  • Frances Bean Cobain Doesn’t Like Nirvana [Interview]

Frances Bean Cobain Says she actually doesn’t like Nirvana all that much.

In an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, Frances Bean Cobain surprised some fans and admirers with that and other admissions. But she showed that she has a very good grasp on who her famous father was and why he left us.

“My dad was exceptionally ambitious. But he had a lot thrown on him, exceeding his ambition. He wanted his band to be successful. But he didn’t want to be the fucking voice of a generation.”

One of the toughest things for Frances Bean Cobain, and an odd thing about a dead musician like Kurt, is that his death immortalizes him.

“Even though Kurt died in the most horrific way possible, there is this mythology and romanticism that surrounds him, because he’s 27 forever. The shelf life of an artist or musician isn’t particularly long. Kurt has gotten to icon status because he will never age. He will always be that relevant in that time and always be beautiful.”

While other musicians — Kurt’s bandmate Dave Grohl, for example — are still kicking and relevant, they have to keep working for their status. They are only as relevant as their latest project, which may be why Grohl is constantly one-upping himself.

But Frances Bean Cobain understands what Kurt could not deal with in the end.

“Kurt got to the point where he eventually had to sacrifice every bit of who he was to his art, because the world demanded it of him. I think that was one of the main triggers as to why he felt he didn’t want to be here and everyone would be happier without him.”

But “in reality, if he had lived,” she goes on, “I would have had a dad. And that would have been an incredible experience.”

It was then that Frances Bean Cobain dropped the bomb.

“I don’t really like Nirvana that much [grins]. Sorry, promotional people, Universal. I’m more into Mercury Rev, Oasis, Brian Jonestown Massacre [laughs]. The grunge scene is not what I’m interested in. But ‘Territorial Pissings’ [on Nevermind] is a fucking great song. And ‘Dumb’ [on In Utero] – I cry every time I hear that song. It’s a stripped-down version of Kurt’s perception of himself – of himself on drugs, off drugs, feeling inadequate to be titled the voice of a generation.”

  • Kurt Cobain: Documentary Screening at Sundance Reunites Daugher Frances Bean With Estranged Mother Courtney Love

Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, produced by the late Nirvana singer’s daughter Frances Bean Cobain, was screened Saturday at the Sundance Film Festival and offered a bittersweet moment between Kurt Cobain’s daughter and his widow.

The occasion reunited Kurt Cobain’s only daughter with her estranged mother Courtney Love for the screening, after several years of estrangement.

The mother and daughter alienation reportedly stems from accusations that were made by Courtney Love several years ago that former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl hit on Frances.

However, the estranged mother and daughter exchanged a warm hug for the premiere of the documentary and a moment of commonality in their love of Kurt Cobain, who died of an apparent suicide in 1994.

Courtney Love lost legal control of her daughter in 2009, and three years later, accused the drummer of coming on to her daughter. Frances denied the allegations, calling them “gross.”

Kurt Cobain’s 22-year-old daughter is the executive producer of the documentary and interestingly enough, Dave Grohl doesn’t even appear in the film, even though he was reportedly interviewed for the production.

Apparently, an interview conducted for the film came too late to make it into this version of the documentary, but may make it into the cut for the HBO release on May 4.

“We had a locked print and trying to re-edit a film with a new interview in 10 days is kind of difficult,” director Brett Morgen explained at the premiere at the Marc Theater. “This is the picture I wanted — I didn’t want there to be a lot of people in the film. I hope we’ll see a version [with the Grohl interview] some time.”

  • Lana Del Rey Teams Up with Courtney Love for Summer Tour

Singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey has announced that she is bringing a “very, very special guest” along with her on the summer tour.

Del Rey, touring in support of her second album, Ultraviolence, will be paired up with Hole frontwoman Courtney Love who will be performing songs from her long-awaited solo album.

The Endless Summer Tour, which actually only consists of eight joint tour dates for the duo, will launch on May 7 in Texas and travel across North America.

Del Rey has already been hopping around the west coast with shows at Coachella, the Shrine Expo Hall, and Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

This year Love has released two songs under her own name, “You Know My Name” and “Wedding Day,” both reportedly from her upcoming 2015 album. Both songs feature Tommy Lee on drums.

In addition, Love is joining the cast of FX’s Sons of Anarchy for the show’s seventh and final season. The 50-year-old also has landed a leading role in Kansas City Choir Boy, a pop opera set to debut at the Manhattan arts center during their Prototype festival in January 2015.

Earlier this year Love’s daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, attacked Del Rey after she made a death wish in The Guardian and on her album. Del Rey told an interviewer that she wished she was “dead already.”

“I do!” she said. “I don’t want to have to keep doing this. But I am.”

Frances Bean, daughter of Love and former Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, took to Twitter to voice her disdain reminding her followers that the death of a young musician “isn’t something to romanticize.”

“Well, it’s f**king not,” she continued. “Embrace life, because you only get one life.”

Frances Bean also sent Del Rey a private message telling her that she is “too talented to waste it away.”

The Twitter posts were later deleted and Frances Bean said that she was not attacking Del Rey, only trying to “put things in perspective.” Del Rey said that her initial comments made to The Guardian were taken out of context.

“i regret trusting the guardian,” she Tweeted, saying that the interviewer’s questions about death and persona were “calculated.”

The Del Rey and Love tour dates hit cities such as Dallas, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Los Angeles, CA, and Ridgefield, WA. For full tour schedule, visit Lana Del Rey’s website.

  • Kurt Cobain’s Daughter Frances Bean Shows Support For Robin Williams’ Daughter

Although Frances Bean Cobain was spared the grief that Zelda Williams is facing now –when her own father, Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain took his own life in 1994– Cobain offered sincere support and showed tact in her understanding of the pain the 25-year-old Williams is dealing with, following the death of her father Robin Williams.

The younger Williams posted a tribute to her father on social media last Monday with a poem by Antoine De Saint-Exupery. She ended the post with a heart tugging: “I love you. I miss you. I’ll try to keep looking up. Z”

To this, Cobain replied on Twitter: “You have such an incredibly beautiful soul. I love you but you already knew that. Wherever, whenever u need me I’ll be there.”

The grieving family has been receiving an outpouring of love at their time of great loss – but have also been at the mercy of negative and hurtful comments.

“To those he touched who are sending kind words, know that one of his favorite things in the world was to make you all laugh,” Williams’ daughter said. “As for those who are sending negativity, know that some small, giggling part of him is sending a flock of pigeons to your house to poop on your car. Right after you’ve had it washed. After all, he loved to laugh too.”

The comedian’s oldest son, Zachary Williams has also released a statement:

“Yesterday, I lost my father and a best friend and the world got a little grayer. I will carry his heart with me every day. I would ask those that loved him to remember him by being as gentle, kind and generous as he would be. Seek to bring joy to the world as he sought.”

The actor —who in the course of his long career won 5 Grammys, 4 Golden Globes, 2 Screen Actors Guild awards and many others— passed away after hanging himself at his home in Marin County, California. He was battling with an addiction and was going through financial difficulties for a few years prior to his passing.

  • Frances Bean Cobain Supports Robin Williams’ Daughter

Frances Bean Cobain sent a lovely message to Robin Williams’ daughter Zelda on Tuesday, offering her help should she need anything following the tragic loss of her father to suicide.

Cobain was just a baby when her father, Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain, shot himself inside his Seattle home, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t feel the loss. She recently responded to Lana Del Rey after an interview came out in which the singer said she wished “she was dead already” and spoke about some of her musical influences, which included Kurt Cobain.

“@LanaDelRey the death of young musicians isn’t something to romanticize … I’ll never know my father because he died young & it becomes a desirable feat because ppl like u think it’s “cool” … Well, it’s f****** not. Embrace life, because u only get one life. The ppl u mentioned wasted that life.Don’t be 1 of those ppl,” Cobain wrote on Twitter.

Zelda Williams left her social media accounts this week after several people sent her manipulated images of her father and cruel messages, saying she needed time to heal.

“I will be leaving this account for a but while I heal and decide if I’ll be deleting it or not,” she wrote on Instagram.”In this difficult time, please try to be respectful of the accounts of myself, my family and my friends. Mining our accounts for photos of dad, or judging me on the number of them is cruel and unnecessary. There are a couple throughout, but the real private moments I shared with him were precious, quiet, and believe it or not, not full of photos or ‘selfies’. I shared him with a world where everyone was taking their photo with him, but I was lucky enough to spend time with him without cameras too. That was more than enough, and I’m grateful for what little time I had. My favorite photos of family are framed in my house, not posted on social media, and they ‘ll remain there. They would’ve wound up on the news or blogs then, and they certainly would now. That’s not what I want for our memories together. Thank you for your respect and understanding in this difficult time. Goodbye.”

Cobain offered up anything Williams should need in the coming weeks and months via Twitter, saying, “You have such an incredibly beautiful soul. I love you but you already knew that. Wherever, whenever u need me I’ll be there.”
