  • Loudest Stadium Award Goes To….. Arrowhead Stadium!

For all of you NFL enthusiasts, the official numbers are definitely in! This time, there’s no doubt about it that the award for the loudest NFL stadium goes to Arrowhead Stadium.

Home of the Kansas City Chiefs, Arrowhead Stadium reached new heights on Sunday as fans roared in the final minutes of the game in wake of a momentous 24-7 victory over the Oakland Raiders. With an undefeated 6-0 record this season, devout Chiefs’ fans definitely have something to roar about. They turned up the volume, reaching a 137.5 decibel peak of sound in the final minutes of the game.

According to Guinness World Records, the record-breaking feat was actually accomplished when fans broke the 136.6 decibel sound barrier. That particular record was set earlier this season by Seattle Seahawk fans during the Seahawks-49ers game.

NBC Sports puts the magnitude of the sound level into perspective, stating that the noise is actually comparable to ‘a jet engine at 100 feet, which is about 140 decibels.’

The Chiefs fans, in conjunction with the team organization, have been accredited for the collaborated effort. The organization shelled out approximately $7,500 to bring in a Guinness adjudicator. Ironically, the adjudicator was Guinness official, Philip Robertson, who was actually on site for the Seahawks decibel record earlier this season. Robertson also weighed in on how the experience felt to him. “They destroyed any Premier League hopes of attaining this record, I can tell you that, and I’m a Brit that loves the Premier League. It was extraordinary,” said Robertson.

Chiefs head coach, Andy Reid stated that he actually ‘felt the ground shaking.’ It was also noted that the roaring sounds also shook the stadium press box as well. Ground shaking is definitely befitting for the experience overall.

  • World’s Oldest Man Has Died in NY

World’s Oldest Man Has Died in NY

Salustiano Sanchez-Blazquez, the world’s oldest man, has died at age 112. He had been a resident of a Grand Island, N.Y. nursing home since 2007.

Affectionately known as “Shorty”, Sanchez-Blazquez was born June 8, 1901 in El Tejado de Bejar, a small village province of Salamanca, Spain. Throughout his adolescent life, Sanchez-Blazquez developed a fervent admiration for music, and was also a self-taught musician. He was known for his musicianship playing the dulzaina, a Spanish double reed oboe. He’d used his skills playing the dulzaina as a source of income throughout his teenage years, performing for weddings and other celebrations around his village. He relocated to Cuba to work in numerous sugarcane fields at age 17.

By 1920, he immigrated to the United States to work in the Lynch, KY coal mines. Eventually, he settled in the Niagara Falls area of New York where he went on to marry his wife, Pearl, in 1934.  He spent the majority of his adult life working diligently as a coal miner by trade.

Guinness World Records’ consultant Robert Young stated that Sanchez-Blazquez became the world’s oldest man three months ago in June when Jiroemon Kimura passed away at age 116. Young went on to say that Sanchez-Blazquez was a gin rummy enthusiast, which was one of his favorite hobbies. He played nearly every evening. He also enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and gardening. Sanchez-Blazquez handled the announcement of the record setting feat with docile ease saying, “living so long was not a special accomplishment.” He simply accredited his longevity to one banana a day and Anacin aspirin daily.

According to CBS New York, Sanchez-Blazquez is survived by his 76-year-old son named John, 69-year-old daughter, Irene, seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

John Colucci, spokesperson for M.J. Colucci and Son Funeral Chapels stated that the service will be private, and that Sanchez-Blazquez’s interment will be at Gate of Heaven cemetery located in Lewiston, N.Y.

  • Motorola Mobility Treats Dubai International to “Visual Museum” and Possible World Record

If you’re traveling through Dubai’s International Airport, you’ll be treated to Motorola’s newest advertising effort that takes the form of an awe inspiring visual museum. More than anything else, the visual masterpiece is a chronology of Motorola’s past, present, and future.

Even more exciting, the Guinness Book of World Records is considering the effort for what could be the World’s longest and most extensive indoor branding project. The display runs 222.63 meters along the entire length of a corridor linking the airport’s Terminal 1 check-in area to Dubai’s Duty Free retail outlet in Concourse 1.

    Take a look:

Eugene Barry, Senior Vice President of Commercial at Dubai Airports comments on Motorola’s monumental advertising effort:

“Dubai International is hugely excited to host what is set to become a milestone in advertising history,”

“As one of the world’s busiest and most progressive airports, Motorola Mobility’s unique project could not have found a better platform to reach a wide, diverse and discerning global audience.”

“This remarkable project is not only a celebration of our astonishing and accomplished history, but also a bold statement of intent for a dynamic future relentlessly driven by the spirit of invention.”

The enormous project was executed by JCDecaux and was completed in a mere seven days. No word yet on when Guinness will make its decision about including it in the World’s record books yet, but we’ll keep you posted.

David Bourg, Managing Director at JCDecaux Middle East comments on the magnitude of the project:

“The campaign came in with a brilliant concept and was realized through an efficient and well-coordinated execution. We are very pleased to make this significant project happen as our fundamental mission is to introduce innovative advertising solutions that add value to our partners.”

  • Guinness Perfection: It’s All In The Pour

Guinness Perfection: It’s All In The Pour

Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, there’s a viral video going around showing the unwashed masses how to “Pour the Perfect Guinness from a Can.” The video, which leads this post, is perhaps the most concise, useful tip going into this weekend’s green theme, so much so, in fact, that since the video’s posting–March 13, 2012–the 30-plus second clip has garnered over 100,000 views.

The process of pouring the perfect Guinness looks pretty simple. It has nothing to do with the angle of the can or the glass it’s being poured into. Simply put the can directly into the glass and let the liquid fill up the glass. Once it reaches the can and “the avalanche of bubbles settles,” pull the can out and let it finish filling the glass. The result? A gorgeous glass of beer with the perfect head on it. Considering the weekend’s festivities, I wonder how many people will be trying this at home? I just hope they post videos of their attempts.

Speaking of St. Patrick’s Day, Twitter is in the mood for beer-drinking fun:

Actually, considering the video, forget about that. Drink all the perfectly-poured Guinness your heart desires. Just don’t drive.

Now that’s how you endorse a holiday that encourages abject inebriation. Granted, the history of the holiday is a little more than wearing green clothes, drinking green beer and eating cabbage, but these are the reasons it’s so popular, especially in the United States.

Just remember, designated drivers are your friend.

  • Guinness World Record 2012 Gamer’s Edition Goes Mobile and Casual

Guinness World Records don’t have the gravitas they once did; anyone reading this could theoretically go achieve a world record today and have it featured by Guinness. Nothing proves this more than the Guinness World Record 2012 Gamer’s Edition. The book contains records for “Largest Competitive Pokémon Videogame Family“, “Most People Exercising to a Videogame“, and “Most Valuable Kinect Sensor“.

To coincide with the press release below, Guinness also created a video for their Pokemon family entry. While there are many obscure records, I still live in amazement of the hardcore Donkey Kong players, with the record holder amassing 1,090,000 points. If you’ve ever played the Donkey Kong arcade game, you know that’s no small feat.
