  • Hitman: Absolution Gameplay Footage Revealed

The pre-E3 game reveals are continuing today, and Hitman: Absolution joins Metal Gear Rising, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, and Star Wars 1313 by having teaser footage released before E3 even starts. Perhaps IO Interactive is trying to get discussion of Hitman: Absolution back on track after its recent teaser trailer featuring sexy nuns derailed the conversation into sexism discussions.

VG 24/7 got an interview with Luke Valentine, a producer for IO Interactive who showed off a mission from the game that is set in Chinatown. It looks as if the game is taking a page from the Assassin’s Creed playbook, as Agent 47 wades through a large crowd of people while scoping out his target. Valentine stated that the “crowd tech” the developers have implemented can be used to hide or escape from police. The video then goes on to show the myriad of ways the assassination of the “King of Chinatown,” who stands in the middle of an open market with a police escort, can be accomplished.

Check out the interview interview below and see for yourself how the new game will play. The Chinatown mission will be playable at E3 next week, allowing players to get a feel for where Hitman: Absolution is taking the Hitman series. From the looks of it, the game will be taking the series back to a patient puzzle-like assassination game. The release date for the title is November 20, but some fans who pre-order the game can play some pre-launch downloadable content called Hitman: Sniper Challenge.

  • Dishonored Trailer is Dystopian Steampunk Ultraviolence

It’s pre-E3 teaser trailer day, and along with Metal Gear Rising, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and Lord of the Rings: Guardians of Middle Earth, Dishonored now has a new teaser trailer available online. Bethesda seems to have gone the extra mile with this “teaser”, though, showing enough gameplay footage to show players just what they can expect when the game launches this fall.

Take a look at the trailer for yourself, but be warned: it contains multiple very graphic murders, pints of blood, and a creepy young girl:

Those who haven’t read any previews of Dishonored may now need some context for all of those assassinations set in a steampunk dystopia. From the Bethesda Softworks YouTube video description:

Dishonored casts you as a supernatural assassin driven by revenge. You are Corvo, the once-trusted bodyguard of the beloved Empress. Framed for her murder, you become an infamous assassin, known only by the disturbing mask that has become your calling card. In a time of uncertainty, when the city is besieged by plague and ruled by a corrupt government armed with strange technologies, dark forces bestow supernatural abilities upon you.

Players will be able to eliminate their targets using stealth, weapons, gadgets, and supernatural abilities such as slowing time or possessing small animals. The methods players use for their assassinations will effect the mission outcome. The game will be available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. It is scheduled for release on October 9 in North America and October 12 in Europe. Bethesda states that the game is not yet rated by the ESRB, but from the look of the trailer, it’s clear Arkane Studios isn’t pulling any punches, and Dishonored will definitely receive an “M” rating.

  • Lost Planet 3 Announced, Trailer Released

Lost Planet 3 Announced, Trailer Released

A trailer for Lost Planet 3 is out and it promises a release for the game sometime next year. The Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 will both get releases, but there was no sign of a PC release in the trailer. This comes in the midst of even more news coming out of Capcom’s Captivate event held last week, including a new Resident Evil trailer and release date, and a new Devil May Cry trailer.

The developer of Lost Planet 3 is apparently Spark Unlimited. Spark is known for developing lackluster shooters such as “Turning Point: Fall of Liberty” and “Legendary,” so take from that what you will. The studio is also suspected to be developing “Star Wars: Battlefront III.”

The trailer doesn’t feature any gameplay, so it’s not clear what elements from it we will see in the game. I’d expect the location to be similar, though, meaning the game will probably resemble the first Lost Planet and its icy wastelands. Also, I’m sure players will be donning the mech suit and battling huge, monstrous creatures. Regardless of what may or may not make it into the game, the trailer is very cinematic and exciting. I’ll wait and see if I want to play the game, but I definitely want to see this as a feature-length movie:
