  • Gina Rodriguez: “Jane the Virgin” Star to Loan 2015 Golden Globes Dress to Fan

Gina Rodriguez, star of the hit TV show Jane the Virgin, is set to loan her 2015 Golden Globes dress to a fan to wear to her high school prom.

High school senior Jessica Casanova, from Buffalo, New York, and Gina Rodriguez engaged in a Twitter conversation just a couple of days ago. That’s when Casanova admitted she’d love to wear the dress Gina Rodriguez wore to last month’s Golden Globes–a gorgeous navy blue Zac Posen gown.

Likely never expecting a reply–especially not one like this–Casanova heard back from the actress.

The Twitter conversation between Gina Rodriguez and Jessica Casanova continued, with Rodriguez offering to loan the dress and Casanova making a wonderful suggestion of her own.

“Can we start a ‘Sisterhood of the Traveling Gina Golden Globes Dress?’” she asked Gina Rodriguez.

Can you imagine how excited Jessica Casanova is to be wearing Gina Rodriguez’s gown to her prom?

Kudos to Gina Rodriguez for making this young lady’s dream come true.

  • Gina Rodriguez Makes Fan’s Prom Dream Come True, Gives Her Golden Globes Dress

Gina Rodriguez is an official fairy godmother.

In an amazing feat of sweetness, Gina Rodriguez is providing her gorgeous black, strapless Golden Globes dress for a fan’s upcoming prom.

That is so awesome of Gina Rodriguez!

How did Gina Rodriguez’s fan get this privilege?

    She just had to ask…

Another fan then suggested a sisterhood of the traveling dress.

Of course, Gina Rodriguez was happy to oblige.

Gina Rodriguez has always been up for making women feel good about themselves, no matter what they look like, and she most definitely accomplished that with these girls!

Gina Rodriguez recently said, “I am constantly working toward bettering myself, and that means catering to what is best for my body. It means feeling the most comfortable in my skin and not living up to false perceptions of what that is, or that there is just one body type.”

She added, “It’s a long journey because of how often we are bombarded with images of supposed ‘perfection’ and we have to consistently be battling them. We have to remind ourselves that we are enough and ‘perfect’ is an illusion.”

What do you think about Gina Rodriguez giving her gorgeous dress to these girls?

  • Gina Rodriguez And ‘House Of Lies’ Actor Ben Schwartz Are A Couple

Gina Rodriguez , who plays Jane Villanueva in Jane the Virgin, was spotted having a good time with House of Lies actor Ben Schwartz at the Danny Garcia and Robert Guerrero WBC championship fight at Staples Center, Los Angeles on Saturday evening, which confirmed initial reports that the two are officially dating.

The actress, who won a 2015 Golden Globe award for her work in Jane the Virgin, and her new beau were all smiles in a photo taken during the match.

“She’s so happy,” an insider told Us Weekly. “She thinks he is so great and all her friends love him.”

Gina Rodriguez Gives a Heartfelt Speech After Winning a Golden Globe

Although Gina Rodriguez kept silent about her new love life during her appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday, the actress shared her dream of having a baby.

Rodriguez, 31, plays a new mother who got pregnant after a doctor artificially inseminated her by accident. The actress said she felt a strange connection with the baby on the set as soon as she cuddled it. “I feel like they bring the baby up to me on set and my ovaries are like, “Ahh! Come here, baby!’” Gina Rodriguez shared to Ellen.

“It’s, like, perfect. As soon as one cries they take it away from me and the other one comes in. That’s what happens in real life, right? I could adopt, right? Yeah, I just might do that. I definitely want to adopt,” she continued.

Schwartz, 34, currently stars in the hit political drama series House of Lies and also appeared in NBC’s Parks and Recreation as Jean-Ralphio. His new film The Intervention premiered at this year’s Sundance Festival’s dramatic competition.

Gina Rodriguez previously dated Revenge actor Henri Esteve but broke up in 2015 after more than a year of dating.

  • Gina Rodriguez: “Jane the Virgin” Star Has New Man in Her Life, Challenges #MovementMondays

Gina Rodriguez has a new man in her life. The Jane the Virgin star is dating House of Lies actor Ben Schwartz. Schwartz is also known for his five-year stint on Parks and Recreation as Jean-Ralphio. He appeared in the 2014 film This is Where I Leave You.

It was just this past September that Gina Rodriguez and Revenge star Henri Esteve called it quits after dating for over a year.

“She’s so happy,” a source tells Us Weekly. “She thinks he is so great and all her friends love him.”

Just a few days ago, Gina Rodriguez appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, and chatted with Ellen about her desire to have a baby.

“I feel like they bring the baby up to me [on set] and my ovaries are like, ‘Ahh! Come here, baby!’” she said. “It’s, like, perfect. As soon as one cries they take it away from me and the other one comes in. That’s what happens in real life, right?”

“I could adopt, right? Yeah, I just might do that. I definitely want to adopt,” she said.

Do you suppose Ben Schwartz knows about Gina Rodriguez’s desire to become a mom? Hopefully it won’t scare him off if he’s not yet on the same page.

Even if he’s not, Rodriguez isn’t one to shy away from much of anything. On Monday she announced her new social media campaign called #MovementMondays to promote the work on Latinos on screen.

“With all this Oscar talk and lack of diversity, I decided to start a movement and speak from the perspective of a Latina American who desires to see more Latinos on screen,” she wrote on several social media platforms. “There are 55 million Latinos in this country, and although we all come from various backgrounds, our unity can make a movie explode at the box office or a TV show [soar] to the highest viewers possible. The better these projects do financially, the more money they will spend on putting Latinos in blockbuster films, as leads in TV shows, etc.”

“Right now there isn’t one Latino that can greenlight a movie. That means no studio will put their money behind a Latino face as a lead of a movie because they don’t believe we can make their money back. Let’s start making noise with where it matters most, where we put our dollars,” Gina Rodriguez added.

Gina Rodriguez is nothing if not a completely motivated woman–and a motivator, too. Will Ben Schwartz be able to keep up with her?

He’s likely very proud of the new woman in his life, as fans surely are, too.

  • Eva Longoria, America Ferrera: Not All Latinas Are the Same

Eva Longoria and America Ferrera used humor to get their point across–and diss presidential hopeful Donald Trump–while serving as presenters at Sunday’s Golden Globes.

Host Ricky Gervais helped set them up for their hilarious sketch.

“Eva Longoria and America Ferrera aren’t just beautiful talented actresses, they’re also two people who your future president Donald Trump can’t wait to deport,” he said right before the Telenovela and Superstore stars, respectively, took the stage.

“Hi, I’m Eva Longoria, not Eva Mendes,” Longoria said.

“And hi, I’m America Ferrera, not Gina Rodriguez,” Ferrera said.

“Nope. Well said, Salma,” America Ferrera said, in reference to Salma Hayek, who is Mexican-American.

“Thank you, Charo,” Eva Longoria replied, mentioning the Spanish-American actress/singer.

The joke was likely initiated because the Golden Globes Twitter account mixed up Ferrera and Rodriguez in now-deleted tweets when announcing the Golden Globes nominations earlier in December. Eva Longoria–a hardcore Democrat–not doubt wanted to get digs in at Donald Trump for his remarks about Mexicans made earlier in his campaign.

Did you catch Eva Longoria and America Ferrera on stage Sunday night at the Golden Globes? What did you think of their implication that not all Latinas are the same?

The two presented not only a Golden Globe award, but some of the funniest comedy of the evening.

  • Britney Spears Impresses Gina Rodriguez, Pop Star Shows Off Comedic Chops On ‘Jane The Virgin’

Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez is all praises for Britney Spears after she joined her in the show.

“Incredible. Incredible. Incredible woman, super sweet, super kind,” Rodriguez said. “She loved the show, that’s how it actually ended up happening.”

According to Rodriguez, Spears can do comedy just as she can sing and dance.

“She definitely got comedy chops like nobody’s business, and to go head-to-head with Jaime [Camil] is like, the ultimate challenge for a comedic actress because he’s so incredible. She held her own and more. She was very, very good!”

Rodriguez also said that she has always been a fan of Spears since she was 16, so it was like a dream come true for her to share scenes Spears. She recounts her experience dancing with Spears.

“I get to dance with her! I won’t tell you how or what capacity, but I got to dance with her! I’m just a better person because of it. There’s a lot of my childhood that was complete yesterday.”

Rodriguez couldn’t contain her excitement over having Spears on her show that she even posted a photo of them making goofy faces on her Twitter page.

“I swear I go back to that freaking picture so often ’cause I’m, like, this happened!’ ”

It seems like the show’s boss knew exactly how Rodriguez would react to Spears’ guest appearance that they kept the news from her until the actual day of shooting.

“I don’t know anything. Jennie Snyder, the series creator doesn’t tell me anything, because she knows I would tell you guys everything,” Rodriguez said.

Meanwhile, Spears will resume her Las Vegas residency at The AXIS at Planet Hollywood on October 14. She is also recording her ninth album.

‘We’re having fun right now,” Spears said. “I’m working with some women who are amazing writers. I have ballads and, of course, dance music – fun, cheeky, sexy stuff.”

  • Britney Spears Has ‘Comedy Chops,’ Says Jane the Virgin Star

Britney Spears can hold her own, comedically.

That’s what Gina Rodriguez, star of the hit CW show Jane the Virgin, had to say about her co-star.

Yes, Britney Spears will guest star on season two of the Golden Globe-winning show.

“She definitely got comedy chops like nobody’s business, and to go head-to-head with Jaime [Camil] is like, the ultimate challenge for a comedic actress because he’s so incredible. She held her own and more. She was very, very good!” said Rodriguez.

    Jamie Camil plays Jane’s father.

Rodriguez is clearly a big fan of Britney Spears, having grown up on her music.

“Britney Spears was my pop star. You know what I’m saying? She’s my era, she’s a few years older than me. I remember just being 16 and wishing I was Britney.”

Here’s what she had to say about a particular dance scene:

“I won’t even tell you why or in what capacity … I’m just a better person because of it … There’s a lot of my childhood that was complete yesterday.”

Jane the Virgin isn’t the only hit TV show that Britney Spears (may) be stopping by. Recently, rumors suggested that Britney Spears would have a spot on season four of Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black – but those are sketchy at best. The rumors seem to stem from one of the show’s stars, Taryn Manning, saying she would love it if Spears signed on.

  • Britney Spears Returns To TV On ‘Jane The Virgin’

Britney Spears will be returning to TV this fall.

The pop star confirmed Tuesday that she will be guest-starring in the upcoming season of The CW’s Jane the Virgin.

Spears announced her return to TV via Twitter on Tuesday.

“See u at the Marbella Hotel soon, @hereisgina @jaimecamil! Guest starring on one of my favorite shows EVER @CWJaneTheVirgin #DreamComeTrue,” tweeted Spears, mentioning Jane the Virgin stars Gina Rodriguez and Jaime Camil.

Golden Globe winner Rodriguez, 31, tweeted right back.

Camil also Tweeted, calling Spears’ upcoming appearance “a great honor,” and Rodriguez’s on-screen leading man Justin Baldoni wrote on Twitter.

Britney Spears, 33, is not new to making guest appearances on television. She appeared in How I Met your Mother in 2008 and Will & Grace in 2006. However, according to People magazine, her appearance in Jane the Virgin is extra special for the singer because the CW series is one of her favorite shows on television.

“I get really into Jane the Virgin,” Spears told People. “It’s fun.”

Showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman shared a bit about Spears’ plotline.

“We’re really excited. We have a backstory, it turns out she is a real nemesis of Rogelio’s, but the sort of quality of their attraction is a little bit in dispute between what Rogelio thinks and what Britney thinks.”

Snyder Urman added that approaching Britney with an offer to appear on the show was a no-brainer.

“When we found out she was a fan, we said, ‘Would you please, please be on the show?’ Happily she said yes.”

  • Gina Rodriguez: Art Imitates Life for ‘Jane the Virgin’ Star

Gina Rodriguez plays a powerful role on the CW’s hit show Jane the Virgin, and in many ways art imitates life for the rising star. Winning the Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy for that role is seemingly just the tip of the iceberg.

“The same way Jane is transforming in her life about finding out what’s real and what’s important and what makes her grounded–what’s a priority [and] what’s necessary in her life and who she wants to be–so am I,” Gina Rodriguez said during a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “There was a transformation that happened where Jane was like, ‘I do want this child; why am I talking like I don’t? I don’t want to be the woman that goes into this pregnancy with resentment or any kind of ill will toward my child.’ It’s the same way I am understanding the woman I want to be in all of this. I want to soak up every moment; I want to soak up every day; I don’t want to worry about tomorrow. And I want to make sure that I focus on the work because that’s what got me here. You know, they make jokes when I come on set, like, ‘Oh, Miss Golden Globe winner!’ But I still have to prove I’m worth that. If anything more so now, I have to show them they made the right decision.”

Rodriguez also spoke during her interview about the upcoming second half of the Jane the Virgin’s first season. What can fans expect?

“On her family. When we left Jane, she made a very big decision about dropping the lawsuit, which had felt uncomfortable to her. Her backing down from the lawsuit was about remembering what matters to her, which is really family. She has been such a militant disciplinarian [at times], and she really had to think, “Why am I doing this? To teach somebody a lesson? Over my family being safe–my grandmother being safe? Why am I the one who has to be that teacher?” That wasn’t right. We all do — we realize that we may have made a mistake, may need to re-evaluate what we’re doing. So when we come back, after Abuela [Ivonne Coll] fell down the stairs, you’re going to see just how much family means to [Jane], and just how much Michael [Brett Dier] is in love with Jane and the things that Michael will do to protect Jane,” Rodriquez explained.

Gina Rodriguez dished about Jane’s choice of Rafael over Michael.

“I really like that dichotomy of where her safety zone is, because you’ll be able to understand why she makes certain decisions when it comes to men–because of her fear. Jane has legitimate, real fears and doesn’t want to mess up. She’s got this thing about her where she’s so afraid of messing up, of missing out, of losing, of hurting someone that she holds tight. She’s going to go through a point where she’s introducing Rafael to her life–to her family–and has to make risky choices. That’s very new for Jane,” Gina said.

And she talked about the topic of immigration with regard to Jane to Virgin.

“Having an actress on our show, Diane Guerrero, who has spoken very openly about her situation with immigration and losing her family, I think it’s important to have these social commentary episodes that you’re not beating people over the head with it. Nobody likes to be beat over the head with anything. And I really like the fact that they integrated something so valuable and so important in our daily lives,” Rodriguez said.

It really does seem like there is way more to Gina Rodriguez’s Jane than a made-up character for a TV show. And even though that show is Jane the Virgin and just happens to be a new hit for the CW, that girl is way too savvy to not let art imitate life–and vice versa.

  • Gina Rodriguez: ‘Jane the Virgin’ Star Takes Responsibility As Positive Role Model Seriously

Gina Rodriguez, who is being touted as the breakout star of the fall television season with her new show, Jane the Virgin, takes her responsibility as a positive role model for both the Latino community and young women very seriously.

“For me, I’ve always known that if this was something I was going to go into with seriousness, then as an artist, I have a responsibility,” said Rodriguez in an interview with TV Guide. “We are given the blessing of recognition, obscene financial abundance, free things when lord knows you can afford it, and to not use [my position] to create change, to liberate people, seems like a waste of a gift. So I’ve never felt pressured.

“But I do stand here for all the young girls, regardless of their skin color, I sit here for all the Latina girls born in America who speak both English and Spanish — or for the girls that don’t speak Spanish but are expected to speak Spanish — I stand here for all of those categories I fit into to say, ‘If I can do it, you can do it. If I can follow my dreams, you can follow your dreams. If I can do this with respect and integrity and morality you can too.’”

The fame, the money and the responsibility are all very new for the 29-year-old actress, who said she comes from a very humble upbringing.

“I would look up at the screen and I would see very few [actors] that looked like me, very few that had my experience or represented what I saw in the real world,” she said. “I have an amazing family, two older sisters — one’s an investment banker, one is a doctor — but I never saw that on screen. We came from humble beginnings, we didn’t have anything handed to us, so the idea of working hard was a privilege and was something there was pride in, like, I can and I will do this.”

Rodriguez credits her mother for the confidence she possesses in empowering young women and Latinas.

“I used to hear my mom say, ‘Cream always rises to the top, Gina, be patient, they just need to see you,’” she recalled. “I would be like, ‘I’m not pretty enough, I’m not tall enough’ and she’d say, ‘You’re exactly who you’re supposed to be; you’re enough. Just let people see it.’ Now I can talk to more girls and tell them that any skin color, any economic background, any shape they were born into is perfect and right and strong and beautiful and enough because I’m sitting here not the stereotype. The cream rises to the top.”

The actress said she can relate to her character, Jane.

“What’s beautiful about Jane is that she has chosen the unpopular choice in life,” Rodriguez said. “It’s very popular to have sex and do drugs and rock ‘n’ roll, but it’s not very popular to say, ‘No, not for me. You do it, I’m fine. Nobody has walked that course yet, but I can try.’ And that’s Jane and that’s me.”

  • Gina Rodriguez: On “Jane The Virgin” And Why She Won’t Play A Maid On TV

Gina Rodriguez’s leading role in Jane the Virgin has granted the 29-year-old actress a wonderful opportunity.

Her role as Jane Villanueva will give viewers a look into Latino heritage and culture. At the same time, the show is said to avoid many of the stereotypes typically attributed to Latino roles on American television.

When stripped of common stereotypes, what’s left is a relatable teenage girl who finds herself in a most extraordinary situation.

The premise of the show is taken from a Venezuelan telenovela, which has the main character accidentally inseminated during a trip to the hospital.

The catch is that she’s still a virgin.

The show will touch on cultural pressures about sex and virginity and it promises to be a breath of fresh air for the CW network.

Everything else on the schedule is monsters, magic, and superheroes.

This comedy may not fit in with the rest of the CW roster, but it is one of this year’s most talked about new fall shows.

Religious groups are already condemning the series, which has yet to air. Some Roman Catholics claimed it was a television show “about abortion”.

The network hopes more open-minded viewers tune in.

As for Rodriguez, she is no doubt hoping Jane the Virgin will represent the beginning of a slew of non-stereotypical roles for Latina actresses like herself.

Said Rodriguez, “I didn’t want to do a show about maids because there are other stories to be told about Latinos.”

She then added, “I know all the women on Devious Maids and I love and support and wish them only the best. [Being a maid on TV] just wasn’t my dream.”
