  • Sara Evans Set for Seventh Album Release

Sara Evans Set for Seventh Album Release

Sara Evans will release her seventh album this coming week–her first in almost three years. Called Slow Me Down, the record features eleven songs, one of which–the title track, actually–is one of the best country singles for 2013. It hit number 28 on the ‘Hot Country Songs’ list of hits.

Evans covers a Gavin DeGraw tune called Not Over You on the new album, and in addition to these two songs listeners will find a compilation including everything from down home country to some drama.

Put My Heart Down belies its catchy chorus, as it is all about saying goodbye. If you think of the melody but not the words you might even convince yourself you’ve got a feel good tune on your hands.

Can’t Stop Loving You features some hints at rock music by Isaac Slade of The Fray and perfectly balances out Sara Evans’s country twang.

Vince Gill pairs with Evans in Better Off, and that may be the catalyst to this song soaring up the country music charts as well. The two together are an impressive combination of country talent.

“Having Isaac, Gavin and Vince sing with me, was an amazing experience and they took those songs to another level,” Evans said of working with all three of these musicians on Slow Me Down.

Sara served as coproducer of her latest release, alongside Mark Bright, who is known for his work with country music greats like Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire and Rascal Flatts.

“I just love him,” Evans said of Bright. “I really wanted Mark’s type of personality and production on this. He’s always so bright and chipper and is there to give support, direction and his expertise. Plus he’s such a great song guy.”

Sara has had several events this past week celebrating the upcoming album release.

Will you be checking out Sara Evans’s new album, Slow Me Down, when it goes on sale this coming week? It sounds like it’s a sure bet–and not just for country music lovers either. It definitely sounds like there’s a little something for everyone on this new release.

  • Gavin DeGraw’s New Album Getting Positive Reviews

Gavin DeGraw has penned some very catchy songs in recent years; from “I Don’t Wanna Be” to “Chariot”, his are the songs we find ourselves singing along to while enjoying some very deft piano-playing. His albums aren’t full of songs about love and lost love; rather, he mixes in lyrics about the questions we all ask ourselves at one time or another, big life changes, and soul-searching. And while his new album–Make A Move–is said to stay fairly close to the formulas he’s used before, the songs are getting some positive reviews by critics.

Move doesn’t stray far from his “I Don’t Want to Be” formula — it’s steeped in intricate piano hooks and his seductive, gravelly voice. But the title track is terrific, as is “Who’s Gonna Save Us,” wrote critic Henry Goldblatt. DeGraw says he used to be very uptight about writing music with other people, but ultimately opened up to it and has seen a lot of success with those songs; his fourth album includes some “autobiographical” songs, as well as tunes he wrote with OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder.

DeGraw recently performed “The Best I Ever Had” on “Today”, showcasing his talent for live performances and giving audiences a preview of the new album’s sound, which fans of Mumford & Sons might appreciate for the foot-stomping beats and heartfelt sentiment.

  • Gavin DeGraw Loses to Jaleel White – DWTS Dance Duel

In last night’s (Tuesday, April 17th) Dancing With the Stars Season 14 results show, America’s #1 dancing reality show introduced something that has never been done in the fourteen seasons it has been on the air, a dance duel. The purpose of this newly integrated dance duel is for the bottom two couples to dance off against each other on the stage at the same time. This event is seen as a “second chance” to impress the judges with their moves and to prove why they should be remaining in the competition. The judges will be heavily critiquing the dance choreography and technique during the duel.

With last night’s first ever dance duel, the bottom two couples (designed by judge scores and viewer votes) were singer Gavin DeGraw with partner his Karina Smirnoff, along with actor/comedian Jaleel White and his partner Kym Johnson. The couples danced a Cha Cha to the song “Edge of Glory” by Lady GaGa at the same time, and were shown on a split screen so that the viewers can compare the couples side by side. To see last night’s dance duel, I have provided a YouTube video of the event below.

From my observations, Jaleel and Kym delivered a stronger Cha Cha performance than Gavin and Karina, included more content, and Jaleel also demonstrated quality Latin hip action that is a must-have in Cha Cha. The judges saw these characteristics as well and awarded Jaleel and Kym to return next week, rendering Gavin and Karina this week’s couple to go home.

The Twitter community has been active with mixed reactions pertaining to the outcome of this dance duel:

  • Gavin Degraw Still In DWTS Game; Dancing Is In His Blood

Singer Gavin Degraw and his partner Karina Smirnoff ended up in the bottom two on last night’s episode of “Dancing With The Stars”, and made it through by the skin of their teeth as tennis champ Martina Navratilova was sent home with a score of 17 to Degraw’s 21.

With a 50’s-esque jive dance, the duo wowed the judges with their energy but all three said Degraw could have worked on his kicks a little better.

Martina and partner Tony Dovolani started off a little slow and had several timing issues which were ultimately their downfall.

Degraw tweeted about the decision, calling Navratilova a “true champion”.

None of us got any pleasure seeing Martina leave the show last night. She’s a TRUE CHAMPION for always seeking new challenges.#dwts #honored(image) 5 hours ago via WhoSay ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

Twitter users are in support of Gav:

In a recent interview with Us Weekly, Degraw lists 25 things people probably don’t know about him, such as the fact that dancing is in his blood:

“My great-grandpa Burnsie taught dirty dancing in the Catskills back in the day, just like Patrick Swayze.”

His new album, “Sweeter”, is now available.
