  • Lena Headey Expecting Her Second Child

Lena Headey Expecting Her Second Child

Lena Headey is putting rumors to rest as she confirms that it is, indeed, a baby bump that she is sporting.

The actress, who plays the scheming Cersei Lannister in the immensely popular show, Game of Thrones, is already a mother to her son, Wylie, who is almost five.

Lena Headey, 41, had Wylie with musician Peter Loughran, whom she divorced in 2013.

The father of Lena Headey’s new baby is not yet known, and it may not be for some time.

The very private actress is calling for just that. Privacy.

She announced, via People, “I’m happy to confirm that I’m having my second child this summer.”

She added, “I only hope that this announcement can help me to regain some of the privacy I have recently lost to prying photographers and ask that they please respect my privacy and let me enjoy this time.”

We will see Lena Headey in season five of Game of Thrones, where there are sure to be some surprising twists.

Author George R.R. Martin was on hand at the Writers Guild West Awards to talk about the show, and what he said of the new season was completely unexpected. He said, “People are going to die who don’t die in the books, so even the book readers will be unhappy.”

He added, “So everybody better be on their toes. David and D.B. [David Benioff and D.B. Weiss co-creators of Game Of Thrones] are even bloodier than I am.”

Such an exciting time for Lena Headey!

What do you think of Lena Headey’s baby news and of the surprising Game of Thrones revelation from George R.R. Martin?

  • Milla Jovovich To Star In George R. R. Martin Film

Milla Jovovich is reportedly in final talks to star in In the Lost Lands, a movie based on a collection of short stories by Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin.

Milla Jovovich will play a witch, Gray Alys, who travels into lost lands, at the behest of a queen, to learn how to shape-shift into a werewolf.

There are three stories tied up in In the Lost Lands.

Milla Jovovich’s witch story is one. Another is a lady warrior who must battle a dragon to be with her love interest.

A third is a little more outlandish. That one features a barbarian girl who is enticed by a witch in a spacecraft.

Milla Jovovich is absolutely wonderful in everything, and this is sure to be no exception.

George R. R. Martin is pretty excited to have her on board.

He said of Milla Jovovich, “It’s a thrill to have her be a part of this, and I will look forward to seeing her bring Gray Alys to life. (Maybe I will be so inspired that I’ll finally write those other Gray Alys stories… but no, not until I finish A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE, calm down, friends).”

The film is being produced by Steve Hoban, Oliver Luer and Nico Bruinsma and will be directed by Constantin Werner.

The visual effects house that will create George R. R. Martin’s worlds will be Pixomondo. They have also done visual effects for Game of Thrones, The Hunger Games, and Snow White and the Huntsman.

Into the Lost Lands will also star Justin Chatwin of Shameless.

Are you thrilled to see Milla Jovovich in action again?

  • George R.R. Martin Finally Joins Twitter, Where He Can Continue to Screw with Characters

You favorite beetle-crusher, A Song of Ice And Fire author George R.R. Martin, has finally joined the world of Twitter. He immediately slew about 80 characters.

Even though he used his first tweet to announce his lack of commitment to Twitter, the inspiration for HBO’s smash hit Game of Thrones somehow racked up over 3,600 retweets. You’re pretty popular on the web, there, George.

But seriously, don’t expect GRRM to be tweeting hints about upcoming scenes or anything. He’s probably not going to tweet very often:

It is nice, however, to have an official GRRM presence on Twitter, where his novels and the subsequent TV show completely dominate discussion (especially on Sunday nights). There are already a ton of George R.R. Martin parody accounts, some of which have 30,000, 40,000, and even 70,000+ followers. Martin joined the Twittersphere just a few days before the premiere of the Game of Thrones season 4 finale.

When GRRM asks you to check out his live journal page, he’s more than serious. That page is really the only online resource he bothers to keep up. We’re talking about a guy who still writes everything on a DOS machine, using WordStar – Twitter’s probably not that big of a priority.

Really, though, do you want GRRM spending all his time on Twitter, posting #tbt tweets? No, of course not. You want him sitting behind that DOS computer, finishing this great saga that has quickly turned into an international obsession.

As it stands, GRRM only has that one tweet and only follows 17 people – mostly GoT cast members. He has, however, amassed over 84,000 followers in less than two days.

  • George R.R. Martin Writes Everything on a DOS Machine Because Spell Check Is a Huge Pain in the Ass

While many of us can’t imagine composing a single sentence without the help of modern spell check technology, A Song of Ice And Fire author George R.R. Martin actively avoids it.

In fact, he recently revealed to Conan O’Brien that he constructs the world of Westeros on a DOS machine, using WordStar 4.0.

    Yeah, GRRM is old school.

Well, at least when it comes to writing epic fantasy novels.

“I actually have two computers,” he said. “I have the computer that I browse the internet with, and I get my email on, and then I do my taxes on…and then I have my writing computer, which is a DOS machine. I use WordStar 4.0 as my word processing system.”

“I actually like it,” he continued. “It does everything I want a word processing program to do and it doesn’t do anything else.”

GRRM has a point. If you’re writing 1000-page novels filled with character names like Daenerys Targaryen, do you really want Google Docs trying to help?

So, WordStar 4.0 huh. Something about writing on that cold, black screen makes it seem even more cruel when GRRM kills off your favorite character. Everything is so bleak. All men must die, but 30-year-old word processors can live forever.

  • Game Of Thrones: Town Changes Name For DVD Release

All of you Game of Thrones fans will find this interesting. As you probably know, the Game of Thrones DVD is scheduled to be released on February 18. To coincide with the release, a British town called Kings Langley, that is located in located in the county of Hertfordshire just outside of London, will be renamed after the HBO series’ capital city of Kings Landing for a week in February.

Shortly before the release of the DVD, HBO will be launching the fourth season of the medieval fantasy series, and the producer and writer of the show, hope to bring attention to, and promote, the series. George R.R. Martin gave E! News some insight on what we can expect in the coming season.

“We have a big battle that the wonderful Neil Marshall that did the Battle of Blackwater back to direct, that’s very exciting for me,” Martin said. “We have another Royal Wedding, this one is not red; this one is a different color. We have the introduction of some great new characters. We finally introduce one of the most popular characters from the books: Prince Oberon Martell,” he reveals. “The Red Viper of Dorne will be introduced for the first time and there will be some other new characters that I think the fans will like. The Wildlings are continuing to move toward the wall. We’ll see many of the characters, we’ll see what happens to Tyrion and Cersei and Jaime and all of the remaining Starks, the few that are left and hopefully it will be another great season.”

  • ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Author Tops Top-Earner List

Very few people become an author to make money, and those who do often rake in a modest sum that allows them to work on their next project. The Forbes list of top-earning authors of 2013 is not filled with those people.

It is no shocker that the top earner for this year is “Fifty Shades of Grey” author E.L. James, who took home an estimated $95 million last year on the back of her highly controversial novel and its sequels. That’s not too shabby for a book that started out as “Twilight” fan-fiction and contains some of the most inadvertently hilarious sex scenes in the history of literature.

In claiming the top spot James was able to dethrone James Patterson. Patterson, who is known for his thrillers, is known for his high output and equally high sales numbers. It is estimated that 1 in every 17 books sold in the United States was written by him.

“Hunger Games” author Suzanne Collins rounds out the top three at $55 million, followed by a surprising appearance by political pundit Bill O’Reilly at $28 million.

“Harry Potter” creator J.K. Rowling slid into the 15th spot with $13 million thanks to her forays into the adult lit world, “The Casual Vacancy” and “The Cuckoo’s Calling”. One spot behind her on the list is the brain behind “Game of Thrones,” George R.R. Martin at $12 million.

While the authors on the list may not be producing works that will go down as great works of literature, at least people are still reading enough to help them sell books.

  • Amazon Launches Jet City Comics, Will Reprint George R. R. Martin’s Comics

You’re never spoiled for choice when it comes to comic publishers, but it is pretty hard to compete on the level of DC and Marvel. Amazon thinks it has what it takes, however, with its new imprint.

Amazon Publishing announced today the launch of Jet City Comics. It’s a new imprint dedicated to comics and graphic novels from some of the world’s best authors. Case in point – Amazon has managed to get George R. R. Martin on board with reprints of his old comics as well as a new adaptation of one his most celebrated short stories.

“My fans have been clamoring for the return of Dunk & Egg ever since the graphic novels of ‘The Hedge Knight’ and ‘The Sworn Sword’ went out of print several years ago,” said author George R. R. Martin, “so I am delighted to announce that Jet City Comics is bringing them back—newly formatted for digital readers, and in paper for those who still prefer the traditional formats. And Jet City will be bringing you something new as well: the graphic novel ‘Meathouse Man,’ adapted from one of my strangest, darkest, and most twisted short stories by the amazingly talented Raya Golden. I’m pleased and excited to be a part of Jet City’s takeoff. May they fly high.”

Martin isn’t the only big name Amazon has managed to snag for its first foray into comic publishing. Readers can also look forward to new comics based on novels by Hugh Howey and Neal Stephenson:

An adaptation of Hugh Howey’s bestselling dystopian novel Wool by comics veterans Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray, and illustrator Jimmy Broxton, where the remnants of humanity live in a massive silo hundreds of stories below the surface of the ruined and toxic landscape of Earth. Wool was a #1 bestseller in the Kindle store and is one of the most-reviewed science fiction novels on Amazon, with almost 6,000 customer reviews. It will be released as a Kindle Serial, as six individual comics issues starting in October 2013, followed by a collected graphic novel in 2014.

Six original comics from The Foreworld Saga, the bestselling alternate history series that began with The Mongoliad (a serialized novel collaboratively written Neal Stephenson, Greg Bear, Mark Teppo, Nicole Galland, Erik Bear, Joseph Brassey and Cooper Moo). The first Foreworld comic, “Symposium #1” by author Christian Cameron and Illustrator Dmitry Bondarenko, details the origins of the Shield-Brethren in Ancient Greece in the days following Athens crushing defeat to Sparta in 394 BC. It goes on-sale today, with new installments releasing monthly before being collected in a series of graphic novels in 2014.

“It’s a dream to work with superstar authors like George, Hugh and Neal on the launch of a new imprint,” said Alex Carr, Senior Editor of Jet City Comics. “Millions of fans have read and loved their novels, and with Jet City we look forward to opening up these iconic worlds to new audiences. We’re working with an incredible, hand-picked team of comics professionals, writers, artists, and translators, who have done an amazing job developing and expanding these inventive stories. I’m looking forward to the response from comics readers and fans.”

As you can probably already tell, Jet City Comics will be focused on comic adaptations of book series. It doesn’t appear that Amazon is getting into original characters just yet, and that’s perfectly acceptable. Selling a new character is hard these days, especially in comics. Amazon would be wise to stick to recognizable worlds and characters for its first foray into the highly competitive, but still relatively niche, world of comics.

As for availability, it looks like single issues will only be sold as digital downloads via Kindle. The press release says that print editions will be available, but it doesn’t clarify if it will print single issues alongside graphic novels. We’ve reached out to Amazon for clarification and will update if we hear back.

UPDATE: Amazon Publishing provided us with the following statement:

Jet City Comics will publish in print and digital formats, as single-issue comics and collected graphic novels. Print issues will be made available for comic book stores and other physical retailers to carry.
