You Can’t Find A 24-Year-Old On Facebook Today

    “You‌ ‌can’t‌ ‌find‌ ‌a‌ ‌24-year-old‌ ‌on‌ ‌Facebook‌ ‌today,” says social media marketing expert Gary Vaynerchuk. ‌”Every‌ ‌one‌ ‌of‌ ‌them‌ ‌was‌ ‌on‌ ‌the‌ ‌platform‌ ‌eight‌ ‌years‌ ‌ago.‌ ‌So‌ ‌it‌ ‌ebbs‌ ‌and‌ ‌flows‌ ‌and‌ ‌as‌ TikTok‌ ‌gets‌ ‌older‌ ‌an‌ ‌audience‌ ‌can‌ ‌emerge.‌ ‌I’ve‌ ‌been‌ ‌putting‌ ‌out‌ ‌business‌ ‌content‌ ‌on‌ ‌the‌ ‌platform‌ ‌from‌ ‌day‌ ‌one,‌ ‌it skews ‌entrepreneurial,‌ ‌which‌ ‌may‌ ‌work‌ ‌in‌ ‌teenage‌ ‌and‌ ‌early‌ ‌20s.”

Gary Vaynerchuk, CEO of Vayner Media, social media star and entrepreneurial guru followed by millions, says you can’t even find a 24-year-old‌ ‌on‌ ‌Facebook‌ ‌today:

I Don’t Believe TikTok Is A National Security Threat

    The‌ ‌pitch‌ ‌started‌ ‌before‌ ‌all‌ ‌the‌ ‌brouhaha‌ ‌started.‌ ‌We‌ ‌were‌ ‌awarded‌ ‌the‌ ‌business‌ ‌(with TikTok) during‌ ‌this‌ ‌time‌. ‌Obviously,‌ ‌like‌ ‌every‌ ‌other‌ ‌American‌ ‌business‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌world, we‌ ‌will‌ ‌deal‌ ‌with‌ ‌whatever‌ ‌the‌ ‌rules‌ ‌are.‌ ‌Like‌ ‌everybody‌ ‌else,‌ ‌we’re‌ ‌standing‌ ‌by.‌ Personally‌, ‌I‌ ‌don’t‌ (consider TikTok‌ a national security threat). ‌But‌ ‌maybe‌ ‌I’m‌ ‌not‌ ‌sitting‌ ‌on‌ ‌information‌ ‌that‌ ‌others‌ ‌are.‌ ‌But‌ ‌no‌, ‌I‌ ‌do‌ ‌not.‌

    ‌Our‌ ‌small‌ ‌scope‌ ‌with‌ ‌TikTok‌‌ ‌at‌ ‌the‌ ‌Vayner‌ ‌Media‌ ‌level‌ ‌doesn’t‌ ‌really‌ ‌impact‌ ‌what‌ ‌I’m‌ ‌interested‌ ‌in‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌scheme‌ ‌of‌ ‌business.‌ ‌Facebook,‌ ‌Inc.‌, ‌Pinterest‌, and‌ ‌Linkedin‌ ‌all‌ ‌our‌ ‌platforms‌ ‌that‌ ‌all‌ ‌of‌ ‌our‌ ‌brands‌ ‌work‌ ‌on.‌ ‌I’m‌ ‌not‌ ‌overly‌ ‌emotional‌ ‌or‌ ‌I ‌have‌ ‌no‌ ‌feelings‌. ‌I ‌could‌ ‌care‌ ‌less‌ ‌if ‌Facebook‌, ‌Snapchat‌, ‌Linkedin,‌ ‌CNBC, ‌the‌ ‌New‌ ‌York‌ ‌Times‌ ‌disappeared‌ ‌off‌ ‌the‌ ‌face‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌Earth.‌ ‌I’m‌ ‌focusing‌ ‌on‌ ‌attention‌ ‌and‌ ‌that’s‌ ‌what‌ ‌our‌ ‌clients‌ ‌are‌ ‌focusing‌ ‌on.‌ ‌Where‌ ‌is‌ ‌the‌ ‌actual‌ ‌attention‌ ‌and‌ ‌how‌ ‌do‌ ‌we‌ ‌advertise‌ ‌on‌ ‌that‌ ‌platform?‌ ‌

Every Influencer Needs To Be On Every Platform

    As‌ ‌far‌ ‌as‌ ‌the‌ ‌influencers,‌ ‌every‌ ‌influencer‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌‌ ‌world‌ ‌needs‌ ‌to‌ ‌divest‌ ‌and‌ ‌be‌ ‌in‌ ‌every‌ ‌single‌ ‌platform‌ ‌and‌ ‌create‌ ‌contextual‌ ‌content‌ ‌on‌ ‌each‌ ‌of‌ ‌those‌ ‌platforms.‌ Whether‌ ‌it’s‌ ‌a‌ ‌government‌ ‌getting‌ ‌involved‌ ‌and‌ ‌shutting‌ ‌it‌ ‌down‌ ‌or‌ ‌if‌ ‌it’s‌ ‌the‌ ‌consumers‌ ‌shifting‌ ‌if‌ ‌you‌ ‌put‌ ‌all‌ ‌your‌ ‌eggs‌ ‌into‌ ‌MySpace‌ ‌you’re‌ ‌not‌ ‌doing‌ ‌so‌ ‌well‌ ‌today.‌ ‌So‌ ‌something‌ ‌I’ve‌ ‌been‌ ‌screaming‌ ‌about‌ ‌in‌ ‌my‌ ‌content‌ ‌for‌ ‌a‌ ‌decade‌ ‌is‌ ‌if‌ ‌you’re‌ ‌not‌ ‌creating‌ ‌content‌ ‌across‌ ‌the‌ ‌board‌ ‌you’re‌ ‌losing‌. ‌It’s‌ ‌something‌ ‌that‌ ‌brands‌ ‌need‌ ‌to‌ ‌be‌ ‌doing.‌ ‌

    What’s‌ ‌funny‌ ‌is‌ ‌if‌ ‌you‌ ‌look‌ ‌at‌ ‌what’s‌ ‌happening‌ ‌on‌ ‌TikTok‌, ‌‌we’re‌ ‌getting‌ ‌our‌ ‌advertisers‌ ‌that‌ ‌are‌ ‌trying‌ ‌to‌ ‌reach‌ ‌35‌ ‌to‌ ‌45‌ ‌going‌ ‌on‌ ‌the‌ ‌platform‌ ‌pretty‌ ‌aggressively‌ ‌because‌ ‌every‌ ‌platform‌ ‌gets‌ ‌much‌ ‌older.‌ ‌Don’t‌ ‌deviate‌ ‌from‌ ‌what‌ ‌you‌ ‌know.‌ ‌If‌ ‌you‌ ‌and‌ ‌I ‌dance‌ ‌on‌ ‌that‌ ‌platform‌ ‌I ‌don’t‌ ‌think‌ ‌we’re‌ ‌getting‌ ‌that‌ ‌many‌ ‌views.‌ ‌You‌ ‌need‌ ‌to‌ ‌stay‌ ‌in‌ ‌your‌ ‌pocket‌ ‌and‌ ‌create‌ ‌the‌ ‌content‌ ‌‌and‌ ‌let‌ ‌platforms‌ ‌evolve.‌ ‌

  • It’s Crazy To Rely On Amazon To Sell Your Product

It’s Crazy To Rely On Amazon To Sell Your Product

Everybody who sells something through a third party needs to figure out their ecommerce strategy,” says VaynerMedia CEO Gary Vaynerchuk. “The thought to be reliant on retailers or Amazon or anybody else and not being the driving force of your own destiny of producing something and sending it to somebody is crazy to me.”

Gary Vaynerchuk, CEO of VaynerMedia discusses on Bloomberg the necessity for sellers of products to develop their own sales channels and to not rely on Amazon or other third-party sellers:

It’s Crazy To Rely On Amazon To Sell Your Product

Everybody who sells something through a third party needs to figure out their ecommerce strategy. The thought to be reliant on retailers or Amazon or anybody else and not being the driving force of your own destiny of producing something and sending it to somebody is crazy to me. Regardless of where the world is, try not to overextend yourself on CapEx and OpEx. Let’s get into the game. For others, it’s trying to mitigate their excitement on how good their numbers look so that they don’t overspend.

Innovation comes from times like this. If you’re selling through a retailer and you make a product you’re in a bad business. Walmart, Target, Albertsons, they have disproportionately too much leverage. If you’re selling through Amazon you’re really just setting up the next giant that’s going to have too much leverage and they’re going to ask you for more brand dollars and you’re going to spend less on the consumer.

I think the change that you’ll see, much like anything, you look at downtown, supermarkets, and now e-comm, I do think you’ll see a fragmentation of products going direct-to-consumer, not through Amazon or Walmart. In seven years I think that many will talk to this time as the aha moment of we need to get our act together on going direct to consumer.

Customer Acquisition Costs Right Now Are Crazy Attractive

Meanwhile, because this is a complicated game. Facebook and Instagram and Google prices are down in costs in the auctions because a lot of people are not spending. Customer acquisition costs right now are crazy attractive. So the cliche plays out. Cash-rich businesses always accelerate aggressively during downtimes. If you have the ability to spend on acquiring customers right now and have a healthy business there’s a huge growth opportunity.

For others, it’s a restrategize opportunity. Dwelling and going on full defense is only the answer if you’re actually on the verge of going out of business.

  • TikTok Is Clearly the Pandemic Winner

TikTok Is Clearly the Pandemic Winner

TikTok is clearly the winner of this chapter,” says social media marketing expert Gary Vaynerchuk. “You have a lot of families at home together and because TikTok won 13-22 (age group) those characters are spending more time with their parents and everyone’s looking for something to do. You’re also definitely seeing an explosion at the 30-40 (age group) also. The biggest winners to me in social are TikTok and Pinterest. The biggest loser potentially is Snapchat but I think they’re stable.”

    TikTok Business Strategy

Gary Vaynerchuk, CEO of VaynerMedia discusses how the pandemic has impacted social media usage and marketing in an interview on Bloomberg:

I think in stressful times big things usually just expose things instead of changes them. TikTok is clearly the winner of this chapter. You have a lot of families at home together and because TikTok won 13-22 (age group). Those characters are spending more time with their parents and everyone’s looking for something to do. You’re also definitely seeing an explosion at the 30-40 (age group) also. I think Instagram in a lot of ways is such the juggernaut but is definitely starting to get chipped away at.

One thing we’ve learned about social networks is they’re more like actual TV networks and actual TV shows. They have a lifespan. TikTok is starting to lose a little bit of its cool factor but it’s still at scale and growing. Pinterest is having huge growth. I think Pinterest is a winner. People are cooking at home. Visual search — I think Pinterest is a winner.

I still look for Snapchat to do something to change their fortunes. I always felt when Instagram came out with stories and gave them a real kind of punch in the gut that they needed to innovate to get back there. I’m a little disappointed I guess just cuz I’m rooting for as much diversity as possible in social. The biggest winners to me in social are Pinterest and TikTok. The biggest loser potentially is Snapchat but I think they’re stable.

The amount of time on YouTube gaming, on Twitch, on Mixer, the consumption numbers are through the roof. If you have a 15-year-old or under in your world, you’re very aware that Bugha or Ninja or many others are more famous athletes to those individuals than any baseball player on earth. So I think that eSports if we stayed in our home forever, is the sport that wins.

  • Ecommerce Exploded When Everybody Got Their Stimulus Checks

Ecommerce Exploded When Everybody Got Their Stimulus Checks

“Ecommerce exploded when everybody got their stimulus checks,” says marketing superstar Gary Vaynerchuk. “It reminded me how much of a materialistic capitalistic country we are. The numbers are through the roof on food and beverage and things of that nature. Obviously, apparel has been hit in certain ways also. But net-net this is a capitalistic materialistic country and people want to buy things so you’re seeing a ton of activity.”

Gary Vaynerchuk, CEO of VaynerMedia and host of his own “GaryVee” channel on YouTube with 2.6 million subscribers, discusses how ecommerce is booming in spite of the current pandemic:

Ecommerce Exploded With The Stimulus Checks

Ecommerce exploded when everybody got their stimulus checks. It reminded me how much of a materialistic capitalistic country we are. A lot of my businesses are in ecommerce and I was “micro happy.” But I was macro disappointed because I’m hoping that people learn how to save money during this time. With VaynerMedia, my marketing firm, we sit with a lot of Fortune 500 companies that have consumer brands and we’re very involved in a lot of their e-commerce businesses.

The numbers are through the roof on food and beverage and things of that nature. Obviously, apparel has been hit in certain ways also. But net-net this is a capitalistic materialistic country and people want to buy things so you’re seeing a ton of activity. Sports cards are a space I pay attention to. I can’t believe how well it’s doing.

People Still Think Another Stimulus Check Is Coming

I actually think the macro conversation is the way this is all playing out. It’s disguising some of the economic vulnerabilities because we’re still in this cocoon. People still think there may be another stimulus check coming for me. As soon as this is over I’m gonna get a job.

I think the most interesting part of this from a kind of thoughtful economic standpoint it’s kind of that first month to three months or four months after it gets back to normal-ish. I’m really eyeing February, March, and April of next year where I think that you could see a dip because people will say wait a minute we’re in something bad. Right now I think it’s fake to some people.

  • GaryVee: Everybody’s So Over-Leveraged They Don’t Have Businesses

GaryVee: Everybody’s So Over-Leveraged They Don’t Have Businesses

Gary Vaynerchuk says that startups are so over-leveraged that they don’t really have businesses, they have VC arbitrage machines for the next fundraising. He suggests to young VC funded entrepreneurs that they should realize this and actually build a business focused on profit, not just appeasing VC’s who have no vested interest in the business.

Gary Vaynerchuk recently talked about building businesses with legendary Hollywood dealmaker Michael Ovitz at Summit.

This is the Easiest Time to Run Your Own Company

Running your own company is hard right? Well guess what, this is the easiest time to do it. The amount of fucking money that’s in the system and the amount of you that have bullshit businesses that actually aren’t businesses but are funded, being serious, this is something we have to talk about if you think it’s hard now.

One of the things that I’m most proud of is that from the day I started running my dad’s business 20 plus years ago to this moment I’ve been running a company and I’ve never had a credit line that I took from Wine Library. I never raised capital. I have paid my bills weekly in perpetuity. I have never lost six million dollars this year and did all my behavior to get enough CAC an LTV to get the next fundraising round.

    Everybody’s So Over-Leveraged They Don’t Have Businesses

You do understand that everybody’s about to get smoked the fuck out right? Everybody’s so over-leveraged they don’t have businesses, they have VC arbitrage machines for the next fundraising. I’ll see you all working at Bank of America in a couple of years. It’s a hundred percent true. Let me say this I’m not sitting up here like I’m cool and I’m razzing you. I’m hoping that that hits you in a way that says maybe I should actually build a business, not something that appeases the VC’s who have no vested interest in my business to get the next fundraising round. That’s how you’ll navigate the shit, you’ll be practical.

One of the things I’m most fascinated by right now is there’s so much money in this system. If you follow where the money comes from that’s an interesting thing to debate in the first place, but let’s leave that for another day. I am fascinated by people thinking that not making more profit than expenses is not something you need to think about a lot more. I’m just watching people spend all their time on like you know influencer marketing and tack and M&A.

Influencers Are Going to Have to Go Get a Job

When the money dries out like they’re a lot of young people in the system. You didn’t live through 2007 as an operator, you were in college having fun. You didn’t live through 2001. We have never been this over-leveraged. When the dominoes fall and there’s no next fundraising round or when you’re an influencer and nobody’s got $8,000 for you to take a picture with a fucking toothpaste in your hand, it’s not gonna be fun to go from traveling the world as an influencer to no money in the system and you have to go get a job. I want people to be prepared and everyone’s living in la-la land. We’ve been living in la-la land for a decade which makes me nervous as fuck.

  • Gary Vaynerchuk’s Formula for Success

    Gary Vaynerchuk’s Formula for Success

Gary Vaynerchuk released another video which you watch below. If you feel like you are spinning your wheels, lost, or without vision, Gary Vaynerchuk in 3 minutes provides his formula for success:

400 trillion to 1 are the odds of becoming a human being.

You choose what you’re looking for because what you look for… you find. That’s how fucking life works.

Being successful takes several different variables. I think self-awareness is number one. If you don’t know yourself and you don’t know what you’re good at you’ve got no shot because you’re gonna be spinning your wheels. I think work ethic is at the top. Nobody knows anybody that’s successful at all that hasn’t put in serious amounts of work.

Very quickly I can tell you that you need to get every voice out of your head besides yourself and you need to love yourself. You will win. You can’t live your life based on other people’s point of view. I am tired of people not starting and living their life on one very simple thing which is they’re worried about what other people think.

Learn the work ethic and the skills that match your ambition.

You get to live life one time and this is the time right now to understand what’s actually happening and actually map your behavior to something that will impact you for the next 80 years.

Pay the fuck attention to who’s giving you the advice, who’s giving the advice. More importantly, if you live your life where you’re comfortable taking somebody else’s point of view on how you should live your life you deserve to lose.

Figure out what fucking puts you on fire and you’re halfway decent at and become tunnel fucking vision.

I only want one thing for people that I have, really outside of health, the only thing I wish for people is for them to love what they do as much as I do.

It’s not that you can’t, it’s that you’re not willing to give up dumb shit for a better life. It’s very very simple, put yourself in a position to succeed. Figure out who you really are and figure out if what you’re talking is being mapped by what you’re doing, because the second you put those things together shit fucking unlocks.

Whose fucking permission are you looking for?

Go do your thing. You’re gonna die. If nobody’s gonna give a shit when you die why the fuck are you worrying about their opinions while you’re alive.

I just can’t explain to everybody like clearer when you figure out who you are and do all that you win.

Regardless of what you’re trying to accomplish you’ve got to tell the world about it.

This is now the world (Pointing at a smartphone) and if you’re not betting on this you’re finished. If you’re not betting on this you’re finished. If you’re not betting on this you’re finished.

  • GaryVee: Yes Beats No and Positivity Always Beats Anger

GaryVee: Yes Beats No and Positivity Always Beats Anger

Entrepreneur and marketing genius Gary Vaynerchuk (GaryVee) produced a short video on how positivity and truth and saying yes lead to success. “People don’t get it,” he said. “When you’re positive, when you’re happy, it’s not fluffy bullshit, it’s not like oh, you’re drinking the kool-aid. It’s being practical to understand that yes always beats no, that sun always beats rain, that positivity always beats anger.”

Gary Vaynerchuk talks about how positivity always beats anger in a video below:

    It’s About Communicating

What’s really tough about putting out content on the internet for all us creators and content producers is some people just consume one video or one time, or you’ve got a subtle message that even yourself you’re not doing a great job communicating on. That’s what I’m kind of trying to do here.

I put so much pressure on college and so much so that I think the subtleties of my biggest macro which is… look on the brightside, glasses half-full, make the best of your situation in no matter what the situation is… is far greater than my concern that collecting debt in college is not setting you up for financial success post-college. For example, you could be collecting debt like that young man is (we didn’t get to that as you can see in the video). But let’s say he is. Him going into college over the next three and a half years with a positive mindset may lead to him meeting somebody who (makes a difference to him).

    Positivity Always Beats Anger

People don’t get it. When you’re positive, when you’re happy, it’s not fluffy bullshit, it’s not like oh, you’re drinking the kool-aid. It’s being practical to understand that yes always beats no, that sun always beats rain, that positivity always beats anger. People get confused because anger and negative and doing the wrong thing actually has short-term results.

If me, Seth, and Caleb go rob a jewelry store tonight and don’t get caught we got a bunch of fucking jewelry. But it now becomes the vulnerability, because the second time we may get caught. I promise you don’t rob a jewelry store just once and if you understood what I just said you’re on your way.

GaryVee Talks to Successful Entrepreneur Scott Belsky

To me, it’s just a truth. I don’t think I’m nice or a prick or anything. I just think it’s really a good idea because if you talk about the truth it puts you in a position of strength. Now hearing your story, the advantages, and there are substantial advantages, that you and I had is that immigrant families have such context for all the opportunity, so it’s hard for them to complain about dumb shit. Americans born here in abundance (always) complain about dumb shit.

But here’s where you and I won. People born in this country have lots of money in the bank but have parents that don’t create the blueprint that leads them to success here (mentally). It’s a mindset game, it’s the operating system. People understand like if your operating system or your phone is fuck’d you can’t use it, it’s this garbage.

I just think yes is powerful. To me, the ‘No’ players, our friends who were like focus, focus, focus, they’re like look how successful I was, I focused. I’m like cool, I said yes and was Helter Skelter and I’m successful. I think a lot of this comes down to self-awareness. When you can accept yourself… and for me, you said a very subtle thing in there… that once you learned that you have to accept it as a net game.

For every meeting that led to amazing things with Pinterest, there were six others that led to nothing, or a waste of time or an awkward situation or things that you didn’t want to deal with. It’s just part of the game. A lot of my mistakes helped me get better at the ‘No’s’ in a world where I want to say yes to everything.

    All Hands Meeting at VaynerMedia

Why we are here is very simple. Nine years ago my brother and I wanted to start a company. The opportunity we saw at hand was in the advertising agency world, but it was to be a gateway to everything else we ever did. Somewhere in my late 20s or early 30s, I realized that even though I suck at most things, my ability to understand human beings and communicate to them was strong. Intuitively, I understood what humans were gonna do oftentimes before the masses.

It’s why I invested in things that went on to become big things. It’s why in 1996 I launched an e-commerce wine business to sell wine. Everything good in my life, marrying my wife one second into our first conversation, everything good in my life has been predicated on my ability to understand human behaviors slightly before the rest. That was the mission of VaynerX, that continues to be the mission of VaynerX, and that will forever be the mission of VaynerX.

How do we build something that communicates to solve a problem at scale? Whether that is to sell sneakers or wine or beer or telco or whatever it is. Or as I get older in my years to get Husain to be the Governor of California or to cure Crohn’s disease or anything else… and ultimately and finally, buy the New York Jets, win six Super Bowls, and then die.
