Lena Dunham Says She Might Quit Acting

As a woman in control, Lena Dunham has had a role unlike most women in the film and television industry. Dunham has been rising in popularity over the past couple of years due to her hit HBO show and its many fans.

She continues to gain popularity for her show, and as a celebrity icon, but perhaps she does not want to be seen in front of the camera anymore. Lena Dunham has been incredibly busy with her work with Girls, and in addition to be the star and central character on the show, she also created, writes, and directs the show, which is currently in its third season.

Lena Dunham is spotlighted in a recent issue of Glamour Magazine, and in an interview she said “I don’t know if I’m going to want to act anymore. I’m always relieved on the days I don’t have to. I’d rather give parts to other women than be the woman having the parts.”

She also opens up about her relationship with guitarist Jack Antonoff in the interview, and talks about things such as fashion and how she would rather make a big deal out of a good haircut than wearing a bunch of makeup.

In addition to Girls, she has starred in a handful of films including This Is 40 and Tiny Furniture, an independent film that she both created and starred in.

The 27-year-old’s show Girls has been nominated for both Emmys and Golden Globe awards on multiple occasions, and she won multiple Golden Globes after the show’s first season.

In addition to her time in film and television, it was also announced recently that Lena Dunham would be authoring a series of Archie Comics. She has been a longtime fan of the series, and will get to add her own type of story to the comic strip.

Throughout Lena Dunham’s career, she has played characters similar to herself, and uses Girls almost to emulate her own life, citing several similarities with Hannah and herself. She was the most recent host of Saturday Night Live, and spoke to a crowd at the SXSW conference in Austin, Texas about how she is trying to change the role of women in Hollywood.

  • Girls Tv Show Star Talks Glamour and Golden Globes

Season 3 of Girls’ promotional tour took off fully this week with cast members appearing on various talk shows. Girls’ new season starts tomorrow night on HBO at 10pm EST. Zosia Mamet, who plays eccentric Shoshana, sat down with Chelsea Lately host, Chelsea Handler, to discuss the upcoming season. The conversation quickly departed from Girls to Mamet’s personal life.

Handler seemed a little shocked by how normal Zosia is in comparison to her character. The interview later turned into a discussion on Mamet’s name on the show, because Handler never met a Shoshana besides her sister. This prompts Mamet to tell a story about meeting someone on MySpace who shared her first name.

Eventually, Mamet revealed that she will be a columnist for Glamour magazine. Her Glamour editor gave her an open invite to talk anytime she needs to. Mamet recounted her belief that she would only contact the editor once in a while. In reality, she contacts her daily. One day on the subway, Mamet saw women with varying shapes of eyebrows. One woman made them “pointy” by shaving them. Mamet thought after seeing those eyebrows that it would be a good topic on how they define women. She contacted her editor about doing a piece on eyebrow evolution.

Then the conversation quickly shifted to Girls’ Golden Globe win last year. During the Golden Globes, Mamet remembered how the food removal and replacement with alcohol. “Wait um I’m sorry, can I eat that? And they said ‘no,’ so all that is left is these large bottles of champagne,” Mamet revealed to Hander.

Mamet expressed joy about getting along with her costars so well, to which Handler replied “give it time.”

To see if Girls wins their second Golden Globe tune into the live broadcast Sunday night at 8pm EST.

  • Girls TV Show Nude-ispute: Reporter Relays His Side

Whenever an argument gains momentum, trends, and turns into gossip fodder – on the internet or otherwise – it’s always best to hear both sides before making an assessment.

Today, the tiff in question is a debate between Lena Dunham her Girls TV show associates versus a reporter at the Television Critics Association press tour panel. During their winter press tour, reporter Tim Molloy inquired about the level of nudity on the show – comparing it to Game of Thrones, before deducing that the latter had purpose while the former did not. Tim had commented during his question:

“They’re doing it to be salacious. To titillate people. And your character is often naked at random times for no reason.”

Affronted, Dunham retorted, “It’s because it’s a realistic expression of what it’s like to be alive, I think, and I totally get it. If you are not into me, that’s your problem.” Lena’s colleagues then chimed in, chastising Molloy for his unfavorable phrasing.

But what about the reporter’s side of the story?

Well, in his online recollection of the story, Tim Molloy addresses Lena’s comment, saying: “Huh? But I didn’t say that,” recalling that subsequently the “conversation continued its personal turn as Apatow asked if I had a girlfriend.” During the panel, Apatow had followed up Molloy’s affirmative reply with, “Let’s see how she likes you when you quote that with your question.”

Molloy’s online response went on to say that his girlfriend “wondered about it too” and was “cool with it”.

Ultimately the problem wasn’t so much about the question of nudity so much as how Molloy asked it. By saying it was “for no reason”, the implication was that it had no artistic merit. By highlighting the disparity of thread-shedding in Thrones versus Girls with the adjectives he did, the inference could be made that Dunham’s natural nudity is merely pointless and “random”, while saline tits are “titillating”. That adjective, however, he omitted as recalled the exchange and stood his ground online:

The happy ending to this story is that all press it good press for professionals whose livelihood depends on it – especially when it’s so well timed. Oh, gee. Did I leave that out? Yes – since the first episode of Girls premieres Jan. 12, 2014, it’s such a happy accident that this amplified coverage of perceived body-shaming will ignite a buzz-trend on Twitter to remind viewers to watch it on Sunday.

Meanwhile on Twitter, Mr. Molloy seems to be enjoying his 15 minutes of infamy from Lena’s legions of followers as his article gets heaps of hits from haters.

But I’m, like, totally sure this little dispute wasn’t blown out of proportion or planned for publicity… whatsoever.

I mean, what would either party possibly have to gain?
