Yahoo Infographic Gives A Bunch of Native Advertising Stats

Yahoo dropped a bunch of native advertising stats from Gemini for 2015, particularly in third-party mobile apps.

All Gemini mobile ads are native, while half of its desktop ads are. According to the company, December saw over 200 billion Gemini native ad requests on third party mobile apps, accounting for over half of Gemini’s display impressions.

  • Yahoo Has BrightRoll and Gemini News

Yahoo Has BrightRoll and Gemini News

With Advertising Week in full swing, there’s a ton of ad-related news coming out from the big players. Yahoo announced some updates to its ad tech portfolio, which it says brings together the strengths of Yahoo, BrightRoll, and Flurry into one offering that “simplifies the overall experience of digital advertising.”

Yahoo acquired BrightRoll in December, and is now calling it its new, unified brand for programmatic ad tech, offering a suite of tools to help advertisers, publishers, and partners.

“As one of the leading programmatic advertising technology offerings in the marketplace, BrightRoll powers digital advertising for 99 of the AdAge Top 100 advertisers and half of the comScore Top 50 publishers,” the company says.

“The BrightRoll DSP drives efficient programmatic buying for video, display and native advertising, leveraging exclusive access to Yahoo data and unique insights from one billion people and 165 billion daily data events to target the right audience,” it adds. “The BrightRoll Exchange seamlessly connects buyers and sellers of high-quality video and display inventory, including Yahoo properties and other premium publishers. The exchange is integrated with 100 DSPs and enables access to thousands of sites and apps via RTB, private marketplaces and programmatic direct.”

Yahoo also has news for Gemini in that it has a new custom audience feature letting advertisers utilize their own data alongside Yahoo data for retargeting.

They also launched the Yahoo Preferred Partner Program for advertisers to connect with ad tech and service providers like Acquisio, ChannelAdvisor, Dealer.com, DrivenLocal, Fiksu, Kenshoo, Marin Software, Sprinklr and Tealium. Partners are selected via the Yahoo Gemini Certification Program.

  • Yahoo Launches Mobile Developer Suite

    Yahoo Launches Mobile Developer Suite

Yahoo kicked off its first Mobile Developer Conference on Thursday, introducing a new mobile developer suite.

“Designed to help developers understand, measure, advertise, monetize, and enhance their apps, the suite includes five new products, including Flurry Analytics Explorer, Yahoo App Publishing, Yahoo App Marketing, Yahoo Search in Apps, and Flurry Pulse,” a spokesperson for Yahoo tells WebProNews. “The Mobile Developer Suite is an important step in Yahoo’s evolution to a truly mobile-first company, and demonstrates the company’s commitment to its growth businesses – mobile, video, native and social.”

Yahoo calls Flurry Analytics Explorer an update on the current Flurry Analytics, which lets developers answer more complex questions, and includes an easy-to-use data exploration interface.

Flurry Pulse, Yahoo says, makes it easy for developers to share app signals with partners using existing Flurry SDK implementations.

“With the same tools that we use to successfully monetize our own apps, developers can now monetize their apps with high-quality native, video and display ads using the combined capabilities of Yahoo Gemini, BrightRoll and Flurry,” says Prashant Fuloria, SVP Advertising Products. “This combination offers developers the most engaging, seamless, beautiful advertising experience for users and the most effective advertising formats to monetize their apps.”

The Yahoo Search in Apps offering makes it easier for developers to integrate Yahoo Search into their apps to let users search the web. The company says this opens up a new monetization channel for developers.

“With the power of Yahoo Gemini, one of the fastest growing native and mobile search marketplaces, developers can efficiently acquire new users, grow engagement and track results,” says Fuloria. “Developers can buy targeted native and video advertising across Yahoo’s network of premium content, Tumblr and thousands of mobile apps. Through Yahoo App Marketing, developers can use just one platform to gain exposure to an enormous audience of highly engaged and active users across desktop, mobile and social.”

Yahoo says over a thousand mobile developers are in attendance at the conference.

  • Yahoo To Announce New Ad Platform For Flurry [Report]

Yahoo is reportedly planning on launching a self-serve ad platform that would enable marketers to advertise across Flurry, the mobile app network it acquired last year.

This is according to a report from The Information, which says:

In the past few months, the company has been aggressively hiring for its mobile ads team ahead of a planned revamp of its ad products in the first half of the year. Yahoo plans to give advertisers a self-service platform to place ads on apps that are using its Flurry publisher network, according to a source familiar with the matter and another briefed on it.

The move could help revitalize Yahoo’s display ad business, which is not performing as well as its search ad business as of Q3.

Yahoo recently announced its first developer conference, which is to take place on February 19. The new platform is expected to be announced at this event.

“At the conference, Yahoo will announce and demo a new suite of products to help developers better understand their users and improve, grow and monetize their apps,” the company said last month.

Simon Khalaf, VP of Flurry products, is to be the featured speaker, and will give a “State of Mobile” address.

For the new platform, Yahoo will reportedly be combining Flurry with its Gemini mobile ad buying platform.

  • Yahoo Adds App Install Ads To Gemini

Yahoo announced that app install ads are now available through Gemini, the ad marketplace the company launched earlier this year.

Advertisers in the United States with managed accounts can use Gemini to promote apps across the Yahoo network with the new ads. They reach 550 million monthly mobile users on Yahoo, Yahoo mobile web sites, Tumblr, Yahoo apps like Yahoo News Digest, Yahoo Weather, Yahoo Sports and Yahoo Finance, and premium content sites through Yahoo Recommends.

“It can be hard to set your app apart from the millions of other apps available today,” Yahoo says in a blog post. “Yahoo Gemini combines the power of high quality content, audience targeting and native ads to help ensure your app stands out among the rest. Whether you’re a big retailer trying to get consumers to use your branded app, or you’re a developer looking to reach new users for your game, Yahoo Gemini app install ads are an easy-to-use solution for promoting apps. On one simple, user-friendly UI, advertisers can use Yahoo Gemini to easily set up, manage and monitor app install campaigns.”

“With app install ads available through Yahoo Gemini, in addition to the Flurry mobile app analytics suite, Yahoo now supplies brands and developers with many of the tools they need to help make their apps successful, including targeted user acquisition and best-in-class insights and measurement,” the company adds.

Yahoo counts SeatGeek among its first advertisers for the app install ads.
