  • World’s Tallest Dog is Grieved by Thousands

Thousands of people have expressed their condolences on Facebook and Twitter for the lovable Great Dane, Giant George, who passed away on Thursday. He was one month shy of turning eight. George was a major dog celebrity who appeared on, “Good Morning America,” “Live with Regis and Kelly” and “The Oprah Winefry Show.” The blue-eyed Dane was so popular, in fact, that owner David Nasser published a book about the day to day experiences of living with such an enormous dog, “Giant George: Life with the World’s Biggest Dog.”

Surprisingly George was the runt of the litter. In 2010, the Guinness Book of World Records confirmed that the Great Dane was the tallest dog ever. George weighed in at 245 pounds and was five feet tall and seven feet long.

Mr. Nasser is trying to get through his grief by remembering the good times, in an interview with ABC news, he confessed, “I couldn’t have been talking to you four days ago, I would have been a crying ball. But now the good memories are starting to come to the surface. After a week, I am starting to think of all the fun times we had, and it’s much, much easier.”

Nasser stated that George has received about 13,000 comments from people who are also grieving the death of the giant Great Dane. The Nasser Family is an advocate for local and national animal shelters and charities. They are encouraging people to help out in any they can through George’s website and Facebook page. In his short life, George has received tens of thousands of fans on Facebook and his Youtube video hits are in the millions.

Will there be another dog in the Nasser family future? It looks like it’s going to take some time because the Nasser’s are in the grieving phase and have two young kids, Mr. Nasser said, “We just need time to mourn George’s loss. I think we’ll evaluate six months or a year down the road.”

World’s Tallest Dog Dies at Age 7

The world’s tallest dog, known as Giant George, passed away last week, according to a Facebook post by his owners.

George’s owners, David and Christine Nasser, wrote the sad news on their Facebook page, “Greetings from the Rainbow Bridge”. “It is with a heavy heart that we announce Giant George died last night,” they wrote. “George passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones; one month before his eighth birthday.”

They continued their post by thanking all of George’s friends and family for their love and support. “We appreciate the love and support you have given Giant George over the last several years,” they wrote. “We look forward to honoring his spirit by continuing his charitable works. Giant George was verified as the World’s Tallest Dog by Guinness World Records on February 15, 2010. Despite being the runt of a litter of 13 puppies, George grew to an amazing size, reaching 7 foot from the tip of his nose to the end of his tail.

Jamie Panas, the Guinness spokesperson was in awe of George’s size. “He’s just the sweetest, kindest dog, and he doesn’t realize what all the hoopla is about,” she said. “I was completely awestruck. Working here, I meet different record holders of all unique sizes, and I was definitely taken aback by his size.”

George made his way to fame appearing on national television shows including “Oprah”, “Live with Regis and Kelly”, and “Good Morning America”.
