  • Robin Wright: ‘Women Do The Work, But Don’t Get Credit’

Robin Wright knows a thing or two about playing strong women. She was introduced to audiences as the Princess Buttercup in The Princess Bride, waiting to be rescued by her man. She brought the world to tears as Jenny Curran, the object of Forrest Gump’s unrequited affection. But in her Lady Macbeth-like role as Claire Underwood in House of Cards, she is a self-determined woman for our times.

Robin Wright belongs right in the current discussion of how women are treated in Hollywood.

“We need a revolution, we really do. Thank God gender equality is finally being talked about and making news, but we need a female Che Guevara,” Robin Wright told Britain’s Evening Standard magazine.

Wright’s invoking the image of Che Guevara shouldn’t be taken to ridiculous extremes. Guevara was a revolutionary who inspired many people to overthrow the oppression they lived under at the time. It is doubtful that Robin Wright was extolling the virtues of the Marxism that Guevara espoused.

“It’s our time to have wage equality once and for all, and equal rights for women in the United States of America,” Wright continued. “It is a man’s world. Most industries are a man’s world. But when you break it down, it’s women [who do the work]. But they don’t necessarily get the credit.”

Wright and other actresses have been in the vanguard of a revival in the feminist effort toward equality in wages and treatment for women across many walks of life.

“I do believe in feminism,” Robing Wright says. “But that is not to deny the biological differences. They [men] are stronger in some ways, we are stronger in some ways. We have better tactical talents than they do in some ways, and they [have better ones] in others, and that is why we are a great balance.”

But one area that Wright is assured that she does just as well as the next man is in directing. She has begun directing episodes of House of Cards, although she waited a while before trying her hand at it.

“It was in the back of my head … one day,” she explained. “But then you think, ‘Yeah, I want to, but I could never…’ And that’s just fear. And a lot of that, I think, was being a female in this industry. I think we are programmed — well, I was; I am not going to speak for the whole gender — I was programmed into thinking, ‘I am going to be lesser; they [men] are going to think that I am lesser.’”

  • Robin Wright and Ben Foster, Engagement Off?

Robin Wright and Ben Foster have reportedly called off their engagement. Us Weekly reports that Wright was the one who broke the 10-month long engagement.

“She got swept up in the engagement last Christmas, but then their schedules got crazy and she realized it wasn’t the right decision,” a source told them of why the House of Cards actress called it quits with her man.

The source continued, explaining that this summer proved to be the breaking point for the actress, who was juggling working on the Netflix hit in Baltimore and then spending weekends in Los Angeles with her and ex-husband Sean Penn’s kids Dylan, 23, and Hopper Jack, 21. Foster was busy in London, working on a production of A Streetcar Named Desire.

On top of that, there was a 14-year age gap between Robin Wright and Ben Foster.

“The gap just ended up being too much,” a source close to Wright told the New York Post. “Ben was kind of immature. She couldn’t deal with him anymore.”

In addition to House of Cards, Robin Wright is known for her roles in films like The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and Message in a Bottle. She played the role of Jenny in Forrest Gump.

Had Robin Wright married Ben Foster, it would have been her third time to the altar. In addition to her marriage to Sean Penn, she was also married to Dane Cook.

It will be interesting to learn in the coming months if there might be someone new in Robin Wright’s life.

  • Forrest Gump Movie Turns Twenty: Favorite Scenes?

“Mama always said life was life a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.”

This is but one of many iconic quotes from the movie Forrest Gump, which was released over twenty years ago.

The movie swept the 1995 Oscars, snagging the award for Best Actor (Tom Hanks), Best Director (Robert Zemeckis), and Best Picture among others.

To celebrate its two decade anniversary, Forrest Gump will be given a special Imax re-release.

So much happens in Forrest Gump; there are nearly four decades of history packed into the two and a half hour film.

But at no point does it feel overly long.

With so many memorable scenes and movie lines, it’s hard to select a favorite. Here are a few standout moments from this outstanding film.

    “Run Forrest, Run!”

Childhood bullies are a sad and predictable fact of life. When you’re a child suffering from a major disability, it can be that much more depressing.

What others would consider a harrowing experience, Gump himself considered “a miracle”.

This is probably because he’d been barely able to walk prior to this significant incident.

From that moment on Gump ran practically everywhere. It became something of an important theme throughout the movie.

    “Something Bit Me!”

Of all the things to assume while fleeing for your life as bullets are flying, somehow Forrest Gump’s reaction to being shot “in the buttocks” is to assume something completely asinine.

One of those pesky jungle insects had, in Gump’s mind, picked that exact moment to go in for a bite.

In keeping with Gump’s tendency to be extremely lucky, he falls down in time to avoid being blown to bits.

“I Think I’ll Go Home Now”

As stated before, running is one of the major themes of the Forrest Gump movie. The character stated that one day “for no particular reason”, he just started running.

Gump ran for a period of about three years and two months.

During this lengthy jog, he inspired two well known pop culture phenomenons: the “Shit happens” bumper sticker and the “Have A Nice Day” smiley.

At the end of it all, he amassed a ragtag following of the sort of people always looking for somebody, ANYBODY, to tell them the answers to life rather than think for themselves.

And so it was absolutely hilarious that when Gump finally got tired of running (and in the middle freaking nowhere at that) he stopped turned around and simply said that he was going home.

No great revelation or mystic principles. Nope, not a damn thing.

    Classic.

  • Gary Sinise Treats 50 Veterans to Disneyland

It’s been almost 20 years since Gary Sinise played the character Lieutenant Dan in the feel good movie Forrest Gump. However, that role still has a dramatic effect on the actor’s life. On Valentine’s Day, Sinise treated 50 military veterans to a free trip to Disneyland in California. And he also got a few of his Hollywood friends to show up and pay tribute to our wounded warriors.

Tom Hanks, Tom Arnold, and Ted Danson joined Sinise and his charirty The Gary Sinise Foundation in welcoming the wounded veterans to California. Sinise’s charity helps to serve veterans, first responders, and families in need of assistance.

The Gary Sinise Foundation’s mission statement:

Freedom and security are precious gifts that we, as Americans, should never take for granted. We must do all we can to extend our hand in times of need to those who willingly sacrifice each day to provide that freedom and security. While we can never do enough to show our gratitude to our nation’s defenders, we can always do a little more

The veterans were also treated to a viewing of Forrest Gump which features Sinise as Lt. Dan, a proud military leader who loses both his legs fighting in Vietnam. Lt. Dan turns to alcohol and falls into deep depression but is saved by Gump when the two men start up Bubba Gump Shrimp Company and strike it rich.

The film has had a profound effect on Sinise who hosts various special events for members of the military. The CSI: NY actor even named his rock band, The Lt. Dan Band. The band plays at military bases around the country.

Sinise spoke about the iconic role, “Who would have thought that 20 years later Lieutenant Dan would still play a part in my life? There’s something different about this part… The veterans in my family, what had happened to them when they came home from war, I just felt such compassion for them and guilt too.” The actor added, “There’s a hopeful ending to the story of Lieutenant Dan and all our wounded veterans want that story… that they can be standing up again and moving on with life and doing alright. The whole purpose is to send them home smiling. They should know what I’m trying to do here.”

  • Gary Sinise Takes Wounded Veterans to Hollywood

Gary Sinise has never forgotten his role in the award winning film Forrest Gump as Lt. Dan. In fact, he said recently during an interview with ABC that he still embraces the role today.

“There’s something different about this part,” he said.” “I’ve walked into so many hospital rooms and they look at me and they think I know what they’re going through.”

He formed the Gary Sinise Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising money for veteran initiative. Even though he didn’t know firsthand how these veterans were suffering, he knew he had to do something to help them.

“I just couldn’t not do anything,” Sinise said. “I’ve seen a lot of need and I’ve become very committed to [being] somebody who can try to make a difference.”

“There’s a hopeful ending to the story of Lieutenant Dan and all our wounded veterans want that story, that they can be standing up again and moving on with life and doing alright,” he continued. “The whole purpose is to send them home smiling. They should know what I’m trying to do here.”

In February Gary Sinise took a group of 50 wounded veterans from Walter Reed Bethesda, Fort Belvoir in Virginia, and Naval Medical Center San Diego to where this all began for him as Lt. Dan–Hollywood. He flew the solders on a private charter plane provided by American Airlines. The group even received a police escort as they drove through Los Angeles.

The first stop for Sinise and the wounded veterans was Disneyland. Disney welcomed them with open arms, free admission and a guide who moved them all to the front of the amusement lines.

“After the injuries and all that, it feels like you can’t go out in the world anymore,” Staff Sgt. Michael Irish, one of the wounded veterans, said. “All you want to do is be in a dark room and just sleep it off… and now with Gary and his organization helping us… to have fun and be yourself, that’s very important to all of us.”

At Paramount Studios Gary Sinise arranged for a private showing of Forrest Gump, and Tom Hanks himself came to greet the group and mingle among them. Tom Arnold and Dan Danson showed up to visit with the troops, too.

Sinise has long set an example in Hollywood that’s hard to beat. He has given of himself for wounded soldiers through his organization and his band–the Lt. Dan Band. He likely spends more time these days giving back than he does acting. Sinise stars in CSI: New York. Kudos to him and the fine, selfless work he does for U.S. veterans.

  • Gary Sinise Honors Wounded Veterans

    Gary Sinise Honors Wounded Veterans

In what could perhaps be the best news of the year so far, actor Gary Sinise is paying tribute to the troops, yet again.

Just when it seems that all hope in humanity is gone, Sinise can give you warm and fuzzies with what he did for 50 soldiers on February 14.

Through his charity, the Gary Sinise Foundation, Sinise treated the wounded veterans to all-expenses paid trip to Disneyland and Paramount Studios. He also flew them on a private charter plane and assisted in giving the group a police escort through Los Angeles.

And if that wasn’t enough, the Forrest Gump actor recruited some of his other famous friends to help give these heroes the treatment they deserve: Tom Hanks, Tom Arnold, and Ted Danson also showed up to greet the warriors.

Sinise has made a variety of efforts to honor the troops, ever since he played Lieutenant Dan in the epic film Forrest Gump. In the movie, Lt. Dan loses his legs in the Vietnam jungle, before being rescued by Gump, played by Tom Hanks. The two become best friends and ultimately partners in the shrimping industry. The character’s disability has created a connection between Sinise and those who were wounded serving the country.

See more of what the Gary Sinise Foundation does, here:

Inspired by the film, Sinise created his charity to create and support unique programs for veterans. Through the charity, Sinise has hosted a variety of events to honor the troops, and plays with his band, The Lt. Dan band, at military bases throughout America.

“There’s something different about this part,” he said in an interview. “I’ve walked into so many hospital rooms and they look at me and they think I know what they’re going through.”

During this trip, Sinise also arranged a showing of the iconic movie.

“There’s a hopeful ending to the story of Lieutenant Dan and all our wounded veterans want that story, that they can be standing up again and moving on with life and doing alright,” he continued. “The whole purpose is to send them home smiling. They should know what I’m trying to do here.”

  • Robin Wright Admits to Botox and Devastating Divorce Experience

“House of Cards” star Robin Wright recently shared how devastating her divorce was with ex-husband Sean Penn.

In a very transparent interview with The Telegraph, the 47-year-old actress expressed why it was so hard for her to move on from the marriage, one reason being her children.

“One of the reasons why we got back together and broke up so much was trying to keep the family together… and we did that for a long time,” she said. “Sean sees the kids. They see him. They see me. We’ve all got our own lives.”

However, Wright has now moved past the upsetting experience with a newfound personality, and it shows all too well with new fiancé Ben Foster.

The two lovebirds first met in 2011 on the set of “Rampart,” which 33-year-old Foster produced and Wright starred.

During the interview, Wright fondly remembered her first date with Foster.

“I’d never, ever been asked out on a date before,” Wright explained. “Never. I was frickin’ married my whole life, and even before that I hadn’t been asked out.” (image)

After two years of dating, Wright said that Foster surprisingly popped the question, one that she referred to as a “surreal” experience.

Yet, it appears that the pair has already tied the knot in a way with their matching tattoos.

Located on Wright’s left hand is the initial “B,” and of course it stands for Ben.

“Ben has a ‘R’ tattoo in the same place,” she explained to The Telegraph. “I’ve been so anti-tattoos my whole life. But doing this felt right because we’re not that traditional.”

Well, one thing Wright seems not so traditional about is embracing a few wrinkles here and there.

She confessed how she enjoys getting Botox at least twice a year.

“Everybody f**king does it…Perhaps it’s not wise to put that in a magazine? But I ain’t hiding anything.”

Along with a new attitude and a successful love life, the former “Forrest Gump” actress is also really focused on taking her career to a whole new level of confidence.

“I used to lie in wait and hope to see what roles would come in,” she said. “But my new ambition is to go out and find what I want. I also want to direct more. I totally have the bug now.”

  • LG Ad Campaign Gives Us a New Outlook on Classic Movies

LG is promoting their concept of experiencing every side of sound with an ad campaign depicting classic movie posters from different angles. With LG’s new Home Theater 3D Sound System, they claim you will be able to hear the movie from different angles, why not be able to see it from different angles too.

LG’s new 9.1 surround sound systems will definitely appeal to 3D TV owners. The products claim to match the postion of 3D images with 3D sounds, using four more speakers than a traditional 5.1 surround sound system. They use an algorithm to detect the depth of effects watched in 3D, making for a “wider sweet spot” than normal.

Though I do love the excitement of hearing depth of sound while watching a movie in surround sound, 3D TV just doesn’t appeal to me. Putting on special glasses and sitting in one spot for optimal viewing and listening should be reserved for the movie theater. I’d much rather spend $10 – $12 when I see a good movie come out, than thousands of dollars to watch 3D on a smaller screen at home

As for the advertisement campaign itself, it’s brilliant. Whatever LG is paying Y&R advertising agency, they are getting their money’s worth. Classic movies always awaken a since of nostalgia and a love for cinema in all of us. And showing these old movies in a new way is raking in big bucks for distributors (Titanic 3D, The Lion King). Billing 3D surround sound as a new way to enjoy your old favorites may very well pay off for LG.
