  • Whitney Bischoff and ‘Bachelor’ Chris Soules: Modern Day ‘Green Acres?’

Whitney Bischoff won’t be marrying The Bachelor, Chris Soules. The couple issued a statement late last week, confirming their split, just two months after he presented her with that illustrious rose on The Bachelor finale.

“Whitney Bischoff and Chris Soules have mutually and amicably decided to end their engagement,” they told Us Weekly in a joint statement. “They part with nothing but respect and admiration for one another and will continue to be supportive friends. They wish to thank everyone who has supported them through this journey.”

Prior to Chris and Whitney’s statement, fans learned of their split from the creator of The Bachelor, Mike Fleiss.

He shared the news via Twitter.

Everyone is dying to know what went wrong between Whitney Bischoff and Chris Soules. And while those outside the realm of reality TV can speculate about the way they met, the stress they were under in keeping up appearances for the show’s sake, and the bizarre notion of meeting that perfect someone that takes place on shows like The Bachelor, unless someone personally knows either Whitney Bischoff or Chris Soules, fans may never truly know what contributed to them breaking their engagement.

A couple of things that may have contributed to the demise of their relationship, however, involve that ever-popular cliche–location, location, location.

Chris Soules was in L.A. for a while, appearing as a contestant on Dancing With the Stars. It became quite clear then that he wasn’t a fan of the city. Whitney Bischoff is from Chicago, where she has a career as a fertility nurse. Rumors swirled while Chris was in L.A. that things weren’t going well for the couple, but ultimately she visited him on his farm for a week when he was eliminated from DWTS and sent home.

Might Whitney Bischoff have discovered at the same time Chris discovered his disdain for city life that farm life simply wasn’t for her? Does this remind you of the theme song from Green Acres?

“All this,” Chris noted of Hollywood fame and celebrity during an interview several weeks ago, “is not real life. L.A. isn’t real life for me. Arlington is and Chicago–that’s real life and we want to take that step and then we’ll make [wedding] plans.”

Whitney Bischoff recently thanked her fans, friends, and family members for their love and support. She returned to a warm welcome in Chicago following her split from Chris Soules.

“Now this little gal knows how to make me smile!” she captioned an Instagram post. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your outpouring love, kindness and support! It means so much to me!”

What do you think went wrong for these two? Do you suspect location, location, location played a big role in Whitney Bischoff and Chris Soules splitting up? Or do you think things just aren’t destined to work out for a couple who pursues romance the way these two did on The Bachelor?

  • Mary Grace Canfield, “Green Acres” Actress, Dies At Age 89

Mary Grace Canfield, a classic television actress, has passed away the age of 89. She never gained a great amount of fame as many other actors did, but she had a long career of acting as a character actress on a variety of television shows.

The news of her death was reported from Mary Grace Canfield’s daughter, Phoebe Alexiades. She said that her mother died from lung cancer on Saturday, February 15th. Canfield was in a hospice in Santa Barbara, California, at the time of her death.

She is most most well-known to audiences in her role as Ralph Monroe in the popular series Green Acres. Monroe was a handy-woman, and would greet people in the town by announcing herself and saying “Howdy doody.”

On the series, Mary Grace Canfield’s character would dress in painters’ overalls and was forever working on the Douglas family’s bedroom with her brother, Alf. Green Acres was a show that centered on a New York attorney and his wife, chronicling their funny adventures as they begin a new life as farmers.

The two of them try to live as genteel farmers in the bizarre fictional community of Hooterville. The couple on the show, Oliver and Lisa Douglas, were played by Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor. It was a family comedy that ran for 30 minutes, and as a series, lasted for 170 episodes.

Canfield appeared in roughly 40 episodes of the show, and the series ran from 1965 until 1971. Throughout her career, Canfield acted in several shows, appearing in select shows over a career that last nearly four decades. Her career included episodes on the long-running General Hospital, as well as The Hathaways and one of the biggest shows of the 1960s, Bewitched.

Mary Grace Canfield will always be remembered by audiences as the cheerful character on Green Acres, and as an actress who appeared in several other classic television shows for brief time periods.

  • Frank Cady Dies: “Green Acres” Actor Was 96

Frank Cady, who was best known for his work on the ’60s television show “Green Acres” as general store owner Sam Drucker, has died at his Oregon home at the age of 96.

Cady had a remarkable acting career, beginning in 1936 and ending in 1990. Aside from playing several roles on popular television shows such as “Ozzie And Harriet” and “The Andy Griffith Show”, he was the first and only actor to play a recurring character on three separate shows which ran simultaneously: “Green Acres”, “Petticoat Junction”, and “The Beverly Hillbillies”. He also had a small role in Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window. For the most part, Cady was cast in the same sort of roles over and over again, but he once said that didn’t bother him.

“You get typecast. I’m remembered for those shows and not for some pretty good acting jobs I did other times,” he said. “I suppose I ought to be grateful for that. Because otherwise I wouldn’t be remembered at all. I’ve got to be one of the luckiest guys in the world.”

Cady also served in WWII and was married for 58 years to the love of his life, Shirley, who died in 2008. They are survived by a son and daughter, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
