  • Ginger Zee Continues Maternity Leave, “GMA” Alum Sam Champion To Help Out

Ginger Zee is continuing her maternity leave this week with her new baby boy, Adrian, who was born on December 20th.

However, Ginger Zee‘s position on GMA will not be neglected.

GMA veteran Sam Champion, who last signed off in 2013, is taking her place this week.

Ginger Zee left Champion with some advice and some to-do’s for when he takes over.

When Ginger Zee called in on Monday’s show, she said of Champion, “He has to take full credit for the dip in the jet stream, all the cold air coming in right now.”

She added, “Second, I have a tally of Lara’s puns [in ‘Pop News’], so if you can just keep that going. And finally, just take care of the audience because I am going to miss them probably just as much as anyone else.”

Sam Champion seemed happy to “take care of the audience” while Ginger Zee stays home with her baby.

He said, “[The audience] is the most fun part of the entire show, to get outside and spend some time with the people who come to see us.”

He then said, “I think I have to buy a winter coat.”

Ginger Zee is glad for the break provided by Sam Champion and others like ABC News Senior Meteorologist Rob Marciano, who will also fill in for her.

In a hilarious New Year tweet, Ginger Zee showed a funny and very truthful glimpse into the life of a new parent.

What do you think of Ginger Zee’s temporary replacement, Sam Champion?

  • Neil Young Calls for Starbucks Boycott Over GMO Lawsuit

Neil Young Calls for Starbucks Boycott Over GMO Lawsuit

Neil Young is protesting Starbucks. And when Neil Young protests something, people notice — for better or for worse.

When the National Guard rolled in to Kent State back in the 60s and left four students dead in their wake, the country was shocked. Crosby, Still, Nash, and Young had just completed an album and it was in pressings. But something had to be said. Neil Young was the man to bang that song out. The band recorded it hastily, put it on 45s, and got it to radio stations ahead of their album.

    “Ten soldiers and Nixon’s comin’
    We’re finally on our own
This summer I hear the drummin’
    Four dead in Ohio”

    (from “Ohio” by CSNY)

Neil Young, who had already done “For What It’s Worth,” a classic Vietnam protest song with Buffalo Springfield, has a hallowed place in protest music.

Young is Canadian by birth, but now lives in San Mateo, California, so some Americans take issue with him commenting on their … issues. Ronnie Van Zant of Lynyrd Skynyrd was probably the biggest. When Neil Young released tracks like “Alabama” and “Southern Man”, both of which were aimed at the intolerance and racism in the American South, Van Zant told Young to stick it.

“I hear Mr. Young sing about her
I heard ol’ Neil put her down
I hope Neil Young will remember
A Southern Man don’t need him around, anyhow”

    (from “Sweet Home Alabama”)

Now Neil Young is taking on something a little closer to Canada: Starbucks.

“I used to line up and get my latte everyday,” Young wrote on his website, “but yesterday was my last one.”

What has miffed Young at Starbucks? Starbucks is part of the Grocery Manufacturers Association, which is joining with Monsanto to sue the state of Vermont to prevent a requirement for genetically-modified ingredients in food to be identified on the label.

    Young’s statement continued.

“Tell Starbucks to withdraw support for the lawsuit — we have a right to know what we put in our mouths. Starbucks doesn’t think you have the right to know what’s in your coffee. So it’s teamed up with Monsanto to sue the small U.S. state of Vermont to stop you from finding out.

Hiding behind the shadowy “Grocery Manufacturers Association,” Starbucks is supporting a lawsuit that’s aiming to block a landmark law that requires genetically-modified ingredients be labeled. Amazingly, it claims that the law is an assault on corporations’ right to free speech.

Monsanto might not care what we think — but as a public-facing company, Starbucks does. If we can generate enough attention, we can push Starbucks to withdraw its support for the lawsuit, and then pressure other companies to do the same.”

Young believes that bringing a company like Starbucks to heel can eventually wear down the support for stopping the GMO law in Vermont. And if that happens, the possibility that such a labeling revolution could catch on is well worth losing lattes.

“There’s much more at stake here than just whether GMO foods will be labeled in a single U.S. state. Vermont is the very first state in the U.S. to require labeling. Dozens of other states have said that they will follow this path — in order to encourage this, we need to ensure that Vermont’s law stands strong.”

The Grocery Manufacturers Association is clear about their support of GMOs.

“The use of genetically modified (GM) ingredients is not only safe for people and our planet, but also has a number of important benefits… GM technology adds desirable traits from nature, without introducing anything unnatural or using chemicals, so that food is more plentiful.”

The group insists that people already eat lots of genetically-modified foods every day, and that these are proven to be safe by “the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, the American Medical Association, the World Health Organization, Health Canada, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the National Academy of Sciences.”

But other groups insist that there are many health risks to GMOs that government agencies like the ones the GMA listed ignore. They say that these GMO foods may not cause acute poisoning, which would bring them under suspicion from the FDA and other agencies, but that they cause systemic damage over time, making people sick and weak.

People like Neil Young realize that they cannot stop GMOs from being used in food. They just want them to be required to be named on the label so consumers can make their own choices about what they put in their bodies.

But the GMA and Starbucks don’t want that. So Neil Young is calling on everyone to put a dent in Starbucks’ bottom line to make then see the error of their ways.

Now let’s see if any Starbucks swilling Southerners want to step up and tell Young to step off.

  • Robin Roberts Launches Rock’n Robin Productions

Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts, 53, announced the launch of her new production company on Wednesday.

According to an ABC News press release, Rock’n Robin Productions will include news-driven documentaries, a digital series for espnW, two reality show pilots and a Thanksgiving special for ABC. And no, Roberts will not be leaving GMA but will continue to co-anchor the morning show while she oversees her new company.

“I’m blessed to be able to do even more of what I love to do and now reach an even broader audience with programming that will inspire, inform and entertain people,” said Roberts. “I’m very excited to get involved in the business and development side of production, and will spend a lot of time working with the team on the creative. I’m so grateful to my ABC and GMA family for supporting the launch of the company.”

On Wednesday, Rock’n Robin Production went live with its rocknrobin.tv website, which will feature behind the scenes video and photos from the various projects in the making. It will also feature a blog, N’Courage, which will feature individuals who overcome overwhelming odds and inspire others to overcome challenges.

ABC News Executive John R. Green was named Executive Vice President of Programming and Development and will run the day to day operations of the new production company. Like Roberts, Green will maintain his position at ABC News as Executive Producer of Special Programming.

“We have known each other for 15 years and worked on dozens of primetime specials together. I’m thrilled to be partnering with him once again,” Roberts said in Wednesday’s announcement.

“Robin is an extraordinarily gifted journalist. I am honored to work with her on this new adventure,” said Green. “The programming we create will, in many ways, reflect who Robin is: smart, inspiring, and fun. Robin’s enthusiasm is infectious. Working with her is a true labor of love.”

Wasting little time, Roberts’ first production, In the Game With Robin Roberts, will premiere on espnW today. Roberts will interview Michael Sam, the first openly gay player to be drafted by an NFL team.

  • Robin Roberts: ‘GMA’ Cohost to Christen New Blimp

Robin Roberts–cohost of Good Morning America–will join a line of notable women in August when she christens the new Goodyear blimp. Several accomplished women before her have also been bestowed with the honor–Sally Ride and Amelia Earhart among them. Roberts has a family legacy with the Goodyear company as well as with the city of Akron, Ohio, where the Goodyear headquarters is located.

“We are honored and delighted to have Robin continue our proud tradition of christening the Goodyear blimp,” said Richard J. Kramer, chairman and chief executive officer. “In addition to being a supremely talented broadcaster, Robin has a family legacy with Goodyear and Akron. The combination of her personal connection to our city and company, her distinguished professional achievements and charitable works makes Robin an ideal choice to christen our newest icon.”

“This is incredibly meaningful to my family,” Robin said. “My great grandfather moved his family from down south to Akron in 1918 to work for Goodyear. Never could he have imagined that one day one of his descendants would be asked to christen the blimp. I’m very honored.”

Robin Roberts’ history in Akron and Goodyear doesn’t stop there either. In addition to her great grandfather, Roberts’ grandfather, William Tolliver, worked at Goodyear, too. Her late mother, Lucimarian Roberts, was born in Akron and she graduated from East High School–which is located just a few blocks from the Goodyear headquarters. Roberts also has a family connection to aviation through her late father, Lawrence E. Roberts. He served in the United States military for more than 30 years. Col. Roberts was a pilot with the U.S. Army Air Corps’ prestigious Tuskegee Airmen during World War II. He later became a flight instructor at the Tuskegee Institute.

That said it’s abundantly clear why Robin Roberts was selected for the honor of christening the new Goodyear blimp. The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company’s (GT) newest blimp–Wingfoot One–will be christened on Saturday, August 23rd, in Suffield, Ohio.

  • Joan Lunden Is Fighting Breast Cancer, Says She’s In ‘Warrior Mode’

On Tuesday, former Good Morning America host Joan Lunden revealed that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Lunden wrote a letter to her fans, which she posted on her website.

She appeared on Good Morning America on Tuesday to share her experience. “In the beginning, it’s such a shock, it’s a stunner, and you think, ‘I do everything right!’” she said. At first, Lunden was questioning what she did wrong, but she said that she is now in “warrior mode.”

She said that she has been getting mammograms and ultrasounds regularly, and according to her, nothing showed up in this year’s mammogram results. Her ultrasound, however, was a different story.

After a post-biopsy appointment with her doctor, she learned about her breast cancer. “The words are almost surreal, when you hear, ‘You have breast cancer,’” she said.

When she first heard of the news, Lunden, 63, initially considered keeping her condition a secret from the public. However, after thinking it through, she decided to share the news to the public.

“I have decided to talk about my breast cancer because since the moment I took the job at Good Morning America I have lived my life sharing my joys and my disappointments with all of you: my pregnancies, my relationships, my career,” she said. Lunden was one of the hosts of Good Morning America from 1980 up to 1997.

She continued to say that her cancer is part of her journey and she was not planning to keep it from everyone.

Reports state that Lunden has already started her chemotherapy sessions. Although she said that she does not know how she will feel in the future, she is “assuming the best because that is how I live my life.” Her rep also said that she is sceduled to undergo radiation and lumpectomy and is expected to make a full recovery.

  • Robin Roberts: The Things That Make Her ‘Happy’

Robin Roberts is just one of the Good Morning America personalities to dance on TV to Pharell Williams’s hit song Happy. In a recent interview with a Memphis, Tennessee publication, she talked about the things that truly make her happy.

One of those things is her long time girlfriend Amber Laign. The two have been together in a ‘closeted’ relationship for about 9 years. The two recently walked the red carpet together at the GLSEN Respect Awards. Despite their PDA, however, the couple has no plans to marry.

“Amber and i are extremely happy and we’ve been together almost 9 years now. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” Roberts said during an earlier interview.

Being one of the co-anchors on Good Morning America makes Robin happy, too.

“You know what a thrill that is to look in the camera and say “Good Morning America?” To wake people up and to say we want to do whatever we can to inform you first and foremost but then help you have a good day?” she asks.

The question is indeed a rhetorical one, especially for those who have experienced Robin Roberts sharing her happiness on live TV. The breast cancer survivor and woman who recently defeated a rare blood disorder after receiving a bone marrow transplant from her sister exudes happy. She decided to live her life in the moment and sets a fine example for others in doing so, too. After all, how do any of us know that we have any more than this very moment in time?

She recently shared some of the fun she and her GMA cohorts have during commercial breaks via a photo and message on Twitter.

Can you feel Robin Roberts and her happy when you watch her on GMA? It’s practically contagious these days, isn’t it? Hopefully she will inspire others to live as she does.

  • Jenny McCarthy Clarifies Her Stance on Vaccinations

After publicly stating her opposition to vaccinating children, Jenny McCarthy is changing her tune a bit.

“Everyone should ask questions, but I’m certainly not against them,” McCarthy said during an appearance on Good Morning America Wednesday.

McCarthy began her crusade against vaccinations after her son Evan was diagnosed with autism in 2005. She came to believe there is a link between vaccinations and the behavioral disorder.

The View star recently wrote an op-ed piece for the Chicago Sun Times in which she insisted she was “wrongly branded as ‘anti-vaccine.’”

McCarthy told GMA host Lara Spencer that people need to read the op-ed piece in its entirety to fully understand her stance on the controversial issue.

“I think people should read exactly what I have said instead of reading headlines, and that’s why I wanted to write that piece,” McCarthy said. “Everything that I have said and everything that I believe in is in that piece, so I hope people will go and refer to that so they know exactly what I’ve been saying.

“This is not a change in my stance nor is it a new position I have recently adopted,” she wrote. “I’ve never told anyone to not vaccinate.”

“My beautiful son, Evan, inspired this mother to question the ‘one size fits all’ philosophy of the recommended vaccine schedule,” she continued. “I embarked on this quest not only for myself and my family, but for countless parents who shared my desire for knowledge that could lead to options and alternate schedules, but never to eliminate the vaccines.”

McCarthy questioned vaccinations during a 2008 interview with Larry King.

“Isn’t it ironic, in 1983 there were 10 shots and now there’s 36 and the rise of autism happened at the same time?” she asked. “We need to get rid of the toxins, the mercury—which I am so tired of everyone saying it’s been removed. It has not been removed from the shots.”

  • Amber Laign: Robin Roberts Talks About Life Together

Four months ago Robin Roberts made the decision to come out of the closet after a health scare led her to be more frank about her life.

Now the Good Morning America host has shared more about her relationship with girlfriend Amber Laign and their life together at an appearance on Tuesday’s The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

“We met on a blind date, it will be nine years in July,” Roberts said of her massage therapist girlfriend, who she says was her rock after she was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome.

After telling DeGeneres that Laine was backstage and didn’t want to appear on the show, she shared a photo taken of the couple on her 53rd birthday last November.

“This is where I’m taking one for the team,” said Roberts. “She photographed much better in this picture than I did. But I said, ‘You know what? I’m going use this picture because you look so doggone good.’”

The 54-year-old Roberts told Degeneres they don’t live together, and said Laign tries to stay out of the limelight.

“Not everyone wants to be in the spotlight,” said Roberts. “She’s very, very supportive and she’s been right there beside me every step of the way.”

The cancer survivor said that it was Laign’s support during her health scare that ultimately led her to decide to come out last December in a Facebook post.

“I had been thanking my doctors and nurses, my sister, who was a perfect match — and rightfully so. I asked [Laign], I said, ‘I really want to say thank you.’”

Her post thanking “my long time girlfriend, Amber” led to headlines, and a month later, Roberts shared a photo of them with her GMA family.

Roberts talked about her memoir, Everybody’s Got Something, which includes details about their relationship and the struggles the two faced during Robert’s health crisis.

“In the book, she takes the caregiver’s point of view and it’s really funny that sometimes we didn’t see the same thing eye to eye,” Roberts said. “I thought it was very powerful for people because there’s so many that care for their loved ones. So to see her side of it and to see my side of it was pretty interesting.”

Roberts also thanked DeGeneres for being a “trailblazer,” giving others the courage to come out without fear.

“You have helped a lot of people like myself to have that discussion with their families because you are so well respected and loved and it’s really helped a lot of us and I thank you for that.”

Roberts says her health is good these days, and she’s “strong like a bull.”

She added, “I have never been this happy nor healthy in such a long time.”

  • Amy Robach Finished With Chemo Treatments

Amy Robach Finished With Chemo Treatments

Amy Robach is finished with her chemo treatments. The Good Morning America anchor celebrated her ‘graduation’ from chemotherapy on Friday. Robach was diagnosed with breast cancer following an on-air mammogram.

“I join the ranks of 2.8 million women who are breast-cancer survivors,” she said in a clip that was filmed while she had her very last chemo treatment.

“And I plan on living each day to the very fullest, thankful and grateful, and encouraging so many women out there who are still in the thick of it, who have yet to fight this fight, that you can do it. You can get through this, one step at a time. And I am there for you, I am there with you.”

“With my eighth and final chemo complete, I will start on a new journey, helping raise awareness about early detection, and letting women everywhere know, ‘You can kick cancer’s butt!’” she added.

As she returned from the clip to the GMA live broadcast, Amy shared a small tidbit of information about her comment.

“I actually wanted to say another word, but they wouldn’t let me. ‘You can kick cancer’s bleeeep!’” she said.

Amy Robach debuted a new hairstyle during her chemotherapy treatments several weeks back, as seen in the video clip shared above. She not only rocks the new ‘do, but has also inspired women all over the country with her amazing attitude–from the shock of her cancer diagnosis to her graduation from chemotherapy.

Robach shared this set of photos during her last chemotherapy session on Thursday.

Congratulations to Amy Robach on this momentous milestone, and may the end of her chemo treatments represent the beginning of a long life of abundant good health.

  • Kate Upton: ‘The Other Woman’ Bikini Scene was “Uncomfortable”

Kate Upton says she felt “a little uncomfortable” during filming of her bikini scene in The Other Woman.

It was a sentiment that surprised some, given the fact that Upton has made several appearances in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, even gracing the cover in 2012 and 2013.

Upton’s character Amber makes her first appearance almost halfway through the movie in the form of a slow-motion-running-on-the-beach-in-a-bikini scene that brings to mind Bo Derek’s iconic performance in the 1979 comedy 10.

Upton discussed the scene when she appeared with co-stars Cameron Diaz and Leslie Mann on Good Morning America on Wednesday.

She said Diaz and Mann noticed she was feeling uncomfortable and acted to alleviate her discomfort:

“These two saw that I was feeling a little uncomfortable — because anyone’s uncomfortable when that many people are staring at you — but these two came and ran beside me offscreen,” she said. “I’ve never had support like that before and it was just so amazing that I got that on my first film experience.”

At the April 2 London premiere, Upton revealed that she, Diaz, and Mann became quite close while filming The Other Woman.

“[Diaz and Mann] are such inspirations, amazing actresses and even better people, so I was really lucky,” she said. “We grew as friends and I also learned so much just watching them, they’re phenomenal, just hilarious. We had girls’ night all the time.”

    Diaz and Mann concurred:

“I love these women. They … literally could not have been better … partners,” Diaz said. “We just had so much fun together … They’re such great women. They’re such good-hearted, nurturing generous lovely women who are so talented and are completely just the best partners you could have.”

“We had so much fun together … we really became very close friends,” Mann added.

The Other Woman marks Upton’s third and largest feature film role. In a red carpet interview in London, she said that when she started modeling she didn’t have anyone to help her find her path or give her advice but acting has turned out differently. She feels she can call Diaz and Mann whenever she needs help or advice, or even just a relaxing girls’ night out.

Upton’s sentiments are the real life version of how Diaz envisages the underlying theme of The Other Woman:

“It’s a story about female friendship. Three women become friends and don’t fight over a lying, cheating man. They realize it’s not worth it. Instead, they come to each other’s rescue and help one another through heartbreak.”

  • Good Morning America Anchor Signs New Contract

Good Morning America news anchor George Stephanopoulos has signed a new long-term deal with the network.

While the terms of his new contract, including length and pay, have not been revealed, GMA spokeswoman Heather Riley says that ABC expects him to remain with the network for many years to come.

“We expect him to remain with us for many, many years,” Riley said. “This represents what he wanted — he is committed to GMA and This Week, and understands the power of those platforms. We are thrilled that the team is locked in and that the deal was done so quickly and with such goodwill from all sides.”

Stephanopoulos also serves as the host of the Sunday morning talk show This Week. Under his new deal, he will remain the host of this show as well.

“George is vital to the success of the news division and will continue to be a leader here at ABC News. We are united as a team and over the past few months we have not missed a beat — in fact our audience has only grown,” she continued.

The news of Stephanopoulos’ renewal comes not long after the network said goodbye to weatherman Sam Champion and co-host Josh Elliott.

A big congratulations to @GStephanopoulos – here's to many manyyears working with the best @GMA #team

    — Amy Robach(@arobach) April 24, 2014

TV news industry insiders speculate that Stephanopoulos’ contract is for five years, and a salary somewhere in the $9 million range. His current contract was up in six months and he was currently receiving a salary of approximately $6 million.

  • Robin Roberts Releases Her Memoir

    Robin Roberts Releases Her Memoir

Robin Roberts has released her memoir. Titled Everybody’s Got Something, it recently went on sale at book stores and at online book sellers, too. In it she explains that the title comes from something her mother always used to say, and that her own “something” came in the form of a myelodysplastic syndrome diagnosis. The Good Morning America host stopped by The Late Show to visit with David Letterman earlier this week, and she dished about her health, her happiness, and her new book.

“I can look at your right now and say I am healthier and happier than I’ve ever been,” Roberts gushed. “That’s all the matters.”

“Nobody gets a free ride,” Letterman told her in response.

“You think you’re the only one,” Roberts said of overcoming her health struggles. “And my momma would say, ‘Honey, everybody’s got something.’ Everybody’s got something, not just a challenge, but something to give to help you get through that challenge.”

Robin underwent a successful bone marrow transplant about a year ago while on leave from GMA. In addition to having myelodysplastic syndrome, she is also a breast cancer survivor.

“I am humbled that many have an interest, and draw strength from my on-going journey,”she said, adding that she’s “grateful for the prayers and well wishes of so many people.”

Everybody’s Got Something isn’t Robin Roberts’ first book either. She is also the author of From the Heart: Seven Rules to Live By which made it to the New York Times Best-Seller’s List. During a recent book signing for her new book, however, she was surprised by a visit from former GMA anchor Charlie Gibson.

Robin Roberts impressed fans with her strength of character and attitude as she battled her most recent illness. They–along with those at the ABC Network–were beyond thrilled when she survived the harrowing medical ordeal and made her return to Good Morning America.

Will you be checking out Robin’s new book?

  • Lara Spencer to Co-Host Good Morning America

Lara Spencer was promoted on Good Morning America and will join other co-hosts George Stephanopolous and Robin Roberts, ABC News announced Friday.

Spencer, 44, recently renegotiated her deal with ABC, which coincides with Josh Elliott‘s announcement that he was leaving GMA for NBC Sports.

“A key member of our on-air team, Lara Spencer, rejoined ABC three years ago – bringing her style, humor, sunny confidence, wonderful journalism and storytelling to GMA. Lara is clearly an essential ingredient in the success we have enjoyed and I am so pleased to announce that Lara has been elevated to co-host of the program along with Robin and George,” said ABC News President James Goldston in a note posted to the ABCNews website Friday.

“Lara grew up at WABC and GMA and then returned to us in 2011 as GMA mounted its epic challenge,” said Goldston. “A New York Times best-selling author with another book on the way, the creator and executive producer of Flea Market Flip on HGTV and great mom to Duff and Kate, Lara is simply as talented as they come.”

Stephanopolous tweeted about the big news on Friday.

Spencer has been Good Morning America‘s lifestyle anchor since rejoining ABC in 2011 and was previously a national correspondent for the morning show from 1999 to 2003.

Spencer tweeted her thanks Saturday to all her well-wishers.

Spencer should be a great addition to the morning program. Here’s a view of some of her fun antics.

  • Lara Spencer Named New ‘GMA’ Co-Host

Lara Spencer was named a Good Morning America co-host on Friday. This puts her in the same playing field as both Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos and means she will have far more exposure during the first hour of the show. This is just another of a string of changes at GMA. Sam Champion was replaced by Ginger Zee in December and Josh Elliott was replaced by Amy Robach just a few weeks ago. Sources expect Spencer’s promotion is the last of the big changes for the show. Her promotion was announced publicly just a month after she signed a new ABC News contract.

Spencer’s big news was announced by James Goldston, president of ABC News. In an internal memorandum he told those who work on the show that “Lara is clearly an essential ingredient in the success we have enjoyed.”

Lara Spencer hosted the entertainment news magazine The Insider before she became part of Good Morning America back in 2011, as “lifestyle anchor,” a job was was created just for her. Her signature segment has been the “Pop News Heat Index,” a one-hour summary of entertainment and pop culture news stories running from 8:00 to 9:00 A.M.

It was two years ago this very week that Good Morning America overtook The TODAY Show in the morning news program ratings. That ended a 16-year streak TODAY had of being the winning news program. They have yet to regain that status. Just last week GMA led TODAY by 279,000 viewers between the ages of 25 and 54. This age group denotes a key demographic for news advertisers.

It was announced just a few days ago that Live with Kelly and Michael star Michael Strahan will also be joining Good Morning America as a special correspondent. He won’t be leaving the show he co-hosts with Kelly Ripa, however. He and Lara Spencer are shown in her Instragram photo as she tells him he will need extra caffeine in order to be part of the morning news show.

Congratulations to Lara Spencer on her promotion at Good Morning America. How do you suppose Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos feel about sharing the limelight with a third party? Do you suppose they are on board with Spencer’s promotion or are they feeling as though they’ve been thrown under that proverbial bus?

  • Michael Strahan: ABC Host Set To Join Good Morning America On Part-Time Basis

Michael Strahan, Kelly Ripa’s co-host on ABC’s Live! with Kelly and Michael, made a big announcement on Wednesday during their morning show.

“I’m gonna be on ‘GMA’ now,” Strahan said, referring to the network’s other daytime show, Good Morning America. He won’t be leaving Ripa’s side however—he’s only signing on to his new show as a part-time co-host. He has a lot going on, he said, and doesn’t think he can do Good Morning America every day. “I have to be smart about it,” he added.

He reassured viewers that his show with Ripa “is my No. 1 priority—you are my No. 1 priority.” He values the show highly, and would never do anything to “jeopardize the quality” of what he does on Live!

The rumors about Strahan joining the show began yesterday, three days after news anchor Josh Elliott quit Good Morning America. Earlier, it was announced that Elliott was moving on to NBC Sports. According to a report, the part-time gig had been in the works for months, and as such, it had nothing to do with Elliott’s sudden exit from ABC.

Strahan said he had a meeting about the possibility of him being part of Good Morning America. He then went to watch the new Captain America movie with actor Samuel L. Jackson, and when he got out of the screening and checked his messages, he was informed of the good news.

The 42-year-old former New York Giants player will join cast members Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Lara Spencer, Amy Robach, and Ginger Zee during the first hour of Good Morning America.

Strahan first joined ABC as Regis Philbin’s co-host in Live! with Regis and Kelly when Ripa was absent for the show in October 2010. Philbin left the show in November the following year, and Strahan became a regular guest on the show, he was later selected to be Ripa’s new co-host. He made his debut as official co-host on the rechristened show in September 2012.

  • Amy Robach Replaces Josh Elliott on ‘GMA’

Amy Robach Replaces Josh Elliott on ‘GMA’

Amy Robach is Josh Elliott’s replacement on Good Morning America. The changing of the guard took place on Monday. Josh Elliott accepted a job with NBC Sports, as his contract with GMA draws to a close. He was actually enjoying a pre-arranged vacation day on Monday, so George Stephanopoulos made the announcement on the show.

“He is going back to his roots, reporting on the NFL and the Olympics on NBC Sports,” Stephanopoulos said. “He let us know last night, and, Josh, it has been a great run with you here on GMA. We’re very happy you’re going to be pursuing your passion.”

Amy Robach, who recently leaned on GMA’s Robin Roberts for support during her breast cancer ordeal, is no stranger to the anchor desk at Good Morning America.

“It feels so natural because Amy has been such a big part of our family for so many days filling in during Robin [Roberts’] illness,” Stephanopoulos said.

GMA’s Lara Spencer alluded to the fact that George was now in a serious minority, being the last male co-host on Good Morning America.

“The estrogen is flowing,” she joked.

Amy Robach wished Josh Elliott the very best, saying the two had become good friends since she came to the show.

“The second phone call I got last night was from Josh, congratulating me,” she said. “I congratulated him. We’ve all become such dear friends, and we will remain so. I want to wish him the very best on his new path and his new career.”

Later when Stephanopoulos threw to Robach for her first update of the news, he mentioned that he hoped this would be the first of many tosses to her.

“Thank goodness I’ve ridden this bicycle before,” Robach said.

Amy Robach has ridden that bicycle and more in recent months and all of her experiences will no doubt make her well equipped for the position she has just earned.

  • Lara Spencer to Stay at ‘Good Morning America’

Lara Spencer has finalized plans to stay at Good Morning America on a long-term basis.

“You know you’re in the right job when getting up at 4 a.m. is a joy,” said Spencer in a statement provided to The Hollywood Reporter. “This was a simple decision; I love what I do, and I adore the people I work with. I am thrilled to be on this team and look forward to many more years.”

ABC Senior Vice President Jeffrey Schneider is thrilled.

“We couldn’t be happier,” he said. “Lara is a uniquely gifted anchor at the top of her game. She brings so much energy, fun and smarts to every single broadcast. She is beloved by our viewers with good reason.”

Spencer has been the show’s lifestyle anchor since back in 2011, and has represented Good Morning America at several big events like the Academy Awards. She also hosts a show on HGTV where she hunts for and restores treasures found at flea markets all around the country. Her two worlds often collide.

“Lara is a talented producer who has created terrific original content,” Schneider added. “And we expect that she will continue to flex those muscles in the coming years.”

No word has leaked yet on what Lara Spencer’s new GMA contract might be worth. Good Morning America has been ranked as the top morning news show for about two years now–ever since Ann Curry was fired as cohost of The TODAY Show.

Lara’s new contract meant what is no doubt an even better one for Robin Roberts as well. Negotiations are presently underway with Josh Elliott, who has been offered a spot with NBC Sports. He has left than a month left on his ABC contract and the network would reportedly like to keep their present team together.

What’s your take on Lara Spencer becoming a permanent GMA figure?

  • Robin Roberts To Serve As Guest Judge On DWTS

There will be a new face at the judging panel on Dancing with the Stars next week!

Robin Roberts, co-anchor of ABC’s Good Morning America, will be joining Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba as a guest judge on Monday, March 31.

DWTS frequently has guest judges appear on the show, and Roberts will make the first this season. Other guests scheduled to appear are Ricky Martin, Julianne Hough, and Redfoo from LMFAO.

Roberts recently spoke about the opportunity, saying that she was definitely nervous, but was ready to take on something different and step out of her comfort zone. “I am nervous, yet you have to step outside your comfort zone,” she said. “I think I am going to take the perspective of those who normally watch at home.”

Roberts took to Twitter yesterday asking her followers if they had any tips for her. “Very excited/nervous about being a guest judge next week on #DWTS. If you have any tips..let me know. #Yikes!” she tweeted.

DWTS is currently in its 18th season, and there has long been a correlation between DWTS and GMA’s ratings. When contestants from DWTS appear for interviews on the morning news show, GMA’s ratings tend to spike.

  • Robin Roberts Will Guest Judge on “Dancing”

Robin Roberts Will Guest Judge on “Dancing”

It has been an eventful few months for Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts. In December, she introduced the world to her girlfriend, Amber Laign. In February, she co-hosted Red Carpet Live.

And now, Dancing with the Stars judges announced, she will be the first celebrity guest judge to feature on the hit reality show. Now on its 18th season, DWTS has resisted the guest-judge trend for longer than many similar reality shows.

The decision was announced on Good Morning America this past Tuesday, March 25th. Each celebrity will be asked to dance a dance that expresses the most memorable year of his or her life. Other celebrities slated to make guest appearances on the show include Julianne Hough and Ricky Martin.

“I am… nervous,” Roberts said after regular judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, and Bruno Toniolo gleefully congratulated her.

“We love guest judges,” exclaimed Inaba.

“We’ll have great fun together,” Toniolo assured her.

Roberts took to Twitter for advice and received plenty of encouraging responses.

Perhaps Roberts simply felt out of practice. She last showed off her dancing skills in 2010 when she danced the cha-cha with DWTS second season contestant Maksim Chmerkovskiy after a day of training from the show.

Watch Roberts’ debut as a guest judge on DWTS Monday, March 31st.

  • Chelsie Hightower Talks About DWTS Week 1

Chelsie Hightower may not be dancing as a pro on season 18 of Dancing With the Stars (DWTS), but she is weighing in on all of the performances from week one.

The ballroom dancer, who was a professional on DWTS for seasons 8 – 12, as well as seasons 14 and 15, is sizing up the contestants on a blog for ABC and on a panel with Good Morning America (GMA).

In her blog, Hightower admits that contestant Danica McKellar is her early favorite, though she was impressed by most of the contestants.

While she didn’t think Billy Dee Williams was a “great dancer,” she did give him some advice, “Just give it a little more energy and work on using those arms! We just want to see a little improvement every week. You got this!”

Like many who watched the season 18 opener of DWTS, Hightower was inspired by Amy Purdy and her performance. “Amy has sterling courage to face the stiff challenge this show presents! That is not just noteworthy but absolutely inspiring to all who will watch her performances in the coming weeks,” said Hightower.

Hightower gave positive reviews to all contestants, ending her post with, “Over-all it was an impressive ‘Dancing with the Stars’ seasonal premiere! If the opening show is any indication, and it is, this will be a strong season featuring great dancing!”

On Tuesday morning Hightower joined former DWTS contestant Sherri Shepherd, Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Josh Elliott, and Amy Robach, to further discuss the performances from the first night of season 18 of DWTS.

Hightower took to Instagram to document her time on GMA.

    “Fun on the panel @GMA”

“Always love seeing this woman @sherrieshepherd and getting her sweet words of advice. So much love to you Sherri!”

  • Cross-Eyed Cat is the Newest Internet Viral Star

Cats and babies always seem to go viral pretty quickly on the internet.

Well the new cat on the block is Jarvis P. Weasley, the cross-eyed cat.

Oakland resident Daria Kelly, 51, rescued Jarvis from the city’s animal services shelter in 2009 when he was just a kitten. She was volunteering at Saving Grace Rescue Inc. and the local humane society.

Kelly — who is studying to become a veterinary technician — named her kitty after a rock star Jarvis Cocker and Harry Potter character, Ron Weasley.

“I had another cat that had an extreme surgery and I contacted a pet photographer to take pictures of her,” Kelly told GoodMorningAmerica.com. “He came over and took pictures of her and one day I sent him a picture of Jarvis and he loved it.”

“He sent it to his friend who runs Lovemeow.com and she ran an article last year and then a news agency found the article just this month and contacted me,” Kelly said.

According to Kelly, her friends had been trying to get her to host a Facebook page for Jarvis for years.

“I’m like, ‘I’m going to school. I’m taking care of cats. I don’t have time to social network my cat,’” Kelly said she told her friends.

Jarvis told GMA about her first encounter with Jarvis at Saving Grace Rescue Inc. when he had a severe upper respiratory infection.

“I would watch him and he was just the happiest and cutest kitten, even with snot coming out of his nose and his eyes dripping,” Kelly said.

“After the other sick kittens I was fostering went back for adoption, I snagged Jarvis to foster but I knew he was never going back,” she said. “He was just adorable and his personality is so strong.”
