  • Eli Manning Sued over Bogus Memorabilia

It’s a tough week for Eli Manning. Not only does he have to watch America swoon over his older brother as Peyton takes his Denver Broncos to the Super Bowl, now he’s being sued for allegedly passing off bogus memorabilia.

A lawsuit filed in New Jersey on Wednesday claims that several New York Giants players have routinely passed off new jerseys and helmets to collectors and dealers, fronting them as authentic “game worn” items. The complaint even alleges that the Manning helmet from Eli’s 2008 Super Bowl win currently on display at the Pro Football Hall of Fame is bogus.

Named in the filing are are Manning, the Giants, Inc., CEO John Mara, team lawyer William Heller, CFO Christine Procops, locker room manager Ed Wagner Jr., and equipment managers Joe and Ed Skiba, and the team’s dry cleaner. Yes, the dry cleaner, Barry Barone, who has worked for the team since 1982. Barone is alleged to have used his dry cleaning equipment to age jerseys and other items of clothing, going so far as cutting them with scissors and repairing them to heighten the illusion of authenticity.

The suit even has a smoking gun. In an exchange between memorabilia dealer Eric Inselberg and Joe Skiba, Inselberg asks, “Hey Joe, my buddy was offered an eli game used helmet and jersey. Are these the bs ones eli asked you to make up because he didnt want to give up the real stuff?” Skiba, replying from his official Giants email address, responded, “BS ones, you are correct.” Maybe that was Skiba being sarcastic—he may certainly claim so in court—but someone should remind him that sarcasm doesn’t always come across in an email.

Other alleged forgeries include several Manning jerseys, two 2012 Super Bowl helmets, and a 2004 rookie season Manning helmet. Manning himself allegedly conspired in the scam so that he could hang on to his personal items.

Earlier today, a Giants spokesperson attacked the filing, saying, “this suit is completely without any merit whatsoever and we will defend it vigorously. We will not otherwise comment on pending litigation.” Eli Manning has so far declined to make any comment.

  • New York Giants, Who’s To Blame?

The New York Giants had much promise and hope before the season started. The string of five losses for the 2013 season has dampened some of the enthusiasm for fans. The following video shows an overview of anticipated player performance considering both the offense and defense prior to the start of the season.

The team is filled with talented players where the performance for the season has been baffling. Though many can critique individual players or point fingers at the team’s dynamics, Prince Amukamar offered his own insight.

Prince Amukamara, the cornerback for the team, spoke about the lack of cohesion the team has experienced during games.

“I mean the energy before we go out to the game, it seems like everybody is all in. It seems like we’re about to go out and do something special, but all three phases of the team have to play together and it doesn’t look like we did that [referring to game against the Eagles]. It didn’t look like we finished,” Amukamara said.

The following video shows a critique of the New York Giants where the plausibility of Coach Coughlin remaining for another season is debated.

The Giants coach, Tom Coughlin, echoed Amukamara’s sentiments about the team not working as one collective unit while admitting that the head coach does ultimately receive the responsibility (and blame) when the team loses.

“I know that we’re maligning my quarterback today and believe me, there’s a bunch of people involved in that. Those things don’t happen just one on one now. It’s a team concept. Whether you have a pressure situation, whether you have somebody that comes loose in front of him and he tries to move, whether the receiver doesn’t do what he’s supposed to do, whether people don’t come back for the ball whatever it is. It’s a team game, and yes, the head coach is the guy that’s responsible for the losses, and the players need to be there for each other in all circumstances and in this one, criticizing the quarterback for the outcome for everything there at the end of the game really is not right,” Coughlin said.

  • Michael Strahan: Real Estate Agent?

Michael Strahan is known for his career in the NFL as a hard-hitting, bone-crushing, quarterback-nightmare-inducing defensive end for the New York Giants. Since he retired in 2007, Strahan has brought his talents to the television airwaves, becoming a co-host of “Fox NFL Sunday” and now co-hosting “Live! with Kelly and Michael”, taking the place of Regis Philbin. Strahan is also listed as the executive producer of a new Amazon comedy, “The Outlaws”.

With his recent actions, however, Strahan may be able to add real estate agent to his list of professions. Strahan’s potential new career first showed promise when he sold his Bel Air home for $11 million earlier this year, making a $3.9 million profit from its $7.9 million purchase-price.

After selling his home, Strahan and fiancee Nicole Murphy (former wife of Eddie Murphy) decided to rent a $20 million mansion in Beverly Hills as their temporary abode.

Now that Strahan works in ABC’s New York studios on a daily basis, he has seemingly decided it would be a good idea to purchase real estate a bit closer. The latest dabble into the real estate market by Strahan has been his interest in purchasing a $25 million New York City penthouse. The apartment, a condo in the One Lincoln Square building, sits very near his current workplace. The building is currently home to such famous figures as Eagles bassist Timothy Schmit, MTV founder Bob Pittman, and world-renowned broadcaster Marv Albert. Strahan’s predecessor, Regis Philbin, also lives in a building next-door.

The condo itself is 5,500 square feet with 10 rooms, 5 of those being bedrooms.

Money should be of no issue in regards to acquiring the property. Strahan’s current net-worth is $30 million dollars, and all projections would have that figure climbing higher due to his media success. However, to put the price of the condo in perspective, with a 20% down payment and a 30 year fixed mortgage, Strahan’s monthly mortgage will be $121,266. It’s a number nearly impossible to fathom.

Strahan’s chances to acquire the apartment will be drastically increased if he is successful in selling his Tribeca condo. Strahan originally put the apartment on the market in 2009 for $1.85 and had no luck in completing a sale. Instead of taking the logical approach and lowering the price, Strahan decided to bump up the price another $400,000 to $2.25 million. Perhaps this unconventional style is the key to Strahan’s success?

Whatever he chooses, Strahan needs to act fast. Movie star Bradley Cooper is apparently also interested in the apartment, and we all know how Limitless his financial abilities are.

  • Dodgers Fan Dies After Parking Lot Knife-Fight

A disagreement became violent between several Dodgers/Giants fans on Wednesday night after the game at AT&T Park, and now a 24-year old man is dead.

Authorities say they believe at least ten people were involved in the altercation and have detained three of those; sadly, Dodgers fan Jonathan Denver was pronounced dead at San Francisco General Hospital from stab wounds. Police say they aren’t sure yet whether the fact that Denver was a Dodgers fan played a role in the altercation.

The violent incident happened just days after a three-day fundraiser for Giants fan Bryan Stow, who suffered severe head injuries in 2011 after a brutal fight following a game in L.A. Even after rehabilitation, Stow–a father of two–was left with physical issues and memory loss.

Due to the tragic death, officials are debating adding extra security to tonight’s game.

“We’re obviously very concerned about the situation and trying to understand exactly what happened,” Giants spokesperson Staci Slaughter said.

  • Banana Toss Apology: Giants Fan Says It Wasn’t Racial

A Giants fan who threw a banana at an Orioles player has apologized and says it was completely misconstrued.

Alexander Poulides says that he did throw a banana at Orioles center fielder Adam Jones but that it wasn’t racially motivated at all, but rather a commentary on his team’s performance after they got beaten 10-2.

“I’m embarrassed and shocked by the outcome,” Poulides told the Mercury News. “In hindsight, I wish I didn’t do it and I apologize. I’m very sorry.”

Reps for the Giants released a statement of their own before Poulides accepted responsibility for the incident, saying, “We were extremely disappointed to learn about the incident involving Adam Jones at AT&T Park yesterday. The Giants have a zero tolerance policy against this type of behavior, which results in immediate ejection from the ballpark. While we have been investigating the matter since we learned of the situation, unfortunately we have been unable to identify the person responsible. We would like to extend our sincerest apologies to Adam and the entire Orioles organization for this unfortunate incident. The inappropriate actions of this individual in no way reflect the values of our organization and our fans.”

While the choice of food thrown at an African-American player was an unfortunate one, Jones says he’s more concerned about the safety aspect of the incident and the fact that anything was thrown onto the field.

“I personally don’t have no hard feelings about it. It’s just an unfortunate thing that happened,” Jones said. “You never know what kind of things can be thrown at a player. Our backs are turned. You never know what can be thrown in our direction. I just look at it as a safety issue. When my back is turned, I don’t know what is going on there, so we just look at it as a liability. Whatever certain object it was, I could care less. I’ve got a bigger concern on my head than someone’s ignorance or act of whatever.”

  • Ahmad Bradshaw Gets MRI For Neck Injury

Ahmad Bradshaw was one of three Giants with injuries sufficient to take him off the field and out of the game on Sunday, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed on Twitter that the running back would undergo an MRI today on his neck.

The string of injuries didn’t stop the team from defeating the Tampa Bay Bucs, however, earning them a 41-34 win despite the loss of tackle David Diehl and wide receiver Domenik Hixson.

Bradshaw was given X-Rays after leaving the game in the second quarter and was strong enough to stand for them while being given basic motor function tests, but doctors are erring on the side of caution and ordered an MRI for today. It’s likely Schefter will update his Twitter feed when any news is available.

  • Aubrey Huff On Temporary Leave For Anxiety

With 40 million Americans suffering from some form of anxiety disorder, it shouldn’t be cause for embarrassment; but when you’re in the public eye, things are a little different.

Giants first baseman Aubrey Huff has discovered that firsthand, as he’s now on the 15-day disabled list while he deals with some personal issues.

Team manager Bruce Bochy says they’ve helped arrange for Huff to get treatment for the disorder, which has taken a toll on him recently due to some mistakes on the field and a stressful divorce. He went home to rest on Monday after an embarrassing mistake in Saturday’s game against the Mets, accidentally running toward first base instead of second on a double play and costing his team the win.

Huff’s teammates say they weren’t aware of any problems, as they know him as the laid-back guy who keeps everyone happy in the clubhouse. The news that he’s going through some rough times is both a surprise and a cause for worry.

“He seemed normal,” fellow first baseman Brandon Belt said. “He didn’t mention anything wrong. The team is worried about him. We all texted him to let him know we’re here for him if he needs us.”

  • Matt Cain Becomes Richest Right Hander In MLB History

Matt Cain of the San Francisco Giants has signed a 5 year $112.5 million contract extension that will keep him in the black and orange through the 2017 season. The deal is the largest in history for a right hander destroying the previous high of $105 million signed by Kevin Brown in 1998.

The guaranteed money includes a $5 million signing bonus and a $7.5 million buyout in 2018. That year has a player vesting option for $21 million. Cain’s option would become guaranteed if he pitches 200 innings in 2017 or 400 innings combined in 2016-17 and is not on the disabled list at the end of the 2017 season for a right elbow or right shoulder injury. If it does not become guaranteed, it would be a team option.

“Ensuring that Matt remained a Giant beyond this season was a top priority for the organization. Matt is an integral part of the team whose performance on the mound will be one of the keys to our success for years to come,” Giants General Manager Brian Sabean said in a statement Monday.

“The success of our franchise depends on developing and retaining homegrown talent like Matt Cain,” Giants president Larry Baer said. “I want to commend Brian Sabean, Bobby Evans, Matt and his representatives for their hard work to keep Matt in the orange and black. This is an exciting day for Giants fans everywhere and a fantastic way to kick off the 2012 season.”

Matt Cain has a lifetime ERA of 3.35 with 1085 strikeouts and 473 walks in 1317.1 innings pitched. He has a War of 23.4 which is the second highest in the majors since 2006.

New York Post Celebrates Super Bowl Win

What do you do when your team wins the Super Bowl? You would usually jump in a celebratory “hooray” and then go on with your business.

The New York Post sees things differently. It wants the world to know that their city won the Super Bowl tonight. How did they do that? They covered their entire front page in New York Giants.

It’s not my place to judge any Web site on how they design their front page, but this just seems a little excessive. At least they have pride in their team. That’s the most important thing.

  • Two Point Safety Throws Off All Bets At Super Bowl

Two Point Safety Throws Off All Bets At Super Bowl

You probably weren’t expecting the Giants to pull off a two-point safety this early in the game, were you?

The Giants defied the odds pushing their score up to nine so early in the game. The Pats have to fight back hard to make up for that gutsy play. They were able to score a field goal putting their score at three, but still a ways to go.

A lot of people in Vegas had money on final scores in the game and two-point safety will most likely throw that off. The game is already looking to be far more interesting than previously thought.
