Hummer EV SUV Will Be Unveiled During NCAA Final Four

GM is planning to unveil its Hummer EV SUV during the NCAA Final Four, taking its Hummer reboot to the next level.

The Hummer was one of the brands GM retired in the midst of the company’s bankruptcy. The brand had achieved a degree of popularity, but ultimately came to represent the worst, unsustainable and environmentally unfriendly examples of the big SUVs that helped drive the American auto industry to the brink.

GM is in the process of reinventing the Hummer as an all-electric platform, which will help it avoid the shortcomings of its past and use its bulk to its advantage — the bigger the vehicle, the more batteries it can hold. Rather than being its own separate brand, the Humber will fall under GMC’s line.

The company is now planning to unveil the Hummer EV SUV during the NCAA Final Four, after previously unveiling the GMC Hummer EV “supertruck” during the Super Bowl.”

On April 3, 2021, tune into gmc.com at 5 p.m. EDT or the NCAA Final Four as GMC reveals the next chapter in its story – the GMC HUMMER EV SUV. Reservations will open for customers on that same date.

  • GM Bringing Back The Hummer—As An Electric Vehicle

GM Bringing Back The Hummer—As An Electric Vehicle

Few SUV designs are more recognizable as GM’s Hummer. Following its retirement in 2010, in the midst of GM’s bankruptcy, the company is bringing the iconic SUV back as an electric vehicle.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the Hummer will not be its own brand as it was previously. Instead, it will be another model under the GMC line. GMC has increasingly become GM’s premium line and should be a good fit for the redesigned Hummer.

Moving the vehicle to an electric platform should also help Hummer avoid the criticism it faced the first time around. Weighing in at over 6,000 pounds and getting a mere 10 miles-per-gallon, the Hummer was a favorite target of environmentalists. The size of the vehicle will also give it plenty of space for batteries.

WSJ reports that GM has already enlisted Lebron James to help promote the new vehicle, including during a Super Bowl commercial next month. The combination of rugged looks, off-road performance and electric economy will likely prove to be a winning combo for the Detroit automaker.

Twitter Ads Move to Detroit: GM, Ford, & Chrysler Get New Neighbors

The Contra Costa Times reports that Twitter is setting up a new advertising office in Detroit. There’s no doubt as to the reason for the addition; to get close to the advertising budgets of the big 3 auto makers. Promoted tweets are the next big thing and Ford, Chevy, and Chrysler can only benefit from the coverage.

Social network marketing is vital to the success of the big 3, if you remember, Ford was one of the first to jump on Facebook’s high-dollar log-off ads. The city of Detroit has a less than booming economy, but there’s still gold there from the automakers.

The addition of Twitter comes at a time when the city has just decided to raise corporate income taxes. In fact, the city council approved a measure to double the tax from 1% to 2 in order to generate more revenue.

Still, it’s good news for a city who has been facing huge job loss, rising crime rates, and bankruptcy for decades. Profits for the big 3 have also been on the rise in recent years. Perhaps a presence from Twitter will also spur the local economy. You can read more about the addition of Twitter in Detroit by following the Contra Costa Times link.
