  • New Girl Scout Cookies Are Coming to Surely Wreck Your Resolutions

Oh, it’s not like you were really going to stop eating sweets forever.

Here in time to bust your diets, the Girl Scouts organization has just announced that this year’s cookie season will include three new varieties – two of which or gluten-free.

The first new cookie is called Toffee-tastic and, as advertised, will feature “crunchy golden toffee bits” inside “Indulgently rich, buttery cookies”.

The next new cookie is the Trios, a peanut butter oatmeal cookie with chocolate chips. These are the two gluten-free options.

The final new offering is the Rah-Rah Raisins – “made with whole grain oats, these new hearty oatmeal cookies are packed with plump raisins and Greek yogurt-flavored chunk”.

These new cookies will join, not replace, classic favorites like Thin Mints, Samoas, and Shortbread. The new cookies will debut on February 27, in correlation with National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend.

“The Girl Scout Cookie Program is the largest, most successful girl-led business in the world, and its power to teach girls business and financial skills that will serve them throughout their lives is unrivaled,” said Anna Maria Chávez, CEO of Girl Scouts of the USA. “Every year, nearly 1.5 million Girl Scouts sell about 200 million boxes of cookies—close to $800 million worth; and every year, our young cookie entrepreneurs reinvest that money into troop activities and projects that make their communities and our world a better place. There is no other program that allows girls to gain such valuable experience and understanding of how they can transform their world, all while having fun and engaging in the excitement of the cookie season.”

And there’s no other program that makes people feel like it’s ok to eat an entire box of cookies in one sitting. God bless America.

  • Girl Scout Cookie Record Broken By 11 Year Old

If there is one thing Girl Scouts like to do, it’s sell cookies. Every year, Girl Scouts all over the world challenge themselves and each other to sell the most cookies possible. There is even a record for the most Girl Scout cookies ever sold.

The previous record of 18,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies was broken this week by a girl from Oklahoma. Katie Francis attends Middle School in Oklahoma City and beat the record by 10 boxes. Katie still has a week of selling left and hopes to bring her total up to 20,000 within that time. The previous record was set by scout Elizabeth Brinton in the mid-1980s.

Last year, Katie sold 12,428 boxes of cookies and was the national top seller. Jaimie Siegal, director of marketing and communications at Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma said that she was aware of Katie’s successful selling, but wanted to wait until the selling time had ended before they recognize her as the new record holder.

“There’s three ingredients to selling cookies: There’s lots of time, lots of commitment, and I have to ask everybody that I see,” the 11-year-old said in an interview. “For the last two years, I beat the state record and it just seemed like the national record was next on the list,” she continued.

Girl Scout cookies are sold by troops across the country as a way to make money to fund trips and activities. The fundraiser was started in Oklahoma over a decade ago by one scout group who wanted to earn money for a special trip. Other Girl Scout groups quickly caught on and the tradition began.

Girl Scout cookies are something many people look forward to and many customers are happy to purchase the delicious treats to help out their local Girl Scout troops. Girl Scout cookies are even sold online.

So what is the new record holder’s favorite type of Girl Scout cookie? Somoas of course.

  • Girl Scout Cookies: Mother Fired For Selling to Customers

Parents who pressure co-workers to buy fundraiser products for their child’s sports team or school band can make things awkward around the break room, but Girl Scout cookies are generally the welcome exception. Even so, one woman went a step further by offering the snacks to customers and has now been fired for the offense.

The local Fox affiliate in Washington D.C. is reporting that Tracy Lewis, an employee for a food service company at American University called Bon Appetit Management, has been fired for selling Girl Scout cookies at work.

Her former employer accuses her of selling Girl Scout cookies over-the-counter to customers. Lewis admitted to Fox that she kept the cookies “on a cart” and would sell them if customers asked, but she also stated that she did not solicit customers to buy them. She said that she had been doing this for three years.

Fox reported that Lewis had been working for various food service companies at American University for 28 years.
