  • Derek Hough Will Not Return to ‘DWTS’ Season 22

Derek Hough will reportedly not be returning to compete on Season 22 of Dancing with the Stars Season 22.

Sources have told various news outlets that Hough, 30, is taking the season off to perform in Singin’ in the Rain on Broadway.

“Derek will always love Dancing with the Stars and the friends he’s made through the show,” an insider told Us Weekly magazine. “And the door isn’t closed there. He’ll always be a part of the family.”

Singin’ in the Rain producer Harvey Weinstein announced on Saturday that Hough will take the lead in the musical, which was followed by posts from Hough himself sharing the news on social media.

Hough’s announcement comes on the heels of news that his sister, former dancing pro Julianne Hough, won’t return as a judge on the new season. The 27-year-old Grease Live star said in February she “will miss” the show but has “a lot of exciting stuff coming.”

“The pro dancers, producers and crew at DTWS will always be my family,” she said in a statement. “I promise it’s not the last you’ll see of me in the ballroom.”

In January 2015, Hough said he would not return to the ABC dance competition’s 20th season because he was focusing on his role in Radio City Music Hall’s New York Spring Spectacular. A month later he decided to pull double duty and rejoined the cast as gymnast Nastia Liukin’s partner.

Derek Hough joined Dancing with the Stars as a pro in Season 5 and has won the coveted mirror-ball trophy six times, most recently with his partner on Season 21, Bindi Irwin.

Season 22 of Dancing With the Stars premieres March 21.

  • Vanessa Hudgens Shares Photo of Herself and Mom at Late Father’s Grave

Vanessa Hudgens lost her father, Greg Hudgens, to cancer less than 24 hours before she took the stage as Rizzo in Fox’s Grease: Live.

On Monday the actress took to social media, sharing a photo of herself with her mom as they visited her late father’s grave.

“Visiting pops with mama g,” Vanessa Hudgens captioned the shot.

Vanessa Hudgens shared word of her father’s passing via Twitter, assuring fans she would still perform in Grease: Live the next day.

About a week ago, the High School Musical star shared an old photo her mom found, of Vanessa Hudgens with her late dad.

“My mom found this picture of my dad and I. He would have hated that I’m sharing this but I think it’s just too cute. ❤️?,” she wrote.

Vanessa Hudgens and her boyfriend Austin Butler are under investigation for defacing rocks in Sedona, Arizona over Valentine’s Day weekend. A photo of a rock with their initials carved into it appeared on her Instagram page, but has since been removed. If the rock is located within the Red Rock Ranger District of the Coconino National Forest, where authorities expect it may very well be, Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler are in a pile of trouble. They could face a $5,000 and/or up to six months in jail.

The actress has enough on her mind with having just said goodbye to her father. Hopefully legal action doesn’t need to be taken against Vanessa Hudgens and her boyfriend, adding even more misery to her present state.

  • Vanessa Hudgens, Austin Butler: Did They Deface Rocks in Sedona?

Vanessa Hudgens, Austin Butler: Did They Deface Rocks in Sedona?

Vanessa Hudgens and her boyfriend Austin Butler are under investigation for allegedly defacing rocks in Sedona, Arizona. Is there any truth to these allegations?

The Grease: Live and High School Musical actress and her boyfriend spent Valentine’s Day weekend there, and it seems Vanessa Hudgens posted a photo on her Instagram account–one that has since been deleted–depicting their vacation. The trouble is, the picture featured a rock with their names carved into it, surrounded by a heart.

If the rock with that carving is located inside the Red Rock Ranger District of the Coconino National Forest, where authorities expect it may very well be, then Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler are in a pile of trouble.

It’s against federal law to damage “any natural feature or other property of the United States,” according to a statement issued by Brady Smith, a Coconino National Forest spokesman.

Hudgens and Butler–or at least their recent vacation agenda–is under investigation. If it is determined they defaced this rock–or rocks–they face a $5,000 fine and/or up to six months in jail.

“On Monday, Feb.15, we became aware–via media and public reports–of an Instagram posting by Vanessa Hudgens showing a scratching or carving of a heart with two names in it on a rock that allegedly is on the Red Rock Ranger District of the Coconino National Forest,” Brady Smith said in his statement.

“I can say that the issue of people carving their names and other things in rocks in the Sedona and surrounding area is always a challenge we face, and (we) try to inform people about its destructive nature.” he said. “We have found that when one person carves something, it encourages others to carve. Carving of any kind affects the natural beauty of the area.”

If you didn’t happen to catch Vanessa Hudgens’ Instagram post of her and Austin Butler’s names carved into Sedona rocks, this Fox reporter took a screen grab, and shared it via Twitter.

Do you think–if they are charged–that Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler meant any harm by defacing this rock or rocks in Sedona? Or were they simply two lovebirds on a getaway with nothing but romance on their minds?

  • Vanessa Hudgens Posts Emotional Message One Week After Dad’s Death

Vanessa Hudgens has been so busy starring in the live TV musical Grease: Live, that she hasn’t had enough time and space to mourn the recent loss of her father, Greg.

Last weekend, the 27-year-old actress announced that her father had passed away just a day before her performance on the much-talked about live TV production of the 1971 musical, Grease.

“I am so sad to say that last night my daddy, Greg passed away from stage IV cancer,” tweeted Hudgens on Sunday.

Despite the tragic event, Vanessa Hudgens still managed to deliver a great performance as Rizzo, which was highlighted by an emotion-filled rendition of “There Are Worse Things I Could Do.”

A source close to the actress told Us Weekly that she had an “incredibly hard” time performing in the highly-anticipated show because of her father’s passing, but that did not deter her from grabbing the opportunity to honor her father in front of a national audience.

A week has gone by since her father succumbed to cancer, and Hudgens is back on Twitter, thanking her fans and followers for their support kind words and support.

“I can’t believe @gogrease is OVER! Grand opening and grand closing. Thank you to everyone who watched & supported me last night.

She also posted a touching image on her Instagram page that said: “I wish heaven had visiting hours” accompanied by the caption, “If only…”

    If only…

“I hate cancer with every cell of my being.” she said.

  • “Sandra Dee” Song Earns Vanessa Hudgens Wealth of Praise Following “Grease: Live!” Performance

The “Sandra Dee” song sung by Vanessa Hudgens during Sunday night’s performance of Grease: Live! has won Hudgens accolades from all over the country.

“Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee” was performed in the 1978 film classic by actress Stockard Channing. Vanessa Hudgens performed the song very much the same way in her role as Rizzo.

The real Sandra Dee was an American actress whose claim to fame came in the 1950s, rendering her a teen queen of that era.

Vanessa Hudgens has received even more accolades from fans for going on with her performance in Grease: Live! following the passing of her father, Greg Hudgens, from cancer on Saturday–just 24 hours before she was scheduled to go on the air.

The actress said she was dedicating her performance to her late father–and she especially did him proud with her rendition of “Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee.”

Despite her devastating loss, Vanessa Hudgens stayed in character and even shared pre-performance excitement with her fans.

In addition to “Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee,” Vanessa Hudgens also belted out “There Are Worse Things I Could Do.”

Did you catch Fox’s live musical presentation of Grease: Live! on Sunday night?

Which was your favorite Vanessa Hudgens song? Do you think “Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee” or “There Are Worse Things I Could Do” best showcased her talent?

  • Keke Palmer Waited Entire Life for “Grease: Live!” Role, First Black Woman in Production

Keke Palmer played the role of Marty in the Sunday night performance of Grease: Live! on Fox, and she sang a song from the original Broadway production–one that didn’t make the original film in 1978. Called “Freddy, My Love,” fans thought a new song had been written for the live musical event, when in fact it wound up on the cutting room floor when the musical was adapted for the big screen.

As fans of both the original musical and 1978 film know, Keke Palmer is the first black woman to appear in Grease. Grease: Live! set a new tone with its far more inclusive cast.

Ahead of Sunday’s performance, Keke Palmer shared a message for her fans via social media, saying she waited her whole life for a role like this one.

“I feel as if I have waited my entire life for a moment like this. Tonight, I get the opportunity to introduce the Live production of Grease. The 2016 version…What does that mean? Too many things to express honestly. But one, that really spurs the heart…There has never been an African American in Grease and while I hate that that’s something to be pointed out, it is! My little brother and sister think differently growing up seeing me do something like this! They will not know it to be any other way in their 14yrs of living! That is REAL!” she wrote.

“When @4everBrandy played Cinderella, I was able to believe that I could play her on Broadway! And even if you are not an African American, you will be the first at whatever YOUR dreams are because they are yours. So whether you are an African American, or a female or whatever, if you can not relate to ANYONE in our show at face value. Relate to the fact that this is the first time anything like this has been done and it’s only being done because we all believed! That is the KEY?.. We are a group of people no more special than you that just believed in what we are doing. And tonight we get the gift and the blessing of sharing that belief with YOU ??????. THAT IS WHAT IT IS ABOUT! And I know sometimes when things get tough it’s hard to believe that your perspective can really change it, but it can! This is the proof of what happens when you believe. When YOU believe you change the world, you change the YOUniverse. So, (we) the kids, let’s take this and run with it and create even more out of it! #HistoricalTypeVibes #GreaseLive #LoveIsReal #FateIsReal #YourDreamsAreReal,” Keke Palmer concluded, captioning a photo of herself in her role as Marty.

A photo posted by Laurennnn Palmer (@kekepalmer) on

Did you catch Keke Palmer, Julianne Hough, Aaron Tveit, Vanessa Hudgens, and more in Grease: Live! on Sunday night? What did you think of the performance as compared to the 1978 film that starred Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta?

  • Vanessa Hudgens to Dedicate Her “Grease: Live!” Performance to Dad Who Passed Away Saturday

Vanessa Hudgens will go on with the show, despite the passing of her father on Saturday. Set to star Sunday night in Fox’s live musical event Grease: Live!, Hudgens will dedicate her performance to her late dad.

Taking to social media, Vanessa Hudgens shared word of her father’s death via Twitter.

Shortly after that post, she added another thought.

Vanessa Hudgens will play the role of Rizzo in Grease: Live! The role was played in the original film by Stockard Channing.

In addition to Vanessa Hudgens, Grease: Live! will star Julianne Hough as Sandy and Aaron Tveit as Danny, in the roles Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta made famous back in 1978.

It was likely be difficult for Vanessa Hudgens to set aside her grief to smile, dance, and sing her way through Grease: Live! She will no doubt rely on the love and support from her cast mates to get through the performance.

  • Julianne Hough Talks Trouble With “Grease: Live” Line Just Days Ahead of Premiere

Julianne Hough stars in the upcoming Grease: Live, set to air on Sunday evening on Fox. She plays the part of Sandy, the iconic role made famous by Olivia Newton-John in the original film.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly on Thursday, the Dancing With the Stars alum talked about the trouble she’s having with one line in the production–not because she can’t memorize it, but because it touches at the core of who Julianne Hough truly is.

“It’s a line that I should be able to deliver because it’s so me,” Hough said.

Julianne Hough delivers the line while the main cast is inside the diner.

Hough–as Sandy–says, “Who wants to watch a bunch of amateurs in a dance contest on live TV?”

The line references the school dance being filmed on national TV, as is shown later in the show. It was added solely for Julianne Hough because of her past with Dancing With the Stars.

“I mess it up every time,” she says.

“The diner scene is the death of me for sure,” she adds.

Early photos released of Julianne Hough in character as Sandy are reminiscent of Olivia Newton-John’s Grease era. Aaron Tveit plays Danny Zuko–the role John Travolta made famous in the film.

In addition to Julianne Hough and Aaron Tveit, Grease: Live stars Vanessa Hudgens, Carly Rae Jepsen, Keke Palmer, Carlos PenaVega, Ana Gasteyer, Eve Plumb, Mario Lopez, and more.

Will you be tuning in to see Grease: Live on TV? It airs January 31 on Fox at 7 p.m. ET.

Will Julianne Hough ace that tricky line for the live show?

  • Vanessa Hudgens Excited About Starring in “Grease: Live,” Initially Thought of Herself as More of a Sandy Than Rizzo

Vanessa Hudgens stars in the upcoming Fox musical event Grease: Live in the role as Betty Rizzo. She admitted on Wednesday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! that she long thought of herself as more of a Sandy than a Rizzo, but these days loves the role she is playing.

“I definitely watched [Grease] growing up. I feel like it always a part of my life,” she told Jimmy Kimmel, admitting to once longing to play Sandy.

These days, however, Vanessa Hudgens is thrilled to be playing Rizzo.

“I mean, she’s such an amazing part,” she said. “Now that I’m older, I’m like, oh my God. She’s tough. She’s got grit.”

Actors performing on live TV must have the kind of nerves those starring in Broadway productions experience. Vanessa Hudgens shared a story about a mishap during a recent rehearsal that definitely wouldn’t translate well had the show been on the air.

“We were doing ‘Sandra Dee’ and I stepped on a bench in front of the bed and it flipped and I just fell on my butt so hard,” she explained.

“People want you to mess up,” she added.

“It’s horrible,” she continued. “You think you’re dying, and someone wants you to mess up. They’re like, ‘Ha-ha, it’s so funny,’ and you’re like, ‘I hurt!’”

Vanessa Hudgens became animated when chatting with Jimmy Kimmel about actress Didi Conn. She played Frenchie in the original film production of Grease, and will appear on Grease: Live as Vi the waitress.

“She’s amazing. She’s playing Vi,” Hudgens said. “Vi is the waitress who works at the Frosty Palace who has a scene with Frenchie before ‘Beauty School Dropout,’ so it’s amazing, it’s like the generations staring at each other!”

She then perfectly imitated Conn’s sing-songy voice for Jimmy Kimmel.

It’s plain to see the excitement Vanessa Hudgens feels over starring in Grease: Live. Her years in High School Musical definitely helped prepare her for the role she is about to play.

Fans can see Vanessa Hudgens, Julianne Hough, Didi Conn, and more in Grease: Live on January 31 on Fox.

In addition to Trisha Yearwood, other notables in The Passion include Prince Royce, who plays the disciple Peter. Tyler Perry will serve as both event host and narrator.

This isn’t the only “live event” that will air on Fox in the coming weeks. The network will air Grease: Live, starring Julianne Moore, Aaron Tveit, and Vanessa Hudgens on January 31.

    The Passion
is set to air the week before Easter, on March 20. The modern times slant might make this live event one worth checking out.

Julianne Hough is starring in the upcoming TV special Grease: Live on Fox in January. She is playing the role of Sandra Dee, made famous in the film Grease by Olivia Newton-John.

This week the first official photos from the special were released, and Julianne Hough shared one of her, along with cast mates Vanessa Hudgens and Aaron Tveit, on her Instagram account.

“Here’s a first look at @aarontveit @vanessahudgens and I for #GreaseLive I can’t wait to play the role of Sandy, and be with this incredible cast! Don’t miss it: Sunday, January 31st on @FOXTV ! #youbettershapeup,” she captioned the photo.

One of Julianne Hough’s Dancing With the Stars friends is in Grease: Live, too. Carlos PenaVega, who was eliminated from the DWTS competition just ahead of the finals on Monday, will play the role of Kenickie.

Julianne Hough and Aaron Tveit will no doubt become the Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta of this generation with their roles in Grease: Live. It will be fun to see if the TV version creates a fraction of the hype that the film did back in 1978.

Fans can catch Julianne Hough, Aaron Tveit, and Vanessa Hudgens, as well as Carly-Rae Jepsen, Carlos PenaVega, and more in Grease: Live on the Fox network. It airs January 31 at 7 p.m.

Vanessa Hudgens, Julianne Hough and Aaron Tveit were captured in a first look for People magazine of their characters for the much-anticipated Grease: Live, which hits the small screen in January.

The special, which will air from 7 to 10 p.m. on each coast (tape-delayed in the Pacific time zone), features Dancing With the Stars judge Julianne Hough as the Sandy, which was portrayed in the 1978 film made famous by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. High School Musical alum Vanessa Hudgens stars Rizzo, and Broadway vet Tveit plays Danny Zuko.

Although not yet scene in any stills, DWTS final four competitor Carlos PenaVega will play Kenickie.

Danny and Sandy are pictured after she ditches the goody-two-shoes look, but a shot of Hough decked out in Sandy’s iconic cardigan/poodle skirt combo is just too adorable.

The live performance will also star Scream Queens actress Keke Palmer as Marty, singer Carly Rae Jepsen as Frenchy, You’re the Worst‘s Kether Donohue as Jan, and David Del Rio as Putzie.

“Grease is one of the movies that made me want to be an entertainer, and I have literally been waiting my whole life to play Sandy,” Hough said after it was announced that she was cast in the role of Sandy. “My siblings and I watched it and played it out over and over when we were kids. This is my dream role and performing it live on television will be one of the most thrilling opportunities I’ve had in my career so far.”

No stranger to musicals, Mario Lopez danced his way through A Chorus Line on Broadway in 2008 during the show’s revival. He played the role of Zach.
