  • Gabrielle Union: “Will You Marry Us?”

Dwayne Wade popped the question that Gabrielle Union had been waiting for during the holidays. However, for the first time, Union sat down with Good Morning America, and discussed the details from her very unique proposal.

“They wanted to catch me off guard [Wades’ children, Zaire, 11, and Zion, 6]. We were just spending what I thought to be a fun day with the kids, having a little quality time. We went to brunch, and we went to tour our house, which is being constructed. It’s a construction site—it’s nowhere close to being done,” Union recalled. “I should have known something was up when [Dwyane] was like, ‘’Are you gonna do your hair? Are you gonna put on makeup?’ I’m like, ‘To go to a construction site? No.’”

After touring the house, Wade’s sons ran downstairs and told Union that they wanted to do a presentation for her. “They were like, ‘We wanna do a presentation for you.’ They like to do skits and songs and stuff, so we turn around, and they’re like, ‘Okay, we’re ready!’ and I turn back around and all the boys were holding up signs that said, ‘Will you marry us?’”

Union said that the boys have been pressuring them to get married for two years, so she just brushed the proposal off as if it was just another request from the kids. Luckily for her, she was mistaken, and when she turned around she saw Wade down on one knee with a ring in his hand.

“They’ve been asking us to get married for two years and they talk about it all the time, so I’m thinking they’ve just made signs. I was like, ‘Well this is awkward.’ I turn to look at D like, ‘Ugh, they just made some signs,’ and he’s down on one knee with a ring and said, ‘Will you marry us?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, this is serious! This is a thing! Yes! Of course, yes!’”

On December 21, Union posted a picture of her 8.5 carat rock on Instagram with a caption that read: “Sooooo this happened… #Yessss.”

  • Robin Roberts Reveals Photo of Girlfriend

Anybody who caught “Good Morning America” this past Monday, could probably see that host Robin Roberts is becoming more comfortable talking about her girlfriend, Amber Laign, on air.

During a segment where each host was talking about their recent vacations, Roberts said she headed to Baton Rouge, La. for her nieces wedding, where she was accompanied by Laign. She then revealed a wedding photo that showed her family and her longtime mate.

“The highlight [of my vacation], my dear niece Judith, her wedding, and the family was altogether in Baton Rouge over the weekend,” she said. “And we have a family photo. There is Judith and her husband, Tony and my sister, Dorthy and Sally Ann, the mother of the bride, and next to me is my girlfriend Amber and my sister in law Cynthia, and my brother Butch.”

Roberts’ co-host, George Stephanopoulos, then asked the 53-year old if she was happy about the decision to speak about Laign publicly.

“I’m gonna tell you all this and you know because you had a front row seat of that tumultuous year I had. I have never been happier or healthier than I am right now,” answered Roberts, “And my year-end post was just full of gratitude and just telling everyone all that I’m grateful for, including my girlfriend Amber who really loved me through a difficult year.”

Stephanopoulos then said he hoped Roberts and Laign “felt all the love coming back,” both from the morning show team and from the general public. Roberts said that she did feel the love and then quickly asked Stephanopoulos about his vacation.

On Dec. 29, Roberts sent out a very heartwarming Facebook post, where she mentioned her girlfriend of 10 years for the first time. Although Laign’s name received just a brief mention, the public was immediately intrigued since the usually private newscaster chose to keep most of her private life out of the limelight.

  • Super Shred Diet Promises Big Results Fast

It’s the new year, and weight loss features prominently on many lists of New Year’s resolutions.

For 2014, there’s a new contender in the diet arena and it’s promising big results: the Super Shred Diet.

The diet is the brain child of Dr. Ian Smith.

In 2012, Smith published Shred: The Revolutionary Diet: 6 Weeks, 4 Inches, 2 Sizes. To achieve results, Shred combines a low glycemic index (GI) diet, meal spacing, and meal replacements.

Smith followed up with Super Shred: The Big Results Diet: 4 Weeks, 20 Pounds, Lose it Faster! The book released on December 31, 2013 – just in time for all the New Year’s resolution-makers.

What makes the Super Shred diet work? And why – when experts have preached against losing weight too quickly for years – does Smith now feel it’s acceptable health-wise to lose 20 pounds in four short weeks?

In a recent interview with Dave Plier on WGN Radio, Smith admits to being among those who insisted that it was unsafe and unhealthy to lose weight quickly. He was one of the many health and fitness experts who typically recommended losing only one to two pounds per week.

But he says that at some point, he realized that “it wasn’t that the weight loss itself was a problem, it’s that the methods used, they were a problem.”

That’s where Super Shred comes in. Over the summer, Smith worked with a large group of people who had previously used his original Shred program to lose weight, but had reached a plateau. He developed a program that enabled the group to lose, on average, 20 pounds in four weeks. That program became the basis for Smith’s new book.

Smith is careful to emphasize that Super Shred is meant to be a short term program for individuals who want to lose weigh quickly or have reached a weight loss plateau. He recommends following the original six-week Shred program after completing Super Shred. Unlike Super Shred, Shred is designed for long term use. Users complete a six-week cycle, then do another six weeks, but in a different order.

How does Super Shred work? First of all, Smith says it’s very simple because all meals are spelled out in the book.

The Super Shred diet puts an emphasis on meal spacing, snacking, meal replacement, and diet confusion.

Smith says meal spacing is one of the most important elements of the program because by regulating when you eat, you keep your metabolism “stoked,” causing your body to burn more calories. You’re also much less likely to overindulge at meal times.

Smith appeared on Good Morning America to discuss his new book, and released an excerpt on their blog. He shared the first full week of the diet, a shopping list, and a few recipes.

  • Robin Roberts Publicly Thanks Her Girlfriend

Since 2012, Robin Roberts had battled a life-threatening disease called myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). This came five years after she was diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer, for which she underwent surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments.

Myelodysplastic syndrome, formerly known as preleukemia, is a disease of the bone marrow. Roberts received a transplant in late 2012 and was able to return to her job as anchor of ABC’s Good Morning America in early 2013.

According to CBS News, Sunday, December 29 marked the anniversary of her 100-day milestone following her transplant. .

In celebration, Roberts posted a picture of she and her dog, KJ, to her Facebook page, grateful for all who have helped her and encouraging others to be grateful for what they have in their lives.

One of those Roberts thanked on the social media outlet was her girlfriend, Amber Laign.

“I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together,” she wrote.

Laign is a massage therapist in the San Francisco Bay area. The two have been together for 10 years, although this is the first time Roberts has acknowledged their same-sex relationship publicly. Friends and co-workers have been aware the couple for years.

In May 2014, Roberts plans to write a memoir about being the host of GMA and her battle with MDS. In 2007, Roberts had her first book published: “From the Heart: Seven Rules to Live By.”

“Reading this comforts me and I hope the same for you,” she continued on her Facebook post. “‘If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present.’ At this moment I am at peace and filled with joy and gratitude.”

  • Ginger Zee Is Taking Over The Weather On GMA

Long-time Good Morning America weather anchor, Sam Champion, resigned from ABC on Wednesday to take a managing editor job at The Weather Channel. It was a sad goodbye since Champion is one of the main reasons that GMA has been the top-rated morning show for so many years.

Champion and his co-anchors, Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Josh Elliott and Lara Spencer said a tearful goodbye as Champion made his final weather broadcast on Wednesday. “I promise there’s happy on the inside but the tears,” Elliott said. “I’m going to miss you and you are the best live broadcaster I’ve ever worked with. Thank you for giving the gift to us and to everybody at home every day.”

Although Champion will miss his GMA family, he says that taking the new job is just something that he has to do. “I think it’s something that people will go through in their life when you want to stay, doing something you want to, and there’s an opportunity that says you gotta take it,” Champion said. “I’m not going to leave you guys. I’m not going to leave you.”

Champion ended his final GMA weather report with the phrase that he has said more than 7,000 times before. “That’s the weather around the nation, ladies and gentleman,” he said.

Ginger Zee, 32, has been hired as his replacement and hopes that she can fill Champion’s shoes. Zee already has experience with the morning show since she has been Champion’s fill-in for the past two years, and has also been the weather anchor for the weekends. Zee talked about her excitement for her new position with reporters, saying that she never thought she would land this type of position at such a young age.

“You know, some people will work their entire lives and at some point say maybe ‘that’s not the goal for me.’ I have just been so fortunate this whole way, and not to say that I haven’t worked hard,” she said. “There were so many times where I was in Flint, Michigan and I was seriously eating a bean burrito, just one every day because it was 79 cents and that’s all I could afford.”

  • Amy Robach Plans Her Return To Television

Amy Robach Plans Her Return To Television

Amy Robach was diagnosed with cancer recently, and was forced to leave her position as a host of Good Morning America.

It seems that her cancer has even spread since her fans last had an update, but the prognosis was good, and she is doing everything that she can in order to stay positive.

The Good Morning America talk show host was diagnosed with cancer, after receiving an on-air mammogram.

It was the first ever mammogram that had been done on the air, and the 40-year-old talk Amy Robach had no idea just how helpful it would be to her.

The procedure was intended to raise awareness about the disease, with the hope that viewers would want to go out and get tasted as well.

She is very lucky to be able to have caught it when she did, and the mammogram that she did simply as a television event may have saved her life. She was diagnosed with breast cancer, and undergoing a bilateral mastectomy, she plans to make a speedy return to the air on December 2nd.

Cancer survivor Robin Roberts was the one who convinced Robach to do the mammogram because it would help save lives, but she had no idea that it would be her own. She is happy about her decision to get the bilateral mastectomy, and said that it turned out to be the right course of action, because her doctor discovered a second tumor during the process.

While this is not a good sign, she has said that the prognosis is good, and she is certainly glad that it was discovered when it was. Amy Robach’s cancer has spread to her sentinel lymph node, causing her to need more treatments, however she will not let that have an effect on her work.

The ABC News talk show host has certainly been through a lot, but as she is doing everything to look at things in a positive light, she said “Physically and emotionally I have been through the ringer, but I am emerging on the other side so much stronger. I have a greater appreciation for life, for health and for how such simple acts of kindness can be so incredibly powerful.”

Amy Robach is excited to be able to get back to work, and thanks all of her fans and friends for the love and support that she has received since finding out about her cancer.

  • Amy Robach Diagnosed With Cancer

Throughout the month of October, everyone celebrates and recognizes the fighters and survivors of breast cancer. To kick off breast cancer awareness month, “Good Morning America” had their correspondent, Amy Robach, undergo a mammogram on live television. She agreed to participate after Robin Roberts, a breast cancer survivor and correspondent, persuaded Robach that if one person is helped by early detection, that it is worth it.

“I was a little reluctant at first,” Robach told Roberts. “I’m 40, I’m the age and I’ve been putting it off.” So, on October 1, Robach completed the mammogram, which she said “hurt a lot less than she thought”, and assumed that was it. Little did she know she was about to get the news that would change her life forever.

During a segment that appeared on “GMA” Monday morning, Robach gave the announcement that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. “The diagnosis that’s still hard for me to say out loud. I have breast cancer,” Robach said. “I know that I have a fight ahead of me. But I also know that I have a lot worth fighting for.”

In the segment, Robach recalled the words of her colleague. “If I got the mammogram on air and it saved one life, then it’s all worth it. It never occurred to me that that life would be mine.”

    http://youtu.be/iOSvVjLjL14

During an interview after the segment, Robach talked to Roberts and another colleague. “It’s absolutely surreal to be sitting here. But as scary as it all is, I’m so so lucky — because you guys pushed me to that mammogram — thank god you did, I wasn’t in any rush to have that done any time soon.” Robach also thanks Roberts for “saving her life” to which Roberts responded, “You saved your life, Amy.”

Although she has received the most devastating news a person can hear, she will not be facing the battle alone. Along with her family, her colleagues are there to support her throughout her entire fight.

  • Amy Robach Diagnosed With Breast Cancer After On-Air Mammogram

Amy Robach Diagnosed With Breast Cancer After On-Air Mammogram

Amy Robach has just revealed that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer, after an on-air screening. Robach is a television journalist and correspondent for ABC news. The TV personality got the test done on her own show, as a part of the October Pink initiative, which encourages viewers to get checked.

At the time, she had no idea how important the mammogram that she participated in would be for her. She is a correspondent on ABC’s popular program, Good Morning America. It was the first ever on-air mammogram, and she was hoping to spread awareness and help out others, not knowing that it may be the thing that would save her own life.

After the initial mammogram that Amy Robach received on the show, the doctors had followed up with more tests, and last week revealed to her that she has breast cancer. Robach is certainly thankful that the test was done that day, and said “I’m so grateful that I got the mammogram that day. Robin’s words still echo inside of me ‘If I got the mammogram on-air and saved one life then it’s all worth it’ she had said. It never occurred to me that that life would be mine.”

She does not yet know how far along the cancer is, but it has been said that she will have a double mastectomy. The news also comes as a great shock to her, since there is no history of the disease in her family.

Amy Robach, the 40-year-old television personality, is married to Andrew Shue, who acted in Melrose Place, and also has two daughters and three stepsons. As can be expected, telling her kids has been one of the hardest things for her.

After this Thursday, when she is scheduled to receive a bilateral mastectomy followed by reconstructive surgery, Robach will know even more about her condition. She has been preparing herself, and while it is a scary thing for anyone to face, she is being brave when saying “Only then will I know more about what that fight will fully entail, but I am mentally and physically as prepared as anyone can be in this situation.

Amy Robach is incredibly thankful for everyone who urged her to get the mammogram done, and in the end, the mammogram that she received in front a national audience, may have saved her life.

  • Britney Spears Claims Vegas Residency, Announces Tour

It has been quite a few years since pop icon Britney Spears has released any new hits; however, that does not mean she has taken herself out of the media spotlight. Since Spears’ last album Femme Fatale in 2011, she has kept herself in the public eye by joining the judging panel on the well-known reality/talent show The X Factor. Since her resignation from The X Factor earlier this year, Spears decided to continue focusing on her music.

This morning (Tuesday, September 17th, 2013), Britney Spears made various announcements during her interview on ABC’s Good Morning America. Spears’ first announcement was that she will be taking a two-year residency at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, NV. “I love Vegas,” Spears exclaimed, “The energy here is really, really good.”

Along with her residency announcement, Spears also discussed her upcoming tour “Britney: Piece of Me,” which will start December 27th. With this new tour, Spears states that it will include her greatest hits, along with new material to “keep it fresh.” During her interview, she confirmed that the tour will be an “action-packed performance hybrid, where club meets theatre.” Spears elaborated that she wants her concert environment to be like this so that the fans are “in the show with her.”

Spears also tweeted her announcement of her residency and tour on her Twitter account:

Good Morning America also asked for Spears’ reaction on the following topics:

    • If you could pick your favorite hit, what would it be? Spears’ answer to this question was “Toxic,” a hit from In The Zone (2003).
    • Her reaction to Miley Cyrus’ performance at the recent MTV Video Music Awards – Spears responded that “Anytime you do a performance that is ‘that memorable,’ you are going to have criticism.” Spears also stated that “She [Miley]’s being herself.”

Concluding her interview with Good Morning America, Spears discussed her work on her latest and eighth studio album, along with the content behind her songs, including her recent breakup with Jason Trawick.

  • Carrie Underwood: Broadcasts, Musicals, & CMA Awards

Carrie Underwood has been a busy woman lately! With co-hosting “Good Morning America”, her upcoming move to New York for her starring role in “The Sound of Music”, and the announcement that she will be co-hosting the CMA Awards again this year, it seems as though we will be seeing a lot of the country music super-star in the upcoming months.

Many may not know this about the former American Idol, but Carrie graduated from college with a degree in communications and journalism from Northeastern State University in Oklahoma. She tested the waters at becoming a news anchor by co-hosting Good Morning America. Carrie delivered the “Pop News” section of the show, and was flawless! Is Carrie thinking of making a career change? Check out the video to see for yourself.

    http://youtu.be/Gw3QUY1plS4

Some other interesting “Carrie” news: Carrie has been cast for the role as Maria von Trapp in “The Sound of Music”. Julie Andrews first made this role famous in the original movie from 1965, and Carrie will be making the move to the “Big Apple” to try and fill Andrew’s shoes. The musical will be presented live on NBC December 5, 2013, for all to see.

Speaking for everyone at NBC, we couldn’t be happier to have the gifted Carrie Underwood take up the mantle of the great Maria von Trapp. She was an iconic woman who will now be played by an iconic artist.
    NBC’s chairman Bob Greenblatt

Last but not least…Carrie has agreed to co-host, alongside Brad Paisley, the CMA awards again this year, making it the sixth consecutive year for the duo. The President of the CMA Board of Directors made a statement saying, “Carrie and Brad are the consummate hosts. They have the respect of our industry, artistic credibility, critical acclaim, and a quick-witted, genuine rapport that makes them popular with our audience and the viewers at home. We are delighted to have them back as hosts for the sixth year.”

  • “Black People for Paula” Group Plans Times Square Rally

A Paula Deen fan club called “Black People for Paula” is planning a rally in Times Square.

According to the group’s website, the (as yet unnamed) founder of Black People for Paula and “over 100 of [his or her] friends” will gather outside the windows of the Good Morning America set during the show’s filming on August 16. They plan to wear pink t-shirts that feature the BPP logo and carry a large banner that says “We Forgive You Paula.”

According to the group’s founder, “The word Paula used was horrible. She has admitted that what she said was wrong and hurtful. She gave an extremely heartfelt apology and I forgive her, my family forgives her and the African American community forgives her.” The group cites Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson as prominent African American leaders who have voiced some measure of forgiveness for Deen’s past use of the “N” word.

However, NewsOne, a news source that focuses on African American issues, isn’t sold on the group. Contributing Editor Kirsten West Savali says that the rally is a plot “twist straight from the Plantation Chronicles” and that the group is motivated by a need for some black Americans to “be perceived as non-threatening and friendly to White people.” Savali especially takes issue with BPP’s statement that the “African American community forgives” Deen. “Clearly,” she writes, “those sweet potatoes and fried chicken drive people insane, because the entirety of the Black community most certainly does not forgive Paula Deen.”

In addition to the hostile work environment central to Deen’s current legal imbroglio, Savali notes that Deen cracked a racially-tinged joke about President Obama in the wake of the BP oil spill (she apparently said that he ought to be able to fix the situation by “n&%@#*-rigging” it) and that she once “dreamt of having Black men in shorts and bow ties playing step’n fetchit at an Antebellum style wedding reception.”

For anyone who agrees with the group, t-shirts are for sale on its website.

  • Robin Roberts: ESPN to Award Her an ESPY For Courage

ESPN this week announced that the 2013 Arthur Ashe Courage award will go to news anchor Robin Roberts.

Roberts, one of the hosts of ABC’s Good Morning America, has captivated morning show audiences this past year with her battle against myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a blood disease disorder of bone marrow stem cells. Before she was the darling of morning network TV, though, she was a sportscaster for over a decade.

Roberts began working for ESPN in 1990 as one of the first black female sports journalists in the business. She earned three Emmy Awards for her work at ESPN, and now the network will be honoring her for her achievements.

The 2013 Arthur Ashe Courage award will be given to Roberts during this year’s ESPY awards, which air on July 17. Past recipients of the award have included Muhammad Ali and Dean Smith.

“Robin brings an amazing amount of energy, compassion and determination to everything she does,” said John Skipper, president of ESPN. “Those qualities made her an incredible asset during her time here at ESPN, and they have served her well as she battled the terrible health challenges that she’s had to face.”

  • NBC: Robin Roberts Tweet From Ann Curry Prevented

The drama surrounding the Today Show and Ann Curry‘s unceremonious departure from the daytime TV show simply will not die down.

Earlier this week, New York Magazine published a long expose of the situation at the Today Show leading up to Curry’s firing and the aftermath. While Matt Lauer was courting ABC as a contract negotiation technique, Curry was fighting for her anchor position.

After Curry’s tearful goodbye, the Today Show tanked in the ratings. The show was overtaken by Good Morning America, which was enthralling viewers with coverage of anchor Robin Robert’s battle with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS).

It seems that NBC executives worried about the impact Curry could have on daytime TV ratings even weeks after she left the show. The New York magazine report states that when Roberts left Good Morning America, Curry wanted to tweet her a “note of sympathy.” The idea was shot down by NBC.

It’s unfortunate that Curry felt she needed to clear a heartfelt tweet with the public relations department at NBC. However, the incident is a rare look inside the carefully controlled battleground that TV networks call morning news programs.

  • Robin Roberts Will Return to Good Morning America on February 20

Late last year, Robin Roberts stepped down from her job anchoring Good Morning America to undergo a bone marrow transplant. Roberts had been diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a blood disease disorder of bone marrow stem cells.

Since that time, viewers and fans have worried over Roberts’ health and whether she will be able to return to job on the ABC morning news program. Today on the show, Roberts’ colleague and co-worker George Stephanopoulos announced that Roberts will indeed return to her anchor chair on February 20.

On her ABC News Blog, Roberts herself issued a thank you to friends and family. From the blog post:

I’m excited to re-join my wonderful ‘GMA’ family. I’m also looking forward to thanking YOU … for your many prayers and well wishes. Your compassion has been an enormous source of comfort to me and my family.

I’m heading to the beach for the next week to reflect and give thanks for my many blessings.

    Light Love Power Presence…XO

  • Tom Hanks Totally Said F**k On GMA This Morning

Some say “curse words” are silly things to be afraid of, and as the years go by, it gets easier and easier for television and radio shows to use words once considered too taboo to be on-air. But the F-bomb is still a no-no, so when someone drops it on live t.v., it contains a certain amount of glee for us viewers.

When it’s Tom Hanks, the beloved actor who won all our hearts as Forrest Gump, it’s even better.

Hanks–who actually said “f**king” while doing an impression of his character from “Cloud Atlas”–later apologized via Twitter and said jokingly that he blamed the GMA staff.

“I slipped into a brand of acting. I have never done that before! I want to apologize to the kids of America who are watching right now. And let me say, next time I’m on the show there’ll be seven-second delay! Never give me a handheld mic,” he added. “I blame the staff! I blame the staff!”

  • Robin Roberts Returns To GMA Rested And Radiant

Robin Roberts announced she was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome back in June, but assured fans that she was well enough to continue her anchor duties on “Good Morning America”. However, the bone-marrow disease left her feeling exhausted and led to her taking a brief medical leave, which left friends and fans concerned.

“Well a full disclosure here, I’m not feeling too well,” Roberts, 51, said. “In fact, I’m going to leave, and let you all do the rest of the program on your own. I’m going to take a little time off, just to get some vacay. I’ll see you in a couple of weeks.”

She decided to take a trip to Italy, where she toured the Vatican and celebrated a friend’s birthday. She was even allowed to have her chemotherapy catheter removed for the trip.

“All I’m thinking about now is Italy. As a going away present my doctor surprised me and removed my PICC line today from my arm…sweet freedom!” she wrote on the show’s Facebook page. “Thank you again for the prayers and well wishes…means more to me than you could possibly ever know.”

Roberts returned to the show yesterday, however, and said she’s rested and ready for whatever life–and her job–might throw her way.

“My needle was past ‘E’ when I left here a couple of weeks ago, but I’ve got a full tank, so watch out,” Roberts said. “I haven’t taken this much time off in quite some time.”

  • Robin Roberts On Medical Leave Sooner Than Expected

Robin Roberts, who has been a much-loved anchor on Good Morning America for a while now, announced in June that she is suffering from myelodysplastic syndrome or MDS, and will need to undergo a bone marrow transplant. Luckily, her sister is an excellent match and will be able to donate the healthy tissue Roberts needs, but until then, she says she needs a break.

Although she wasn’t intending to take a leave from the show until the end of August or perhaps the beginning of September, Roberts says she’s not feeling well and wants to go ahead and rest.

“Well a full disclosure here, I’m not feeling too well,” Roberts, 51, announced on Tuesday. “In fact, I’m going to leave, and let you all do the rest of the program on your own. I’m going to take a little time off, just to get some vacay. I’ll see you in a couple of weeks.”

Roberts is a breast cancer survivor, and unfortunately even those who beat the disease can suffer from others which are triggered by the treatments used, such as chemotherapy. But Roberts is quick to point out that her doctors say she has an excellent chance at beating the MDS because she is young and in otherwise good health.

  • Robin Roberts Now Battling Bone Marrow Disease

Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts has fought–and won–the battle against breast cancer, and now she’s having to face a much more painful foe: MDA, or myelodysplastic syndrome.

She announced the news today via a letter to her fans and says she is confident she will beat it, because doctors assure her she is young and fit enough to battle through it. She’s also fortunate enough to have a sister who is an excellent match for bone marrow, and she will undergo a transplant later this year. For now, she’ll start chemotherapy.

Roberts writes, “Today, I will start what is known as pre-treatment -– chemotherapy in advance of a bone marrow transplant later this year. Bone marrow donors are scarce and particularly for African-American women. I am very fortunate to have a sister who is an excellent match, and this greatly improves my chances for a cure. As you know from my recent interview with Mark Zuckerberg, organ donation is vitally important. Many people don’t realize they can be bone marrow donors. I encourage everyone to sign up on a donor registry like bethematch.org.”

The treatment for cancer often comes with high risks, such as a heightened probability to develop other diseases. Roberts will have a long and painful road to recovery ahead of her, but insists she will still anchor GMA throughout the process.

  • Mark Zuckerberg on Good Morning America Tomorrow

Good Morning America announced today that Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, will sit down with host Robin Robins to discuss ideas at the networking site that could help save lives. What exactly he’s going on the show to discuss is not yet known.

As many of you already know, Facebook has a Family Safety Center used for educating children, teachers, and parents about precautions on Facebook, and has even recently teamed-up with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to provide counseling and services to the community.

With the upcoming Facebook IPO and the recent Instagram acquisition, it could be a good time for Zuckerberg to address some changes that are coming up at the site as well. Good Morning America runs from 7am to 9 am on ABC tomorrow, but they don’t specify when exactly the interview will be.

Tune in tomorrow to find out what Zuckerberg is up to. In the meantime checkout their Facebook post and preview video on what’s coming up with the Zuckerberg interview:

  • Katie Couric’s Temporary Return to Morning News May End Today’s Reign

Katie Couric will return to “Good Morning America” for one week while host Robin Roberts is on vacation. Couric also works as a Special Correspondent for ABC News, contributing to ABC World News, Nightline, 20/20, Good Morning America, This Week and primetime news specials. The single mom has anchored the CBS Evening News, reported for 60 Minutes, hosted Today and reported for Dateline NBC.

Her ratings on CBS Evening News have not been stellar but The New York Times is predicting that her temporary stint on G.M.A. might put an end to Today’s winning streak:

“G.M.A.” finished last week only 137,000 viewers behind “Today,” the closest it has been in nearly five years. The ABC show also won two of the five mornings last week, also for the first time since October 2007. “G.M.A.” has not gotten any nearer to “Today” since that week.”

This is so important because of Today’s long leading history: “ABC executives have been nearly obsessed with breaking the longest-winning streak in television history, the 16-year-plus run that “Today” has enjoyed. “Good Morning America” has not beaten the NBC morning show since the first Clinton administration — December 1995.”

Twitters users are interested to see how this will shake out:

Like all good journalists, Katie Couric shared some tips on how to interview in the following YouTube video:

She advises interviewers to be a gracious host, calibrate their tone, ask open-ended questions, predict follow–up questions, be an active listener, assess their audience, and conduct some background research on the person they will be interviewing.

  • Dancing With The Stars Season 14 Cast Announced, Twitter Reacts

I cannot believe that we are now up to Season 14 of Dancing With the Stars, ABC’s most-watched reality show. I remember the first season of Dancing With the Stars in 2005, where the big talk of the show was the battle between Kelly Monaco and John O’Hurley. The show has definitely flourished since then, bringing a variety of talent from a pool of multidisciplinary genres to the screen. That is one of the best aspects that Dancing With the Stars brings, showing the public that anyone can be a star on the dance floor and not just the performers who have been dancing since birth.

This morning on ABC’s Good Morning America, Dancing With the Stars hosts Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke-Charvet announced the cast of this year’s Season 14 star dancers. A great feature about this upcoming season’s lineup is that most of them are well-known by the public. Many seasons prior to Season 14 had casts where the public would question “Who is that?” To see this morning’s (February 28th) Good Morning America announcement, please view the YouTube video provided below.

The cast and pros lineup for Season 14 are as follows:

    Celebrity: Pro / Partner:
    Donald Driver Peta Murgatroyd
    Gavin DeGraw Karina Smirnoff
    Gladys Knight Tristan MacManus
    Jack Wagner Anna Trebunskaya
    Jaleel White Kym Johnson
    Katherine Jenkins Mark Ballas
    Maria Menounos Derek Hough
    Martina Navratilova Tony Dovolani
    Melissa Gilbert Maksim Chmerkovskiy
    Roshon Fegan Chelsie Hightower
    Sherri Shepherd Val Chmerkovskiy
    William Levy Cheryl Burke

The Twitter community has been really active responding to the cast announcement. Many are very surprised of who has been selected for this upcoming season’s cast, and I have provided various reactions from Twitter below.

Martina Navratilova is on the #DWTS lineup. Only thing better would be Chris Evert in the same season. #Rematch 2 hours ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto
