was. So, this is actually a tool that can teach these kids about why Jesus was who he was and why the Bible was the most important book.

Well, one character that will be standing on the sidelines this time around is Satan.

Film producer Roma Downey made sure to edit out any scenes involving the villain due to negative feedback regarding the appearance of Satan in The Bible, which critics said uncannily resembled President Barack Obama.

Below is a Fox News coverage about the controversy:

Downey and her husband, who were also executive producers of the miniseries, decided to cut actor Mehdi Ouzaani from the 2013 TV special. In response to the controversy, they also released statements asserting that the Moroccan actor “previously played parts in several Biblical epics — including satanic characters long before Barack Obama was elected as our president.”

Now, with another chance to redeem their filmmaking reputation, yanking Satan out of the equation may be the way to go (cough, cough).

“It gives me great pleasure to tell you that the devil is on the cutting-room floor,” Downey told The Hollywood Reporter. “This is now a movie about Jesus, the son of God, and the devil gets no more screen time.”

Well, I think that The Passion of the Christ will always be one of the most superb Christian films about Jesus. Therefore, I may just pass on this one UNLESS reviews direct me otherwise.

However, the film Noah, which will recreate one of the Bible’s most catastrophic events, seems very interesting. Honestly, why would you not want to see a big wooden boat fight against a colossal rainfall as God wipes out the earth with a flood?

What are your thoughts? Do you think that the portrayal of Jesus will be the same without his foe being in the mix?

Here is the trailer to Son of God:

  • Bonnie And Clyde Miniseries Draws In Fans Across 3 Networks

Bonnie And Clyde has finally hit the small screen. The crime duo made famous by the 1967 film starring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunnaway has been the inspiration for a new TV miniseries, and aired on multiple networks simultaneously in a miniseries that started last night.

The miniseries has become a hit already, drawing in the long-time fans of the film and history buffs who are interested in the tale. Bonnie and Clyde were real life criminals who became notorious for robbing banks, and went on one of the most infamous bank-robbing sprees in history.

The duo seem to still be popular with audiences, after a very successful premiere night, bringing in a total of 9.8 million viewers. Bonnie And Clyde is being shown on three different networks, which might help it get more viewers too, and is being shown on all of the A&E networks, Lifetime, A&E, and History. This marks the first time that the A&E Networks have ever done an simulcast across all three networks at the same time.

The miniseries has been criticized by some for not being the most historically accurate representation, although that did not seem to deter any audience members. Bonnie And Clyde stars Emile Hirsch and Holliday Grainger as Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker. Other notable stars in the cast include Holly Hunter and William Hurt.

Bonnie And Clyde put up impressive numbers, however, it fell short to the previous two miniseries which ran on the History channel, Hatfields And McCoys and The Bible. Hatfields and McCoys opened with 13.9 million viewers, and The Bible brought in 13.1 million viewers. In last night’s simulcast, the History channel led the way with 3.7 million viewers, followed by Lifetime with 3.1 million viewers and A&E with 3 million viewers.

The first episode of Bonnie And Clyde aired on Sunday, December 8th, and will conclude the two night event tonight at 9 p.m. After the ratings from last night, Bonnie And Clyde becomes cable’s best miniseries opening among total viewers since 2006’s Broken Trail.

  • “Roots” Remake in the Works with History Network

The historically ground-breaking television mini-series may be making its way back to cable television. However, it won’t be the classic 1977 version, based on Alex Haley’s original screenplay. Like most notable films, “Roots” has been selected for a remake.

According to CBS News, the History network announced on Tuesday that a deal had been reached with film producer, Mark Wolper to acquire rights to remake the film. For those who aren’t familiar with Wolper’s work, he actually produced, the film sequel, “Roots: The Gift,” back in 1988. The notable producer has a history with executive production of television movies, series, documentaries, and mini-series. Wolper’s father, David, is also credited as the producer of the original “Roots” mini-series. The project is still in the early developmental stages, which means there is still a substantial chance that it won’t make it to production.

The original production of “Roots” captured the grueling generational oppression of a slave family. The film chronicled more than 300 years of the family’s lineage. “Roots” garnered 37 Emmy Award nominations, and nine wins. The film also received a Golden Globe and a Peabody Award.

The History network has been relatively successful with their latest mini-series releases. The network is also responsible for the full-length dramatization of “Hatfields & McCoys,” with Kevin Costner, and the 10-hour mini-series of “The Bible.” The History network received a number of laudable accolades for the production of “The Bible.” The film attracted an average of approximately 11 million viewers, and received three Emmy nominations.

While great strides will be required to top the staggering 100 million viewers that the original series received, the network definitely has a reputation of delivering where mini-series are concerned. If their “Roots” remake is anything comparable to their recent productions, then fans can expect the new mini-series to be a modernized masterpiece. If everything goes according to plan, the film should be slated for a 2015 release.

  • “Roots” Remake May Come to History Channel

“Roots” Remake May Come to History Channel

The History Channel is getting ready to ride the wave of their miniseries success, and remake a classic miniseries, “Roots”, according to AP. History has found enormous success with it’s two most recent ventures, “The Bible” and “Hatfields and McCoys”, and will hopefully continue that success in “Roots”.

The network said Tuesday that it had wrapped up talks and had made a deal with Mark Wolper, the son of the man behind the original, David Wolper. History will aquire the rights to remake the 1977 classic, and the project is now in development. The project could still fall through, but if it doesn’t, it should be on TV sometime in 2015.

The original miniseries, which was produced on a budget of $6.6 million, was based on the 1976 novel “Roots: The Saga of an American Family” by famed author Alex Haley. “Roots” received an astounding 37 Emmy Award nominations. The miniseries won nine Emmys along with a Golden Globe and a Peabody Award. The show still holds a Nielsen ratings record as the third highest rated television program of all time.

The show starred LeVar Burton in his breakout role as Kunta Kinte, from which he went on to play roles such as Geordi La Forge on “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and to have his own children’s show on PBS, “Reading Rainbow”.

When asked about the social impact of the incredibly successful miniseries, Burton is quoted as saying, “It expanded the consciousness of people. Blacks and whites began to see each other as human beings, not as stereotypes. And if you throw a pebble into the pond, you’re going to get ripples. I think the only constant is change, and it’s always slow. Anything that happens overnight is lacking in foundation. Roots is part of a changing trend, and it’s still being played out.”

  • William Bart Colantuono, Ax Men Pilot, Dies in Crash

William Bart Colantuono, Ax Men Pilot, Dies in Crash

At 3:42 PM on September 17, residents of Detroit, Oregon reported a helicopter crash near a logging site. “It had just returned after the pilot had taken a 45 minute break. The helicopter had picked up a load when witnesses reported hearing a loud snapping sound, which was followed by logs hitting the ground,” reported Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller.

Witnesses then say that a rotor was seen flying from the helicopter, shortly before the helicopter flipped upside down and crashed into the ground.

The pilot of said helicopter was William Bart Colantuono, a pilot for the popular TV series “Ax Men” on the History Channel during its 2nd and 3rd seasons. Colantuono was a pilot for R&R Conner Aviation,a family-owned and operated utility aviation service based out of Montana. According to their company website, Colantuono was “a veteran of the US Navy where he got his helicopter training,” and since his time in the Navy, had “accumulated 25 years of utility helicopter experience.”

Witnesses to the accident say that the helicopter manually dropped the logs before its crash, hinting that the pilot knew something was wrong before the crash occurred.

The History Channel described Colantuono as “a smart pilot who isn’t afraid to take risks. He’s been flying for long time and views helicopter logging as a competitive sport. He competes against himself, against the machine and against the weather. At the end of each day, the amount of logs left up on the landing tells him if he’s won or lost. Bart has a lot riding on is shoulders, and he believes he’s ready for the challenge.”

Colantuono was 54 years old, had 4 children, and was engaged to be married. He was also the author of the book Helilogging in a Sucker Hole , a fictional suspense-thriller novel about a heli-logger in Montana.

  • The Bible Miniseries Comes to the History Channel

A new miniseries titled The Bible has begun airing on the History Channel. The show premiered on Sunday March 3, and subsequent episodes will air each Sunday in March, with the last episode coming on March 31, also known as Easter Sunday.

The series is being produced by Mark Burnett and his wife, Roma Downey. Burnett is best-known for network reality TV shows such as Survivor, and Downey found fame in the 90s for playing an Angel in the series Touched by an Angel.

According to The Bible‘s website, the show will depict dramatizations of some of the best-known stories from the bible, including Noah’s ark, the Israelites’ exodus, and the birth of Jesus. The role of adult Jesus in the series will be played by Portuguese actor Diogo Morgado.

Despite being on the History Channel, The Bible will not be an examination of the historicity of the Christian bible. Instead, the series is a docu-drama based on various popular stories from the book. Also, some of the stories depicted have been altered to “create a moving story” within the series’ time constraints.

Rather than historical documentaries and research, the History Channel in recent years has been characterized by its pseudoscientific programming, such as Ancient Aliens, and reality TV shows such as Ax Men and Pawn Stars.

  • Hatfields & McCoys Might Be a Hit, but Costner is Too Busy to Notice

Hatfields & McCoys, the History Channel’s miniseries about the long-standing feud between the two families, has turned out to be a pretty big hit, with kudos coming in from all angles. Bill Paxton, Tom Berenger, and Kevin Costner star in the program, all of whom should be quite pleased with the results. If Twitter reactions are to be believed, there are quite a few individuals out there who simply cannot get enough of the historical drama.

What does Kevin Costner think of the miniseries’ sudden popularity? Nobody seems to know. Although producers have attempted to reach out to the “Field of Dreams” actor, he’s yet to make contact. The reason: Costner is currently diving off the coast of Africa in search of treasure. According to the Los Angeles Times, Costner owns a company that frequently embarks on such worldly expeditions, which effectively makes the guy a parttime Indiana Jones clone. Somebody should make a documentary about this post-haste.

Thinkfactory Media CEO Leslie Greif, the man responsible for bringing the tale to life on the small screen, has attempted to congratulate the star on his recent success, though he’s having some difficulty doing so. Apparently cell phone reception at the bottom of the ocean is a little spotty in that part of the world.

“No one can reach him. We’re all desperate to reach him. He has no idea what’s going on,” Greif explained. “He’s off the coast of Africa somewhere. He has a company that goes on explorations, and he’s on a treasure dive in parts unknown. He’s diving for treasure.”

Someone should tell him he’s looking in the wrong place for dry land.

When he isn’t trotting the globe in search of riches or lending his talents to the art of filmed entertainment, the “Bull Durham” alumni can be found rocking out with his band Kevin Costner and the Modern West. From what I understand, they’re not half bad. Have a listen below.

If you’re one of the many who missed the “Hatfields & McCoys” miniseries, fear not: You can always head down to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and partake in the Hatfield-McCoy Dinner Feud. Choose your table carefully.

  • Digital Map of Titanic to be Released

Using sonar imaging, and 100,000 photos from taken by submersibles, an expedition team put together a digital map of the Titanic, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ships ill-fated voyage. The study was conducted by RMS Titanic Inc., the legal custodian of the wreck, in tandem with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the Waitt Institute.

    (image)

Parks Stephenson, Titanic historian, states that study of previous image maps of the ship was akin to “trying to navigate a dark room with a weak flashlight.” Stephenson adds, “with the sonar map, it’s like suddenly the entire room lit up and you can go from room to room with a magnifying glass and document it. Nothing like this has ever been done for the Titanic site.”

Exact details of the new findings will be revelaed in a 2-hour special on the History Channel, airing April 15th. The team utilized two autonomous underwater robots, equipped with side-scan sonar, to map the wreckage along a grid, moving at roughly 3 miles per hour. The robots also snapped about 130,000 pictures, to build a photo mosaic of the debris. “When you look at the sonar map, you can see exactly what happened,” said Paul-Henry Nargeolet, the expedition’s co-leader with RMS Titanic Inc.

Dirk Hoogstra, a senior vice president at the History Channel states, “we’ve got this vision of the entire wreck that no one has ever seen before. Because we have, we’re going to be able to reconstruct exactly how the wreck happened. It’s groundbreaking, jaw-dropping stuff.”

In related news, James Cameron, director of the Oscar-winning Titanic movie, is set to explore the Mariana Trench, the deepest point in the world’s oceans.

  • A+E Networks And thePlatform Team Up For Mobile Video Content

You might have never heard of thePlatform, but you’ve certainly heard of the A+E Networks family of channels including, of course, A&E but other channels like Lifetime and History. The two companies have teamed up to expand its programming to more people.

In a company blog post, thePlatform announced the partnership that will see A+E Networks leveraging the company’s “video management system” to “consolidate [their] video workflow into one system.” John Cool, VP of Digital Media Technology at A+E Networks says that the partnership will help the network “reach new screens and outlets.”

The company will be using thePlatform’s mpx software to manage their video content. It contains a lot of features that will help A+E Networks expand their presence online. The biggest bonus to the software is that it allows them to easily publish videos to PCs, Macs, smartphones and tablets.

A&E already allows users to watch full episodes of their programming online. By utlizing mpx, it seems that the network will expanding their reach to mobile and beyond. This is nothing but good news for people who want to watch Hoarders or Storage Wars on their lunch break.

A+E Networks will be implementing mpx for BIO, History, A&E and Lifetime for now. The other channels owned by the network will get the support later down the road.

More and more channels are adding the option of online and mobile streaming so A&E is in good company. Before you know it, all your television content will be available for streaming.
