Galaxy S 4 Mini Comes To The U.S. In November

Just like with the Galaxy S III before it, the Galaxy S 4 was miniaturized into a more affordable version of its flagship brother. The device – known as the Galaxy S 4 Mini – was unveiled in May and released in Europe this past July. Now the device is finally coming to America next month.

Samsung announced today that the Galaxy S 4 Mini will hit the U.S. at some point in November. The company didn’t offer a specific date which is a sign that it’s leaving those details up to the carriers that will be offering the device.

“Samsung continues to provide a wide range of products to fit consumers’ needs,” said Gregory Lee, president of Samsung Mobile. “The Galaxy S 4 mini continues that commitment by bringing the paramount features of our flagship Galaxy S 4 smartphone to a smaller, more compact form factor.”

So, what will you get with the Galaxy S 4 Mini? The miniaturized S 4 sports a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED display powered by a 1.7GHz dual-core CPU, 1.5GB of RAM, a 1900 mAh battery and 16GB of onboard storage. The S 4 Mini runs on Android 4.2.2 and it supports up to 64GB of expandable memory. Samsung also notes that the S 4 Mini will receive an update shortly after launch that will make it compatible with the company’s Galaxy Gear smart watch.

Samsung says that AT&T, Sprint, Verizon and U.S. Cellular will all carry the S 4 Mini. It doesn’t offer a price, but it will be substantially cheaper than the Galaxy S 4. If I was a betting man, I’d wager that the S 4 Mini will cost $99 with a new two-year contract.

Before the Galaxy S 4 tore up the sales charts, it was rumored that Samsung would be releasing a mini-version of the device for the more cost conscious consumer market. Those rumors were right on the money as Samsung announced such a device today.

The Galaxy S4 Mini is indeed real, and it’s said to bring “the sleek design of the Galaxy S4 in a portable chic and compact design.” Of course, it’s not only the reduced size, but the reduced cost as well that will make the S4 Mini an attractive option for consumers not interested in 5-inch smartphones that cost hundreds of dollars.

The S4 Mini is equipped with a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED display, a 1.7GHz processor, 8MP back camera, 1.9MP front camera, 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory. As expected, it will ship with Android 4.2 and supports LTE bands. It also supports many of the same software features that shipped with the Galaxy S4, like S Translator and S Health.

“Demand for the Galaxy S4 has been phenomenal since it launched in April and we hope to build on this success with the Galaxy S4 Mini,” said Simon Stanford, Vice President of IT & Mobile Division, Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland. “This new handset is the ideal smartphone companion for anyone who wants a compact device packed with innovation.”

So, when will you be able to get your hands on the S4 Mini? Samsung isn’t saying at the moment. A separate press release out of UK-based Phones 4U says the device will be out in the UK this July. There’s been nothing said regarding a U.S. release, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it launched around the same time as it does in the UK.

  • Samsung Will Be Miniaturizing The Galaxy S 4 [Rumor]

Samsung Will Be Miniaturizing The Galaxy S 4 [Rumor]

The Galaxy S III was Samsung’s flagship device last year, and as such, carried a flagship device price tag. For those who wanted the S III experience minus the price, Samsung released the Galaxy S III Mini late last year. A recent leak suggests that Samsung will be doing it again for the Galaxy S 4.

SamMobile got the scoop on the Galaxy S 4 Mini after spotting a few images of the device on @ErmEchkiN’s Twitter feed. Much like its predecessor, the Galaxy S 4 Mini will presumably be a smaller S 4 with paired down specs so it comes in at a cheaper price.

In the below image, you can see the Galaxy S 4 Mini on the far right compared to the Galaxy S 4 and the Galaxy S III:

So what kind of specs can we expect out of the device? The current rumors suggest that it will have a 4.3 inch display and a 1.66GHz dual-core CPU. There’s no word yet on the other specs. The device will be running Android 4.2.2 though. It will also come in single-SIM and dual-SIM formats for all you carrier hoppers and world travelers.

The current rumors state that we can expect to see the Galaxy S 4 Mini in stores in either June or July. The Galaxy S 4 is expected to hit stores sometime during the second quarter so there hopefully won’t be much time between the launch of the Galaxy S 4 and S 4 Mini. A few months later, Samsung will reportedly unveil the Galaxy Note III in September.

It seems that Samsung will be staying busy in 2013. It will be interesting to see if the company will be involved in any more Nexus projects with Google as well after its Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 10 were so well received by consumers.
